“Yes... I... I’m okay,” Luisa stammered, which made Alden finally realize the strangeness of his behavior.

He instantly let go of her face, took a few steps back, and cleared his throat. “I’m sorry. I know you don’t want me getting close to you. I shouldn’t have touched you like that.”

An awkward silence ensued as they both stared down at the ground before Luisa mustered the courage to speak. “I... Thank you. For saving me from Victor.”

“I did not ‘save’ you. I just helped you out with the bastard. No need to thank me,” he said, trying to downplay the magnitude of the help he’d given her.

Luisa shook her head. “No, I have to thank you. If you hadn’t arrived, he would’ve probably taken me away because I’m so weak and–“

“Hey, no. Don’t say that,” Alden quickly cut her off. He felt an overwhelming urge to hold her and assure her, but he managed to stop himself. Just barely. What was wrong with him?

“You’re not weak, Luisa. He’s a man, and you’re a woman, so he naturally has m

In the car, Luisa and Thalassa had been driving in silence for some minutes before Thalassa asked, “So how are you feeling?” Luisa briefly looked at her before focusing on the road. “Don’t worry, I’m fine. Victor didn’t hurt me.” “I don’t mean physically,” Lassa said tentatively. “Luisa, I know just how much you loved Victor, so that’s why I’m wondering.” “Love? Did I truly love him?” Luisa smiled bitterly. “I think I was just in love with the idea of him. Brandon treated me like a princess but then he hurt me so much, so when I met Victor and he seemed so cool, I thought it would be different. Maybe they’re not the problem. Maybe it’s me.” “No, don’t blame yourself, Luisa,” Thalassa said and sighed. “By the way, what was Alden talking about when he said that he knows you don’t want him close to you?” Luisa winced as she responded. “The last time he came with Kris to the company, he tried to strike up a conversation with me but I was rude to him.” Remembering how she’d spo

“How long have you been working for Thalassa Thompson?” Millie froze, her heart pounding in her chest. This was the last thing she had expected Kris to ask her. She was so dumbstruck that she couldn’t speak for a full minute. Kris leaned back in his swivel chair, forming a steeple with his hands. “You might not be talkative, Millicent, but I know you’re not this quiet. I expect you to say something.” His expression was neither cold nor warm. It was just cool, making Millie feel even more nervous because she couldn’t guess what was going through his head. “Tha... Thalassa Thompson? Who...” she stammered. Kris’s eyes darkened. “I hope you’re not going to deny it, Millicent. My mother and I talked in your presence about going to the charity function. My family didn’t tell anyone else, but Thalassa came to that function knowing we were going to be there. The only person who could’ve told her is you, so I want the truth. How long have you known her?” Seeing how sure Kris looked

After walking out of Kris’s office, Millie sat at her desk, feeling more anxious than she had in a long time. This was definitely not how she’d expected the day to go.Yes, she knew that eventually, her relationship with Thalassa would have to come to light, but she’d hoped it would be after Kris finally realized the truth about his mother and his wife.It suddenly occurred to her that she had to let Thalassa know. Picking up her phone, she dialed her friend’s number, anxiously tapping her finger on her lap as she waited for the call to be answered.“Hey, Millie. Good to hear from you. How are you doing?” Thalassa spoke from the other end. “Not fine. Thalassa, I’m in trouble.”“Why? What happened?” Thalassa questioned, her voice filled with concern.“He knows,” Millie said, lowering her voice to just a little over a whisper.“Who knows what?”“Kris. He knows that I’ve been helping you all this time.”Silence ensued for a couple of seconds until Thalassa spoke again. “How did he find

Thalassa raised an eyebrow. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”Kris took some steps forward toward her desk. “Don’t pretend. I’m sure Millicent must’ve already called to tell you what we talked about.”He pursed his lips into a grim line before speaking again. “You told me that you and Zeke Mathews were lovers. You even made me believe that he could’ve been the father of the child you lost.”A cold smile curved Thalassa’s lips. “Did I? Did I really say those things to you?” She let out a snort. “It was you, Kris. It was you who came here with your guns blazing, throwing all sorts of accusations at me.”“You didn’t deny any of them,” Kris said accusingly.“Because I had no need to,” Thalassa stated calmly. “You see, your opinion of me is as worthless as you are to me.”Her words stung, but Kris managed to keep a straight face. “So you would rather I continue thinking the worst of you than to tell me the truth.”“No, I would rather you finally understood that I don’t give a flyin

Thalassa felt shock ripple through her as she stared at the picture on the phone screen. It was a picture of a woman who looked like her, sitting naked on top of another man, and they appeared to be having sex. Yes, a woman who looked like her, because there was no way in hell the woman in the photo was her, even though the woman had the same hairstyle she'd had four years ago. Kris flipped to another photo, then another, then another. Thalassa could only stare at the screen in shock. There were five photos in total, and they all seemed to have been taken from a hidden spot. “What happened now? Cat got your tongue?" Kris questioned. “You can't deny it any longer, can you?” “Those photos are fake!” Thalassa hissed, her voice trembling with a mix of disbelief and fury. “I don't know that man, and I definitely didn't sleep with anyone the night before our wedding!” “I had them all verified myself!" Kris shot back. “Do you know how badly I wanted it all to be a lie or a mistake? I ref

