Kenji wanted to believe that Kieran was bluffing. That he wouldn’t call the police on him. They were breaking no laws; the park’s land was across the street. They were just in front of an empty lot. No owner’s, just a for sale sign at his back. “Listen, my sister and came to apologize. I would much rather apologize to her versus apologizing to the guy the punched me. Seems you’re not as strong as you think if you broke your wrist.”
That pissed Kieran off. He went to grab for him but Kenji stepped out of his direct reach. “If you want to apologize to her, here I’ll call her and you can do it that way.”
“Haven’t you ever heard that an apology should be done face to face when possible? I know she’s in the car so just let me go to her.”
He didn’t like the logic that Kenji made but if he was going to show her that he can keep his jealousy in check then it was better this way. “F
Kieran sat on the opposite seat from Emma Jean. She looked out the window thinking. Kenji didn’t have to apologize to her, he could have done everything he could to milk the situation. Could have kept the lie going even if she refused to admit it. She was beginning to wonder if he was a decent guy. Her radar had always been wrong when it came to certain guys maybe this time it wasn’t so bad. Kieran watched her, seeing her eyebrows wiggle and change every few minutes. He had an inkling of what she was thinking about. He didn’t like it, at all. He wanted to get her mind off that bozo and onto him. “EJ, when was the last time you actually wore a dress? Feels like it’s been since our senior homecoming.” She rested her hand against between her shoulder and chin. “It couldn’t have been that long. I distinctly remember wearing a dress as recently as last year.” “I never seen it.” “Maybe it was when I went on a date.” He gave her a face. “You haven’t
The woman motioned for her to slowly turn around. She continued to inspect Emma jean. She placed her hand against her lip, thinking. “One more turn but can you undress down to your skivvies dear. That suit isn’t fitted to you correctly. I have a friend that can tailor make some outfits for you.” She couldn’t believe a strange woman was asking her to strip down. But knew it would be better to have something that would fit her better than sloppily. “Can you leave out of the room then? I don’t feel comfortable doing that in front of someone.” “I’ll turn my back. It’s perfectly normal if your underwear don’t match either. We have a lingerie shop that we can also get you some very cute sets.” She turned around to give her the semi privacy she asked for. “So, tell me dear, how long has it been?” Emma jean was in the middle of stripping down when she was asked that question. “How long has what been?” She peeked over her shoulders to see Emma jean bending ove
Kenji made up his mind to talk to her and explain. If she decided after that, there was no need for another date he would accept it. He sent her a message. “[Can we meet?] Emma Jean was just heading into the lingerie shop just a few minutes from the dress shop. Kieran had picked the right location; everything was within walking distance. She felt her phone buzz in her handbag. When she removed it, a preview on the screen showed who it was from. She wasn’t going to send a message back but thought better of it. [I’m busy at the moment. What is it?] [I’d like to talk to you in person. It’s important.] She looked at the message and thought what could possibly be so important. [Fine. Meet me here at xx location.] She sent off the address of where she was going to be. Kenji remembered where that place was, it caused a small pain in his chest. She really was from a different world than he was. [can we meet at a restaurant? Don’t feel comfortable going in a l
Kenji made it to the high-end shops. He seen the café that Emma jean wanted to meet at. He sent her a message just outside the door. [I’m here. Do you want me to order for you?] Emma Jean was just about to pay for the lingerie she had bought. Everything the woman had brought to her made her feel as if she were made of a million dollars. She ended up buying them all. Her phone buzzed. Figuring it was Kenji she pulled out her phone along with her credit card. Handing her card over to the cashier she read his message. [Just a green tea will be fine. And an orange scone.] Kenji had just reached the front of the line when he seen her message. “A green tea with an orange scone. I’ll have a mocha Frappuccino.” The young lady proceeded to ring up his order. “That will be twenty-five, thirteen.” His face frowned at the cost for two drinks. He was about to say something when he remembered where he was. He took out the cash to hand to her. “Here you go.”
