Sarah couldn't find the courage to meet Oliver again and tell him that she didn't want to go out with him anymore. Things had ended so well the night they went on a date, that she didn't know how to explain to him that she changed her mind.

Benjamin would ask her to go to the park, but every time, she'd come up with a lie not to take him, in the risk of meeting Oliver there with Chad.

In the meantime, she was on cloud nine with her recent relationship with Victor. It was hard to keep it a secret from everyone else, especially since the mansion was always so crowded with servants, and there was also Benjamin.

Sarah was with the kid most of the time, and she couldn't find a good moment to meet Victor without anyone else looking, except late at night.

She was getting tired from going to sleep late and waking up so early, but it was worth it. Anything to spend some time with the man she was in love with. Victor was also coming home earlier just to be in the same place as her, even though t

Sarah could feel and hear the turmoil around her, but for a few minutes, she couldn't react. Only when she heard Edward's weak voice coming from behind her, that she got back to reality."Sarah, we need to go back and let Mr. Reed know about this." She turned her head to see the man coming towards her covered with blood and bruises, his hand holding his ribs, with a painful expression on his face. She rushed to help him, putting his free arm around her shoulder, and gathered strength to lift him up and walk him to the car.The man clearly couldn't drive, so she would have to do it herself. But before that, she had to put her thoughts in place. Her whole body was shivering inside, her hands shook aggressively and she could barely keep them on the steering wheel. She had to call the police, although she assumed that other people probably already had done that. At least she hoped, since they didn't do anything to help when Ben was taken. She couldn't stop thinking about Benjamin and also

It was an understatement to say that Sarah didn't sleep that night. No one at the mansion had. After Victor told her to get out of his office, she wandered around the mansion, trying to think of anything that could help the police to find Benjamin. The officers came a few minutes later, and Victor went downstairs to talk to them. Eventually, they called Sarah to report to them what happened and they also went to the hospital to talk to Edward and take his testimony. The policemen assured Mr. Reed they would do everything they could, and the staff at the mansion was guided not to give any information to the outside world, even though the news were probably all over the internet by now. But Victor didn't want any press outside his house, so he told them to call the police if anyone was seen trying to watch the movement inside the mansion. They waited the whole night for a call or anything that could tell them that Benjamin was fine, but nothing happened. "Oh, my God," she whispered in shock. "Victor, he has a gun.""I know," he replied."Shut up, you two!" the man yelled, the flashlight beam shaking a bit as his arm moved in exasperation."She was only asking me why your buddy is taking too long," Victor explained."I don't care what she's asking. She shouldn't even be here in the first place." "Don't tell me you are afraid of a defenseless woman," Victor sneered. Sarah wanted to tell him to shut up. It wasn't a good idea to provoke the man that had Benjamin hostage.Sarah saw the gunman narrowing his eyes."Why don't we make a different agreement then?" he asked. "You take the boy, who seems to be very precious to you, and aside from the money, you leave the girl with us as well."Sarah felt Victor's body tense by her side, his hands closing in tight fists."Keep dreaming," he murmured. "That's not the deal we made, so rush your friend so we can end this thing at once." The man called Ace finally appeared again with a tiny figure by

Whatever the doctor said after that, Victor didn't listen. He stopped listening when he mentioned the word 'coma'. Victor had been through that before with his brother. The doctors tried to save him for a while, before he also went into a coma for a few days. And then Victor simply got the news that Theo didn't survive. His world fell apart. "What did you just say?" Victor asked, his voice failing."Sarah. Do you know this woman?" James repeated.Victor gulped and blinked a few times, trying to make sense of what he had just heard. That was not possible. Sarah would never do something like that. In fact, she was lying on a bed in a coma, trying to fight for her life. There was no way she was behind it.She would never hurt Benjamin or put his life at stake. She wasn't that type of person, and Victor was well aware of that. Whatever that meant, he knew it wasn't true. But at the same time, she insisted that he took her with him for the rescue mission. Did she know anything? Maybe she could be planning on doing something to make sure that the plan went smoothly like she wanted. What was he thinking? Victor shook his head, trying to prevent those thoughts from going any further. How could he possibly suspect her? He knew her, he knew her heart."What else did they say? Did they have any proof?" he continued, looking at the g

