Chapter 23

Lucas’s POV

The phone call caught me off guard. I hadn’t expected to hear from her, not like this. I knew right away it had something to do with Daphne; it had to. Sienna wouldn’t reach out otherwise. I didn’t waste time thinking about it. I grabbed my keys and headed straight for the hotel.

When I walked into the lobby, I spotted them almost immediately, Sienna standing there, and Daphne beside her, looking up at me with those wide, expectant eyes and I could see that Daphne was waiting for something.

Sienna cleared her throat, her voice softer than I remembered. “I’m... I’m sorry, Lucas,” she said, her eyes barely meeting mine. “Daphne wanted me to apologize.”

That was it. No emotion, no explanation, just words strung together because her daughter had asked her to. I could feel the hollow tone in her voice, and I knew she didn’t mean it. But still, I wasn’t here for Sienna. I was here for Daphne.

Kneeling down to Daphne's height, I scooped her up into my arms. She w

Chapter 24 Sienna’s POV As soon as Daphne was out of earshot, Lucas turned to me, his eyes were cold and filled with frustration. "You need to stop with this childish nonsense," he snapped. "The stories, the rumors, take them all down, Sienna. What is wrong with you?" I crossed my arms, not backing down. “Childish? You think that's childish? What about you telling me what to do, you don't think that's childish? ” His jaw clenched, the muscles in his neck tightening. “What has gotten into you!? Spreading lies about me isn’t just childish, it’s pathetic. You’re making everything worse for Daphne, can’t you see that?” “Lies?” I scoffed, feeling my blood start to boil. “You really think I’m the one who ruined everything, don’t you? You act like you’re some saint in all of this. And you think all of those are lies?” “This isn’t about me, Sienna! It’s about Daphne, and you know it.” “Don’t pretend like you’re doing this for her,” I shot back. “You don’t get to call the shots, Lucas.

Chapter 25 Lucas’s Pov How could she be so heartless and even finding it hard to do the right thing!? I just couldn't decipher what was up with her. If she found someone even before I left her she should be able to let it go properly. Why should I suffer for it? I drove home faster than usual, my mind raced with everything that had happened. The argument with Sienna replayed in my head on a loop, every word sharper than the last. How could she be so cruel? I just couldn't place my mind out of it, it was extremely frustrating to stop thinking about it. By the time I pulled into the driveway, I was exhausted, physically and mentally. I just wanted peace, something simple. I needed to let go of the frustration that clung to me like a second skin. I stepped through the door, Lisa was already there, waiting for me, obviously. She must have been waiting for a long time. She looked up, her eyes lighting up as soon as she saw me. Without saying a word, she wrapped her arms around my

Chapter 26 Sienna’s Pov For the first time in what felt like forever, Daphne was smiling at me. It wasn’t just a small smile either, it was bright, genuine, the kind that made me feel like everything wasn’t completely falling apart. We had spent the last hour laughing, talking about her day, and even though it was simple, it was enough. I hadn’t realized how much I missed this, how much I needed it. “Thank you, Mama,” Daphne said softly as she leaned against me, her little arms wrapped around my waist. “For what, baby?” I asked, running my fingers through her hair. “For saying sorry to Lucas” she murmured, her face buried in my side. “I didn’t want him to hate me.” I froze for a moment, my heart catching in my chest. It was like a knife to the gut, hearing her say that. All the fighting, the tension between me and Lucas, it had affected her more than I realized. But I forced myself to smile and hugged her tighter. “I’m glad you’re happy, Daphne,” I whispered, pressing a ki

