Maia
Clyden and I were currently inside his car, driving towards the charity event. Grandma Edith and Jasmine went to the venue before us because Jasmine had to get ready for her performance.
I squeezed my hands in anxiety and let out a deep breath.
Clyden noticed this and hovered his hand over mine. His single hand was able to cover both of my hands. “Why are you nervous?” He asked.
I felt comforted by the warmth of his hand. “I—I’m just feeling nervous now that I'm meeting new people. What if they hate me? Oh god, what if the media roasts my looks?”
Clyden chuckled and held my hands tighter. “What are you talking about? The last thing that people could roast about you is your looks. I mean, look at you!”
I glanced down at my white body con dress and leaned on the car seat. “I don’t see anything special.”
“Hey, don’t say that. You’ll be the most beautiful woman in that event,” he said.
I looked at him incredulously and
Third Person’s POVThe once passive audience suddenly became more awake as they looked at the beautiful figure on the stage. Most of them were looking at her in curiosity, while some in maliciousness. Jasmine, Edith, and Addison, in particular, were delighted to see Maia becoming flustered on the stage. When she tested the violin, and it made an unpleasant sound, their hearts almost burst out in joy.“Let’s see how brave she is now,” Edith whispered to the young women, then they giggled to themselves.Jasmine looked around and saw the people’s anticipating faces. She couldn’t wait until Maia made a fool out of herself. As far as she knows, Maia is not interested in classical music and does not have any talents in this field. She tapped her thighs in excitement. ‘I can’t wait until she embarrasses herself,’ she thought in her head.Maia finally finished tuning the violin, so she closed her eyes a
MaiaThe three of us got in the car, and the moment we entered, I said, “You don’t have to keep acting nice. Clyden’s gone now.”Edith and Jasmine’s smiles fell as they both glared at me. “Ugh, thank god. It felt demoralizing smiling at you for an entire hour,” Jasmine said.I looked down on my lap and silently sighed. I just wanted to go home and hide in my room as soon as possible.“Did you just sigh?” Edith asked. “Such a disrespectful young woman. I really don’t know why Clyden even married you.”Jasmine gently tapped her grandma’s thigh. “Have you forgotten, grandma? Her family only forced Clyden to marry her. Oh! Oops… I’m guessing I’m not supposed to say that,” she said while covering her mouth.I took a deep breath. I looked at the navigation map on the car’s screen and saw that we were only a minute away from the house.
MaiaA lot has happened today— the charity concert, Jasmine and Edith’s attempted assault, and now, Clyden and I are driving towards a hotel. My eyes started to droop as I let out a yawn. Clyden placed one of his hands on my thigh and caressed it gently as he kept his other hand on the steering wheel.“Are you tired? I’m sorry. We’ll be there soon,” he said gently.I shook my head to get rid of my tiredness. Clyden’s probably just as tired as me, so I should stay awake with him for this car ride. “No, I’m okay. How about you? Aren’t you tired?”He smiled while looking at the road. “How could you be so concerned about me after all that had happened? I’m fine. You should look after yourself more.”We finally arrived at the hotel, and Clyden booked the suite on the highest floor. The moment we arrived at the room, I plopped down on the bed and hugged a pillow. Clyden c
MaiaI opened the balcony door and went out to savor the view from our hotel. I heard soft footsteps from behind me then felt Clyden’s arms snake around my waist. I held onto his arms as he held me, and we both looked at the wonderful scenery of Greece. It was our second day here, and all we did during our first day was rest and sleep on the bed.He kissed my head as I felt the warm breeze on my skin. “Do you like it here?” He asked.I nodded my head. “Very much. I wish I could live here forever.”He chuckled. “Me too. But, I really don’t know whether I love the place or the person I’m with more.”I turned around and gazed deeply into his sincere eyes. I stood up on my tippy toes to give him a peck on the cheek, then rested my head on his shoulder. “You’re becoming cheekier each day,” I said while pinching his pecs.“What do you mean by cheeky? I’m just
Maia“So, where are we going today?” I asked while putting on my white sundress. Clyden went behind my back and gave me a peck on the neck. I giggled from the sensation and lightly hit his cheek.“Didn’t you have enough yesterday?”He kept his hold on my waist and sniffed my nape. “No. I can never get enough of you. After yesterday, I think I crave you even more,” he said and bit my neck.“Hey!” I said and pulled away. I observed my neck in the mirror and clicked my tongue. A red, purplish hickey started forming on the area that he bit. “You just gave me a hickey!” I said while pointing at it.He smiled cheekily while buttoning up his white polo. He extended his neck and placed it near my lips. “I’m sorry. You could just do it back to me if it makes you feel better.”I sighed in defeat. “You’re such an expert in flirting. But since you offered for
