Bivianne
"What's the matter?" aunt asked. "Oxem, what's going on?"
I looked away and immediately took my things to get out of there. I don't want to be rude to aunt but I don't want to stay here with her son anymore. Her son's making me uncomfortable. Really uncomfortable.
"Let's go first, aunt," I informed. "Sorry for the trouble and thank you very much. I have to go home too."
"Okay. Be careful. I'll take you all the way outside."
I couldn't look at Oxem anymore and quickly left their house. If I stay there any longer, I might not be able to breathe forever. Fortunately, Kenneth didn't ask any more questions about what happened. I don't know what to say.
I said goodbye to aunt again before leaving. Oxem never left their house, thankfully, so I never saw him again.
I leaned back in the chair and sighed. What the hell is wrong with that guy? How can he say that without stuttering? Pay him more attention? Why? Why do I have to do that? I pay the same attention to him and to other people I know.
I don't know about him. Whatever is said. I don't understand what's going on in his mind. Or maybe he just likes messing with my head. And my heart. I don't have time for the likes of him.
The next day, I was immediately overwhelmed when I met Yeshua in the hallway. He had a teasing smile while looking at me but I ignored him like I used to.
"So," he began as he followed the king to walk, "I heard you and Oxem answered."
"We did not answer each other. He is what you said."
He nodded. "And you didn't say anything back? It doesn't seem like it either. Knowing you, I know you have come back to what other people say. And I know you're as hot-headed as my cousin, so it's impossible not to answer each other."
I glared at him before sitting in my chair. She sat in front of me. "I don't get hot."
He laughed loudly. "See? Your head is getting hot right away."
I just shook my head and calmed myself down. She's right. My head is getting hot again because of him. They are both his cousins. They both like messing with me.
"Please tell your cousin to stop me. I don't have time for people like him. I have enough of you already.”
He clutched his chest and acted like he was hurt. "You can talk a lot, huh? But even if I tell him that, I can't do anything if he doesn't follow. Besides being hot headed, he is also stubborn.”
I just sighed. "Nevermind, then. I will never go back to their house again. We will never see each other again."
I looked at him when he didn't answer. That's his teasing smile again. But before I could ask, he stood up and said goodbye to me. They said they still have training for their upcoming game.
While I was left in the room to arrange what would be passed on to ma'am Aquino. The sooner we can pass, the better. He might even give us extra points because we finished early.
Kenneth also edited the video quickly without losing quality. He seems to be used to it. Fortunately, he became our group mate. If not, I might end up with all such tasks.
Yeshua's game day came. And since I promised to come and watch, there's nothing I can do. I told Kiko too and he didn't object. He said he was just there in the parking lot and waiting for me.
When I got to the gym the crowd was already disappearing. Here at our school is another branch of our school in the province. Here is the main campus, which is us, the Meneses campus and the Hagonoy campus.
My eyes seek Yeshua and they have not yet begun. They were stationed near the players' bench and were watching the men's basketball match. The match is hot so I think it's over.
When Yeshua saw me he immediately waved. "Sit here. We're leaving to warm up. Our bench will be here later."
He introduced his teammates Keisha, Gina, Lyla and Miya. Lyla is the one wearing different clothes because she is said to be the goal keeper or the one who guards the goal wearing gloves.
"Don't leave here, Biv," said Yeshua when the five of them stood up. "My cousins are coming to join you. They're a little late because they also have a class and they're still waiting."
I didn't ask anymore because they left. My heart beat faster because of what he said. His cousins? He didn't say it right away. But what else can I do? I'm here. And one more thing, some of them will definitely go because they are also studying here. They are close cousins so it is only natural that they watch Yeshua's last game before gr-um-aduate.
The basketball match ended and Yeshua and the opponent entered immediately to warm up. The goals have been placed at both ends of the court and the nets have been tied with basketball rings.
It wasn't long before I heard Peter's voice. "Bivianne! You're here. My best friend is supportive."
Paulle, one of their cousins, hit him. "Your best friend?"
