Before their lips could touch, the jarring sound of the doorbell shattered the moment, snapping Thalassa out of whatever daze she had been in.

She quickly pulled back her head. What the hell was wrong with her? Why had she almost allowed Kris to kiss her?

Irritated with herself, she gritted her teeth. "I'm almost done," she muttered, continuing to dab at his wound to clear as much blood as possible.

The doorbell kept ringing incessantly, causing them both to frown.

"Who the hell is that?" Kris asked, gripping the edge of his chair in annoyance. Whoever was at the door had deprived him of his moment with Thalassa just when he thought he'd been able to get through to her heart.

Once finished tending to his wound, Thalassa gathered the bloodied cotton into a plastic bag. The bleeding had stopped, but there was still a small gap where the stitches had ripped.

"You need to get that checked at the hospital."

"I'll be—" Kris started, but another round of doorbell rings cut him off.

Earlier...“Luisa, we’ve been going out for some time now, and in case I haven’t shown it clearly enough, I want you to know that I like you. I like you so damn much. I haven’t known you for long, but spending time with you always becomes the best part of my day. I am absolutely bedazzled by you. Your beauty, your charisma...What I’m trying to ask is…”“Yes.”Alden paused. “I didn’t even finish.”“I already know. And my answer is yes,” Luisa said.An amused smile tugged at Alden’s lips. “So that means you’ll marry me?”Luisa’s eyes widened, almost bulging out of their sockets. “Alden…I…you…”“You should see your face,” Alden burst into laughter. “I was joking, gorgeous. I mean, it’s definitely not a bad idea, but even I know it’s too quick for you.”Luisa let out a breath, trying to look annoyed, but the smile she was fighting won out, and she smacked him on the chest. “You clown.”Alden chuckled as he wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her closer. “So, what do you say? Luisa's heart pounded inside her chest, her mind ringing with disbelief as she and the woman stared at each other.Alden's face fell. "Vanessa?"Luisa had hoped this was all a mistake—that in their haste to make love, Alden had accidentally brought her to the wrong penthouse. But the fact that he recognized the woman shattered her heart."Who is this bitch, Alden?" the woman demanded, her face scrunching up with jealousy."Don't you dare call her that," Alden hissed.Luisa forced a smile, her voice cold. "Don't worry, Vanessa. This bitch is leaving." She slid the straps of her dress back onto her shoulders and turned to Alden. "I didn't know you were already occupied. Sorry."Panic flashed through Alden's eyes. "Luisa, no. I'm not. I don't know what she's doing here." He turned to Vanessa, glaring at her. "What the hell are you doing here, Vanessa?"“Because I wanted to see you, what else?" Vanessa got up from the bed, not even bothering to cover naked body. She was absolutely gorgeo

On the street, breath quickening, Luisa hailed a taxi and climbed in. When the driver asked where they were going, she was about to give him the address to her and Thalassa’s house, but she hesitated. That was the place Alden was going to look for her at, and she didn’t want to see him. Instead, she gave Zeke’s address. Her heart felt like it was shattering into a million pieces, which was ridiculous. She’d only been Alden’s girlfriend for less than an hour. She shouldn’t be feeling this way. When the taxi pulled up outside Zeke’s house, she paid the fare and stepped out. The security guard greeted her, but Luisa barely acknowledged him as she made her way to the front door. Before she could ring the bell, the door swung open, and Zeke appeared, concern etched on his face.“Luisa, what happened?” he asked, gently taking her hand and pulling her inside. He shut the door behind them, then wrapped his arms around her. That was all it took for Luisa to break down. “You were right, Zeke,”

Alden was unfazed, stepping forward. “Zeke, I know you don’t like me, but I would never do anything to hurt Luisa. What happened at my place was a misunderstanding.”“A misunderstanding?” Zeke scoffed, incredulous. His fists itched to punch Alden, but he held back, afraid of hitting Thalassa by mistake. “You call her finding another woman naked in your bed a misunderstanding?”Alden sighed heavily. “Look, I know it looks bad, but it’s the truth. That woman is my ex. I have nothing to do with her anymore.” He paused, his expression earnest. “But the one I owe an explanation to is Luisa. I need to speak to her.”“You’re delusional if you think I’m letting you see her.” Zeke sneered. “In fact, I don’t want you anywhere near my sister again. Got it?”“When will you stop being such a controlling prick, Mathews?” Kris interjected from behind Alden and Thalassa.Zeke’s glare shifted to Kris. “Shut your mouth, Miller.”Taking advantage of the momentary distraction, Alden bolted past Zeke into

Zeke could barely contain his excitement. "You'll stay tonight?" he asked, a pleased smile tugging at his lips. Thalassa sleeping over meant more time with him—and less time with Kris Miller.Standing beside her, Kris’s jaw clenched tightly as he noticed the smug grin on Zeke’s face. He knew that even if Thalassa went home with him, all she would do would be to treat him with coldness, but that would be far better than her sleeping over at the house of a man who was in love with her and trying to gain her affection.Stepping forward, he spoke. "Thalassa, Alden doesn't mind taking us home. There's no need to stay here."Thalassa slowly turned to him, her expression unreadable. "Yes, I know. So you can go back with him." She paused, her eyes narrowing slightly. "And Kris, you're just a guest in my house. Don’t call it your home."Kris felt the words hit him like a slap. Jealousy and frustration burned inside him, but he could see she had already made up her mind.Zeke seized the moment,

