Chapter 7: You Don't Mean Anything to Me

“Dad, once I finish wrapping up and settling everything here, I’ll come home.”

On the other end of the line, Mr Stephens felt the lump in his throat become bigger. From her voice, he could tell that she had been crying.

“Okay, Lex. Your mother and I will be waiting for you at home. And Lex?”

“Yes, dad?”

“I’m sorry, Lex. I never should've abandoned you.”

Hanging up the phone, Emily covered her face in her palms. She was already an adult, but here was she, making her parents worry about her still, after she had caused them many heartaches. All because she had decided to follow Hunter.

Dave took the phone back and waited quietly while Emily continued to cry, more openly now that she had needed the call.

Five minutes later, Emily calmed down, took the tissue Dave had earlier offered, used it to wipe her tears and asked in a hoarse voice,

“Can I borrow the social media account of your cousin’s company?”

Star Entertainment Network (Sen) was owned by Dave's cousin, Francis Stern, and to promote his company's artists, Francis had lots of Social Media accounts and each had a large following. Thankfully, Francis was well acquainted with Emily and they had almost dated once.

Dave was silent for a moment, but when he saw that Emily wasn't going to volunteer more information, he took out his phone,

“Sure, let me call him.”

While Dave tried to reach out to Francis, Emily looked out of the windows and stared at the glass walls of Dell Wares Ltd.

What had made me think I could make Hunter fall in love with me? She wondered.

Three years later, and she had been unable to occupy a tiny area in his heart. Of course, it was impossible to capture the heart of a man that was already occupied by another woman.

Well, thank God she had realized her mistakes early on. And it was all going to be over soon.

But, after all the humiliation and pain she had suffered at the hands of the Thornes, Emily wasn't about to let things go like that. Hunter had asked her to apologize right? She was going to apologize. She was going to apologize so good he would never forget her apologies.

When Dave finished speaking and ended the call, he turned to Emily and found her staring out of the car window. It was getting late, so half of her face was shrouded in the dark. But even from the way she sat, he knew she was thinking about Hunter.

“B, how about we go out and celebrate today,” he suggested.

Emily turned to face him when he started the car,

“I'm sorry Dave. But I don't think I can go. I need to save my strength to carry out my plans.”

Dave laughed

“It seems like you're in a better mood today.”

“You know, Dave. When Katty died, I felt my whole world would come to an end. Why would I feel the same way about someone who doesn't even give a f*ck about me.”

Dave laughed again. Katty had been a cat. So if Emily had compared her grief over losing Hunter to being less than her pain over Katty’s death, then it meant she was really over him.

Dave had been worried that Emily would become depressed, but now, it seemed like he had underestimated her and her level of hatred for Hunter now.

That night, Dave went to bed when it was barely 10 o'clock. On the contrary, Emily was so angry with those netizens that she didn't sleep until three o'clock in the morning. As a result, she stayed in bed until nearly nine o'clock the next day.

When Dave walked out of his room with sleepy eyes, he noticed that Emily was already dressed up and had makeup on. She was picking up her bag, ready to leave the house.

Emily had a typical appearance of models. She had beautiful eyes and delicate facial features. She was not the kind of beauty who would turn heads but one that could make one never forget her.

That day, she was dressed simply but inexplicably sexy. She wore a dark brown off-shoulder sweater, a pair of dark blue trousers, and a pair of black oxford shoes. Her long hair was laid down, her shoulders were straight and her legs were long and slender. Her whole person was inexplicably a combination of tenderness and sexiness, which was very pleasing to the eye.

Dave was very satisfied with Emily's outfit. It looked a little solemn, yet also charming.

Very good!

"I'll be going out now."

Emily picked up the phone on the table and glanced at Dave.

Dave ran over and gave her a big hug. "Go ahead. Say goodbye to the mistakes and walk towards your new life!"

Smiling, Emily hugged him back and replied, "Thank you, Dave. I appreciate you for always rooting for me. I mean it."
