“Dad, once I finish wrapping up and settling everything here, I’ll come home.”
On the other end of the line, Mr Stephens felt the lump in his throat become bigger. From her voice, he could tell that she had been crying.
“Okay, Lex. Your mother and I will be waiting for you at home. And Lex?”
“Yes, dad?”
“I’m sorry, Lex. I never should've abandoned you.”
Hanging up the phone, Emily covered her face in her palms. She was already an adult, but here was she, making her parents worry about her still, after she had caused them many heartaches. All because she had decided to follow Hunter.
Dave took the phone back and waited quietly while Emily continued to cry, more openly now that she had needed the call.
Five minutes later, Emily calmed down, took the tissue Dave had earlier offered, used it to wipe her tears and asked in a hoarse voice,
“Can I borrow the social media account of your cousin’s company?”
Star Entertainment Network (Sen) was owned by Dave's cousin, Francis Stern, and to promote his company's artists, Francis had lots of Social Media accounts and each had a large following. Thankfully, Francis was well acquainted with Emily and they had almost dated once.
Dave was silent for a moment, but when he saw that Emily wasn't going to volunteer more information, he took out his phone,
“Sure, let me call him.”
While Dave tried to reach out to Francis, Emily looked out of the windows and stared at the glass walls of Dell Wares Ltd.
What had made me think I could make Hunter fall in love with me? She wondered.
Three years later, and she had been unable to occupy a tiny area in his heart. Of course, it was impossible to capture the heart of a man that was already occupied by another woman.
Well, thank God she had realized her mistakes early on. And it was all going to be over soon.
But, after all the humiliation and pain she had suffered at the hands of the Thornes, Emily wasn't about to let things go like that. Hunter had asked her to apologize right? She was going to apologize. She was going to apologize so good he would never forget her apologies.
When Dave finished speaking and ended the call, he turned to Emily and found her staring out of the car window. It was getting late, so half of her face was shrouded in the dark. But even from the way she sat, he knew she was thinking about Hunter.
“B, how about we go out and celebrate today,” he suggested.
Emily turned to face him when he started the car,
“I'm sorry Dave. But I don't think I can go. I need to save my strength to carry out my plans.”
Dave laughed
“It seems like you're in a better mood today.”
“You know, Dave. When Katty died, I felt my whole world would come to an end. Why would I feel the same way about someone who doesn't even give a f*ck about me.”
Dave laughed again. Katty had been a cat. So if Emily had compared her grief over losing Hunter to being less than her pain over Katty’s death, then it meant she was really over him.
Dave had been worried that Emily would become depressed, but now, it seemed like he had underestimated her and her level of hatred for Hunter now.
That night, Dave went to bed when it was barely 10 o'clock. On the contrary, Emily was so angry with those netizens that she didn't sleep until three o'clock in the morning. As a result, she stayed in bed until nearly nine o'clock the next day.
When Dave walked out of his room with sleepy eyes, he noticed that Emily was already dressed up and had makeup on. She was picking up her bag, ready to leave the house.
Emily had a typical appearance of models. She had beautiful eyes and delicate facial features. She was not the kind of beauty who would turn heads but one that could make one never forget her.
That day, she was dressed simply but inexplicably sexy. She wore a dark brown off-shoulder sweater, a pair of dark blue trousers, and a pair of black oxford shoes. Her long hair was laid down, her shoulders were straight and her legs were long and slender. Her whole person was inexplicably a combination of tenderness and sexiness, which was very pleasing to the eye.
Dave was very satisfied with Emily's outfit. It looked a little solemn, yet also charming.
Very good!
"I'll be going out now."
Emily picked up the phone on the table and glanced at Dave.
Dave ran over and gave her a big hug. "Go ahead. Say goodbye to the mistakes and walk towards your new life!"
Smiling, Emily hugged him back and replied, "Thank you, Dave. I appreciate you for always rooting for me. I mean it."
