Chapter 477

Author: Chweety
Janet's face turned pale upon hearing this. She bit her lower lip hard and looked at Charles with pitiful eyes, then turned to Clarisse. "Charles, I know you're in a bad mood. I won't hold it against you."

Charles let out a cold snort. He merely glanced at Janet before turning to go upstairs. Seeing Charles go up, James quickly followed. "Mr. Charles, I've prepared the tea. Where would you like it?"

"Have someone bring it up. I need to speak with Dad and Uncle Henry," Charles said, his cool voice softening slightly.

Hearing Charles' conversation with the butler, Clarisse's eyes flashed with sharpness as her fingernails dug into her palm.

Janet's face was not any better. She hurried to Clarisse's side and helped her sit down. "Aunt Clary, has Charles... Has he really not forgiven me? But I... Aunt Clary, what should I do?"

Clarisse was also in a foul mood. No one would feel good being treated this way by their own son, especially when he showed more respect to a servant than to her

Mateo and Henry understood who Charles was talking about. They had watched Charles and that woman grow up together, believing they were a perfect match, but she unexpectedly..."But Kelly..." Mateo began."Dad, you don't need to worry about my affairs. I know what I'm doing. If you have time to spare, you should manage my mother instead," Charles interrupted.Mateo's eyes darkened as he sighed. "Your mother's situation isn't easy to handle. Years of resentment can't be undone so simply. Her purpose for returning is clear. Do you think she came back for me?""Then you should understand that no one can force me to do anything, whether it's Kelly or Janet," Charles set down his teacup with excessive force, causing tea to splash out.Mateo's expression tightened. "But your mother...""Capiton is her family, the Baker family's, domain. If she likes it there so much, tell her to go back. It's better if she doesn't return!"Suddenly, a noise came from outside. Charles frowned, stood up

Maxwell's withered eyes were unusually sharp. "Oh? Have you finished your discussion? It's been a while since I've seen you. Why don't you stay for dinner tonight?"Maxwell was no fool. Clarisse had arrived in the morning, and Charles came in the afternoon. Whatever business Charles had with Mateo and Henry could have been resolved at the company. The only explanation was that Clarisse wanted to see Charles. However, years of estrangement could not be thawed in a day. Clarisse had left Brookville and the Hoffman family many years ago, rarely returning. This time around, she even brought Janet back with her. Anyone could see her intentions. It was no wonder why Charles was angry.Charles' brows furrowed slightly, but he did not refuse. "Let me help you downstairs, Grandpa.""Alright," Maxwell agreed.Meanwhile, Clarisse stood at the doorway, watching Charles ignore her existence as he went downstairs with Maxwell. She felt a surge of frustration that she could not express. She

"Sorry," Henry interrupted Clarisse, his gaze somewhat cold and distant. "This is your and Mateo's personal affair. It's hard for an outsider like me to say anything.""Outsider?" Clarisse's face paled slightly, becoming tinged with bitterness. "Henry, you're actually saying that we..."Henry said pointedly, "Clarisse, we should go down for dinner. You haven't been to Brookville in a long time. The Hoffman residence's chef isn't the same as before."With that, Clarisse's expression grew even more unpleasant. Then, Clarisse watched Henry leave while standing motionless with her fists clenched, staring blankly at his retreating figure.Janet stood nearby for a while, not fully understanding Clarisse's earlier words. However, just thinking about how Charles treated her made her upset."Aunt Clary, you must help me. You watched me grow up, and you know how I feel about Charles. Kelly used to be in the picture. Now that she's gone, why won't Charles accept me?"Clarisse's eyes flicke

"Uncle Charles, it's been a long time since you've seen me. Did you miss me?""Of course, I did!" Charles playfully pinched Anna's nose. "Did you miss me, Anna?""Yes, I missed you very much." As if afraid Charles would not believe her, Anna took his hand and planted a big kiss on his cheek, making everyone in the Hoffman family burst into laughter."Now that everyone's here, let's start dinner," Maxwell said. As the head of the family, he understood the situation between his children but chose not to mention it.Fortunately, Anna's presence helped ease the tension. With the child around, the conversation topics became much lighter. After dinner, Chloe carried Anna over to Charles. "Was the urgent phone call just about this?" She glanced at Clarisse and Janet in the living room. "Mother really shouldn't have brought her along."Chloe harbored no goodwill toward Janet, stemming from an incident years ago. "It's getting late, and Anna needs to sleep," she said."Yes, I should be g

