JESSICA'S POV.
With a large well-practiced smile on my face, I rang the fancy doorbell to Mr Snider's house, giving my appearance another glance. Was this business-casual enough? I'd gone to the mall yesterday—where I'd encountered a jerk—to buy some clothes, but I'd only been able to afford what I'm wearing right now which was a black bell-sleeved tight dress that ended appropriately at my knees. I'd judged it by looking though, it was tighter than it looked in the store and I was always to intimidated to try on a dress at a store so I just paid for it and ran to my apartment to try it. Turns out I was wrong. The door swung open and a red haired lady stood at it with a smile on her face. "Housekeeper?" She asked.I nodded quickly. "Yes that's me. I'm ugh ... here for the interview." I take a peak inside the house and almost gasped. The house looked as amazing as I'd dreamt it to be.The lady followed my gaze and let out a chuckle. "I can see you like the house. Come on in and I'll show you around. I'm Clara by the way, the one who called earlier."I smiled, following her into the massive house. The interior screamed ‘art’ and I loved it. At the orphanage I used to love reading Mrs Gina's home magazines and dreamt countless times of stepping my foot into a house like that, but I never had expected to walk into a real life one.Clara offered me a seat on the soft sofa and I took a seat, still ogling the place. "So are you ready for my questions?"I frowned. "What of Mr Snider? I thought he'd be the one doing the interview not you."She sighed and pulled back her wild red hair. "He should be here soon. Truth be told, he just told me to entertain you until he arrives."I resisted the urge to make a snide comment. He wanted me to be early but he couldn't bother to do the same. I busied myself by looking at the arty interior of the place.I hadn't noticed Clara had gone to get refreshments until she came back with a tray filled with biscuits. "Hope you like biscuits? There's nothing else here, apparently your future boss hasn't gone grocery shopping for a while."I grinned. I liked Clara, she was the first person to treat me like a human being and not a poor rat. It was nice. "How's your boss like though? Is he the very bossy type or super chill?"She snorted. "I don't know. Some days he is a bossy asshole boss who barks angrily at you for making simple mistakes and some days he's just this nice boss who's super chill and friendly.""So he is bipolar?" I joked, and she laughed. It was nice to make someone laugh. People didn't really find me funny, they always found me pityfull or unappealing. It felt really different."You can say that," she stared at nowhere, like she were picturing him in her head. "You might like him. He's mostly man who was given a company he doesn't know how to run than he is a bossy boss."I nodded. So Mr Snider isn't the bossy boss type. That was great for me. Really great, I didn't have to worry about having another Mrs Smith in my life. Those were the worst times.Clara and I chatted about lots of things for a long while until the doorbell rang, bringing us back to reality. She went to the door and talked to whoever rang it for a while before she came back with a tall figure trailing behind her. When this person locked eyes with me I'm sure my eyebrows went to my hairline. Holy shit. It was the jerk I'd bumped into the other day, and by the look he was giving me, he was shocked as well."You?" He pointed a large index finger at me before dumping his briefcase on the couch. "The weird girl from then. What the hell are you doing here?"I bit the insides of my cheek. I didn't need a socerer to tell me he was the Mr Snider or his son or something, but I'd genuinely thought Mr Snider would be a full man—probably forty or grandpa age—but to my surprise he was a man. A good looking man."Are you my soon to be boss?" I smiled awkwardly, glancing at Clara for help but she just looked confused."Oh no I'm not," he frowned. "Wait, you're supposed to be my maid now? Schumann was right, this is some movie type of shit."Clara looked between the both of us perplexed. "You two already met? I'm guessing it was bad right?"I nodded and she face palmed. "So you don't wanna interview her anymore because of it, sir?"Mr Snider scoffed. "I don't even want her in my house. What interview are we talking about? There's no way she'll be my housekeeper."Oh God, no. Just when I'd thought my problems would finally be over, I had to bump into my employer and ruin my reputation