The next morning...
“Let's keep our fingers crossed," Evina breathed out in a jolly manner while holding Gabriel's hand. They were already dressed for work and were about to enter The Elysian Inc. Building. Because of their sexcapade last night, they were a little later than usual. But it seemed that both of them didn't mind as they gave a warm smile at each other while entering the dragon's lair.
Evina felt elated. She was still on cloud nine after experiencing the most heavenly experience she ever had in her entire life, giving herself to a man that she loves.
Her lovely doggie eyes gazed at the man beside her, wondering what she did right that made her feel so blessed. She completely forgot about the issue that they had. What she wanted that time was just to be with him. His presence alone made her heart feel alive.
She didn't care anymore what others might think of her. Or them. With her wide smile, she proudly walked inside the building. Now, s
“I have already negotiated with our investors,” The Chairman reassured the directors. He then proudly walked to the executive chair where Gabriel was previously sitting. The directors breathed out a sigh of relief as they also returned to their chairs.Gabriel pressed his lips as he gazed at the old version of himself suddenly appearing in the boardroom. He was not used to seeing him here. He had already given him the responsibility of taking care of The Elysian Inc.But he understood. This was the first time that this happened to the corporation. It will affect everything that the business holds on to. Like the directors, he also felt a wave of calmness that The Elysian Inc would not suffer greatly. However, he felt ashamed of himself. He could have done it ahead of him. He gazed at the symbol of determination and leadership embodied in the body of the Chairman in front of them all.The Chairman gazed at each one of them present in that meeti
Evina was gleefully finishing the tasks that she left yesterday when the Chairman's assistant approached her. Her eyebrows crumpled up in surprise as she knew that the Chairman does not visit The Elysian Inc. building often. Still, she obliged and immediately came with her. She knows why the whole building was in an uproar as she investigated on The Elysian’s Inc’s internal website. It was also the talk of the day in the chat rooms. She learned that the stocks of The Elysian Inc’s stocks drop drastically just as of today. “No wonder the Chairman was here today,” Evina thought while she clamped her lips. “But why would he call me to the board meeting? Am I involved with this?” Evina contemplated. “Was this about her having a relationship with its CEO, Gabriel Yang?” She hoped not, as she crossed her fingers. They were about to enter the building. But Gabriel, with his angry demeanor, stopped her from her tracks. “You will not get inside,” he ordered her and dr
Gabriel didn’t know how he would react to Evina’s outburst. He knew she was just protecting him. But she was way out of line. His cautious eyes peeked at the directors in the boardroom. And they were all looking at Evina in aghast horror. Gabriel closed his eyes and shook his head. He knew things would get worse.Though he perfectly understood her, being undermined and on the hot seat right now, he was also bothered that his father was being troubled as well. He believed that no matter what they have against him, he was still the Chairman and worthy of their respect and honor. No one could dare defy him and his standards. Not even him.“Enough of this!” The Chairman yelled as he stood up. His green emerald eyes were blazing fire as he glared at Evina. “I would not hear any more remarks from you. You have only proven to us that you are indeed the daughter of William Go, you rebellious woman. From now on, you are fired!”