Chapter 27 Lucas’s Pov I wasn’t expecting anyone, so when the knock came at the door, I was surprised. I swung it open and immediately exclaimed, “Ken? What the hell are you doing here?” Without waiting for an invitation, Ken brushed past me into the house, his face serious, tense. I shut the door behind him, watching as Lisa’s expression shifted. She quickly picked up on the mood, glancing between us before offering a polite smile. “I’ll give you two some space,” she said softly, touching my arm as she walked past. She headed upstairs, leaving Ken and me standing in the living room. Ken didn’t waste any time. “We bagged another contract,” he began, but there was hesitation in his voice. “But I don’t think it’s going to work out.” I sighed, pinching the bridge of my nose. “It’s late, Ken. Real late. Do we really need to do this now?” Ken looked at me, his expression was flat. “Lucas, this could backfire. The client’s already shaky. We’ve been burned before, you know that.” I

Chapter 28 Sienna's Pov I stared at my phone, waiting for a voice, a sound, anything. But there was nothing. Just silence. The longer it stretched, the more it made my skin crawl. It felt intentional, like someone was on the other end, just listening, refusing to speak. Lucas? No. He’d have said something. Someone else? “Hello?” I repeated for what felt like the hundredth time, my voice shaky now, more desperate. Still, nothing. Just the eerie sound of silence, and maybe, just maybe, faint breathing. My chest tightened. Enough was enough. I hung up, the click of the call ending breaking the heavy silence that had settled around me. I stared at the screen for a moment, my fingers trembling slightly. That didn’t feel like a wrong number. It felt deliberate. I tossed the phone onto the table and took a deep breath, shaking my head. “You’re being paranoid, Sienna,” I whispered to myself, though the tension in my shoulders didn’t ease. My nerves were still shot from earlier, Lucas, D

Chapter 29 Sienna’s Pov I decided to go back to the room to get some sleep, that way I'd get my head eased off a bit before anything else popped out. I hadn’t even made it halfway to the bed when the phone buzzed again. I stopped in my tracks, staring at the screen. It was the same unknown number. My pulse quickened, and for a moment, I thought about letting it ring. But curiosity, no, frustration, got the better of me. I answered it, my voice sharper than before. “Hello?” This time, a voice replied. “Sienna.” The breath I didn’t realize I was holding rushed out of me, but it wasn’t relief. I recognized the voice, it was him. The man I had been working with. “What do you want? Is there any problem?” I asked, pressing the phone to my ear, already irritated. “I’ve got something,” he said, his tone casual, as if this was just business as usual. “Another secret about Lucas. Something big. I could send out a new news flash tonight. What do you say?” I froze. Another secret? T

Chapter 30 Lucas’s POV I couldn’t find anything on that company name. No records, no mentions, nothing. It was as if the email had come from thin air. After spending what felt like hours searching, I finally gave up, convincing myself it was just some prank, someone trying to mess with my head. With everything going on, it wasn’t hard to imagine. Maybe I was overthinking it. The next morning, I dressed for work, hoping for a normal day, one without drama, without complications. It was always one everyday. I needed to focus on the company. When I got to the office, the atmosphere was surprisingly good. People were busy, heads down, working like they had a purpose. For the first time in a while, it felt like things were going smoothly. Ken was standing by his desk, grinning like an idiot. He looked over at me, gave a thumbs-up, and went back to whatever he was doing. I nodded, feeling really good. I started walking toward my office when I heard commotion near the entrance. At

I opened the door expecting to see the delivery guy, but the moment I looked up, my stomach tightened. It wasn’t who I was expecting. The man standing there had the uniform and the delivery bag, but something about him felt wrong, off. His eyes were too focused, too intense, and he didn’t look like someone who was just here to drop off food. “We need to talk. Privately,” he said, his voice low, as he pushed the bag toward me. I froze for a second, my mind racing. “Excuse me?” I managed to say, glancing at Daphne who was still in the room behind me. The man didn’t move, just stood there, watching me carefully. “Not here. Outside.” Daphne, sensing something was off, looked up from the bed. “Mama, where are you going?” I forced a smile, trying to keep my voice light. “Just going to meet a friend for a few minutes, sweetie. I’ll be back soon. Enjoy your food, okay?” Daphne tilted her h