He snorted. "I mean, Yeshua's best friend. Whatever you think. Then you know, we'll be good friends. You'll never know."
"Really? Alright. I'll report you to Erika."
One of their male cousins entered the conversation. I forgot his name but he was always smiling. "It would be good if he would pay attention to you, eh, you don't care about Peter."
"I'm so ashamed of you, Kise. Why? Has Keisha noticed you yet?" And they started arguing so I started getting dizzy with them again. I can't really keep up with their trips.
"Don't make a fuss. Let's sit down."
I stopped in my seat when I heard his voice. I just bowed down in fear that our eyes might meet again. What he said to me at their house is still fresh in my mind. I'm not that ignorant to not know what he meant at that time.
"Hey." I was surprised when he stood next to me. "Can we talk?"
"We're talking."
He sighed. "I'm sorry."
I frowned but still couldn't look at him. "Why are you so-sorry?"
He didn't answer right away. "I—I don't know. Maybe because I pissed you off?"
"You didn't. So don't be sorry."
"But even so, I'm still sorry. When you left that day, I felt like I'd never see you again. But here you are."
I didn't know what to answer there so I just looked back at the court. Fortunately, the game was about to start so he didn't speak again.
Our place was filled with screams. But unlike before, almost everyone in the gym has disappeared. It seems that the game of futsal is not really popular. Or maybe basketball is just too popular.
Yeshua only has five members as he said while the other team has reserve players. The Meneses campus is their opponent.
Since I also loved sports before, I could easily say that the opponent was really good. They seem to have a really hard time with them. There are also good people in Yeshua's group, but Keisha seems to be the only one who has their loyalty and strength.
Yeshua also has movement and is good at dribbling the ball, but I can't say he can keep up with the opponent. He is too small and thin compared to the known body of the team.
Midway through the game, the match heated up. Yeshua can keep up with the enemy, not as I thought earlier. Keisha carried the whole game.
Yeshua and Gina carry the ball well. They exchange blows so that the enemy does not attack them. Keisha was lurking near the goal and looking for an opportunity to leave her defense.
And because of his agility, he often escapes the guard's defense. He doesn't flake if he kicks. It's as if he knows exactly where the hole in the defense is and doesn't give the opponent a chance to react.
Miya was a good last man who was just waiting in front of their goalkeeper. He and Lyla guard the goal. They often caught the ball so that the opponent could not score, but the defense from Yeshua, Keisha and Gina was not really enough so they had more chances to kick after kick. I couldn't help but bite my lower lip. There's this urge that starts to form in my will. I badly want to play too.
The match was close and the game was only a few minutes away. The defense tightened up on Keisha because they had the ball. It seems that Yeshua was offended because no one was watching him so he kicked the goal. The opponent was shocked so he scored.
The game was tied.
"That's my cousin!" Paulle exclaimed while jumping. He almost rushed into the middle. I'm the one who hurts his throat.
When the ball was in the opponent's hands, Yeshua's defense also tightened. Maybe it's because of the adrenaline and intensity of the game that they are like that. And because of that, Keisha quickly grabbed the ball and immediately passed it to Yeshua who is the best ball carrier.
"Take it easy!" Oxem shouted. "You still have a lot of time. Take your time and think, Yesh!"
Yeshua quickly passed the ball to Keisha when she found an opening again. But what everyone didn't expect was when one of the players and Keisha collided. Keisha lay writhing on the floor holding her ankle. We all stood up and looked at what happened.
The opponent took the opportunity to get the ball and score because the foul was not called.
"Hey, ref!" Kise exclaimed. "Are you blind? That's an obvious foul. Anyone with eyes can see that."
But it was as if he didn't hear anything and whistled, signaling that the fight was over and the enemy had won. The group of them screamed while we all just looked at Keisha who had calmed down a bit.
Male officials helped him to walk to the clinic. It was only then that I noticed that Kise was one of those who helped lift him up.
"That's okay, cousin," said Paulle. "The ref is obviously biased. We've noticed it before. You guys are still better."
