Roman unlocked the door and then opened it for Evelyn to walk in first. She hesitated on the threshold. He could see it written all over her face how much she didn’t want to be here. This was the same place she had left in the middle of the night after spending a whole weekend hiding away from him in fear.
He should have thought of that. Maybe this place held more bad memories than good. They could drive to his apartment instead if she really wanted to.
“Do you want to go to my apartment in the city?”
It would be too noisy and busy, and they wouldn’t be able to go outside. But if she wanted to he would have to do it. It would just add a few more extra steps to the plan, the one he had already almost obliterated by telling that girl to reveal Eve
Evelyn sat on the sofa with her feet up after dinner scrolling on her phone. The stories of her and Roman leaving their 'love nest' together were already making the rounds. She had only been reading the headlines because she didn't want to know what people were saying about her.The last time Roman's name had been mentioned so much he had been with Vivian Cartwright when they’d worn their matching outfit and everyone thought they made a perfect couple. She didn't want to read any comparisons or be called the homewrecker. But now her fingers were itching to click on the story Pam had sold. They weren't close but she had assumed she could trust her. Why had she sold her out like this? Turning her whole life upside down just for a few quid?Roman walked into t
They needed to talk. To clear the air because clearly he wasn’t over this Brendan shit and Evelyn was still very angry. This was the perfect opportunity to start talking and finally fix things. But damned if he could think now. He had been hard as a rock the moment Evelyn had started kissing him but when she whispered those words his whole body had reacted. Heat rushed through his veins as the anticipation of taking her to the playroom made it hard to think about anything else. Like all his blood flowed from his brain to his dick and nothing else mattered except doing what Evelyn wanted. He didn’t wait for her to tell him again because this was something he had been hoping for, even though he hadn’t im
Roman thought about her words only when he surfaced on Sunday morning. Last night had been intense, even for them. Like she had a lot of anger she needed to work out. He looked down at the woman still asleep in his arms and kissed her forehead. They couldn't put off the conversation any longer, not if she was still thinking of leaving him. He'd done too much and sacrificed a lot, even his integrity, to have her right where she was now. He had to tell her how he felt if he was to have a chance. And he was still terrified at the thought of it. He hadn’t expected to get that angry when she had mentioned Brendan’s name. He knew they hadn’t had any contact at all since she had left London, and t
Eve smoothed out her dress and looked at Roman. He was driving the car that he had tried to give her before she’d left him. His hands gripped the steering wheel firmly and he had designer sunglasses on to protect his eyes from the glare of the sun.He looked like a movie star. Like someone she shouldn't be sitting next to, never mind sleeping in the same bed.She had no idea what to make of the things he had said to her. It seemed like he wanted to be in a proper relationship with her but she didn’t want to just assume things. But how could he say she was the most important person in his life when he had treated her like a prostitute? When he had laughed in her face when she’d told him how she felt? The only thing he had given of himself was sex
Roman accepted the cup of tea that had been poured for him and then looked over at Evelyn. She looked uncomfortable, and frankly, so did he. He’d given his dad plenty of warning so Esther would at least look decent. He should have known better. But he’d had to bring her here despite his reluctance. Evelyn needed to know him, the real him. The good, the bad and the ugly. And there was nothing uglier than his family and all the damage that had caused.Meeting his father was a good starting point. It was a serious step in all relationships so she had to know he was serious. And hopefully, this would also pave the way for them to start having real conversations.Maybe about his abandonment issues and trust issues.
Eve washed her hands after freshening up and looked at herself in the mirror. Her face still looked flushed and it wasn’t from the cold. She couldn’t believe she had done that. Having sex outside was just so... common. She doubted Roman’s girl... Vivian would have done anything like that. Roman’s stepmom was right. She couldn’t bear to look at herself any longer so she concentrated on washing her hands and then drying them. When there was nothing else to keep her in the bathroom any longer, she walked to the door and took a deep breath to prepare herself. She didn't want to go back into that room with Esther. When Roman had worried about his stepmother almost miscarrying, th
Roman looked outside his window and when he looked back at her, she felt like the moment had passed. To show her he what? He was sorry? He loved her? That last one had her mentally laughing at herself as she went back to their conversation. She had to stop doing this to herself. So he thought they could stop having sex while in the same house? And then what would they do? Play card games?"I don't know how I feel about us sleeping together again, but I know we’ll keep doing it," she admitted. "You've been good to me and I'm very grateful for what you've done for my parents but I guess... I guess seeing your family and hearing what they think of me just hammered in the fact that we’re from different
Roman had pulled off deals in his life that had seemed impossible to others. He’d made risky calls that would have cost him everything if he’d lost. He’d sat across negotiating tables with men who ran the world and still left them in his dust. Not that he was a gambling man. Every business move he made was calculated, and he always made sure he could win, even with the risks. But none of those situations had been as terrifying as this.He adjusted the vase full of flowers on the table and then stepped back to inspect it. It still didn’t look right. Everything had to be perfect. He couldn’t control the outcome of the conversation but he could control this.He picked it up and moved it to the other end of the table, and then realised it would be t