The walls she'd built around her heart were slowly crumbling, and I couldn’t help but feel a sense of relief, and a little fear too. I hurt her more than once, and though I could sense she was falling for me again, I knew I had no right to ask for forgiveness. But I couldn’t help myself. I wanted this. I wanted us again.Today, I wanted to show her just how much I cared. It was a rare thing, this peace, and I wasn’t going to let it slip away. So, I took them both, Sienna and Daphne, out for the day. We spent the morning at a park, just the three of us. No drama, no complications. Daphne was full of energy, running around and laughing, and Sienna… Sienna was more relaxed than I had seen her in a long time. She was smiling, her eyes lighting up every time Daphne pulled her into some new adve

Chapter 159 Sienna’s PovThe atmosphere was with an air of curiosity as Lucas followed me to David's house. I hadn’t expected him to insist on coming along, but he seemed adamant about tying up any loose ends. I agreed, hoping the visit would go smoothly. David was gracious as always, hosted us with a warmth that made me question if he truly was okay with everything that had transpired between Lucas and me. He offered us tea and snacks while Daphne played with some toys he had kept aside for her during our previous visits. As we sat in his cozy living room, chatting about random topics, David raised his glass. “Here’s to new beginnings, Sienna. And to both of you, may you find happiness together.” His toast felt bittersweet, and I could see the faint sadness in his eyes, but he didn’t let it show too much. He spoke with such maturity that I couldn’t help but admire how gracefully he handled everything. Lucas, sensing the sincerity in David’s words, leaned over and shook his

Chapter 158Sienna's PovLiving with Lucas again was nothing like I had expected. Despite the rocky start and all the unresolved tension between us, I found myself slowly letting my guard down. Every time he did something thoughtful, whether it was making breakfast, helping Daphne with her schoolwork, or simply looking at me with those sincere eyes, I felt the walls around my heart crumbling. It was late that night, and Daphne had already gone to bed. I sat on the couch with a glass of wine, scrolling through my phone absentmindedly. Lucas came into the room, his hair slightly damp from a shower. He was wearing a plain T-shirt and sweats, looking relaxed and more like the man I fell in love with years ago. “Still awake?” he asked, sitting down next to me. “Couldn’t sleep,” I admitted. For a moment, we sat in comfortable silence. Then, out of nowhere, Lucas reached for my hand. “Sienna,” he said softly, “thank you for giving me another chance. I don’t deserve it, but I’m going

Chapter 157Sienna's PovI sat on the couch, staring at my phone as if it held all the answers to my chaotic life. Daphne was in her room, probably playing with her toys, completely unaware of how exhausted I felt. Lucas had texted earlier, saying he was taking Daphne for ice cream. A part of me was relieved—Daphne needed time with her father, and I needed time to think. But no amount of solitude seemed to ease the heavy burden pressing on my chest. My life felt like it was spinning out of control. Between Lucas’s attempts to re-enter my life, Ryan’s unexplained departure, and David’s quiet yet persistent care, I felt torn in too many directions. Just as I began to organize my thoughts, the doorbell rang. ---I opened the door cautiously and wasn’t surprised to see David standing there with a warm smile on his face. “Hey,” he said, holding up a small bag. “I brought some snacks. Thought we could talk.” I stepped aside and let him in, trying to muster a smile. “Thanks, David. B

  • The CEO’s Ex-wife Returns    Chapter 156

Chapter 156 Lisa’s PovI couldn’t believe it. I stood outside the grocery store after that humiliating encounter with Lucas and Sienna, trembling with rage. A child. They had a child together. How had I never known? All this time, I’d thought Sienna was just some shadow of Lucas’s past, someone he pitied or felt guilty about. But no, she had a child, a child who was Lucas’s. The thought burned in my chest. He had lied to me, omitted the truth, and now he was playing house with her. I clenched my fists, my nails digging into my palms. Lucas belonged to me. I had stayed with him through everything. I had invested my time, my energy, and even my reputation into him. And now, he was discarding me like I was nothing. I wasn’t going to let Sienna win. The next day, I made my move. I knew that little girl, Daphne, would be going to school. Lucas wasn’t the most punctual, and he had a habit of being distracted by work or other things. It was the perfect opportunity to approach her, t