even before the interview. How the hell would I pay my mountain of bills now? I may never get a job as good as this ever again. I needed to do something quick.I pleaded with Clara to help me with her eyes, but she just threw her hands up like she had no say in this. Well, desperate times called for desperate moments. I started to walk towards Mr Snider, but then the worst thing happened. My leg got caught on an object on the floor and I barrelled forward into him, with my hands landing embarrassingly on his manly bits. Oh shit. Our gazes collided and he pushed me backwards so quickly, I fell to the ground with an oomph. Kill me now please."What the fuck is wrong with this bitch? How dare you touch me?" He screamed, holding so tightly on his weenie—his face holding so much horror, it was kind of funny."Oh my gosh," I covered my face with my palms. "Please forgive me, I'm so sorry for the other day and for touching your ... your ... ugh ... thing. I'm truly sorry sir.""Clara," he said through clenched teeth. "I need this lady out of my house right now. I won't say it again."Clara gave me a sorry look before gesturing towards the door. "You need to leave Miss Cooper. I'll get back to you later."Mr Snider growled. "Nobody's getting back to anybody. She's not getting a job here, let her go elsewhere please."I couldn't possibly give up on this. I have to try my best. I fall on my knees and clamp my palms together. "Please. I'm so sorry sir. I'm ready to do anything you say. Please can we just forget what happened and go on with the interview. I'm really very sorry for touching you inappropriately."This seemed to make him cringe. "Don't remind me jeez."Clara held back a smile. How could she find this funny? "Sir, you need to calm down she's really good at the job. She has lots of experience and she's the last candidate."Mr Snider's head turns toward Clara. "Call one of them back. There's must be someone else ready to do this job but her."Clara shook her head. "You had told me never to call any of the other women again and specifically told me to hire the last person even if she were a bag of rice. She's the last candidate and it'll be rude of you to send her away without an interview."I smiled, thanking the heavens. "I'm really good at doing chores. I can completely take care of your house sir just trust me. I'm good at many other things too, I can run your errands and everything you'll ever want me to do.""This is not a slave deal, Cooper," he clenched his teeth. "I don't like how desperate you sound is my problem. I find it had to trust people who are desperate."That was such a blow to my dignity, but I'd lost regard for the thing a long time ago. "I'm not desperate sir. I just really need the job. I can truly do this job, I'm the perfect candidate for it I swear. This is my only hope for survival sir." The last sentence seemed to move him, because he looked at me with interest.Clara gave me a thumbs up and said, "should I still excuse her sir or would you like to interview her yourself?"Mr Snider finally nodded with a sigh. Okay, alright? At this point I can't stand an interview, but you can have the job since it's clear you need it. Clara you can go back to work while I show her the house. I just hope I didn't make a wrong decision."I squealed with excitement, going as far as hugging Clara. That's how happy I was to finally being able to leave my old life behind. Oh God, I was so happy, I could spend my last card on beer just to celebrate."I won't let you down, sir. I promise."DANIEL'S POV.THE NEXT DAY.I couldn't believe I'd hired that girl. She was so weird and different from anyone I'd seen before and that didn't sit well with me. My pitying self just had to look into her big eyes and give her what she wanted. Now I'm stuck with her as my maid."What's that lady's name again?" I asked Clara who was doing her best to keep up with my stride."Jessica Cooper," Clara said, out of breath.Jessica Cooper is the last name I was expecting a girl like her to bear. She should've been a Miranda or Laurel, Jessica doesn't suit her. Whatever, I don't care.We passed the junior employees who had their heads bowed in greeting and I ignored them. We made it to our floor and the atmosphere of the room didn't seem pleasing. Everyone had their heads bowed, and they looked frightened.I stopped at one employees desk—I think his name was Logan or something and he got up with so much force the chair almost fell back. That right there is was power can do. "What is going on?