Karen’s heart skipped a beat, wondering why he was bringing this up after so many years. She could only think of one reason.Immediately, she put on a mask of confusion to hide her nervousness. “Excuse me?”“You heard me,” Kris insisted, his gaze uncompromising and demanding.“Did you finally show those pictures to Thalassa? What did she say? She claimed that they were fake, didn’t she?” Karen snapped. “And you believed her?”“What she told me doesn’t matter,” Kris ground out. “Just answer the damn question.”“I don’t like how you’re talking to me, Kris. Let’s talk later when you’re calmer,” she said, attempting to sit back down at the dresser, but Kris grabbed her by the arm.“You’re not going anywhere until you answer my question. Where did you get these photos from?” he hissed.Karen’s heart raced. Why was he acting like this? Had he believed Thalassa already?“Exactly what your mother told you when she gave them to you,” she retorted, trying to wriggle her arm from his hold. “You’

The next morning, Millie went to the Miller Textiles company with her heart in her mouth. She intentionally arrived later than her usual time, knowing that Kris was probably in his office by now.The only thing she carried was an envelope containing her resignation. She had no doubt that Kris was going to fire her, but before he had the chance to do that, she wanted to resign.Standing in front of his office door, she knocked anxiously, and when his voice told her to come in, she did.He was sitting behind his desk, looking concentratedly at something on the screen. During the two years she’d worked for him, Millie had gotten used to seeing him with bags under his eyes, but it had gotten particularly bad in the past few weeks. He always looked like such a mess, and today was no exception.“You took your time coming in today,” Kris remarked, finally looking at her, but his expression remained unreadable. Before he could say anything else, Millie stepped forward and handed her envelope

“Yes! Oh God! Fuck me harder!”Karen scrunched her face in disgust and anger as she heard the sounds coming from the bedroom of the man she’d come to visit. Immediately, she stormed angrily into the bedroom. As soon as the man saw Karen, he pulled out of the woman he was fucking and got off her. Karen glared at the woman who looked confused.Karen snapped her fingers. “Get out.”The woman looked offended, glaring back at Karen. “Who the hell are you? You can’t just ask me to leave.”“I said get out,” Karen hissed. The woman looked at the man for some support, but to her shock, the man also snapped his fingers and commanded, “Get out.”Looking humiliated, the woman got off the bed and quickly picked up her clothes, which were sprawled on the floor.“You jerk. You’ll regret this,” she sneered before storming out.Once she was gone, Karen crossed her arms over her chest, an annoyed look on her face. Without bothering to cover himself, the man walked naked towards her with a smile.“What’

“What’s wrong with my wife, doctor? Is she okay?” Kris questioned at the hospital after the doctor was done examining Thalassa. The doctor offered a reassuring smile. “Mr. Miller, please calm down. Your wife is perfectly fine.” Kris’s heart slowed just a little. “Then why did she faint?” Thalassa was sitting up on the hospital bed. Her brow furrowed, and her lips pressed into a thin line. “Doctor, it’s probably menopause,” she said matter-of-factly. “I haven’t had my period in two months. I know it happens earlier for some women.” She wasn't exactly pleased that she was having her menopause at 40 years old, but she had been expecting it. The doctor shook his head gently, a knowing smile on his face. “Mrs. Miller, it’s not menopause, I assure you.” That didn't help to assuage Kris's worry. “Then…what is it?” The doctor looked between them, savoring the moment before delivering the news. “Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Miller. You’re three months pregnant.” For a long second, sile

THIRTEEN YEARS LATERIt was the thirteenth anniversary of Kris and Thalassa’s remarriage, and as had become their tradition, it was a time for celebration with loved ones. The familiar hum of laughter and clinking silverware filled the air, creating a cozy, joyful atmosphere. At the adults’ table, Thalassa sat with her chin resting on her hand, her smile gentle as her gaze lingered on the people who had become their family. Alden and Luisa were seated across from her.Their three children—Andrew, the 12-year-old charmer; Matthew, the mischievous 9-year-old; and Emma, their 5-year-old firecracker—were occupying their seats at the kids’ table.Beside Alden and Luisa were Zeke and Millie, who had flown in from New York with their boisterous 10-year-old triplets, Max, Mia, and Miles.Alex and Tessa were sitting at the adults' table. No longer children, they'd blossomed into young adults. Alex had grown into a tall, broad-shouldered, and cool-headed teenager, much like his father. While Te

