RAFAEL

“The news didn’t come from us,” Jacob insisted, referring to the recent news, mentioning the figure of my initial ten billion offer, which had already been raised to eighteen. “We were surprised as well. But we will investigate. I assure you that.”

“Please. We can’t always trust the people around us, Mr. Estrella, but I’m not accusing anyone. We just need to be more watchful,” I said frankly. My competitors would try to do anything to cripple me.

“But Rafael, is Ms. Gibson alright? She has been gone for more than several minutes.” Emilio looked at his wife.

“She seems very much lively to me,” Jocelyn said, facing me as well. “I like her, Mr. Sebastian. Very sensible girl and wise. Thank you for taking her here. It’s not very often I meet someone I can talk to.”

“Really? What did you talk about?” Emilio queried curiously.

She patted her husband’s knee, chuckling. “Something that boys shouldn’t know.”

I checked my wristwatch. It had been ten minutes since Savi went out. “I’

SAVANNAHWe used the executive elevator that led straight to the twenty-fourth floor. I’d only been there once when Wesley and I went around the management floors. I didn’t see the CEO’s office because Rafael Sebastian wasn’t in and didn’t normally meet with the new employees. He gave all that hiring process and authority to managers and HR.I struggled to maintain my breath as the car went up. I became entirely aware of Rafe’s strong presence in the tight space around me. I wasn’t claustrophobic, but this should hint at what people felt experiencing it. My cheeks turned heated, so I gazed down at the floor. We were quiet. There weren’t any employees present in the building anymore at this hour. This was probably the longest elevator ride I’d ever had.The doors opened, but to my surprise, Rafe took my hand, clasping it with his warm fingers. The surge of electricity rushed through my veins, reaching my heart to cause a rapid rhythm. He led me out to the elevator and marched straight

SAVANNAH“This is still unbelievable and unrealistic,” I said. I’d learned my lesson from my failed marriage. It wasn’t a game or something you’d just throw away when you grew tired. At least on my part.“You married for love, but where did it take you? Feelings fade, Savi. When it does, every foundation you build will be broken. Love is overrated if you ask me. I’m sure you understand that.”“Have you considered what your family would say if they found out you’re dating some random woman?” I argued because he couldn’t see my point. He was Rafael Sebastian. A billionaire bachelor, soon to be king of an empire and head of a family with an absolute but ludicrous tradition.I was just Savannah Gibson, an ordinary woman in New York dreaming of having children and living a contented life with my family. Was that so hard to find? If Edward couldn’t give that to me, someone out there might… someone less complicated and willing to commit.“I chose you because you’re different from anyone I’ve

SAVANNAHThe kiss started light, learning the taste, the wet and warm feeling, and how far the sweet impulse could go. Rafael’s hand curved across my cheek and leisurely passed my jaw before moving to the back of my neck. As his mouth worshiped mine, he started stroking my back, my waist, squeezing gently, persuading me to relax. Our mouths gilded together, calculating and smoothing. After a moment, his tongue slowly emerged, enticing me to respond. His mint breath and the taste of champagne embraced my senses. He consumed me. I couldn’t decide whether I’d let him in or mirror his movements. He sucked my tongue into him, sliding and circling. I opened up, breathing in between our mouths and releasing the rigidness in my chest. A tight ball of desire rolled around in my stomach. Rafael nipped my lips between his mouths, pulling and teasing. As I relaxed beneath his care, he grew bolder. His tongue rolled over my bottom lip, and leisurely our tongues

