Chapter 4

BLAIRE FOUND himself sitting in his car. He is at the hospital car park. He massaged his temple and breath deeply. Until when he can tolerate Claire’s attitude? For how many times he thought of divorcing her, but surprisingly, he even said earlier that he will not divorce her. Which made him confused as well. 

Maybe because he is just thinking about Zack as well. Though he knows that Claire and Zack are not that close, there are still times that his son is asking where his mother is. His son is just 5 years old but he can say that he is trying his best to get closer to his mother. 

But when did Claire become a mother to Zack? Yes, she is not hurting him physically but the mental torture is there. There are times that Zack is asking if he did something wrong back then to be the reason why his own mother treated him coldly. 

But he cannot think of any reason, aside from the fact that 5 months after their marriage, Claire ran away from him. She claimed that she is his wife but she doesn't feel like that. That was the time when after their marriage, he just wanted to stay in the office and work. He forgot that Claire was pregnant and maybe she needed him most during those times. 

Well, it took her 4 months to show up. Maybe that serves as his punishment. He promised to be a good father when Zack came. For Claire it’s different. He tried to talk to her and even bribed her  sometimes just to have time for Zack. But she loves to be with her friends more than her own son. 

For a week, she was not coming home. Fearing that she ran away again, he hired some people to look for her. Then earlier they’ve found her in a certain cafe. So, he went there. He does not know what has gotten to him but when he saw her in the cafe, he felt some longingness. He does not want to admit it but that’s exactly what he felt. 

Then she started doing her game. She pretended not to know him and ran away again. Then his men were able to follow her and that news came to him. She met an accident. Just a mild accident according to them but still she got wounds and bruises. Also, she was unconscious. 

When she kept saying the same thing in the hospital, he was about to believe her. But then there was her name and birthdate. But she continued anyway. And again he was about to fall on her scheme. He doesn't want to admit it but at some point she was able to convince him. During their conversation, he was thinking, what if she is telling the truth? But their wedding ring was one of the things recovered from the accident, eventually all this turns out to be one of Claire’s games!  

“You are really good at this Claire!” He said disappointedly.

He was about to start the car and go home  when he heard a phone ringing. He checked on the passenger seat and saw Claire’s mobile phone ringing. The police handed to him the things they’ve recovered from the accident. There are only 2 things, their wedding ring and Claire’s mobile phone. 

He furrowed his forehead. “Since when did she change her phone?” He whispered to himself and answered the phone.

“Oh! Thank God Claire! Where have you been? I’ve been so worried about you! Why are you not answering your phone?” Said the woman on the other line.

He quickly checked the name appearing on the screen, ‘BFF Gwen’. He does not know this friend of Claire. Oh, well he does not know any of her friends to be honest. She has many friends. Socialite friends actually. 

“Clarry? Hello? Clarry? Can you hear me?”

This woman must be very close to Claire.

“Yes?” He said.

“Who are you? Why are you holding my best friend’s phone?” 

He can sense how worried she was. So, Claire has a best friend. 

“She is in the hospital now. But she’s okay.” He explained.

‘What? Who is this? Why was she there? Where is this hospital?”

Blaire sighed. “This is her husband and sorry I still have lots of things to do.” He might be rude upon saying that. But he does not have the time to explain everything to her. Anyway, he needs to check on Zack as well.

“What are you talking about?” The woman is now shouting on the other line.

“Sorry, I need to end this call.” He said and pushed the end button and turned off the phone. He does not want to talk to anyone close to Claire, especially those he hasn’t met yet. Because the last time he did. He got scammed! 

Next thing he did was to check on his son. He talked to Nana Amy first. And then she passed the phone to his son.

“Hello Zacky!” 

“Hello Dad, are you coming home now?” He asked.

He was about to say yes but he suddenly saw Claire’s face and he thought of her being alone in the ward. He shook his head when he felt something unfamiliar. Is he concerned about her now? 

“Well, I am actually with mommy. She is in the hospital now. But she is okay. Maybe tomorrow or the next day she will go home with me.” He explained to his son.

“Really? Mommy will go home soon? Is she okay Dad? Can you say hi to her from me?” He felt something touched his heart upon hearing that from his son. He is so loving. Why can’t Claire just see that? 

“Yes son. She is okay and I’m sure she will be very happy to hear that.” He said, though he knew that Claire would not care. 

“I missed her Dad.” Once again his heart melts upon hearing that. 

Zack tries his very best to get along with Claire because he cannot feel the affection of a mother from her. He always wants to impress Claire. But Claire fails to see this. He felt sorry for his son.

“She missed you too. I’m sure.” He lied. 

Whenever his son is asking why he cannot feel the love from his mother, he always says that his mother went through a lot of things when he was still in her womb and it was daddy’s fault. So they need to understand her. That is why he is doing his very best to show his love for his mother.

“I missed you too daddy. I’ll pray for you and mommy. Love you!”

He smiled. What a smart kiddo! “I missed you son and I love you too.” 

After ending the call with his son. He decided to go back inside the ward. He was about to talk to Claire but he found her sleeping peacefully. For a moment he was mesmerized. He is really beautiful with or without makeup, there is no doubt about that.

He really wants to go home but his conscience is eating him, after all she is still his wife.
