Chapter 145

Author: Chweety
Charles kept his lips tight and stared straight ahead. His focused and serious expression left Noelle no time to think about anything else.

She gripped the handle with both hands as Charles accelerated again, overtaking another car at the next bend.

Noelle felt the wind rushing past her ears. It was an indescribable sensation. Her heart pounded in her throat, and she felt like she might scream at any moment.

As Charles overtook another car, Noelle heard someone outside curse in awe, "Holy crap! This guy's a legend!"

Noelle bit her pale lip, glancing at Charles under the dim interior light. The man outside was right—Charles really was something else.

Seeing his calm demeanor, Noelle bit her lip and asked, "Were you a race car driver?"

Charles raised an eyebrow, his lips curving into a smile. "Scared now?"

Noelle shook her head. Seeing that Charles could still talk to her, she could not help but worry. "I'd better not distract you. Just focus on driving!" Then, she added, "Actuall

Noelle stared at Charles and then turned to look behind them. The other cars were already far behind Charles'. "How did you do that?"Before she could finish her sentence, Charles' eyes grew sharp. "Hold on tight." As he spoke, he floored the accelerator, speeding through the rough terrain."Fuck!" The red-haired man, who had been in first place, saw Charles accelerating on the most dangerous part of the road. "Is he crazy?"Usually, they would slow down on this stretch, but Charles had sped up instead.Noelle gripped the handle tightly, her entire body grew tense. Her heart was seemingly pounding in her throat. However, she had no choice but to trust Charles completely. To Noelle's surprise, the car came to a sudden stop. She turned to Charles in bewilderment. He gently patted her head. “That's good!”He cared about winning, but not in this context.Charles drove to the finish line with a sense of joy, and as expected, they lost the race. However, the red-haired man could not help but admire Charles when his car arrived. "Man, where do you race? You're pretty good."The red-haired man tossed Charles a cigarette, which he caught. However, he just played with it without answering. The man raised an eyebrow, impressed by Charles' demeanor. "Interested in joining our team?"Charles smiled. "I lost!""No, we lost!" The red-haired man, who could take a loss gracefully, understood Charles' skill. He was amazed. Having been in the racing world for so long, he had not expected to find someone who could drive like that. They were professional racers, calculating every detail and knowing their limits. However, seeing Charles' performance with just a luxury sedan was a fi

The group howled in excitement, but Sully just smirked. It was the first time he had seen Jim so serious. After Charles led Noelle to the car, they drove away. Noelle's mind was still replaying the scene of their kiss. She could not believe she had kissed him, and when she came to her senses, Charles had taken it seriously and refused to let her go.Noelle cautiously glanced at Charles, thinking she was being discreet. As she watched his profile, she swallowed nervously and licked her dry lips.Charles' narrow eyes met hers, as if he were a predator locking onto its prey. Noelle's heart skipped a beat, and she quickly looked away with her heart racing. She stammered, "Y-You could have won, and they even admitted it! Why didn't you take the prize?"Charles raised an eyebrow and smiled. "Do you really want the prize?"Noelle initially wanted to say no, but instead, she nodded. "Yes. Your skills were clearly better. "I'm not sure," Ronald admitted. "The video did come from an IP address associated with the York family, but whether Simon was responsible is unclear. Our team intercepted it, but Julian also received a copy."Mr. Hoffman, what do you think Simon and Julian are up to?" Ronald was puzzled. "Simon has everything he could want. Why target your wife? And Julian, he’s her father, yet..." Ronald caught himself almost misspeaking and quickly corrected, "Yet he behaves like this."Charles replied coldly, "Profit, of course. What else do businessmen care about? Noelle doesn’t have shares in City Ring Corp. Logically, marrying her to Xavier would be the best choice as it wouldn’t remove any shares from City Ring Corp. But he didn’t do that!"Charles was also puzzled regarding this matter. If Julian intended to give Noelle to Simon, he must have expected to gain something from Simon."Find out what happened between Noelle and the Shaw family!" Charles sensed something was off. Although Noelle

