Chapter 5: Sign the Damn Paper, please

Luckily, Emily had only been weak from the cold and the wounds. When Emily first opened her eyes in the hospital, the sterile white room felt more like a prison than a place of healing. Her body ached, but it was the weight on her heart that was truly unbearable. She lay there, motionless, listening to the hushed whispers of the nurses as they discussed her. The words cut deep, each one a reminder of the twisted narrative that had been spun against her. Her hand instinctively went to her stomach, feeling the bandages, and she knew that nothing would ever be the same.

"But how evil could she be to kill a little fetus because of envy?" one of the nurses asked, hissing contemptuously.

"You know how wicked poor people can be." The other nurse spat, not knowing that the person they were talking about had been listening to them. "Imagine her doing that to them after they took her in and made her who she is today. People can be so ungrateful."

Tears rushed into Emily's eyes. They didn’t know the truth, but then again, no one had ever cared to hear her side of the story. All the media had been doing for the past three years was spin tales of how she had seduced Hunter into getting married to her.

When Dave walked in, he knew that something was wrong. For one, Emily was staring at the ceiling and there was a cold look in her eyes which hadn't been there, even when they had been talking about the Thornes.

"Em, did something happen while I was gone? I went to get the house ready. Did the doctor say anything more?" He asked worriedly.

Emily laughed, "There's nothing wrong, except, I have to stress you again. You have to drive me to Dell, I'm getting a divorce." Her tone was calm but it was as if she was not serious about it.

"There’s a divorce lawyer we can get the documents from on our way,' he said, trying to keep the excitement out of his voice. 'She's being serious!' he thought to himself, struggling to contain his emotions. He had been waiting for this moment for so long, praying that Emily would finally see the truth. Tears of relief welled up in his eyes, but he quickly blinked them away. There was no time to waste. His best friend had finally gotten over it. From now on, those b*stards from the Thorne family could f*ck off!

"Sit here. I'll get you discharged right away! Get a divorce as soon as possible. Others can jump into the fire pit as they like! We're not going to do that anymore!"

"Yeah, whoever likes to jump into it can do it."

As Dave drove to the lawyer’s office, his mind raced. He had been thinking about Emily’s divorce for years, ever since he had seen the way Hunter treated her. From the very beginning, he had known that the marriage was a mistake, but no amount of persuasion had been able to sway Emily. She had been blinded by love, by hope, and it had taken three long years for her to finally see the truth. Now that she had, Dave was determined to help her every step of the way."

Dave had been thinking about Emily's divorce for three years. He wasn't optimistic about the marriage between Emily and Hunter from the very beginning.

Dave had tried to persuade her and failed. Hence he had been waiting for the day Emily would come to her senses. He almost thought that he couldn't wait any longer. Emily had put all her heart on Hunter it was as if she would die without him.

Now that Emily wanted to get a divorce, he didn't want her to waste any more time. He got her discharged from the hospital as fast as he could and then found the lawyer and got the divorce document.

"But Em the divorce terms are too easy for him and his family?"  Dave was looking at the terms of the divorce document. Emily hadn't asked for a dime from the Thornes.

Emily took the divorce agreement and glanced at it.

"Do I lack the money?"

Dave thought for a moment and realized that Emily had needed nothing from the Thornes except their love and respect.

Who was Emily?

She was the only daughter of the Stephens family in New York. She was a real daughter of a wealthy family. Only those bastards who didn't know anything thought that Emily was born into a poor family.

What a joke!

The two of them got in the car.

"Let's go to Dell Wares Corp."

At this time, Hunter should be at the company.

At the thought that Emily was going to get a divorce, Dave was very excited all the way. If it weren't for the jam in the daytime, she really wanted to step on the accelerator to go faster.

Half an hour later, the car stopped at the building of Dell Wares Corps.

Dave turned his head to look at her. "Remember, you should do it coolly and the movement should be fast."

Emily lowered her head and smiled. "Don't worry."

In the past three years, her patience and unwillingness had long been worn down.

Emily went straight into the building with the divorce agreement. The receptionist did not stop her, because she knew Emily as Hunter's secretary and nothing more. However, she couldn't find Hunter, so she dropped the document with his aide, Joe.

"Make sure he gets it when he comes in," she commanded, "and Joe, tell him to get a lawyer, he'll need one. I'll be back in an hour's time."

Back to the present day.....

In her high heels, Emily went straight to Hunter's office. She knocked on the door and before the person inside could answer, she had already pushed the door open and walked in.

"I'm sure you have received the documents I sent. Please sign the divorce agreement. I'll meet you at the entrance of the Civil Affairs Bureau at nine o'clock tomorrow morning."

Without waiting for his response, Emily turned and walked out of the room, her heart racing. But as she walked away, she felt a sense of peace, a sense of freedom that she had not felt in years.