What the f*ck is Alana doing here? Victor thought. He never expected to see that woman again, especially not in his own house. He had broken up with her a while ago and told her to stop going after him. And now there she was again. "Carter, stay here with Ben, please," he ordered. "I'll be right back." Victor left the room in a rush, firm steps echoing as he walked downstairs. It was almost as if he could see his nostrils expel smoke of anger. He met the woman waiting for him patiently in the living room, seated on the couch and sipping tea from a cup as if she owned the place."What are you doing here?" he spat as soon as he entered the room.Alana put her cup on the table and got up from the couch, gesturing and moving in an overreacted and distressed way."Oh, God… Victor. I was so worried," she said as she tossed her arms around him and hugged him. "I heard about what happened. I was abroad and when I heard the news, I came back running to see you. I-"Victor grabbed her hands beh

When Sarah opened her eyes, the brightness of that white room blinded her for a few seconds. She had no idea where she was and what had happened, but a heavy pain on her chest made her gasp for air. It was like her whole body had been beaten up and, what were all of those wires attached to her? She reached her nose with her hand, trying to take everything out, but another hand grabbed hers before she could reach it."Calm down, Miss Johnson. I'll do that for you. Just make sure to be calm. Everything's fine. You're at the hospital, but you're out of danger now," the woman explained, taking off the nasal thing from her face.Hospital? Sarah frowned. Her throat was too dry and also a bit sore to talk, so she only muttered to the nurse to get her some water first. The woman handed her a glass and she drank it up."Why am I here? What happened?"And then the woman explained everything that had happened while the memories came back as a wrecking ball inside Sarah's mind. She got shot tryi

It was a very cold winter's night, and Sarah was finishing writing her new trilogy book. A few years had passed since she started in this business. After working at the publishing company for years, they finally offered her a chance to try writing her own story, and she found herself doing something she never thought of. And surprisingly, she had a talent for it.Since then, her books had been doing very well, and the last one had become a New York Times best seller, which almost made her fall from her chair when she heard the news. She couldn't complain about what her life had become. If someone had told her that she would, one day, be working at home, taking care of her kids and being incredibly happy about it, she wouldn't believe them. She finally felt complete, happy, accomplished. The incident with Alana would eventually come back to her mind, but she would remind herself that the woman was now far away from them, inside a prison, unable to harm anyone else, especially her family

After a few months, Sarah had finally finished her last college semester. Victor had done everything he promised to do, and she was able to finish everything and even got an internship in one of his friend's company, on her own account especially. Of course they all learned who she was after she got in, but just the fact that she got inside on her own was enough for her.Victor had asked Camila if she wanted to take in the position of Ben's nanny, and the woman gladly accepted. She was already tired of just being a servant, and being his nanny was a much more pleasant chore for sure.Everyone in the mansion was more than used to the idea of Sarah being the new mistress, although she had forbidden them to treat her any differently. She hated those hierarchy rules and she didn't want to continue that inside the mansion, unless Victor objected. But since he had given her all the freedom and authority to do whatever she wanted in the house, she asked the servants to treat her the same way.

After that night, things at the mansion started to get back to normal. Victor had advised the investigative team to gather all the proof they had against Alana so he could take it to the police and do what was necessary for her to pay for what she had done.He had also intensified the security at the mansion and around his family, so things wouldn't get out of his control again. He didn't want to be the type of person that was always surrounded by bodyguards, but he thought it was something he had to learn to deal with from now on. Sarah had also convinced him that Benjamin could go to school, one that had very good references and that took the education and safety of their students seriously. The kid was always accompanied by the bodyguards who would wait for him outside of the building until time of departure. Victor wasn't very sure of this at first, but after seeing how Benjamin's eyes glowed in excitement only by the mention of it, he decided to give it a try. Sarah had advised

Sarah didn't react. She didn't know how. Was she surprised? Was she shocked? It was hard to say. "What?" she managed to ask, but her voice came out as a squeal."That… That… I don't even know what to call her," Victor said, furiously. "I just want to kill her right now. That's all I can think of."Sarah blinked."You don't mean that.""I do." He looked right into her eyes and she knew he was saying the truth. He really had the intention of making justice with his own hands."Victor, you are not this type of person. How could you possibly think of doing something like this?" she asked, her hand shaking with fear. "Can you imagine how I'm feeling, Sarah? If I hadn't put that woman inside my house, in my life, none of this would have happened. We wouldn't have lived that nightmare and we wouldn't have… I wouldn't have…"Victor was struggling to find the words to express himself, but she knew what he wanted to say. They wouldn't have fought and broken up. He released himself from her gr

