As soon as he heard the voice, Charlie turned around to look for its source.

As the story progresses Charlie changes so it’s really a story full of protagonist excluding Claire. From what I’ve read she doesn’t have a big impact on the story other than being married to Charlie.

There is no plot to any of these “books.” A young boy doesn’t have a great life. He’s given a great life. He doesn’t help others. He bullies people, beats them up and kills them. The end.