The car pulled into a luxurious beachfront resort, its white walls gleaming against the backdrop of the turquoise ocean.Thalassa blinked, the gentle sound of waves lapping against the shore stirring something deep in her memory. They were in Cabo San Lucas. The moment it clicked in her mind, her breath hitched. She glanced out at the golden sands stretching endlessly before her, the rugged cliffs towering in the distance, and the sparkling waters that seemed to stretch into infinity. This wasn’t just any place. It was the place she'd thought she and Kris would be going for their first honeymoon while getting married five years ago. But of course, right after their wedding, Kris had cancelled their honeymoon. Her chest tightened as a surge of emotions threatened to overwhelm her. She turned to Kris, her voice barely above a whisper. “You remembered.”Kris’s lips curved into a soft smile as he reached for her hand, brushing his thumb over her knuckles.“Of course I remembered,” he said

After his aunt disappeared from sight, Kris made his way back to Thalassa on the dance floor. She stood there, her eyes soft and grateful, watching him approach. Her expression said everything—how much his unwavering defense against Cynthia meant to her. When he reached her, she tilted her head and whispered, "Thank you."Kris cupped her cheek, brushing his thumb against her skin. “You don’t have to thank me, love,” he murmured.Straightening, Kris raised his voice to the room, announcing, “Alright, everyone! Let’s get back to celebrating!” The guests cheered, and almost immediately, the jovial atmosphere returned, laughter and clinking glasses echoing in the air.As the music played on, Kris slid his arms around Thalassa’s waist, pulling her close. Before she could react, he dipped his head, nuzzling her neck with deliberate passion. The soft tickle of his lips against her skin sent a shiver down her spine, and she let out a surprised laugh.“Kris,” she whispered, her laughter bub

Kris’s fingers trembled slightly as he slid the delicate band onto Thalassa's finger, his gaze locked onto hers. Her lips quivered, tears glistening in her eyes, and when she looked down at her hand adorned with his promise, she sniffled and quipped through her tears,“Now how am I supposed to top that vow?”A ripple of laughter echoed through the guests, softening the intensity of the moment. Kris chuckled along with them, his own eyes wet as he mouthed, I love you.Zeke stepped forward with the second ring, offering it to Thalassa with a small nod of encouragement. She took a deep breath, steadying her emotions as she began her vows.“Kris,” she started, her voice trembling but firm. “We’ve been through more than a lot of couples ever have since we fell in love. We've experienced more heartaches than a lot of couples have. We've cried more tears than a lot of couples have. But we’ve also survived more than most couples could ever dream of surviving. ONE MONTH LATER... The beach was transformed into a paradise, a breathtaking blend of romance and nature. Rows of white chairs with soft blue ribbons faced an altar made of driftwood, wrapped in delicate white fabric that fluttered in the breeze. Seashells and flowers adorned the aisle, their fragrance mingling with the salty ocean air. Lanterns filled with candles were set along the path, their flames flickering gently despite the sunlight. The waves whispered as they lapped the shore, a soothing background to the laughter and murmurs of the gathered guests. Among the guests sat a healthy Juana, her face radiant with happiness. Though she now had to walk with the help of a cane, her physiotherapist had assured her that she would soon be walking on her own two feet. Kris stood at the altar, his fingers clasped tightly in front of him. He adjusted his tie for the umpteenth time. “Dude, you're acting like you haven't done this before." Alden chuckled, standing to his left as his

Tessa pulled back from the hug first, her little hands clasped together as she looked up at Alex with wide, curious eyes. "Do you want to play with my dollhouse?" she asked, her voice light and full of hope. Alex tilted his head, thinking. "Okay," he said, then quickly added, "But we will play with my toy cars after. Okay?" "Okay!" Tessa agreed with a grin. "Let’s go!" The two children turned and, hand in hand, skipped off together, their laughter echoing. Kris and Thalassa watched them go, a shared warmth blooming between them as they stood side by side. Rising to his feet, Kris turned to Thalassa, noticing the shimmer of tears in her eyes. His brows knitted together in concern as he stepped closer. "What’s wrong?" he asked softly, brushing a stray tear from her cheek. Thalassa smiled, but it was tinged with a bittersweet emotion. "It’s just… Alex has always wanted a little sister. Ever since he was old enough to understand what that meant. I never thought I’d be able to give

Despite himself, Kris suddenly felt a slight wave of anxiety. He had only spent a few days in New York with Alex weeks ago. Sure, they spoke on video calls almost daily, but what if the boy didn’t greet him with the same joy? What if Alex still felt distant toward him?But as if sensing his hesitation, Alex, while still hugging Thalassa, stretched one small arm toward Kris.“Daddy, come!” he said, his voice warm and inviting.Kris felt his chest swell with emotion. Kris was in Tessa's room, leaning against the doorframe, his gaze fixed on the small figure curled up in bed. Her breathing was soft and even, her chest rising and falling rhythmically under the fluffy pink comforter. Moments ago, she had clung to him, her small hands gripping his shirt as she begged him to promise over and over again that he was her daddy, her only daddy, and that he would never let the bad man take her away. Now, she slept peacefully, her expression serene, as though the weight of her fears had finally been lifted after his promises. The sound of soft footsteps behind him pulled Kris from his thoughts.