RAFAELThe atmosphere in my penthouse had never felt more defeating—not when I’d already longed to hear Savannah talk that I wouldn’t mind if she did all night. She was soft-spoken and curious. Any woman I knew would jump immediately at the opportunity, but Savannah wouldn’t. She wasn’t that type, which I find more challenging.I had two other candidates on my list.Jessica, the daughter of the former Governor Grand, with whom I had a one-night stand. I met Jessica on occasion because of our common friends. She was practical and single, and her parents owned a recording label in Los Angeles. Jessica was submissive. She even offered me to engage in a dominant-submissive lifestyle once (which wasn’t my thing), so I knew she wouldn’t mind acting on my terms—the same terms I disclosed to Savannah. And then there was Georgia King. A failed businesswoman in the trade industry. She was easy-going, discreet, and tactical, but broke because her dead husband mismanaged her business. She still h

SAVANNAHEdward came out moments after I cleaned up. He carried a horrible stench that blew from the bathroom as he staggered out. He was wearing nothing but my baby pink underwear that didn’t help cover his cock.“You reek of alcohol!” I threw an oversized shirt and pants at him. “Wear that! You’re disgusting.”He caught them and put them on. They could keep them, throw them, or burn them; I didn’t care.I’d been in a situation like this when he came home drunk once. He wasn’t used to drinking much, but that night had been rough. He had a fight with Brett for defending me from an accidental mistake at work. It was an overlap between my duties with Brett and Amara. And just like tonight, our bedroom was turned upside down, and his puke was all over the bathroom floor. I wasn’t sure what his problem was now, when I should’ve been the one acting this way.“Why are you doing this to me? Why are you even here?”“My head is breaking, Savi. Can we talk about this tomorrow and just sleep qui

  • The CEO's Proposition   Chapter 27

SAVANNAH The next morning, Edward was still at home—awake and preparing breakfast with my brother. I’d seen this scene before. It was when our lives seemed perfect. Well, not anymore. I didn’t know what Edward said to Michael and why my brother let him in last night, but I knew it wasn’t good. “Savi, take a seat,” Michael instructed. I didn’t have the strength to argue with Edward this morning, so I obliged. My stupid husband put a cup of coffee in front of me. I sighed. It was such a waste to throw a good coffee in the morning, so I accepted it. I sipped a taste. “Won’t you be late for work?” Michael asked me as he pulled a chair and sat. “No, my time is, uh, flexible.” “Of course it is,” Edward commented. He stuck a piece of bacon in his mouth. I shot him a glare. “Don’t start with me, Ed. Just because Michael let you in doesn’t mean we’re still family.” “I let him in because he was shouting outside. I don’t want to disturb the neighbors. What is it anyway, Sav?” Michael aske

  • The CEO's Proposition   Chapter 28

SAVANNAH My day was busy walking here and there, meeting the designers, organizing advertising deliverables, and catching schedules. The work wasn’t so different from my job at New Star Media, but I was in a more flexible environment where everyone was a team player. In my preoccupied mind, I thought about Rafael, wondering about his plan for us and what Michael had told me this morning. But it was more on Rafael and our intimate moment in his office last night. We were both out of control as we kissed hard and fast as if we were in a race. I was hyper-aware of my environment, the building, the air, knowing he was only one floor above our department. Did he think about me as much as I’d thought about him? I inhaled sharply as I tried to shove off the images of his beautiful face and seductive voice in my head. I was about to enter his brother’s office. I knocked on the door and heard Carter’s ‘come in.’ As I headed in, I heard the whispers of Carter to the person he was talking to

SAVANNAH“You actually came!” Riley squeezed me in her arms as soon as I showed up in front of her restaurant. She still had the black apron wrapped around her waist. I hugged her back, still wondering how chefs prevented themselves from smelling like the food they were cooking daily. She still smelled of her shampoo.Riley was the head chef of her own restaurant because she loved being hands-on. The Allen House was a two-story contemporary casual dining restaurant with a laid-back atmosphere yet offering extensive menus. They also served alcohol, entrées, and appetizers.Riley and Wes’ family were well-off. They could afford to give her this restaurant as a gift after graduating from college with honors. It was thanks to her that I got to eat first-rate meals.“You practically forced me to come,” I kidded.“Sorry.” She laughed but then shifted her attention to my date entering the door. “Hello, Rafael. We met once but haven’t properly introduced ourselves.” Riley reached out a hand t