DANIEL'S POV.That's it. Clara had officially gone mad."Are you hearing yourself right now, Clara," I said, giving her an astonished look which she returned with a shrug."People do stuff like that all the time Sir, it's nothing new."Nothing new? She wanted me to find a random girl to marry so my dad could give me back my properties. I'd only heard of contract marriages in the movies, I didn't think it was a real thing."And who would want to do that with me? Wait ... No, how does that help my situation? My dad would obviously see through the act, you don't know him like I do," I said. She smiled and crossed her arms. "There are plenty of ladies who would be down for that, I can tell you. What you need to be thinking about right now is a woman who would be willing to go into a contract marriage. I can help you with that if you want."What was Clara saying? It all sounded so wrong to me. I didn't believe in love, but I wasn't one to think a marriage should be manipulated. I didn't be
JESSICA'S POV.I was in my room arranging my things into my assigned room when I heard the sound of someone coming in through the front door. Must've been Mr Snider, I thought. I abandoned the few clothes I was stuffing into the cupboard and went out to greet him, like the perfect housemaid would do.However, my eyes turned as wide as ostrich eggs when I saw a gorgeous lady instead, dressed in a large coat, which was unbuttoned, revealing a very gloriously naked body. What sort of thing was that? I never expected to witness something like this ever. Should I've been worried? The lady scowled when she saw me and plopped down on the couch in a cat-like position. "Who the fuck are you?"I averted my gaze from her pointy pink nipples and cleared my throat. "Excuse me, could you cover up?"She stared at me, with challenge in her eyes. "No can do. Answer my question, who are you?""I'm the maid, who are you?"She chuckled darkly and ruffles her hair like she was trying to be seductive. "I
DANIEL'S POV.I woke up with a feeling of spite. My neck hurt and my eyes were probably swollen because of the drinks I'd taken last night and how long I'd slept in. I felt like shit and hated the fact that I still had to show up for work. If I didn't then it would confirm everything my father said about me.My phone started ringing so I snatched it from the bedside table and scrunched my face when I saw the words, MUM. Oh, now she remembered her son?"Good morning mum," I said in a gruff voice, staring at my cupboard which looked like it was attacked by an animal. I should really be more organised."Morning son, how was your night?" Worst night ever. I haven't hated my self as much as I did yesterday and that Bianca chick just had to be the icing on the cake."It was stressful," I went with the safest word, I didn't want her to know how much Dad's words hurt me. There's no way she wasn't aware of what happened yesterday."Oh my poor boy," she said in a babyish way and I cringed. She
JESSICA'S POV.I've really had enough of Daniel Snider. He has been nothing but rude to me since I got employed and honestly if I wasn't desperate for the cash, I'd have quit this job just like the last one. I needed the money and most of the accommodation, so I sucked up my pride and took his rude behaviour. After my hurried departure from the kitchen, I went back to work which wasn't that much, because I'd been cleaning the place like my life depended on it since I started. I did a few touch up here and there and called it a day. I went to my room and switched on the lights. A part of me still always expected to magically disappear back to my former apartment(if it could be called that even) and my old job, but no matter how much I punched myself, it was real. I'd finally abandoned my old meaningless life and made it into the house, I'd wanted to work in since I saw the housekeeper advert on the internet. My phone started blasting out my ringtone and I smiled when I saw the contact
DANIEL'S POV.My dad was still very much mad at me. He wasn't taking my calls and he hadn't said a word about our argument, according to what Mum said. It was like he had completely shut me out of his life, and was waiting for me to do something to impress him.I really couldn't think of anything to impress him with. According to Clara I was supposed to give it sometime before I introduced my potential wife to him, and that was going to take me about a month. She was right by the way, I couldn't just suddenly bring a girl to him, after telling him times without number that I didn't want a relationship. My dad was smart and he'd have caught the joke immediately if I tried. So, the relationship stunt was out of the picture. I needed something that would make him see how ready I was, but he was being too stubborn.I was swirling around on my chair when Clara stepped in with a blonde chick behind her. Clara was dressed in a hot pink professional dress while the Blondie was in a black not
DANIEL'S POV.I was in my office, arranging some files when a surprise text message made my phone buzz. It was from Bianca. I made a mental note to block her after that.Bianca: Hello handsome. I sneered. What had suddenly come over her? I wished our last conversation would've been able to spell it out that I didn't give a damn about her or what she did. It was fun while it lasted.Me: what is it Bianca?I'd started sorting out some important files I needed when another message came. I was so pissed, I dumped the files and they got mixed up again. Shit.Bianca: I'm sorry for my behaviour. What the fuck was wrong with her? She couldn't possibly have been apologising just so we could get back together, could she?Bianca: I hope we can meet soon and straighten things out.Me: There's nothing to straighten out. We're over and I'm sorry for how I treated you.I wasn't actually sorry, but I needed her to leave me the hell alone. Her name popped on the screen again and I groaned so loudly,
