6-months later

Mayeli put on her new pearl necklace and earrings and stared in the mirror again. She was taking extra care with her appearance today. She was wearing a bold pink two-piece suit, and her hair was styled in curly waves that fell down her back.

On her feet were a pair of white Zara heels and a white Chanel purse. She had applied light makeup,p, and so far, she was killing it.

She and Killian were meeting in court today. She had been begging and trying to reach him for months, and he had ignored her. Last week she received a letter from the court. Killian wanted custody of Bryelle.

The letter had been the last straw. If he wasn’t ever going to forgive her, then it was fine, but he had no right to take her child away from her.

Killian had more competent lawyers and he had higher odds of winning the case since she had kept Bryelle from him first, but Mayeli was not giving up.

She picked up the keys to her Audi and headed outside. Bryelle was staying with Shaila at the momen

It felt so easy to use the word daughter now, and he smiled. He adjusted his black Brioni suit and stepped out of the car. He had tried his best to look good today. He wasn’t sure who he was trying to impress. Mayeli or Bryelle, the former was probably the case. They had been avoiding each other for weeks since the hearing and meeting. Mayeli today was nerve-wracking. Usually, when it was his turn to spend time with Bryelle, Truce or Tyse picked her up from Mayeli’s, but today Truce was out of the country for a business meeting, while Tyse was having a date with Jasmine.Perfect timing! As much as Killian hated to admit it, he still had deep feelings for Mayeli. Her actions had broken him, but his heart was not yet willing to process it. Mayeli, on her part, had not forgiven him for the incident with Diana and for trying to take Bryelle from her, and the walls between them just

Mayeli slipped out of her robe and put on a very short blue very exposing blue dress. She felt like going wild tonight. Any moment from now, Diora was going to show up at her door, so she hurriedly applied her makeup.Thankfully, she and Diora were having a much-needed girls' night out. In the past, they had one every Friday night, but now they were too busy with work and boy problems to consider. Mayeli missed the days when it was just work and fun, no complicated relationships, now she could barely breathe and her heart throbbed so much just for one man who cared very little about her.She hadn’t slept in days, and she felt so tired, but she knew if she stayed in tonight, she’d lose it. She had seen him, she had seen Killian and the pain would be more.Mayeli chuckled sardonically and started to apply her eyeliner. Her phone beeped and she picked it up, expecting to see Diora’s message, only it wasn’t hers.“You look ravishing in that dress, Mayeli, going for a night out?”_unknown.

Alberto’s voice was huskier now, and the look in his eyes did nothing to hide his intentions.Mayeli heard a voice in her head screaming for her not to follow him, but she ignored the voice. She was single now, and she was doing nothing wrong.Alberto opened the door to a dimly lit well-furnished room. It had a bed a couch and a few other furniture. The walls

Killian parked his car hurriedly in front of the clubhouse, silent thanking God that Mayeli had ridden the car he had once placed a tracker on.He killed the engine and jumped out, shutting the door with the same haste. He pressed the lock button and headed inside the bar, taking the stairs two at a time.Killian ignored the female heads turning towards his direction. He had simply thrown on a light-brown shirt and a loose black trouser. He wondered what they were staring at.He searched the crowd for Mayeli and soon found her sitting beside Diora at the bar. It was obvious that she was drunk yet she still was drinking.Killian worked angrily towards them. Yanking the glass of whiskey from her hand, he placed it with a little too much force on the table. He turned to Diora.“Why would you let her drink this much? What kind of friend are you?”Diora glared at him. “Don’t you dare say that to me! You’re the reason she needed drinking in the first place! Killian carefully set the plate of omelette on the kitchen table. He was sure Mayeli would wake up anytime soon, and he wanted to be ready for her outburst. Next, he placed a plate of freshly baked bread, a bowl of hangover soup, a plate of roasted beef, and a jar of apple juice.Killian’s phone rang and he pulled it from his pocket. It was his private investigator. He picked it up. “Ross”.Ross went straight to the point as usual. “I found out a little about Mayeli’s father”.“Go on”.“He had quite several prominent enemies, and several people would love to hurt his family as revenge if they found them”.“So you think her blackmailer is one of those people”.“I’m not sure yet, but that would make sense”.Killian narrowed his eyes, taking a deep breath. This was just getting even more complicated. Ross was the most competent private investigator Killian knew about, so he had hired him. But with this case, it was like the more they got closer to the truth, the more it evaded them.“Ok