"You came here in the middle of the night just for this?"After a long silence, Charles finally asked, "Are you afraid?"Noelle felt a bit lost and nodded. "I am a little scared. Will you help me?"Charles curled his lips into a smile. Seeing Noelle's anxious expression, he realized she was genuinely frightened. Reputation was indeed very important for a woman. "You don’t need to worry about this for now. I’ll take care of it."Since they were already married, he would not let this matter go unchecked.Seeing Noelle visibly relax, he smiled. "Don't worry about it. It's late. Go rest."Noelle bit her lip. Her previously agitated mind was now calm thanks to Charles. She trusted that he would help her. She could not quite pinpoint as to why she believed this, but she just felt that Charles was reliable.Seeing Noelle still standing there, Charles raised an eyebrow. "Robert!"Lareal raised an eyebrow in surprise. "You haven't fixed it yet?""Well, I've been tied up with other stuff, or I wouldn't have asked for your help!" Ronald said with a shrug. Lareal booted up the computer and looked at Ronald curiously. "What's up?"Ronald explained, "It's about the boss's wife. It's a real headache, and I might need your help later on!""The boss' wife? When did Mr. Hoffman get married? Why didn't I hear about it?" Lareal's eyes sparkled with excitement....Meanwhile, Winter stormed into her house, her rage causing a path of destruction and leaving the Shaw family's maids too frightened to show their faces. Only Lucy, the maid who always stuck by Winter's side, was left to tidy up the chaos.Winter was fuming from the snub she received at the mall. She was the Shaw family's pride and joy, not to mention a famous star. Should people in town not be lining up to give her the time of day? However, Charles had ignored her completely, and worse, he rec

Samiel knew Winter's true colors all too well. She might act all proper when she was out, but at home, she was a different person. Her petty tricks might fool others, but they did not fool him."Domestic helpers are people too. They work hard for their money and deserve respect. You shouldn't be hitting people and breaking things. Where did you get such a temper?" Samuel tapped his cane on the floor before turning to Julian. "Look at the fine daughter you've raised.""Dad!" Julian was taken aback. He never thought Winter would do such things, especially at home. He believed that despite her occasional spoiled behavior, she was still a well-mannered young lady who might complain a bit about Noelle but nothing more. "I'll make sure to teach her a lesson about this.""Please teach her the right way," Samuel said, clearly not convinced. "I just don't understand how you've raised her. She's been overly competitive since she was little, always taking things from Noelle. Snatching a toy is

Jade ushered Winter into the room. After shutting the door, she gave her a stern look. "What's gotten into you? Didn't I tell you to hold it in? You can't lose your temper at home, especially not in situations like this."Jade's heart sank as she recalled Samuel's attitude. She had been part of the Shaw family for years, but Samuel had always been distant toward her, and it was the same with her children."Mom, I know I messed up. Please don't be mad at me anymore!" Winter, ever the skilled actress, had quickly pulled herself together and was now sweetly holding Jade's hand. "I didn't manage to stay calm today, but do you know why?" Winter bit her lip, still upset about it.Jade knew her daughter well. Winter was usually so graceful and knew exactly how to act around others. She would not normally do something so out of character as she did today. "What happened?"Winter said with frustration, "It's all Noelle's fault.""Noelle? What does she have to do with it? Their gazes were cold and indifferent. Even at school, the way those elite students looked at her was filled with mockery. She was only five when her mother brought her to this bustling metropolis, leading her straight to this grand yet icy mansion. The people here were dressed elegantly, so dazzling that it was impossible to look away. Even though she loved him deeply now, Noelle still felt as if a part of her memory was missing. It seemed unfair to Charles.Charles simply smiled, lowering his head to place a gentle kiss on the corner of her lips."Alright. Whatever you want to know, I'll tell you." He agreed, his tone warm and unwavering. "But before that, I think we have something more important to do.""What is it?" Noelle looked up at him, her eyes shimmering with a misty glow that made Charles' heart ripple."Our wedding night, of course, Mrs. Hoffman."Noelle's face turned bright red in an instant. "But… we're in a hotel, not Phoenix Tree Residence!""It doesn't matter where we are. As long as I have you, that's all that matters."Tonight, every word Charles spoke was as if dipped in honey, making Noelle's heart race. She stole a shy glance at him. "Charlie, I forgot about you. Tell me the truth—are you angry?"Charles sighed. "No, how could I ever be angry with you?"He reached out and gently tucked a strand of Noelle's hair behind her ear. Seeing the seriousness in her eyes, he let out a soft chuckle. "Even if you never remember me for the rest of your life, I still wouldn't be angry.""Really?"Charles nodded.Noelle hesitated for a moment, then mustered the courage to look straight at him. "Charlie… if—just hypothetically—if things between me and Xavier had never gone wrong… If Winter never came between us and I was still with Xavier… What would you have done? Would you have just watched me get engaged to him? Marry him? And then—"Before she could finish, Charles pressed a finger against her lips, silencing her.Noelle blinked and saw that his gaze had deepened. He wrapped his arms tightly around her waist."No. That would never happen," he said firmly. The very thought of her with someone else, marrying someone else