Yeshua forced a smile and reached out to Peter for support. It was his tenth time and he seemed to feel tired just now. When he faced Oxem, the smile he was trying to show disappeared.
"You did great, Yeshua," said Oxem. And that was the signal for Yeshua's tears to flow. This girl really cried a lot.
"We didn't win," he wailed. "I promised you that we would win this but we failed you. I'm so embarrassed."
Peter ruffled her hair. "You really are! You're really good. The only trick is because there's no foul. You still have a chance to score."
The cousins gathered and joined Yeshua to tease him because of his crying. I just smiled while watching them. They are really close to each other. Maybe because they are close in age and grew up in the same compound.
"Group hug. Group hug!" Paulle exclaimed while pulling them.
They shouted as if they were the only people in the court. They even beat the winner.
"You're welcome, Biv!" Peter asked. "You will soon be our cousin too." My mouth fell open. "I mean, you're like our cousin. Right, best friend?"
I laughed softly but still shyly shook my head. They are not my cousins. It's a shame to join them.
I was surprised when Oxem suddenly pulled me by the arm. I grabbed his chest and quickly stood up straight. I looked away but he still didn't release his grip on my arm.
In the end, I couldn't do anything but hug, especially when Yeshua hugged me tightly.
"Thanks for watching, Biv. Sorry because we didn't win. It's your first time to watch and you're just disappointed."
I laughed softly. "It's okay, what are you! You're even better than them. Partida, there's only five of you, huh?"
He laughed loudly while wiping away tears. "You said it! If you had joined me, we would have won."
I just shook my head. "You know my answer to that."
"Yes. What else can I do, eh, this is the last one? The next one is in college."
It wasn't long before we left there. They wanted to take me out to eat but I refused. I only have one hour to say goodbye, and I don't want to test my luck and my mom's patience.
I don't know if he won't scold me once he finds out that I went somewhere other than the classroom and the library. I guess I just have to cross my fingers.
BivianneI sighed when our Earth Science teacher left. Our class is over for the day so I can go home. It's been a few days since Yeshua's game, but the events are still fresh for me. How could I not forget, well, Oxem was there.I sighed again. He has been the stuff of my brain for a few days. I am very thankful that it does not affect my studies. But after my eighteen years of existence, just now I was disturbed by a man. At least it's my brain. There were many people who made me feel bad even when I was in junior high school, but none of them touched me. I had a crush but not so bad that I always think about it wherever I go. I was just so focused with my studies before that I didn't have time for boys. And now that Oxem came into my life, my thoughts were divided. Before, all I could think about was studying and milk tea. Now he is with her. It has become studies, milk tea, and Oxem. And it's like fate is still teasing me because he's here right now in front of me. He was looking
Bivianne"Bivianne Cordova," called ma'am Teresa who is our Gen Math teacher. "You seem busy lately."At first I didn't get what he meant. But when I saw my grade in the exams last time, my mouth dropped. I felt as if I was frozen in place while staring at my paper."Two mistakes. You know I can't do anything when your mom asks about your grades, right?"I was just dumbfounded and stared at the two circles on my paper as if that would change. But not. Two of my answers are still wrong. And no matter what I read in the questions, that is really wrong. I don't know why even though I know the correct answer now, I still got it wrong on the exam day itself.Until the end of our class for the whole day I was just stunned. There's no use listening to the class. Because I will definitely be locked in the basement again and mom will hurt me. Thinking about it makes me shiver.I remember the last time I had a low grade. She dragged me to our basement and assaulted me there. He doesn't let anyo
BivianneMy classmates are looking at me strangely again. I know they know what happened even though I don't say anything. It is that obvious. Even if I put on a jacket, I still can't hide my wounds. Heck, I think the jacket is even one of the reasons why I'm getting so much attention right now.So even though it was irritating I still did my best to ignore their looks. It's up to them to stare at that. I do not care. I need to study more and my new Gen Math tutor called me. As I expected, I will have a private tutor.Ma'am Cynthia Joson is said to be a good teacher in any branch of math. She's a licensed engineer too but she says she really likes teaching more. She's one of my mom's few friends in high school.I can't wait to meet her. According to the information I read, he was one of those who tried to beat mom to the valedictorian position in high school. It's like Yeshua and I. I wonder if Yeshua and I will still be friends in the future when we have jobs. Before the class starte