SAVANNAH Two years later... I expected to see this day but didn’t expect to feel melancholy. Carter was packing his stuff in a big blue box, like someone who got fired from his job. But his expression was too joyful for someone leaving his post. I was happy for him at the same time. We’d worked together for a couple of years now, and we were so productive. Seeing him step down as CMO would make a drastic change for the office and the entire management. Well, he was following his dreams. He was leaving the entertainment world for a new career journey. He had finally built the perfumery company that he had wanted all along. As for me, I would be the new CMO and Rafe’s partner in life. Yep, that was the proper name for it. “Take care of my office, will you?” Carter said as he transferred his pile of old binders to a box. “You know what to do with these?” “Yes, when I needed ideas from our previous work. Visit us, okay?” He chuckled. “Come on, Savi. We’ve been practically a family e

SAVANNAH“A toast. For all of us!” Rafe lifted his champagne glass as we gathered after the program. The Estrellas and some familiar faces in the company had also joined us at our table. With that, everyone raised their glasses and then drank their champagne.“Thank you, darling.” Rachel put her glass down and clasped her hands. “You see, everyone. I’ve always asked myself whether this time will come, and I’ll be present to witness it.”Everyone turned silent.“But here I am, seeing all of you, celebrating our success. I can’t ask for anything more.” Her gaze stopped at Michael, and she smiled. “I’ve never felt so happy again until this moment. And to my husband and children. Thank you for making this possible, and congratulations to us all.”Everyone at the round table applauded and sipped on their drinks again.“Congratulations to the additional family member, too,” a sophisticated-looking woman in a blue gown commented. She seemed about Rachel’s age.“Oh, Anya is giving birth six m

SAVANNAHThree weeks later…After convincing Michael to officially meet the Sebastians, he hardly had any sleep. I could tell by the dark shades underneath his eyes and how he always asked me what to say to them. He looked nervous but was still very handsome, just like his brother. They were fraternal twins, but was it ironic that I was seeing a resemblance now?Someone knocked on the door, and then Rafe let himself in. “Is everyone ready?”Last week, I moved into his penthouse, which I basically consider my personal space now. We hadn’t told anyone about our engagement since we wanted his parents to meet Michael first and then our announcement. It should be private. He also insisted I invite Michael here yesterday so they could talk.In addition, Michael didn’t know there was a huge celebration in the company tonight. It was the sixtieth founding anniversary of Sebastian Entertainment Group and Rafe’s appointment as the new chairman. Michael had changed his ties many times now in fr

RAFAEL“A week after Mikhail went missing, and the news spread to the school,” I began the story I never told anyone. It tortured me to share this part of my life with someone, but not this me. Surprisingly, I felt fine. My tranquility was her doing.Savannah was now leaning on my chest with my arm on her shoulders on the bed. I loved smelling her vanilla-scented hair. We fucked and made love in the last three hours, but I still couldn’t get enough. I needed more of her.“The kids watched, the teachers felt sorry, and that was when Brett’s friends came to me. They told me what happened at the amusement park. We came back every day. Dad hired people to find him, but he was gone. He didn’t speak to me for a while.”“So you blame yourself because you thought he blamed you. Your dad mentioned something about it,” she said. That was probably when they spoke at the beach. “Why do you think he blamed you?”“I brought him there after school. Mikhail didn’t speak, but he understood me. I asked

RAFAELI couldn’t imagine their faces when I told them Mikhail was alive. Dad had lost hope. My mother still mourned in her sleep. Julian was young when Mikhail went missing, so he couldn’t remember much. My twin was a lost boy who never found his way back home. It had been three decades.I thought it was impossible. I thought when Brett showed me the papers, he was messing with me again, trying to destroy the sanity left in me. But when I saw Michael Gibson, the man who raised the only woman that brought me back to life, when he told me how he got lost before I could say anything, I knew it was him. It was a small world, but it took us time to find each other. It was her. Savannah brought him back to me.Mikhail wasn’t as he was twenty-nine years ago. I worried because of his speech disability, the world would be cruel to him, but he grew up as a man better than I’d become. He stood on his own and became a self-made man. He loved Savannah and protected her. I should be ashamed.I hur