The moment Noelle finished speaking, the world seemed to fall silent.Charles' lips curved into a faint smile, his eyes glinting with amusement. Yet if one looked closely, there was a serious intensity in his gaze as he fixed it on Noelle. "Hmm? What did my wife just say?"Noelle shot him a sharp glare. "I don't care. Whatever it is, you're not allowed to read it. Give it back!"She pouted, her expression just as serious and determined.Charles raised an eyebrow, surprised by how adamant she was.Though curiosity tugged at him, he would not force her if she felt so strongly about it. "Alright, I won't read it."Hearing this, Noelle exhaled in relief and reached out her hand. "Then give it back."Charles' eyes glimmered with amusement. "I promise I won't read it now, but I'll wait for the day you show it to me yourself."After saying that, he placed the diary into Noelle's hand. So, that was why the name felt so familiar—because Noelle had known Charles since she was a child. No wonder, the first time she met him, his gaze had seemed to pierce right through her as if he were looking for someone else. Had he been looking at her all along?Noelle reached up and touched her own face, realization washing over her. The memories she had lost all this time… They were about Charles? Her emotions swelled uncontrollably. Moving carefully, she knelt before him, her gaze fixed intently on his face. She compared his features to the descriptions she had recorded in her diary. With a trembling hand, she reached out, stopping just shy of touching his cheek. She simply watched him, quietly, taking in his features. They were so similar to the ones she had once described in her diary. A sudden chuckle escaped her lips.Even though she still could not recall the details of how they had met, she could tell from her own words just how much she must have liked him back then. O

Noelle smiled softly. "It's nothing. He probably just drank too much."Tania handed her a cup. "Here's some honey water. Let my brother drink some later."She paused for a moment before adding, "Don't worry about Ice and Glitter. Peter and I will take care of them.""Thank you, Tania." Noelle had indeed been worrying about the babies. The adults could stay up celebrating, but Connor and Nora were only two months old. They needed rest."It's nothing," Tania reassured her. "This is such a big day for you two. Don't worry, we'll take good care of the kids. Most of the guests have already left, and Grandpa and the others have gone home too."Noelle nodded. "What about you?""Peter and I will take Bran home soon, but we'll stop by Phoenix Tree Residence first to check on the babies.""Alright.""Just stay here and rest for now. Sean and the others are still partying pretty hard. I doubt they'll be leaving anytime soon."After Tania left, Noelle tested the temperature of the honey

This wedding was nothing short of spectacular. Every moment was meticulously recorded by a dedicated team, with cameras set up throughout the venue to capture every detail of the ceremony from all angles.Charles and Noelle barely had a moment to rest as they moved from table to table, toasting guests with endless glasses of wine. The atmosphere remained lively and joyous deep into the night. It was not until the early hours of the morning that Noelle finally helped Charles to a private lounge on the second floor of the hotel.Though many had stepped in to shield them from excessive drinking, there was no avoiding the celebratory nature of the occasion. The alcohol had inevitably taken its toll. After settling Charles onto the couch, Noelle fetched some honey water and a warm towel before returning to his side.Charles lay slightly on his side, propping his chin up with one hand. Noelle sat beside him and handed him the towel, but he did not reach for it.Sighing, she called soft

Sean clicked his tongue, shaking his head in amusement. "Charles, your body is here, but your heart is clearly somewhere else."Then, as if making an even bigger discovery, he gestured toward a spot not far away. "Oh, I say, Charles, this is a real crisis. See that?"With the enthusiasm of someone who thrived on drama, Sean pointed at Noelle and Grant. "I don't know, man. That guy doesn't look like he's here with good intentions."Charles raised an eyebrow, his gaze darkening as it settled on Noelle and Grant. He gripped his glass a little tighter, but his eyes refused to move away from them. Still, his words were dismissive. "He's just another big brother-in-law. That's all.""Yeah, right. Just admit it—he's a strong rival."The second Sean finished speaking, he felt an icy stare pierce through him. Charles' glare was sharp enough to cut. "Hmm? What did you just say?""Nothing!" Sean swallowed hard, instantly backtracking. Dear god, a jealous man was terrifying!"You think he's

Grant's eyes carried too many emotions—too many things unspoken. Noelle could not fully understand, but she could sense that there was something significant behind his words. The diary in her hands had to hold something important that was possibly related to the past she had forgotten. Perhaps they were the lost pieces of her memory that she had always assumed were not crucial. She had assumed so because otherwise, she would have recalled them after all these years. Besides, they had not seemed to affect her life in any meaningful way.Over time, she had gradually let go of the idea of remembering.Yet now, with Grant handing her this diary, an unsettling feeling crept over her as if she had forgotten something incredibly important—something she could not afford to lose.Holding the diary tightly, Noelle felt a strange mix of emotions that she could not quite describe. She hesitated before murmuring, "Thank you."In the end, she did not ask Grant where he had gotten the diary.