BivianneI took a deep breath before starting to answer. Today is our midterm examinations. I need to do well. Now I have to show mom that I will once again get the first spot in our entire batch. All those sleepless nights will finally pay off.In the middle of answering, I felt something dripped out of my nose. When I wiped it, I saw that my nose was bleeding. I quickly grabbed a napkin inside my bag. Our teacher noticed that so he immediately looked up at me. But I didn't listen to her. I need to finish the test on time. I only have a few minutes left."It's okay, Bivianne," said ma'am Teresa. "I will give you time later to finish the test. Stop your nose bleeding first."I followed him. It didn't take long and it stopped, so I continued. Even though I was dizzy, I still didn't take my eyes off my paper. I just closed my eyes slowly when I finished the last equation. My head throbbed more.“Time's up! Pass your papers forward.”Two more to go and we're done for this day. We had an
BivianneI took a deep breath and blew a cool breeze. Oxem took me to a large farm that they said belonged to their family. I think it's one of his cousins."Kise's family owns this farm," Oxem began. "The Ramos family, my father's side, is not really a wealthy clan. In fact, grandma and grandpa's lifestyle is below average. Grandpa is the only one who has a job so that is enough for their daily food. They're a family with thirteen kids, after all."I stared at him as he looked at the vast field. It was as if he saw his grandfather and grandmother there with their children.I listened as he told the story. We sat on the grass that he just covered with a big blanket."Tell me more about your family," I said. "I still want to meet you. I want to know you more.”Our eyes met and he smiled. "Nothing worth telling, actually. As you can see, I grew up with my cousins so we are very close to each other. I also grew up with both of my parents.” His smile disappeared as he bowed. "I don't kn
BivianneThe smile on my lips immediately disappeared when I saw mom in the living room. He was drinking wine while reading something on his tablet. Probably about work. He never runs out of work."Where have you been?" he asked without even looking up from the tablet.I approached him while bowing. "My friend's house.""Yeshua's?" Right. She knows I'm friends with Yeshua. He is my only friend. Not until I met her cousins, though."Yeah. With her cousins."His eyebrows arched. Still not taking his eyes off the tablet. "Her cousins?""I met them when we had an activity about a farm. Yeshua's cousin owns a farm. He introduced me and my groupmates.""I remember that. Take a seat." He pointed to the empty sofa in front of him. "So, how was your grade there?"As soon as I sat down, Cassady immediately put a snack in front of me. "We received a perfect grade.""Good. And your midterms, how was it?""I answered everything. I think I'll get a good grade again this time.""You think?" I swallo
BivianneI heaved a long deep sigh before listening to our teacher. We haven't finished the lesson yet but I still have to listen because I might miss an important announcement. The finals are near. We will definitely have more requirements for the upcoming graduation. But no matter what I do, I can't really focus. I still can't hear what Sir Ohn is saying. The only thing on my mind was what Oxem said earlier before we parted in the hallway. He's bothered by my presence, too. Like me, his heart beats faster every time we touch each other. Just his mere presence gives me butterflies. And to know that he is the same made my brain and heart even more confused. It's not one of my plans to like a guy in high school. All I want is to finish my education. I can probably find someone to like when I'm working. But now, I don't know anymore.I think I just know that I like Oxem. I really like him."Are you ready?" Yeshua asked immediately after entering our room. Even before I was able to arran