She pulled her wrist out of his grasp. She couldn’t help but laugh at his absurd remark. “Date you? The man that was going to ruin my daddy? Not a chance in hell.” “Wait, I never said I was going to ruin your father.” “Oh, you didn’t? please enlighten me.” She stood there glaring at him, daring him to continue. “I was going to get my revenge by ruining you and his legacy.” He stood up to talk to her. Emma Jean stepped back, he towered over her. “There’s nothing else you need to say. I’m leaving.” “Just listen to me. do you have any idea how expensive it is to go to your park? He didn’t just blackball me. He killed my dream. Of course, I wanted revenge on the man that did it. then I heard he died. I gave me a small amount of satisfaction but I wasn’t happy. I wanted him, you, to understand how it feels to have everything taken away from you. Do you get that?” He reached out grabbing her shoulders in a fit. “My family had to save up for a few ye
The light turned green and the man ran back to the sidewalk with gratitude. Emma Jean watched him, curious about why he did that. “Aren’t you worried that he will use it to buy drugs or alcohol?” Without missing a beat, he answered. “Not at all. What he does with it is his choice. I gave because I don’t know his story so it’s not my place to judge him.” She bit the bottom of her lip. Slowly she was coming to terms about the world she grew up in and the world around her. The two didn’t seem so far away anymore. Kenji kept glancing back at her to see how she was doing. He could see the wrinkle in her brow. A few minutes they arrived in front of brick building. It was a few stories high. Kenji got out of the car and went to open the door for Emma Jean. She looked at him skeptically. “Come with me.” “What is this place?” She looked around seeing the signs of wear on the building. Her first thoughts were to assume he wanted to hurt her. But a little kid ca
Mrs. Jackson turned around and hobbled out of the foyer. “Come on it’s time to prepare dinner. We’re gonna put you to work.” Emma jean followed behind her but could feel the eyes of the women on her. It felt as if they held animosity towards her. Kenji took that chance to try and slip out to play with the children. Mrs. Jackson was a smart woman. She called out to Kenji. “Come help lift these boxes for me. We have a lot to make. The men’s homeless shelter is having a hard time with funding. They barely have enough for food and supplies.” Hearing that Emma Jean wanted to do more for them. Kenji inwardly groaned, his plan to help both shelters was slipping through his fingers. He plastered on a smile. “Anything for you Mrs. Jackson. Put me to work.” Emma Jean and the other women were packed tightly in the modest kitchen. It wasn’t just the outside in shambles, the inside of the building showed it’s age. Something more should be done to help them outside of givi
Kenji had went searching for her, to find her in the living room on a call. He could only hear her side of the conversation but he already knew who it was she as on the phone with. He leaned against the door frame with his arms over his chest when he spoke to her. “Sounds like this was a good idea.” She turned to see him there, her hand went to her chest feeling how rapidly her heart was beating. “You scared me.” “Well, you did sneak off and haven’t helped in the kitchen.” “I wasn’t going to be gone for long.” “Yeah, but it would seem your call lasted longer than you thought it would. Did you mean what you said?” “You heard that? All if it?” “Just your side and only from when you said you wanted to open the park for free on the day of the gala.” “Sounds like you heard almost all of it.” “I didn’t if I’m being truthful. What made you decided to do that?” She scratched the back of her head. “Hearing how hard you’v

Emma Jean stood there with her hands covering her mouth. Tears we’re streaming down her eyes. She was in shock, words failed her at that moment. She could only nod her head yes. “You will?” She finally found her voice. “Yes! Don’t be ridiculous.” Kenji picked her up, spinning her around. “You have no idea how happy that makes me.” He peppered her face in kisses. “Come with me.” He put her down on the porch. Rummaging through his pants pocket he pulled out the keys to the house. He headed straight to unlock the door. When he looked at her, she was confused. A tiny smile formed on his lips. “What’s this?” “Just follow me. I promise it’ll be worth your while.” He took her hand and lead her up the stairs. The sound of their footsteps echoed in the unfurnished house. They reached the top of the steps. Kenji took her to the master bedroom. There he opened the door and stood just at the entrance. Inside, were Sandra and Rowan holding a dress
Emma Jean looked in the rearview mirror to see his head disappeared. She got concerned and was about to get out of the car when he stood back up. She placed her hand to her chest and breathed. When he got in the car, she turned to him. “You nearly gave me a heart attack?”He looked puzzled for a moment then realized what she was referring to. “I didn’t disappear or felt ill. Just needed to tie my shoes is all. Is this your way of saying you love me more than air?”She turned away from him, folding her arms over her chest. “I didn’t say that.”“You’re so cute when you pout.”“You'll be cute with a swollen lip?”Kenji started the car. And sounded overly cheerful. “Does that mean your going to kiss me until they are swollen from your love?”Emma Jean couldn’t say anything back after that. She just decided to be quiet and enjoy the ride. Kenji knew what she really meant but nothing could bring him down. He had a plan to give her the romantic proposal she woul