When Emily Stephens arrived at the entrance of the Civil Affairs Bureau, it was exactly 8:55 am. There were already many people lining up at the window on the other side to get a marriage certificate. She was the only one on the side to get a divorce. It was not yet nine o'clock. Hunter had not come yet.As soon as it was nine o'clock, the window of the Civil Affairs Bureau for divorcing was opened on time.Emily looked at her phone impatiently. Hunter wasn't a person who liked to be late, but he was late that day.At exactly 9:15 when Emily became so sure he wouldn't be present and was about to go, she saw Hunter walking in from outside the door.As usual, he wore a dark blue suit and leather shoes and completed the look wit
When Emily returned to Dave's apartment, Dave was already wide awake. He stood behind the door and looked at her excitedly."How was it? Have you gotten a divorce? Can you show me the divorce certificate? Did the B"*stard come? "He had been looking forward to Emily's divorce from Hunter. Seeing him like this, Emily couldn't help but smile. She took out the divorce certificate from her bag and gave it to him."Chill guy, I'm divorced."When Dave saw the divorce certificate, he almost cried. "Finally! This is the best news I've heard since forever! It's so good! From now on, you're a single beautiful girl! Emily, do you think we should go have fun tonight?"Emily shook her head. "No, I ha
The news reached Hunter in no time. After watching the video clip of what had happened that night, he sat there with a cold expression on his face and did not say a word for a long time.An hour after the incident, after hours of searching, someone found Emily's Instagram account, with all the posts deleted, leaving only a message she had posted an hour ago: I'm sorry, I was wrong.Emily had apologized as he wished, but it was a little ironic and ridiculous now in view of all the things that had been revealed.Joseph stood in front of Hunter's desk. After he finished speaking, he kept his head down, scared to look at Hunter and see the anger that he must have been feeling. The atmosphere in the office was so oppressive that it was hard to breathe. Hunter's face was literally covered with frost, and his black eyes were as dark as the sky before a heavy rain."Get rid of the news within half an hour!"Joe froze for a moment. "But sir, we can't remove it.""What do you mean you can't rem
The love story of the second son of the Thorne family and his sister-in-law had been on the Internet for three days. Those who had laughed at Emily for being over-confident and wanting to get rich by marrying a wealthy man were now the ones defending her online.Mrs. Thorne had ordered Hunter to find Emily even if he had to dig three feet into the ground to get her to stop the scandal. However, Joseph had tried every means but still could not find where Emily had gone after leaving New York City.As for Emily's personal account on Instagram, except for the apology message she sent on the day she left, all the previous posts had been deleted, and no other posts had been sent after that. The picture along with the apology was a divorce certificate of Emily and Hunter. Every day, more and more people got on Emily's Ins
Hunter strode into his office, angry, tired and frustrated with the world and a particular woman. He hadn't slept throughout the night and now he was staring at his secretary's seat, empty where Emily should have been. He had thought she would crawl back to him as she always did. But three days after her disappearing stunt he still hadn't heard anything from her. He had been sure that she would be back, crying and begging for his forgiveness as she always did. But now, she was proving different and he did not like it, Emily was becoming someone he did not know. But How dare she? He thought angrily. After trying to kill Carla, killing his unborn nephew and almost injuring his mother, she thought she could go scout-free, doing anything she could and thinking she could get away with it. Or did she think he would come chasing after her just because she walked out of his house? Well, if that was her plan, he would prove her terribly wrong. No one offended the Thorne family and went scot
Three days earlier… “Atish!!!” Emily shook badly again. She had sneezed so hard she was sure that her cheek would start bleeding again. The cold, coupled with the fact that she was wearing a sleeveless dinner gown which was certainly not intended to be worn in Winter without a coat. Around Emily, the Thorne servants scurried about as they went about their separate business. Some were preparing the house for dinner, others were busy providing whatever the doctors asked for. Not even the head doctor had spared her a glance even though he had known her for the three years she had been part of the family. Still, he was never her doctor - - no one considered Emily good enough to warrant an expensive doctor. Emily had been a member of the Thorne family for three years, but she might as well be less regarded than Hunter’s sister's cat. She was nothing close to Carla, Hunter's sister-in-law. Unlike his hatred for Emily, Hunter loved Carla much more than anything in the world. An hour ag
Hunter's mother was pacing in the main hall when Emily more or less hobbled there, still aching from her wounds. In the room was Veronica, Hunter's sister who was already glaring at her, Hunter who was angrily looking anywhere except at her and Antoine Thorne, Hunter's mother herself, and the family's matriarch, Antoine Thorne. If Emily had any illusions that someone in the family was going to listen to her and save her, she knew how impossible it was now. She missed Hunter's father, if he had been there, she would have been rest assured that he would save her. But now... Antoine Thorne had never been one to smile, but the look on her face now was terrible enough to curdle the blood of a demon, never mind those demons never had blood. Her perfectly made-up face was drawn up in a snarl, that would have stopped Emily in her tracks if the slap hadn’t from Carla hadn't. “You evil bitch! How dare you try to kill my sister-in-law out of envy? Just because you can’t have a child doesn’t me
Dave was staring at Emily, “Are you okay, you look pale, is it Hunter? Did something happen to him? Why are you dressed like this in the cold? Bestie, please say something.” When Emily had walked out of the Thorne mansion with nothing, not even her phone, she hadn’t been thinking of anything except that she had to get away before she killed someone, which would most likely be herself. However, she was there, standing on the road, barefooted and cold with no phone or clothing or even her books. So, when she saw a teenage girl riding her bicycle, she had no choice but to beg to use the girl’s phone to call the only person in the world who she could trust, Dave. And now he was here, looking concernedly at her as though she wasn’t the same girl who had abandoned him for three years. How stupid was she to think that abandoning her life, her family and her friends would make her more acceptable to the Thornes? “Dave, I’m okay, I just needed someone and the only one that came to mind was