Evina didn’t know how she got to the park from the Elysian Inc Building with her heart being torn to pieces. She knew how Gabriel could have been affected deeply, knowing about his past and all. She would have reappeared and helped him decide to choose his father.“Still, this is so painful,” Evina clutched on her chest as she inhaled a lungful of air. Her knees finally gave way, making her slump at the chair, which was at a picnic table. She wanted to cry, but she didn’t know why tears were not coming out of her tear ducts.“Come on,” She laughed pitifully as she poked on her eyelids, trying to make light of the situation. As she did so, raindrops started to fall, making the people in the park run for cover. However, Evina remained in her seat, mindless of the dark clouds forming above her. “Don’t you dare do this to me!” She yelled at the sky, pointing at the clouds like a crazed woman. “The last time
“Would I leave the country with Maria?” Evina pondered. She couldn’t say yes at once. Leaving the country means she would be giving up on Gabriel for good. It was not just her concern. But also, she was bothered about what happened to Maria.Evina decided to come with her father to his residence, which was a few miles away from the park. He told her that Maria was staying with her as of that moment. Evina was curious as she was just normally living in her former house, where she was currently staying, just a fortnight ago.Even with her situation, she was still concerned about her older sister. Between the two of them, she was more the long-suffering one. She was not the type of person who would run away, unlike her.“I know this was a bit shaggier than our previous house. Please bear the inconvenience. We would leave here eventually,” Her father apologized as they came down from the taxi.Indeed, it was a small house, situat
“Answer the phone, Evina,” Gabriel grunted as he paced back and forth. He was already in front of Evina’s house. After the director’s meeting, he quickly called her, so he could talk to her personally. However, Evina wasn’t answering her phone.Fretful and perturbed, he quickly went out of The Elysian Inc. building and searched for her. But he couldn’t find her. With the negative turn of events against her, he was apprehensive about what could have happened to her. He wanted to bang his head to the nearest wall for not following her at once.“There was no one inside that house,” An old lady interrupted her thoughts. She had a bag of groceries in her hands and was about to go into her residence, which was just adjacent to the house where Evina was staying. He knew about it since he has driven her there a lot of times. But the old lady’s question bothered him. “What do you mean there was no one inside her
“We’re here, boss,” Paul informed Gabriel as he stopped at a house in an exclusive village outside the metropolis. He also opened his window and tried to peek at the people inside. He drew in a deep breath as if something was also troubling him, that the answer lies inside that house.Meanwhile, Gabriel has his own formulation that he was trying to solve in his mind. He wanted to talk to Evina. But he didn’t want to meet her father at the same time. He didn’t know how he could be nice to him when he wanted to win Evina back. Will he just do this business-mindedly, like how he used to deal with his opponents by using a fake mask in front of them? Gabriel’s jaw clenched as he knew that he would have a hard time with this one. He was emotionally connected in this matter, unlike his business transactions, where he could set aside his personal feelings.Still, he decided to push through with his plan. He could not let Evina out of
Warning: This chapter has a steamy scene. Please don't read if you're underage or if you're uncomfortable. :)Evina wanted to talk to Gabriel. But Maria has a point. There is no way they could be together after everything that happened. They would just hurt each other by insisting on their ridiculous love affair.Evina already agreed to go with Maria outside the country. With that, she believed she would have a clearer head, and she could go back to her plans of establishing her own business and her future. However, she couldn’t help but long for Gabriel and feel sympathetic with him. She has been seeing his car every night in front of their house. It seemed like he would go there immediately after work and wait for a chance for them to talk things out.Still, she decided to be firm on standing up on her ground. She doesn’t want him to be torn between her and his father. Or between her and his company that he has built his entire life.
“All right, don’t pick us. It’s your loss, not ours!" Evina gritted her teeth as she marched out of the Tech Studios parking lot.She has worked on this project for months. But the CEO of Tech Studios chose another company as their business partner. As far as she knows, the owner of that firm uses bribes to gain an edge above other tech firms. The sun outside was so scorching hot that one could fry an egg just by cracking it in the ground. But Evina didn't mind as she tramped on it."I hope all you greedy executives go bankrupt. Or better yet, you should rot in jail for the rest of your life!" she screamed at the top of her lungs before opening the door of her car with full force.*Screech!*