Maia“I’m sorry that we had to cut our trip short, Maia,” Clyden said while holding my hand.“Don’t be sorry. We’ve been gone for so long, and I’m also worried about grandma Edith’s health.”We had just arrived back in Haven city, and we were currently driving towards the hospital. The moment Jasmine said that grandma Edith had collapsed, we unhesitatingly checked out of the hotel and booked a plane ride home. We had a 14-hour flight, and I could feel myself getting tired. I glanced at Clyden, and he looked even worse than me. He had dark circles under his eyes, and he was massaging his temples.“Are you alright?” I asked, caressing his thigh.“Yeah. My head’s just hurting for a little bit, but I’m glad that you’re here with me,” he smiled.I removed his hands from his temples and placed his head on my shoulder. “Sleep for a while. We still
MaiaI bit my nails in anxiety and walked back and forth in the waiting room. Jasmine was with me in the room, but I ignored her heated glares and just thought about Clyden’s well-being. After what felt like forever, the doctor finally went out of the room and gave us a bitter smile.“Good day, Mrs. Gonzalo and Jasmine.”We both stood up and stood in front of the doctor. I placed my hands together and fiddled with my fingers.“What—What happened, doctor? Is he okay now?” I asked nervously. The doctor sighed and looked at the ground. My heart stopped as all the worst-case scenarios ran through my mind.“Do you want to hear the good news first or the bad news?”“Bad news,” I said.“Good news,” Jasmine said at the same time as me.We both looked at each other then she glared at me.The doctor cleared his throat and brought out his chart. &l
MaiaI opened the door to the house, my eyes stained with tears. My throat felt raw, so I went to the kitchen to fetch a glass of water. I slowly drank the water, thinking about all of the memories that Clyden and I made in this space. Tears threatened to spill from my eyes once again, but I held them in. After taking another gulp of the water, I quickly washed the cup and walked out of the kitchen. The living room was dark, and the servants were all probably asleep. That’s a relief, I thought. I don’t want them seeing me in such a miserable state. I trudged up the stairs, savoring its feeling, knowing that it'll probably be the last time that I’ll be going up these stairs.I entered my room and gently closed the door. I don’t want anyone waking up and seeing what I’m about to do. I looked at myself in the mirror and felt a tear escape from my eye. Although I was expecting this to happen, it still hurts now that it has been done. I
Clyden“So, where are you taking Maia today, Clyden?” Maia’s mom, Victoria, asked me once I entered the kitchen. I had just woken up while Maia was still in bed. I know better than to wake her up since she’s going to be grumpy all day if I do.I tilted my head to the side, confused. “Why? Is there a special occasion today?”She dropped her ladle and turned to me with wide eyes. “Did you forget?”“Forget about what?” I asked, still confused. She gasped in surprise and covered her mouth. “Come on. Think about it a little bit more. Today’s the 16th of January.”My eyes went wide when the realization came to me. “Shit,” I cursed under my breath.“Oh god! You really forgot! Haven’t you planned anything?”I shook my head and pulled my hair in anger. How could I forget our wedding anniversary?! What am I going to do now? M
KarlToday is an important day. My boss, Sir Clyden, just asked me for a favor. I refused at first, but when I heard about his reason, I had no choice but to agree.I was standing in a cornfield, talking to Maia about Clyden getting into an accident. This was all a lie, of course. This is just Clyden’s scheme to get Maia running after him like crazy.“Have you finished the call?” Clyden asked, emerging from the cornfield.“Yes, sir,” I said and handed him my work phone. “I’ll be sitting here and waiting for your signal. Just press the home button when you need me to turn all of the lights on.”“Good. Good,” he nodded his head. “Thanks for this, Karl. I’d give you a hefty bonus when we get back.”“Looking forward to it, sir!” I said and bowed.I pulled out my folding chair and placed it in between the corn stems. I scratched the
Maia There he was— Clyden, the love of my life, standing in the very middle of the road. The sun shone down on his face, making him have an indescribable glow. The sun was still shining, but his smile shone even brighter. I felt the wind brushing through my hair, but the cold had long been forgotten. The person right in front of me was the embodiment of the sun, and his warmth emanated just from his gaze, masquerading as a pleasant hug. The sight brought tears to my eyes. I came here knowing that Clyden had gotten in an accident, but this is just as tear-jerking as the thought of him getting hurt. He walked closer to me while I became a blubbering mess. “Why—What… Karl told me that you’re hurt. How could you even walk right now?” I stammered. He pulled me into his chest and comforted me. “Shh, Shh,” he said. “I’m okay. Don’t cry. I’m sorry,” he said while caressing my hair. I looked up at him from his chest and wiped off my tea