JESSICA'S POV.I'd been feeling stuffed and sick of Mr Snider's big ass house, so after I was done with my cleaning in the house, I made up my mind to take a trip. Check out the environment and maybe try to make some new friends. You never know where you could find someone that might be willing to help you out.I chose a black t-shirt and some form fitting jeans that were kind of faded, having Mr Snider's comment about my choice of dressing in mind. When I was sure I looked decent and approachable, I took my bag and ventured out.I walked around the busy streets, staring at job adverts and interesting places until my eyes landed on a park. My feet moved me towards it before I could even second guess going over there. I took a seat on a bench and was about to start munching on a sandwich I packed on my way when my eyes locked on a hungry looking cat at the corner of a tree in front of me.I always had a soft spot for animals and cats especially. Back in the orphanage I'd volunteered to
DANIEL'S POV.ONE YEAR LATER.I walked through the front door of our new cozy home, my heart brimming with excitement and anticipation. After the whole Lori incident, I'd come clean to Jessica about every single girl I'd played in the past, and because Jessica was so big hearted and understanding, she'd forgiven me, and we decided to bury all that in the past. Our journey to letting go of the past had started from getting a new home. Dad had arranged for a purchase for a new house immediately I'd told him abouy it. And though I felt like he was once again helping me out and treating me like a child—he'd explained that buying that house for us was his way of saying sorry for how bad of a father he'd been. After that day I'd come clean to him about the contract, he'd made it his everyday goal to show his remorse, and I didn't mind. I'd forgiven him already just as I'd forgiven myself for being such an asshole in the past. A smile graced my lips when my nostrils filled with the sweet aro
JESSICA'S POV.The road stretched out before us, illuminated by the soft glow of the streetlights. Daniel's grip tightened on the steering wheel as we made our way home from his parents' house. The meeting had been pleasant, filled with laughter and delicious home-cooked food. And then the feeling of being known as the real Jessica and still receiving love from them felt good. Suddenly, the shrill sound of my phone shattered the silence inside the car. Startled, I fumbled to retrieve it from my purse. The caller ID displayed an unfamiliar number, and a surge of anxiety coursed through my veins. I had learnt to be weary of calls from unknown numbers these days. "Who could this be?" I whispered, uncertain. Daniel shot me a worried glance, his brows furrowing in concern. I think he was scared it was the stalker too. "I don't know, but you should answer it. It might be important."Taking a deep breath, I swiped the screen and brought the phone to my ear. "Hello?"A voice on the othe
DANIEL'S POV. As the morning sun peeked through the curtains, I slowly opened my eyes, feeling a strong wave of contentment wash over me. I turned my head to the side and saw Jessica lying next to me, her tousled hair framing her beautiful face. Last night with her had been the best night of my life, an eye-opener to the beauty of the world of sex with an emotional partner, and not just some shitty hookup. A smile immediately spread across my lips as I remembered vividly all the events of last night. She had been unpredictable and amazing, everything I'd ever wanted in my dreams. "Hey," I whispered, my voice still husky from sleep. "Good morning, beautiful."Jessica stirred and opened her eyes, greeting me with a sleepy smile. "Good morning, handsome," she replied, her voice filled with warmth. "Last night was... amazing. I didn't know you had all that in you, I totally get the Daniel Snider hype now," she joked, laughing at her own humour. I chuckled softly, reaching out to brush
JESSICA'S POV.I tiptoed out of the bathroom, wrapped in a fluffy towel, steam still wafting in the air. My heart however, raced as I realized I wasn't alone. There, standing by the door, was Daniel, his eyes widening in surprise. I felt a blush creeping up my cheeks, making me acutely aware of my semi-nakedness. And then I let out a startled gasp that cut through the silence. I'm so sorry, Jessica,"he stammered, his voice laced with a mix of panic and regret. "I didn't mean to intrude. I was wondering if you weren't home, and ..." he trailed off like he didn't know just what to say next. My voice trembled as I hurriedly wrapped the towel securely around myself, still stuck in surprise. "Daniel, what are you doing here? Why didn't you at least try to announce your arrival?" "I... I didn't think anyone else was home," he managed to reply, with his cheeks flushed with embarrassment. "I came back early, and I was worried when I found the house so quiet. I... I'm sorry, Jessica. I don'
DANIEL'S POV.As I wrapped up another exhausting day at the office, I felt a sense of relief wash over me. The clock had seemingly ticked at a snail's pace, each minute passing by with an agonizing slowness. I yearned for the comfort of my humble abode, and talking to Jessica. But fate had other plans for me that evening.Just as I was about to shut down my computer and bid farewell to my colleagues, a faint ping emanated from my phone. I glanced at the screen to find a text message from Bianca. The name alone sent irritation down my spine, a reminder of the reckless past we shared. Her message was brief but desperate, pleading for a meeting at a nearby coffee shop. A mix of curiosity and caution filled my mind, and after much deliberation, I replied with a reserved agreement to be there. Now, behind the wheel of my car, my mind raced with questions. What could she possibly want from me after all this time? Was it another attempt to rekindle the flame that had long since burned out?