Bivianne"Bivianne Cordova," Sir Ohn called my name.I slowly stood up to get my report card. Instead of looking at my grade, I immediately hid it until I got back to my seat.My heart was pounding. I was breathing fast because I was so nervous. I feel like I'm going to throw up everything I ate this morning. I know I answered everything on the day of the exam itself, but it's different now that I have the grades. It's Saturday. We went to school to get our grades. We can take it any time today but my classmates decided to take it in the morning.Oxem's grade will be taken today, that's why we decided to eat lunch outside with his cousins. Yeshua will also be with us today, so I don't think there will be any problem, especially if mom finds out.As expected, Oxem was waiting for me outside the room after us. I quickly came to him and grabbed his arm."Have you been here for a while?" I will ask.“A little.” We started walking to the parking lot where his cousins were waiting.“You s
Bivianne"Congratulations, everyone!" I greeted them as we left the venue. We had stayed a bit longer inside since they proceeded straight to the awarding ceremony."Thank you, Ate Bivianne!""Thanks, Bi!"They all hugged me at once, and we almost lost our balance. Thankfully, Oxem quickly caught me around the waist, preventing us from falling."Calm down, guys," Oxem said. "You might hurt yourselves."They pouted, making me smile as I hugged each of them one by one. "I guess we won’t get hurt if I hug you all individually."They all grinned widely and returned my hugs. After that, we walked down the hallway. I thought we were heading to dinner, but to my surprise, they went straight to a room to review their game. Before they could enter, I blocked their way. "Hold up! I know you’re used to reviewing your game right after playing, but you guys won! You need to take it easy and celebrate before coming back here."Instead of answering, they all looked at Oxem. I raised an eyebrow at hi
"When did you have time to prepare this?" I asked while we were eating. We both ordered steak and paired it with wine. "I'm sure you were super busy earlier preparing for the tournament.""While you were sleeping," he replied with a smile. "I honestly didn’t know what I would do if you had refused to sleep earlier. That was the only time I had to prepare all of this.""I didn’t realize. I must have been really tired then, so I didn’t suspect anything. And this is too extravagant for just a few hours of preparation.""I can’t take all the credit. Khaianne helped me to speed up the setup, and the staff pitched in too."I smiled. "Thank you so much for this, Oxem."He smiled back. "Thank you so much, too, for coming with me.""It’s my pleasure."We continued eating while chatting. It had been a while since we last dined out together due to how busy we both were. In a way, the kids’ tournament turned out to be a blessing in disguise, giving us a chance to have a date. After dinner, we hea
BivianneI jumped up from my seat when the game ended. A wide smile spread across my face as I watched Oxem and the players hug each other. If my palms were red earlier, they were definitely bruised now. They won. They did it!I couldn’t stop smiling as I watched everything unfold in front of me. They shook hands with their opponents and even exchanged hugs. It seemed like they had known each other for a long time and frequently faced off in tournaments. After their game, the next one quickly prepared to start. Oxem passed by where we were seated and invited us to step out. I guess they’re done for the day. They’ll be in the finals tomorrow. I wonder if we’ll have time for a date, given their busy schedule. As Roberto mentioned earlier, they went straight into reviewing their game. They didn’t seem to have any complaints because, even before Oxem said anything, they were already focused on the replay. Each of them was reviewing it on their own. They spent a few minutes watching before
After we finished eating, we took a short rest. Rodmarc was still chatty, but compared to earlier, the nervousness on his face was now obvious. Khaianne, Roberto, and Oscar also had serious expressions. Even Oxem’s expression was hard to read.I gently squeezed Oxem’s hand. He looked at me, so I gave him a reassuring smile.“It’s going to be okay,” I said. “You need to be there for the kids.”He smiled immediately. “You’re right.” He kissed my forehead. “Thank you.”When we entered the room, several computers were set up for their dry run. I didn’t know much about what happens during a dry run, but I figured this was my chance to learn more. If I’m going to sponsor more e-sports teams in the future, I need to do it right.Khaianne and the whole team sat on the right side of the room. On the left side, five of the staff members joined them. Everyone, including Oxem, wore headphones. He handed me a pair, which I put on as well. They tested the sound. Since I had headphones on too, I cou