Later that night, Kris was lying in bed, staring at the ceiling. Alden had dropped him off about two hours ago after they'd gone to the hospital to have his wound restitched, but sleep had been playing hide and seek with him.Couple that with his freshly aching shoulder and the fact that he missed Thalassa like hell.It was funny. Thalassa’s room was two doors away from his, but despite the distance, when she was home, he could always feel her presence, which gave him some comfort. But tonight, knowing she wasn’t in her room, he felt so damn lonely. Was she thinking about him? Did she miss him as much as he missed her? After tossing and turning for another hour, a thought occurred to him.It was reckless—something he knew would piss Thalassa off if she found out. But he couldn’t help himself. Before he could talk himself out of it, Kris pushed back the covers and climbed out of bed. Stepping out of his room, he moved until he reached the door to Thalassa’s room.Placing his hand on th

Kris's heart raced in his chest as jealousy seared through him, his mind reeling with questions. Who was she talking to?As if dealing with Zeke Mathews wasn’t bad enough, now he had to contend with whoever this Alex was.Still peeking, he noticed the smile on Thalassa's face even after she ended the call and tossed her phone on the bed. It was a smile much bigger than the one he had ever seen her flash at Zeke. The blood in his veins pulsing with envy, Kris nearly stepped out to demand for answers, but he knew that would be a stupid move, so he stayed put and continued observing her. Finally, she headed into her walk-in closet, the door closing behind her but not completely. Kris saw his moment to sneak out.Gently opening the balcony door, he stepped into the room, but he paused when he saw her phone still on the bed, the screen lit up—unlocked. His feet and hands itched to pick it up and check the number she had been on a call with. It took every ounce of restraint to resist the t

“Now that we know it was Clark behind it, could you please hold a press conference to clear my mother’s name?”For a few seconds, Thalassa doubted she'd actually heard him say those words, but her disbelief quickly morphed into bitterness. "You want me to hold a press conference and clear your mother’s name?" she repeated, her tone laced with incredulity, waiting to see if he'd dare confirm it.When he nodded, her jaw clenched tightly. "What makes you think I would ever do something like that?"His brows furrowed as if he couldn't believe she was asking that question."Because that's the truth," he replied earnestly. "Thalassa, since the awards show, my mother has been facing endless hate online and in public. She’s lost millions of clients, and nearly all her investors have pulled out. Her business is on the verge of bankruptcy. My mother worked so hard to build her empire, and losing it will destroy her. “What’s wrong with my wife, doctor? Is she okay?” Kris questioned at the hospital after the doctor was done examining Thalassa. The doctor offered a reassuring smile. “Mr. Miller, please calm down. Your wife is perfectly fine.” Kris’s heart slowed just a little. “Then why did she faint?” Thalassa was sitting up on the hospital bed. Her brow furrowed, and her lips pressed into a thin line. “Doctor, it’s probably menopause,” she said matter-of-factly. “I haven’t had my period in two months. I know it happens earlier for some women.” She wasn't exactly pleased that she was having her menopause at 40 years old, but she had been expecting it. The doctor shook his head gently, a knowing smile on his face. “Mrs. Miller, it’s not menopause, I assure you.” That didn't help to assuage Kris's worry. “Then…what is it?” The doctor looked between them, savoring the moment before delivering the news. “Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Miller. You’re three months pregnant.” For a long second, sile

THIRTEEN YEARS LATERIt was the thirteenth anniversary of Kris and Thalassa’s remarriage, and as had become their tradition, it was a time for celebration with loved ones. The familiar hum of laughter and clinking silverware filled the air, creating a cozy, joyful atmosphere. At the adults’ table, Thalassa sat with her chin resting on her hand, her smile gentle as her gaze lingered on the people who had become their family. Alden and Luisa were seated across from her.Their three children—Andrew, the 12-year-old charmer; Matthew, the mischievous 9-year-old; and Emma, their 5-year-old firecracker—were occupying their seats at the kids’ table.Beside Alden and Luisa were Zeke and Millie, who had flown in from New York with their boisterous 10-year-old triplets, Max, Mia, and Miles.Alex and Tessa were sitting at the adults' table. No longer children, they'd blossomed into young adults. Alex had grown into a tall, broad-shouldered, and cool-headed teenager, much like his father. While Te

The car pulled into a luxurious beachfront resort, its white walls gleaming against the backdrop of the turquoise ocean.Thalassa blinked, the gentle sound of waves lapping against the shore stirring something deep in her memory. They were in Cabo San Lucas. The moment it clicked in her mind, her breath hitched. She glanced out at the golden sands stretching endlessly before her, the rugged cliffs towering in the distance, and the sparkling waters that seemed to stretch into infinity. This wasn’t just any place. It was the place she'd thought she and Kris would be going for their first honeymoon while getting married five years ago. But of course, right after their wedding, Kris had cancelled their honeymoon. Her chest tightened as a surge of emotions threatened to overwhelm her. She turned to Kris, her voice barely above a whisper. “You remembered.”Kris’s lips curved into a soft smile as he reached for her hand, brushing his thumb over her knuckles.“Of course I remembered,” he said