Killian froze as he stared at his doctor, his vision blurred by the tears that were pooling around his eyes. “She has what?”His doctor sighed. “Neuroblastoma, Mr Reon. I’m sorry”.Killian gulped. He was still trying to process the information his doctor had just revealed.Bryelle had cancer. This was something Killian saw in movies or heard about people, not something that was happening to his child.“Tha…that sounds bad…” His voice trailed off. Neuroblastoma it was a Cancer that originates from immature nerve cells. How long had Bryelle had it? What was going to happen? Why was this happening now when he had just got to know her?"This can't be happening to my child," Killian mumbled over and over again. “Maybe we should run more tests again, maybe it was a mistake”. His voice trembled as he spoke.“I ran the tests twice, Killian. However, if you want us to, I can run the tests again”.Doctor Gail’s office suddenly became too dark. She could hear her heart slamming against her chest as Killian’s words replayed in her head.“Bryelle was just diagnosed with Neuroblastoma.”How could that happen to her baby? How was it even possible? It was her fault; she had made her daughter’s life so traumatic, and now she had brain cancer. What was she going to do without her child? The thought of losing another child sent waves of shock pulsing through her. How could life be so cruel?“Mayeli?” Her mother asked in alarm when she saw her. Kreed laughed and stood up. He picked up the baseball bat he had been holding and threw it to Tyse.“Beat Killian to death with it, and I’d let you live. You did nothing to offend me, did you?”Mayeli’s eyes widened.“What?” Tyse asked.“You know it’s either you or him, right? Or mostly both. So why don’t you save yourself?”Mayeli thought of what to do to buy time. Of course, no one was coming to save them, since Kreed said he had taken care of the police, but she had no other option. She couldn’t watch what was about to happen. She’d rather die first.“Kreed, when did you become this evil? There’s still a way out of this, you don’t have to commit more murders.”Kreed laughed for a long time, and when he stopped, he faced Mayeli. “The day your father burnt down my family, he created an unrepentant monster. I only trained the monster. First I worked with the CIA, then with the FBI, then as a special intelligence security agent, and when I was convinced I had learnt everything I wanted

Mayeli and Killian turned to see Kreed standing a few feet from them. He was wearing the same outfit he had been wearing this morning before she had left him. Black turtle-neck top, black trousers, black boots and a dark brown long coat. But this time there was something different. He was wearing black gloves. But that wasn’t it. What was he doing here? How did he know she was here? She told no one.Kreed took a step forward, and Killian immediately reached for his pocket.Kreed was faster. “Let me borrow your words. I won’t dare if I were in your shoes because I’ll shoot you down without hesitation. Now rid yourself of your weapons and don’t try to play smart.”Killian did as he was told.Mayeli couldn’t believe her ears. This was Kreed, right? Or did he have a twin? Or perhaps was this a replica of him? Or cloning? She didn’t understand. Why was Kreed pointing a gun at them?“Kreed. What’s happening? I don’t understand.” But Mayeli was beginning to understand. He had trusted them to take care of her while he was away, but they had done just the opposite. They had begged and apologized severally, but he wasn’t forgiving them yet. He’d make them work for their forgiveness, and so far, they’ve been doing just that.“Maybe you should take the wheel!” Tyse barked at Truce. “I’ll drive faster, Killian,” he replied, Killian with a smile.“If that bitch, Shaila so much as touch my woman, I won’t hesitate to strangle her with my hands”, Killian said through his teeth. How could he have missed the signs? He had known Shaila wasn’t the sister she pretended to be, and he had known she was still obsessed, but he didn’t

“I don’t understand,” Mayeli said, carefully. Shaila was getting drunk, and Mayeli feared what she would do to her. At the moment, she wasn’t the woman Mayeli had known all her life, she was a wounded animal seeking blood.“I met Killian in our second grade. He was two levels higher than me, so we never really talked. Everyone loved him, everyone wanted him, and I wanted him more than any of them. And one day, I went home after school and he was with his parents in our house. Father had introduced them as his friends and ours, and had told us they were going to have dinner with us.I still remembered how overjoyed I had been that day. I had asked my maid, Nisha, to make me the prettiest little girl ever, and during dinner, I did everything to get Killian’s attention, but he didn’t care. He didn’t even notice my hair or dress or anything, but I didn’t give up. After dinner, he talked to me, he told me my dress was pretty and he liked my tiara. I was so overjoyed that I couldn’t sleep t

She hadn't met Killian since that day at the mall and she couldn't wait to see him. Her heart was racing already, and she could feel a hunger in her lower belly, a hunger he had awakened. The elevator stopped and the doors slid open. Mayeli stepped out eagerly, heading for the last building on the floor. When she reached, she rang Killian’s office doorbell. No one answered. She rang it again, but nothing. Thankfully, she knew the key pass.“I'm coming in,” she said, and pushed the door open. Surprisingly, the office was empty. The office was just the way Mayeli remembered, the same. White high walls, one glass wall showing off the breathtaking view of the City of London, a large oak table and a chair behind it and two in front. A mini-parlour of four black cushions and a white table, and lastly a glass shelf holding Killian's books, magazines, trophies, and aw

Mayeli decided to let her be. She would come around when she wanted to.The doorbell rang, and Bryelle went to get it. She returned a few minutes later.“Mom, it’s Kreed.” She walked past them into her room. Am I hallucinating? How’s this even possible?”She started to check his body. “Are you real? Are you hurt or burnt?” Tears were already flowing down her pale cheeks again. “How’s this possible. Am I losing it?”Killian knew she had too many questions, but he couldn’t explain, not yet. He was here to warn her and he didn’t have much time.He turned her to face him and almost regretted it when his eyes fell on her fleshy, exposed, full and ready for him. Today was his girlfriend’s birthday, but he had been with her all day. “Aren’t you going to meet Sonia?”The smile faded from Kreed’s handsome face. “We met before I came by this morning.”Mayeli sighed.