Sarah was in the living room that night playing puzzles with Benjamin. That had become one of their habits during her time as a nanny and she loved it. "You're getting better at this, Ben. Well done! You'll get faster than me in a while," she remarked, making the kid smile with pride."My daddy always played this with me," he said, sadness taking over his face. "Now he doesn't spend time with me anymore.""Don't say that, Ben. He's busy with work, but he's always trying to spend some time with you. It's just that… It's hard to be a grown up sometimes, you know? We don't have much time to do nice stuff like play with puzzles and watch a movie.""Why not?" "Because work gets in the way, and we also have more problems than when we were kids," she explained. "Sometimes we wish we could be kids again, you know that?""Well, I want to grow up soon," he replied. "You will change your mind once you get to my age. It's not that fun anymore. You'll see," Sarah smiled and got back to the piece

  • The CEO's Babysitter   Chapter 45: Closure

Victor was in his office at the company building since very early in the morning, trying to focus on a contract of nearly a hundred pages. His vision was getting blurry and not even several cups of coffee helped him to stay wide awake. His nights had been terrible ever since his fight with Sarah, and the fact that the investigation wasn't getting anywhere was also making him worried sick. He couldn't sleep knowing that whoever was trying to harm his family was still out there, in the shadows, probably planning their next move, while Victor was in the dark, knowing nothing. That made him frustrated and pissed off. He wasn't used to being the person out of control. If being a CEO taught him anything, it was that he liked to be in control of everything, and not being aware of the real danger lurking around made him uneasy."Mr. Reed, can I confirm your meeting with Mr. Flynn after lunch?" his secretary had asked him during some time in the morning. He remembered nodding to confirm, but h

  • The CEO's Babysitter   Chapter 44: Strangers

The next few days had been the worst Sarah ever remembered experiencing in the mansion, besides the day she spent worrying about Benjamin when he was kidnapped. Not even when she first started working for Victor it had been so bad like now. After their argument, Sarah barely saw the man, and when she did, which was rare, he made sure to completely ignore her presence. He didn't even look at her direction, like she was invisible. And every time that happened, her heart shrunk to the size of a peanut. How was she supposed to move on, to forget her love for him if she had to see him every day?She also wasn't sure of what he meant by "taking a break". Was he suggesting that they only needed some time apart to make the anger go away? Or did he just not have the courage to break up with her? It was also impossible for Sarah to find some time to talk to him and apologize for her behavior if he didn't allow her to. On top of that, she still had the whole issue with Benjamin's kidnapping in h

After Victor left her "new" room, Sarah didn't know what to do. She felt like being alone, but knowing he was so close by the next door, yet so far, made her feel sick to her stomach. She just wanted to leave that house now and suffer by herself, without having to face him the next day.At this moment, her future was a blur. She couldn't imagine how she would manage to continue working there without Victor. But at the same time, she knew she couldn't simply abandon Benjamin. Her heart would break for good if she did that. More broken than it already was.She couldn't sleep there that night. And a sudden urge made her decide to rush downstairs and look for Camila. She was the only person that could hear her now without any judgments. At least, she hoped. She couldn't let her insecurities take over her anymore. She couldn't assume that everyone thought badly of her. When did she start to think that everyone hated her and saw her with ugly eyes like that? What had changed? She knocked sl

Victor stared at the door for a few minutes until he realized how wrong he was for telling those things to Sarah. She misunderstood him completely because he was so full of jealousy and couldn't express himself correctly. He didn't even want to tell her about it in the first place. He had promised himself not to mention that until the case was closed and he had found the real culprit. He never doubted her for a second, but seeing her with that man made his primitive and irrational thoughts burst out.It was true he didn't trust the man, he didn't even know him. As far as he was concerned, anyone could be behind the kidnapping. He was more than used to people doing things to attack him, so it wouldn't be the first time. And Sarah knew about his insecurities regarding that, so why couldn't she be a bit more understanding? He stormed out of the living room and followed her to her bedroom, opening the door without even knocking. She was lying on the bed and jumped out of fear after his in