After his aunt disappeared from sight, Kris made his way back to Thalassa on the dance floor. She stood there, her eyes soft and grateful, watching him approach. Her expression said everything—how much his unwavering defense against Cynthia meant to her. When he reached her, she tilted her head and whispered, "Thank you."Kris cupped her cheek, brushing his thumb against her skin. “You don’t have to thank me, love,” he murmured.Straightening, Kris raised his voice to the room, announcing, “Alright, everyone! Let’s get back to celebrating!” The guests cheered, and almost immediately, the jovial atmosphere returned, laughter and clinking glasses echoing in the air.As the music played on, Kris slid his arms around Thalassa’s waist, pulling her close. Before she could react, he dipped his head, nuzzling her neck with deliberate passion. The soft tickle of his lips against her skin sent a shiver down her spine, and she let out a surprised laugh.“Kris,” she whispered, her laughter bub

Kris’s fingers trembled slightly as he slid the delicate band onto Thalassa's finger, his gaze locked onto hers. Her lips quivered, tears glistening in her eyes, and when she looked down at her hand adorned with his promise, she sniffled and quipped through her tears,“Now how am I supposed to top that vow?”A ripple of laughter echoed through the guests, softening the intensity of the moment. Kris chuckled along with them, his own eyes wet as he mouthed, I love you.Zeke stepped forward with the second ring, offering it to Thalassa with a small nod of encouragement. She took a deep breath, steadying her emotions as she began her vows.“Kris,” she started, her voice trembling but firm. “We’ve been through more than a lot of couples ever have since we fell in love. We've experienced more heartaches than a lot of couples have. We've cried more tears than a lot of couples have. But we’ve also survived more than most couples could ever dream of surviving. ONE MONTH LATER... The beach was transformed into a paradise, a breathtaking blend of romance and nature. Rows of white chairs with soft blue ribbons faced an altar made of driftwood, wrapped in delicate white fabric that fluttered in the breeze. Seashells and flowers adorned the aisle, their fragrance mingling with the salty ocean air. Lanterns filled with candles were set along the path, their flames flickering gently despite the sunlight. The waves whispered as they lapped the shore, a soothing background to the laughter and murmurs of the gathered guests. Among the guests sat a healthy Juana, her face radiant with happiness. Though she now had to walk with the help of a cane, her physiotherapist had assured her that she would soon be walking on her own two feet. Kris stood at the altar, his fingers clasped tightly in front of him. He adjusted his tie for the umpteenth time. “Dude, you're acting like you haven't done this before." Alden chuckled, standing to his left as his

Tessa pulled back from the hug first, her little hands clasped together as she looked up at Alex with wide, curious eyes. "Do you want to play with my dollhouse?" she asked, her voice light and full of hope. Alex tilted his head, thinking. "Okay," he said, then quickly added, "But we will play with my toy cars after. Okay?" "Okay!" Tessa agreed with a grin. "Let’s go!" The two children turned and, hand in hand, skipped off together, their laughter echoing. Kris and Thalassa watched them go, a shared warmth blooming between them as they stood side by side. Rising to his feet, Kris turned to Thalassa, noticing the shimmer of tears in her eyes. His brows knitted together in concern as he stepped closer. "What’s wrong?" he asked softly, brushing a stray tear from her cheek. Thalassa smiled, but it was tinged with a bittersweet emotion. "It’s just… Alex has always wanted a little sister. Ever since he was old enough to understand what that meant. I never thought I’d be able to give

Kris and Thalassa both knelt as Alex barreled into their arms, his small frame colliding with Thalassa first. His tiny arms wrapped tightly around her neck as he exclaimed, "Mummy! Despite himself, Kris suddenly felt a slight wave of anxiety. He had only spent a few days in New York with Alex weeks ago. Sure, they spoke on video calls almost daily, but what if the boy didn’t greet him with the same joy? What if Alex still felt distant toward him?But as if sensing his hesitation, Alex, while still hugging Thalassa, stretched one small arm toward Kris.“Daddy, come!” he said, his voice warm and inviting.Kris felt his chest swell with emotion. Kris was in Tessa's room, leaning against the doorframe, his gaze fixed on the small figure curled up in bed. Her breathing was soft and even, her chest rising and falling rhythmically under the fluffy pink comforter. Moments ago, she had clung to him, her small hands gripping his shirt as she begged him to promise over and over again that he was her daddy, her only daddy, and that he would never let the bad man take her away. Now, she slept peacefully, her expression serene, as though the weight of her fears had finally been lifted after his promises. The sound of soft footsteps behind him pulled Kris from his thoughts. He turned to see Thalassa standing in the doorway, a faint smile on her lips.“It’s done,” she said simply. stepping beside him. “That coward is in jail.”“Good."