Janet said pitifully, "But Chloe seems to dislike me a lot. Aunt Clary, what did I do wrong? Why does it seem like no one in the Hoffman family likes me?""Silly child, it's not your fault. It's their problem," Clarisse consoled Janet, who was on the verge of tears. Her pitiful appearance made Clarisse's heart ache.Clarisse lived in Capiton for years, raising Janet by her side and loving her like her own daughter. She treated Janet far better than she ever treated Chloe. At that moment, Charles walked in front while carrying Anna, with Chloe following behind. As they entered the living room, their gazes turned sharp and cold upon seeing Clarisse and Janet.Janet quickly stood up when Charles finally came in, but her eyes betrayed unmistakable jealousy when she saw Anna in his arms. "Charles, you..."Charles swept a piercing gaze over her before settling on Clarisse. "It's getting late. Chlo and I will be heading back now. Mother, you should rest early too.""Charlie!" Clarisse c

Chloe laughed at Clarisse's words, but her gaze remained cold. "How do you think I should speak to you, Mother?" she asked, her icy gaze making Clarisse momentarily afraid, much like when she looked at Charles earlier.Charles gave Clarisse and Janet a dispassionate glance before saying, "Anna's already sleepy. Let's go, Chlo. I'll take you home."He then left with Anna, not looking back.Chloe smirked, feeling a twinge of satisfaction at Clarisse's pale face. "Mother, you should rest early. I'm leaving now."Chloe came with a driver since her husband, Jordy Charlton, was on a business trip. She only learned of her mother's return when Charles called her.Outside, Chloe saw Charles putting Anna in his car. She hurried over and said, "Charlie, let me take Anna. I brought the driver today."Charles nodded. "Sure. You should head home soon. I'll be on my way too.""Charlie!" Chloe called out, hesitating before sighing. "Our mother has been away from Brookville for so long. It's nor

Noelle stood up, pointing at her own slippers. She then raised one foot close to Charles', wiggling it in the air. "Look, these are mine. We have a matching pair! Don't you think they're lovely? Aren't they pretty?"As she swayed her foot, Noelle grabbed Charles' arm. However, her movement was a bit too enthusiastic, causing her to nearly lose balance. Luckily, she held onto his sleeve. She giggled sheepishly as she repeated the question, "Don't you like them?"Just then, Noelle's hopeful gaze met Charles' eyes. He narrowed his long eyes slightly, then gently tapped Noelle's nose. "I do like them.""If you like them, put them on quickly!" Noelle urged.Faced with Noelle's eager anticipation, Charles could only put on the slippers with a resigned smile. "Did you go to the mall alone?""Nope!" Pleased with Charles's cooperation, Noelle wrapped her arms around his neck. She stood on tiptoes to kiss the corner of his mouth, then hung onto his neck with a grin. "I invited Peter and Sea

Charles' eyes flickered as he gently kissed Noelle's forehead. "How did I lie to you?" he asked softly."You said just once. But how many times was it?" Noelle mumbled with her eyes half-closed. "Hmm? I think you misunderstood, my dear," he replied with a slight smirk. Noelle protested weakly, "Next time, you're sleeping in the guest room.""Come on, don't fall asleep yet. I'll carry you for a bath," Charles whispered in her ear, but Noelle was already drifting off. "I'm so tired," she murmured.Charles shook his head in amusement. He then carried her to the bathroom.Meanwhile, she kept her eyes closed the entire time and eventually fell asleep. After bathing her, he gently placed her back in bed and tucked her in. He then changed into casual homewear and went to his study. In the study, the desk was cluttered with blueprints and data sheets. Charles picked one up, his eyes narrowing as he examined the calculations. With a slight smile, he sat down, marking key points on the

Sean felt a deep irritation rising within him. Savannah always assumed that Liliana was still clinging to him, unaware that she had long stopped loving him. Now, she probably wished he would disappear from her sight altogether. How could she possibly still be chasing after him?Yet every time Savannah spoke like this, it felt like a knife twisting in his heart, making it even harder to bear.He desperately wanted to find an escape, some way to let go, but he could not do it no matter what he did. He simply could not bring himself to let go.To Savannah, his impatience only added to her displeasure toward Liliana. "I'm talking to you! Are you even listening?" she snapped. I don't care what that woman does. I'll never approve of your relationship with her, so you'd better give up!"Sean's eyes remained fixed on his phone. On the screen was a private message from Charles. It was a video taken just moments ago in the Hoffman family's living room, where they had been discussing Liliana