Clyden“Sir, when are you going back here? The board directors are already asking where you are!” That was the first thing that Karl said to me when I dialed his number.I sighed. “I know. I know. But I really can’t go there right now. Something very important came up, even much more important than the company.”“Why? What happened, sir?” He asked with a worried voice.I felt a smile creeping up my lips. “I’m going to be a father. Maia’s pregnant.”The line stayed silent for a while, and then I heard some things crashing down on the floor.“Karl, you okay?”“Oh my gosh!” He said in a high-pitched tone which made me raise my eyebrows in surprise. Karl cleared his throat and went back to his normal voice. “No… I mean. Congratulations, sir. It seems like you really have much more important matters to take care of. So, why did you call?&
Maia“I’m home, Maia. I’ve already booked you a check-up with the doctor for your first month of pregnancy.”My eyes widened in shock, and I kept still in my seat, not bothering to look at Clyden. His eyes were burning holes into my skin, but I kept my gaze on my mother, who was coming in.“Mom,” I said in a cautionary voice. However, my mom didn’t even notice the unusual presence in our living room because she kept on talking about my pregnancy.“Are you still having morning sickness? I had the doctor prescribe some medicine for you to help alleviate that. Do you want me to prepare it for you?” She asked.“Mom,” I said louder this time.“I’ve also noticed that you haven’t been sleeping these days. Maybe because Clyden isn’t around. I also had some troubles sleeping when I was pregnant with you and when your father wasn’t around. Maybe you could c
MaiaOkay. Maybe it wasn’t a good idea to let Clyden stay here in the house. But, who could blame me? He was so smooth with his words, and he just told me that he loved me despite all of our conflicts in the past. Who wouldn’t fall for that? However, I am slowly regretting it since I couldn't sleep knowing that he was only a few meters away from me. I looked down onto my stomach and caressed it.“I’m sorry if mommy isn’t letting you have any sleep. Your daddy’s sleeping outside, so mommy’s nervous,” I softly whispered.Suddenly, the door opened, and I got a bit frightened. I held onto my chest and propped myself up with one elbow.“What the hell! You scared me!” I said, still holding onto my heart. He smiled sheepishly while holding the door open. “Sorry.”I sighed and leaned back on my side. “What do you want?” I asked. He let out a deep breath
MaiaI jolted awake when I heard that there was someone knocking on the door. I opened my phone and flinched when its bright light hit me.11:42 PMWho the heck would be knocking on my door at almost 12 AM in the morning? Unless...My eyes widened in surprise as I thought of all the worst-case possibilities. No one in their right mind would knock on my door unless they were planning on mugging me.My mom also isn’t here since she’s staying in the hospital for some assessments. What perfect timing! The person kept knocking on my door, and I was getting more anxious by the minute. I looked around to see if I could use anything as a weapon and sighed in relief when I saw a piece of wood near the closet.I walked slowly towards the piece of wood and held it firmly with my hands. The person’s knocks were getting even louder and louder, causing me to move more swiftly.Suddenly, the knocks stopped, but the anxiousne
ClydenI was already in the airport, waiting for my flight to be called. I tapped my foot on the floor in both nervousness and excitement. I was excited to see Maia and hold her in my arms once again, but I’m also unsure whether she’ll even speak with me. I'm even unconfident that she'll let me inside of her house! I just hoped that she’d give me the chance to explain myself.I looked at my watch and saw that it was only a few minutes until my flight is due. Eager to get on the plane right away, I stood up and waited right in front of the doors.I waited for the exact time of my flight, but not a single reminder resonated in the airport. I frowned. The flight’s already due. Why isn’t anyone opening the doors?Just then, someone spoke into the intercom, and I felt relieved for a second.“Good day, passengers! Today is a very special day since our pilot himself has something to say.”I frowned in confu
ClydenI was all alone in my office because Karl had to set out to the address that I gave to Edith and Jasmine. I told him to make the place as unlivable as possible since they were the reason why I wasn’t able to answer Maia’s call.I was still staring down at my phone, hoping that Maia would call once again when someone knocked on the door.Is Karl already back? That was fast.“Come in,” I mindlessly said, still staring down at my phone.“Did you trash that place like I told you to? You came back earlier than expected, so I’m worried whether you were able to—”I paused when I felt an unusual presence in the room. I looked up, expecting to see Karl, but I saw the person that I never would have expected to find in my office. A tall blonde figure hovered over me, and I looked up to him with a frown.“Lucas? What the hell are you doing here? Why didn't the front desk inf