BivianneWe’d been on the road for almost six hours, partly due to traffic. We only had one stopover before continuing the journey. When the kids finally fell asleep, I leaned back in my seat and closed my eyes. I realized these kids do get tired after all. I thought they wouldn’t stop talking until we arrived.I felt a tap on my shoulder, and when I opened my eyes, I saw Oxem looking at me. I immediately understood what he wanted. I glanced at the kids, now sound asleep, and quietly stood up. Oxem helped me until I was seated next to him.As soon as I sat down, he wrapped his arms around my waist and buried his face in my neck. I glanced to the side, where two of the staff members were seated, but thankfully, they were asleep as well.He sighed against my neck, sending a ticklish sensation through me. "I didn’t know I had to compete with the kids for your attention."I smiled. "I haven’t spent time with Khaianne in a while. He really missed me.""And I know you missed him too." I did
"Meeting adjourned," I said after our several-hour-long meeting. I gathered my things before leaving the meeting room and headed straight to my office.Jane, my new secretary, followed behind me, listing my schedule for the rest of the day. Once I sat down at my desk, I immediately began reviewing the new documents that had just arrived earlier.I had already finished a lot yesterday, but it felt like they doubled again today. On top of that, we have another meeting at three o’clock with the shareholders, which will definitely take up a lot of my time. After Jane left my office, I continued with my work. My phone rang on the desk, and when I glanced at it, I saw Oxem’s name on the screen, which instantly made me smile. I put it on speaker."Hi, beautiful," greeted Oxem. I could slightly hear Khaianne and her teammates in the background, seemingly playing."Hi, handsome. I miss you.""I miss you too." I could sense the sadness in his voice. "What time will you be out later?"I glanced
I took a deep breath before knocking. I know that there's a 50-50 chance that I'll see him here but I still can't help but be nervous. This is where he leaves, after all. When they have an important game, he sleeps here with his players.I'm not a stalker. I only know such details because I am one of their team sponsors. I can't help but find out every time they have a game that involves money. Our company also makes money there. When the door opened, I caught my breath. That 50-50 chance just became a hundred."How may I help you, Ma'am Cordova." Ma'am Cordova. Great. Just like how my employees call me."Is Khaianne here? I got a delivery for him.” I even lifted the box to show him.He frowned as he looked at my hand. "You should have just sent it to one of your staff. No need to deliver it yourself.”I immediately thought of a reason. "This is a gift for my brother. So maybe it's only natural that I bring it myself."Damn that excuse. But he shouldn't notice that I just wanted to se
BivianneI convince myself that the only reason I'm going is to watch my brother. He had nothing to do with me going to the game. I just want to support Khaianne and I know Leo will go too. It's like they are brothers and not us.Mom is now happily married with a guy named Keam, Juanito's brother, her first love. The story is too long, but Keam is a good guy. At first I did not agree with their relationship. But when I met him and his son, I didn't do anything. And Khaianne is my twenty-year-old brother. He was young when we first met so we immediately got close to each other despite having different dads and moms. His brother is so sweet that's why Yeshua fell. And I can't believe these two had history two years ago. According to Yeshua she was too young for him so they broke up, but I wonder about that.I couldn't take my eyes off him when the game started. I played this game before so somehow I know what's going on. He taught me how to play this before, after all.E-sports has beco
BivianneI mustered all my courage and dialed Oxem's number. My hands were still shaking while holding the phone. We didn't see each other and talk for a few weeks. I don't even know what to say to him.But I promised we would talk. And in this conversation, I have to tell him that we can't be together and that my decision is complete. My phone rang signaling that he had answered. But neither of us answered. It was as if we were both just waiting to see who would speak first. Or maybe we are both afraid of what we will hear from each other. That's why I thought ahead. "Let's break up." I laughed when I heard my own voice. "It turns out we can't break because we don't have anything yet."He didn't find my joke funny, though, because he didn't laugh. In fact, his voice from the other line seemed too cold. "Is it because of that guy? Is it true what he said? Are you getting married?”I bit my lower lip. "Yeah. We are. Two weeks from now.”We were silent again. I punched my pillow because
