I stood next to my dad, and Sterling as I watched the casket get lower into the hole. Sterling’s parents and other people were wailing but I did not make a sound. I had hope in my heart again. And I knew that no amount of crying or sobbing was going to bring the love of my life back. So as I watched the casket get lower and lower into the hole, a small sad smile clung to my lips. I was going to vindicate Samuel, nothing was going to stop me from doing that. My mom was going to pay for what she did. It would be over for her, and she would never in her life, try what she did to Samuel, to anybody again. “You know, it’s okay to cry, right?” Sterling said to me. “I know, I know.” I nodded slowly. “And you should take your advice too.” I locked eyes with him. There was it again, the very intense emotion that was once in his eyes. It was there for a few seconds and then faded away when he blinked a couple of times. He smiled. “Yeah, but I can’t. It…just feels like I can’t. My mind won’
I walked into the bedroom with a bowl of soup in my hand. I closed the door once I was in and approached the bed that Sterling was lying on. “What were you thinking?” I asked him as I stared at the icepack that he had on the right side of his face. “I wanted to be hit.” He shrugged as if that was an answer that made sense. I scoffed lightly and then grabbed a small table. I got it closer to the bed and placed the bowl of soup on it. I then sat next to him on the bed. “And why would you want that? It doesn’t make any sense.”He adjusted himself on the bed and chuckled lightly. “You won’t understand.” He kept the icepack to his face. I could see that he was in some pain; he was wincing almost every time that he adjusted the ice pack. “Try me.” i was not going to give up that easily. “I definitely need an explanation for your behavior, because what the heck? You were disrespecting me and literally baiting my dad into hitting you.” He let out a sigh and blinked rapidly for a few secon
I walked into the hotel suite and headed for the living room area. Luxury was too little to describe how the suite was. I sat on the couch and I felt a wave of sadness and anger. I was reminded of the last time that I was here. The last time that I was in this suite, sitting on the exact couch, was when my mom had drunk so much vodka but kept her composure anyway. It was when she offered me some and threatened to kill Samuel. Well, we were back, but now Samuel was actually dead and I was here to know the truth. I mean, I already knew it, but I wanted her to say it. I wanted her to confess to it. “I don’t suppose you have a recorder on you, huh?” She sat on the couch opposite me. Again, she brought with her a bottle of vodka. It looked newly bought. I scoffed. “I’m not here to record you. I just want you to tell the truth. I want you to admit to what you did to Samuel.” She stared at the bottle of vodka and then glanced at the two empty glasses that she brought with it before
The car came to a stop in the compound and it was almost midnight; only a few minutes. My dad turned off the engine and I opened my side of the car but before I could get down, he stopped me. “Hey, Heather. Be careful how you handle this, okay?” Concern and worry filled his eyes, leaking into his voice. I nodded and flashed him a comforting smile. “I will. I will, dad.” I then proceeded to get out of the car. I left my dad and headed straight into the house. My eyes landed on Sterling the moment I walked into the huge house. He had no shirt on and had pajama pants on. The cut on his face was evident and just looking at it made me squirm a bit. “Hey, you’re back.” He chuckled and walked towards me. “How did it go?” “Um…it went well,” I replied as I walked towards the bedroom. “Wait, really?” He followed me closely. “There was no yelling? Nothing?” “Well…my mom confessed.” I stopped when I reached the bedroom door. “She finally told the truth. She had Samuel killed because she di
After breakfast, my dad and I left the main house and went to the back of the compound. There was another building there. That building was for the workers. It was huge. I believe that there were rooms for sleeping and a lot of offices too. The office we were heading to was the one that was responsible for the security cameras and footage. “Do you know where we’re going?” My dad asked me when we entered the building. “Um, not really sure but I do know that we have to find the office that deals with the security cameras,” I replied. “And how do you propose we find that?” “By asking.” I flashed him a small smile. I walked to the reception desk and the lady behind it looked up from her computer and smiled at me politely. “Mrs. Williams, how may I help you today?” Her voice was cheery. “Could you please tell me where’s the office that deals with the security cameras? I’m doing some research and I have a few questions for the department,” I informed her in a smooth tone. “Oh,” She r
I picked up the thumb drive and used my breath to blow off the dust from the shattered vase off it. My heart was beating hard and my nerves were going crazy. It was like all time had stopped.I stood to my feet and sniffled as a small smile corrupted my lips. This could be it. This could be the thumb drive that could change everything for the better. It could be the instrument that could vindicate Samuel and free my mom. I let out a small laugh and then headed out of the room hurriedly. “Dad?” I called out to him as I headed down the hallway toward the stairs. “Dad?!” I called out loudly. When I reached the bottom of the stairs, I ran into him. “Is something wrong? I heard you call for me?” He asked as worry filled his eyes. “I found…I found it, dad.” I chuckled happily as I showed the thumb drive to him. “Oh, my gosh.” He stared at it as he laughed cheerily. “Are you sure it’s it?” “What else could it be?” I walked past him and began to lead him to the living room. “It has to be
He doubled back and let out a very nervous chuckle. “What are you talking about?” He reached for the laptop and I made no attempt to stop him. I allowed him to take and soon enough, he gaped when he realized that it was the original footage. “So…how does it feel to kill your own flesh and blood?” I stood to my feet as I asked him. “Wait, I have a better question. How does it feel to lie to my face and pretend to be there for me when in fact, you were the cause and root of my very pain?” “Where did you get this?” He asked me as he closed the lid of the laptop. “Cameron?” I scoffed as I folded and paced around the living room for something to use to defend myself if I had to. When I saw a vase, I walked right next to it and stood there. If anything, I could break it and use one of the shards to defend myself. “Cameron didn’t do anything. It was all me, darling.” My tone was venomous. “Remember the night I came from my mom? Yeah, she told me exactly how that day went down. She arrive
I was exhausted and drained. I had been locked up in one of the guest rooms and had been banging on the door and crying for help for almost three hours. I don’t think I had any more strength or willpower. I sniffled and sat down behind it on the floor. My throat hurt from yelling and crying so much. And the growing headache that I had only seemed to make things worse. My arms had red bruises on them from when I was being held roughly by Sterling. They had a burning sensation but that was not what I was worried or concerned about right now. I also did not have my phone, it was taken away from me, along with anything in the room that I could use to contact the outside world. So now, my only hope was for my dad. I was praying that he would come through for me. It irked me that he was taking so long. All he had to do was get a gun. He was a very successful businessman, why would he take forever to acquire a weapon? Unless…he wanted to get it the legal way. Crap, of course, my dad wou