  • The CEO’s Ex-wife Returns    Chapter 155

Chapter 155 Lucas’s Pov The way Sienna moved around the house, so calm and composed, made me question everything. She wasn’t the fiery woman who used to shout and hurl sharp words at me. She wasn’t the cold, unrelenting ex-wife I had imagined all these years. Instead, this version of Sienna was sweet, calm, and, if I dared to admit, somehow even more beautiful than before. I couldn’t stop staring at her. It wasn’t just her physical beauty, though that certainly hadn’t faded. It was her grace, the way she cared for Daphne, the way her laughter sounded when she thought no one was listening. Everything about her seemed effortless, as though she had finally become the woman she was always meant to be, without me. When I woke up the next morning, the smell of something warm and delicious wafted into the bedroom. I sat up, groggy, only to hear the faint clatter of dishes. Was she… cooking? I quickly got dressed and headed to the kitchen, and there she was, flipping pancakes as

Chapter 154 Sienna’s Pov“Maybe I should give him a chance,” I whispered to myself while brushing Daphne’s hair in front of the mirror. It wasn’t like I wanted Lucas back in the romantic sense, at least not entirely. But I couldn’t deny how hard he was trying. For Daphne, for me… for us. The thought unsettled me because it forced me to confront my emotions, which I preferred to keep locked away. But as I prepared to make things easier for Lucas, the thought of David and Uncle Max made my stomach churn. Both of them had been acting like hypocrites, constantly preaching about what was best for me while putting me in complicated positions. It was frustrating and exhausting. I couldn’t stand it anymore. “Daphne, sweetie, do you want to help Mommy make breakfast?” I asked, trying to shake off the lingering negativity. “No, I want Daddy to make it!” she exclaimed cheerfully. I smiled at her enthusiasm and nodded. “Alright, go tell him then.” After seeing Lucas interact with Daphn

Chapter 153Lucas's PovI sat across from Jenny at a quiet café, my coffee untouched as I poured out my frustrations. “I just don’t understand what’s going on,” I said, gripping the edge of the table. “My uncle is getting way too involved with Sienna, and it’s driving me crazy. And Sienna, she’s avoiding me no matter how hard I try to get through to her.” Jenny leaned back in her chair, her eyes thoughtful as she sipped her tea. “Lucas, have you considered that maybe you’re trying too hard? She might need some space to figure things out.” “I can’t just stand by while my uncle pushes his way into her life,” I countered. “It’s not right. He’s supposed to be family, but it feels like he’s competing with me.” Jenny set her cup down and gave me a soft smile. “Here’s what I think. Stop forcing it. Let her come to you on her own terms. Show her that you’ve changed, but don’t pressure her. She’ll notice the difference and reach out when she’s ready.” I frowned, unsure. “And what if

She moved back slightly, her usual guarded demeanor in place. It didn’t matter, though. I smiled at her, genuinely grateful she had shown up. “Thank you for coming,” I said softly, my voice filled with relief. She folded her arms and tilted her head. “I had to,” she said matter-of-factly. “Daphne deserves the best care, and I need to ensure that.” Her words stung slightly. I wanted to believe her presence meant more than just Daphne, but I couldn’t argue with her. I let it go and motioned for her to sit. We settled down to eat. The table was quiet at first, but I couldn’t let the silence stretch any longer. This was my chance to make things right, and I wasn’t going to waste it. “I need to ask you something,” I began, trying to keep my voice steady. “Would you let me take full responsibility for Daphn