  • The CEO's Proposition   Chapter 57

SAVANNAHMichael and the girls were in the living room when Rafe left a few moments ago. They were staring at me with a googly as if waiting for me to say something. I wondered if my brother had told them anything. In addition, it was still strange to see Sofia sitting in our living room.I sat on the sofa across from them.“What now?” Riley said.I looked at my brother. “Do you mind me telling them?”Michael tensed up, folding his arms across his chest. “I supposed they already know, so there’s no point asking.”“Sorry,” I murmured.I started explaining from the beginning—about how Michael told me he was still looking for his family. My friends knew my brother was adopted, but we didn’t speak about it because it seemed unnatural. Michael was already there when I was growing up. My brother even surprisingly answered Riley’s questions.“Please, don’t tell anyone about this yet. Even with your parents, Sofia,” I pleaded.“Of course. I understand,” she said softly.

  • The CEO's Proposition   Chapter 56

SAVANNAHMy whole body shivered. Rafe’s question only meant that they were talking about Michael. Gradually, I understood what was happening. There were things Rafael didn’t tell me. Things about him he couldn’t entrust others yet, especially to someone like me whom he had just met. That was human nature, so I understood and was still waiting. But things between the two of us kept getting deeper. It wasn’t just any person who’d accidentally become a part of his life.Rafe had a sibling (a twin) he’d lost many years ago, and it was my very own brother. The same person who raised me, the same person who carried and fed me as a child. It wasn’t just about his family—it was mine too.Rafe and I’s connection to the Reeds was already problematic. I wasn’t sure what to believe because the coincidence was too bewildering; it almost seemed impossible.Unable to answer or move, Rafe snatched my hand and dragged me to his car with brute force. My wrist was hurting, but the noise in my mind from

SAVANNAHThe past few weeks have been busy in the office. I missed Rafe terribly despite my anger at what happened in Long Island. His absence had me overthinking things about him and Erin—things he refused to tell me.I hadn’t heard from Rafe since his last message and only followed him on the news. He was in many meetings and conferences, but Billy and Carter assured me everything was going fine. They didn’t tell me when they were returning. I’d just take what I could get and let him explain when he returned. But today, I stood before his brother because I needed to leave early. Brett was picking me up to take me to Brooklyn, eagerly looking forward and hoping I’d meet Michael’s family. However, Carter had to bring another piece of news.“Rafe’s returning today.”A pool of emotions lifted up my heart. Excitement? Restlessness? I wasn’t sure. “He is? What time?”“Not sure, but he has probably left the office now.”I heaved an exhale. “Thanks for giving me an update every now and then

SAVANNAHI spent the next hour talking to Michael about Rafe. He’d love a bit of honesty, although I kept some privacy for myself. He listened, but he was frantic. My brother wasn’t the type to show it all throughout.“Savannah, that is not okay to leave a girlfriend alone at god knows where for any reason,” he pressed.“I know, but I don’t want to make an issue about it before hearing his explanation.”He shook his head. “You’re too kind.”“Well, I was raised this way.”He arched his eyebrow. “So it’s my fault.”“No! Because you’re too kind to me.” I held his hand. “Michael, we’re still new. He’s still figuring things out because the last time he had a relationship was over a decade ago.”“And you believed him?”“Yes. Why would a man lie about his relationship? As far as I know, men like to brag about it.”“Well… You’re not wrong, although I’m not the type,” he defended. “But please know that if he ever hurt you, he’ll have to face me.”I gave him a smile. “Thank you, but I’ll figure