Six months had past since that incident with Shannon. Emma Jean had been sitting in her office working on plans for the parks new attraction while also watching a rough cut of a new movie the company had started to work on. A knock came from her door causing her to look up. She smiled when he entered the office. “What are you doing here?” Kenji was dressed up in a suit and carrying a mixed bouquet. Roses, carnations, lilies, daisies, and baby’s breath were wrapped in an elegant purple paper. “I came to see the most beautiful woman in the world.” She smiled at him and looked down at her swollen belly. “You only say that because I’m pregnant and hormonal. You’re trying to appease me first thing.” He handed her the flowers then stole a kiss from her lips. “Not at all. I really believe you are the most beautiful woman in the world. And you are all mines.” She took the flowers and placed them on her desk. She smiled while looking at him. She couldn
Emma jean had hoped that would keep her occupied long enough to get out of the house safely so the police could handle her but as soon as she reached the door to turn it a shot rang close to her ear. She looked to see a bullet hole in the corner of the door’s hinges. She turned around to see Shannon barely standing. She sent a silent prayer up to her daddy for making sure she had a learned some defensive moves. “That was the last bullet in the chamber you know.”Shannon held the gun up weakly while still holding onto her stomach. “You think I didn’t load the bullets back in the chamber? You would be stupid if you thought otherwise.”Emma jean looked from the door handle to Shannon. Her eyes were slightly narrowed as she raised her eyebrows. “You wouldn’t have had enough time to load them.”“You want to test that theory?” She stood up straighter an pointed the gun towards her.“So you&
Detective Hanson sighed. This wasn’t an ideal hostage situation but nothing is ideal when you have mentally disturbed people involved. He scratched his head with free hand. “Ok, so you’ll let his parents and Emma Jean go?” Emma jean answered for herself. “No, Kenji needs to reject me in front of her. I have to stay. Just worry about his parents and not about me.” “Yes, she understands the situation so don’t get in our way. Once he tells me he loves me and not her then we can all end this as peacefully as we can. Don’t try anything funny.” Detective Hanson gulped knowing what the end result would be. “We won’t. I’m sending someone in now.” He motioned for one of his men to go forward unarmed to get the couple. The man knocked on the door and opened it. He walked into seeing Emma Jean being held with a gun to her head. Her hands were balled into a fist. He thought he seen something but shook his head. Shannon motioned to the kitchen. “Hurry and
Shannon angled her head to the left. Her eyebrow was arched. “Did you just threaten me?” Her voice raised with each word. He realized just a bit too late that he fucked up. “Shannon, no I didn’t threaten you. I just want my dad to be there for when we get married. You don’t have any family, do you? Wouldn’t you want him to walk you down the aisle?” He was hoping that would make her think logically about it. “Oh, you’re right. I want to be as close to my in laws to the point where they think of me as the daughter they never had.” She raised the gun to her lips while smiling. “But you did threaten me so you need to be punished.” She raised her hand in the air that wielded the gun and struck him across the side of his face. Kenji crumpled to the ground. She hit him hard enough to be knocked unconscious. Sandra screamed. “Kenji? Kenji? Wake up honey please?” “Oh, shut up mom. He’s fine you shouldn’t worry so much.” She took the bandana that she was holdin
Kenji stepped in front of Emma Jean. He put himself in front of Shannon to keep her from firing. He wanted to know where his parents were. “Shannon? Where are my parents?”“Aww you’re more concerned about them than that little bitch. Then maybe you should move out of the way so that I can just end her miserable life.”Emma Jean wanted to say something but knew that it would only aggravate her even more. Kenji shook his head. “No, we’re talking about my parents. What did you do with them? I know you wouldn’t hurt them.”“Of course, I wouldn’t. Unless they said something so disgusting as that thing being their daughter in law over me. Tell me the truth you don’t love her. You can’t see yourself with her?”Emma Jean gently tugged on his shirt trying to get his attention. Wanting to tell him it was ok if he diminished his feelings for her to calm Shannon down. Kenji may have u
They were in the middle of their second movie when the storm seemed to ease enough for them to head back to his parents place. The two of them looked at each other. It was silent except for the sounds of the movie playing in the background. Emma Jean was about to say something when Kenji received a message from an unknown number.[Your parents are really nice.] a picture was attached with the back of his parents in the frame showing.Kenji bolted right up. Not sure who it was or who was in his house. He sent a reply back. [Who is this?] He started to call his mom first. It rang several times before going to voicemail. He tried the house phone it made a loud screeching sound signaling it was off the hook. He tried his mothers cell again. Nothing.Emma Jean looked at him worriedly. “What’s going on? You look panicked?”Before he could answer another text came in. [its just your soulmate. Your parents think im the better match for you now.