Gabriel’s eyes blinked rapidly as he gazed at his bride. His heart almost stopped beating. She looked exquisitely lovely in her dazzling white mermaid cut wedding gown, designed with pearls and choice gemstones. Her flaming red hair was neatly tucked under her veil.“You’re one lucky man, sir,” Paul whispered in his ear, making him nod in agreement. His eyes twinkled with an inner glow.He put his arms behind his back as he awaited his queen to come walking towards him in front of the aisle. As he did so, he drew in a deep breath. He could not imagine himself being wedded, and being much in love with his bride, like this. All his life he has dedicated himself to the company and for him, having a girlfriend, much so a wife, is an additional responsibility. That’s before he met Evina, the woman who made his heart live again. Now she was slowly walking towards where she was. Every step made his heart jump wi
After three months...Evina clutched her waist as she felt fluttery butterflies circling inside it. She bit her lips to prevent them from trembling. She didn’t know that this event would be this nerve-wracking. She thought that since they’ve been together through hoops, this wouldn’t be a stressful event anymore.“Relax, you’re ruining your makeup,” Maria scolded her as she checked her reflection in the mirror.‘Simon, remove your coat. That cake might spill on it. William felt like he had slept for a long time. His body was sore and he felt a sharp pain in his stomach. His face grimaced as he tried to recall what happened. He remembered going to Chairman Yang even with a gunshot wound. He didn’t want to fail him again.Fortunately, he reached there on time. But he couldn’t recall what happened after that. Everything was already blurred up.While he was contemplating the situation, he heard voices talking around him.“You should’ve bought grapes. You know, Dad doesn’t like peaches.”“There are no grapes in the store. Besides, I remember him eating this before.”“He just ate it because you forced him to. Don’t you remember?”He opened his eyes, so he could see them clearly. It’s Maria and Evina, quarreling over a basket of fruits. He lifted his hand. But as he did so, he noticed that there was an IV set attached
Evina didn’t know how she made it back to the Chairman. Her lids were already swollen from crying. She was about to go to the Chapel of the hospital and pray all night for God’s extension of life for her father. But she wanted to say goodbye to the Chairman first, out of respect.“It seems that you’re finally reconciled with the Chairman, Dad. After twenty long years. And you still have a lot of time to spend your years together,” she mumbled to herself.“You can drink up all night, share your family stories under the night sky. Then we, your children, would scold you both and make you come to bed like you used to do to us when we were young,” Evina rattled on while laughing at her imagination like a crazy woman as she dragged her feet back to where she left the Chairman. To her surprise, she didn’t just see the Chairman with his guards. There were three other people with him.“Evina,” Mar
Feeling a little great, Evina returned to the ICU to check on her father’s state. Her face had a little radiance to it, unlike her appearance when she first came to the hospital. She had just donated blood to her devastated father. She has also encountered a man whom she didn’t know would help them. However, she couldn’t help but worry about her father. His state was still uncertain. She could only cry out to God for a miracle. “He still hasn’t met his grandchildren from me yet,” she heaved out a long sigh as she bit her lips. Her tired and aching feet dragged until she reached the ICU. To her surprise, she saw the Chairman still, sitting in one of the chairs. It was as if he was waiting for the door to open up, so he would be updated on her father’s status. Evina stopped for a moment and drew in a deep breath as she watched the Chairman. He looked like he was a good friend who was deeply concerned about his friend’s condition.
Evina’s pulse quickened as her eyes beheld him. It seemed that her blood rushed to every part of her muscles, making her blood pressure rise up at that moment. She recalled the incident that happened just a few hours ago. His brother attacked Gabriel and her in the parking lot. And he was also the reason why his father was on death’s bed right now.Evina couldn’t control herself. She rushed forward and almost slapped his face. If it weren’t for the nurses who stopped her, she must have hit him hard.“You and your shameless family. Why are you even here?” She couldn’t help but blurt out. He seemed to be working out something with the nurses when they entered the room.Evina was about to donate her blood to her father when she saw Julio, the least of all the people that she expected to see.“Hello again, Miss Chen. Don’t you want to know who saved your father’s life?” His l
Evina’s heart pumped in a frenzy as she traversed the traffic to the hospital where her father was admitted. She still hasn’t moved on from the chaotic scene at the parking lot. To be honest, she didn’t want to leave Gabriel behind. Even with his position, he could still go to jail. The son of Chairman Ming was badly beaten by him. She has already put him in prison. Fortunately for her, the women that he abused spoke up. And there were also other people who helped them, including Gabriel’s connection. But she also has an idea that with his influence, he could easily get out and go on a rampage, if he didn’t serve his penance. She just wasn’t aware that he would attempt to murder her, her father, and Gabriel. Still, there was a much-pressing issue, greater than all these. And that’s the life and death situation of her father. She could have easily gone there if it wasn’t for Julian’s antics. Fortunately, the taxi came to