JESSICA'S POV.I watched Daniel as he buttoned up his crisp white shirt, his face showing focus and determination. He was about to head off to work, and I knew it was now or never to tell him my plans for the day."Daniel," I called out, catching his attention. He turned to me, his eyebrows raised inquisitively. "I just wanted to let you know that I'll be going out today to visit Julia."His expression shifted from curiosity to concern in an instant. I could see the worry lines etching deep into his forehead. He walked over to where I stood by the door, his steps deliberate and measured."Jessica, are you sure about this?" He asked, his tone tinged with worry. "You remember what happened the last time you went out alone. And I'm not sure it's safe for you to go with your leg still unstable." I nodded, memories of that fateful day flooding my mind. But I had healed considerably since then, though not completely. At least I could stand on my two feet and move around better than before.
DANIEL'S POV.The day after we'd arrived from the airport, Das had called me concerning work. "What's up Dad?" I'd asked while I ate the delicious sandwich Jessica had made for me before she went and locked herself in her room. I'd wanted to go after her and find out what the problem was, but I figured she was going through a lot and had a lot to think about, so maybe she'd needed that time to just rest and think all by herself."Daniel, my boy. How are you?" Dad greeted, cheerfully. " I heard that you just got back from your Mum. How was your flight?"I'd remembered how eye-opening and tensed it had been, and decided to lie instead. " It was great, but I'm tired. You know how me and flights are.""I'm sorry to hear that, son, because you have a lot of work on your plate. You're resuming tomorrow by the way," he said, his tone swiftly switching to business mode. A groan left my lips and I fisted another sandwich groggily into my mouth before saying, "I know Dad. But can I just get
JESSICA'S POV.As I looked up to the warm Hawaiian sun streaming through the windows, the realization hit me like a wave crashing on the shore. Today was the day Daniel and I had to pack up our things and leave this somewhat paradise behind. The bittersweet feeling hung heavy in the air as I glanced over at Daniel, who seemed lost in his own thoughts.Taking a deep breath, I made my way to the closet. It was as if the room itself reflected our somber mood, with clothes scattered on the floor and suitcases waiting to be filled. I tried to focus on the task at hand, folding my clothes neatly and placing them into my suitcase, but my mind wandered back to the memories we had created here. The sound of zippers being pulled closed filled the room as we moved in synchrony, our actions speaking louder than words. There was an unspoken agreement between us to keep our emotions in check, to not let them spill over and disrupt the process of leaving. We had to be strong for each other. The past
JESSICA'S POV.Whoever it is that wanted to kill me was going too far. It was like whoever it was that was doing this had one sole aim only, which was to harm me. The first time was a hit and run, and then Daniel had told me about the phone call he'd gotten that day, and then yesterday, the person had come directly to hurt me. I woke up that morning with a renewed sense of excitement. Today was the day I would get to finally leave this sterile hospital room that had been my home for far too long. Sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow across the room. I could hardly contain my joy as I glanced over at the man sitting in the armchair beside my bed, my contact husband, turned companion. He was was asleep with his mouth open, and though that was supposed to be gross, it looked so cute to me. He'd fallen asleep while watching a movie on his iPad, as he was waiting for me to get ready. Daniel had started off as a stranger, a jerk, a man I barely knew, but over the cou