Liliana flinched slightly. "Grandpa, I'm really not in a hurry right now.""How can you not be?" Maxwell sighed. "Look at the rest—they're all married. You're the only one still single in the Hoffman family. How can I not be worried?"He let out another heavy sigh, shaking his head. "I'm getting old. I've spent so much of my energy worrying about you all."Liliana could not help but smile wryly. "Grandpa, don't say that. I really have been thinking about it. Once Bobby recovers, I'll take my future more seriously.""Really?" Maxwell's eyes lit up. "Well then, don't you worry about Bobby's illness. If you don't want to go to the Smith family's hospital, that's fine. I'll find an even better hospital for him."I'll make sure someone takes care of it. You just focus on yourself, and leave the rest to me."Liliana chuckled. "Alright." She gently patted Bobby's back, soothing him as he drifted off to sleep.Once he was completely asleep, she stood up. Yves had no objections. If anything, he was eager to marry Kelly as soon as possible. With a smile, he nodded and instinctively glanced at Kelly.Kelly, however, was caught off guard as she looked around at everyone in confusion. She had not expected the conversation, which had been about Noelle and Charles, to suddenly shift to her and Yves. She had been trying to minimize her presence, but somehow, Maxwell had turned his attention to their relationship. For a moment, Kelly felt flustered. "I…""Kelly, what are you still thinking about?" Maxwell said persuasively. "Yves is such a good man. Besides, you two already have a child, and Seth is growing up fast. Do you really want him to grow up without a complete family?"No one knew where Maxwell had picked up his knack for emotional persuasion, but his words left Kelly speechless.Seeing her hesitation, Maxwell turned his gaze to Seth, who stood between Yves and Kelly. "Seth, tell Great-Grandpa—do you like Daddy?""I do!" Seth nod

"What are you talking about, Grandpa?" Noelle protested, clearly displeased. "You have to stick around and watch the little ones grow up!"Maxwell chuckled, delighted by her response. "This girl always knows what to say! But you and Charlie have been married for so long without a wedding or a banquet. Now, you don't even plan on hosting a proper celebration for the babies. What's the point of me staying around if I can't see these things happen?"Noelle was momentarily stunned. She had not expected him to steer the conversation in this direction, leaving her at a loss for words.Maxwell's statement quickly gained support from the others. Mateo and Henry both agreed that a wedding should be held."Exactly! You two have been married for ages, and there are still plenty of people out there who don't even know Noelle is part of the Hoffman family! Now that you've had kids, isn't it time to make things official?"Mateo turned to Charles. "And you, kid—say something! Your wife gave birt

Instead, she had only one request, which was for him to take care of Liliana, to watch over her, and to ensure she lived a safe and peaceful life. That woman had never asked for anything in her lifetime. In her final moments, her only wish was for Liliana to grow up in good health, without longing for wealth or status.Liliana seemed to sense someone watching her. Noelle was speechless.Could someone please tell her why there was such blatant favoritism between two children born to the same parents? The people nearby had also noticed the situation, and soon, muffled laughter spread through the crowd.Even Yves and Kelly could not help but chuckle. Charles was clearly a devoted husband and a doting father—but only to his daughter. As for his son… It seemed Connor now had the lowest rank in the family.Yves shook his head and glanced down at Connor, who had stopped crying. The little boy simply stared at Glitter as if watching her intently.Noelle sighed, feeling both exasperated and amused. Was Charles being biased? Connor was just as adorable!Meanwhile, on the other side of the hall, Clarisse had previously reached out to Liliana in private, hoping she would return to the family. At first, Liliana had remained noncommittal. Later, even Maxwell had personally approached her, expressing his desire for her to come back, admitting that the

She sighed as she glanced at her sister, who was still oblivious.Meanwhile, Yves and Charles seemed to have reached an agreement on stage. The two men shook hands before stepping down together.Charles walked straight to Noelle's side and, without hesitation, took Nora from her arms. The moment Nora saw him, her bright eyes sparkled with excitement. She let out a series of delighted coos, clearly overjoyed to be in his arms. She was barely a month old, yet somehow, she was already showing favoritism.Noelle could not help but feel a little jealous. She had been holding Nora just moments ago, yet the little one had not shown this level of enthusiasm.Pouting, she reached out and gently pinched Nora's cheek. In response, Nora turned her head away, ignoring Noelle entirely. Instead, she snuggled into Charles' chest, continuing her happy babbling.Noelle scowled. "Hmph, ungrateful litt

Charles chuckled. "Are you sure?"Yves narrowed his eyes and leaned in close, lowering his voice so only the two of them could hear. "Charles, what the hell are you up to?"Charles smirked. "Nothing much. I just want to make sure you're certain about this."His gaze suddenly shifted toward Kelly. "Tell me, do you think my dear sister-in-law might find someone better?"A sharp glint flashed through Yves' narrowed eyes. "Charles, aren't you afraid I'll take over Collosus Group entirely?" His teeth clenched as frustration flickered across his face.Charles simply shrugged, utterly unbothered. "I'm just afraid you won't.""You—" Yves could feel the vein in his temple pulsing. He never expected Charles—renowned for his ruthless decisiveness—to be such a schemer! He was utterly devoid of a moral compass. "Where is your conscience?"Charles arched a brow. "Can't help it. I have a wife and kids to take care of. I don't have time to waste.""And I do?"
