After dinner, Alden insisted on doing the dishes along with Luisa who reluctantly agreed to let him help. Once they were done, the three of them gathered in the living room to chat for about an hour.

Well, the "chat" mostly consisted of Alden and Luisa flirting, while Kris sat quietly, his mind occupied with thoughts of the woman upstairs. Thalassa hadn’t bothered to come down even once.

When Luisa finally decided to call it a night, Kris headed upstairs to take a shower. Alden stayed for a bit and helped him with his bandage and sling before finally leaving the house.

Hours later, Kris lay on his bed, eyes wide open, staring at the ceiling. No matter how hard he tried, sleep refused to come. Apart from the fact that he couldn't stop thinking about Thalassa, his shoulder was hurting like a bitch.

The doctor had warned him the pain would worsen at night, but he hadn’t expected it to hurt this much. It was more agonizing than when he was first shot.

He had taken two aspirin tablets, but

The next day was Saturday, which meant neither Thalassa nor Luisa had anywhere to be.Kris, still dealing with the ache in his shoulder, had only managed a few hours of sleep. Stretching carefully, his arm still secured in the sling, he got out of bed. His wound still hurt, but it wasn't as bad as it had been the previous night. In the bathroom, he brushed his teeth and washed his face before heading downstairs. Thalassa and Luisa were nowhere in sight, but the aroma of freshly brewed coffee lured him into the kitchen.Luisa was sitting on a stool at the kitchen counter, her gaze fixed on her phone as she sipped her coffee. She glanced up when she saw him."Oh, hey Kris," she greeted with a smile. "I thought you would wake up much later. How did you sleep?"Kris hesitated, his mind drifting to his late-night encounter with Thalassa. "I’ve had better nights."Though sleepless nights had become a normal for him over the last three

Thick tension hung in the air as Kris and Thalassa worked together to prepare breakfast. Thalassa kept her distance, focusing on chopping vegetables while Kris rinsed the potatoes and placed them in a bowl as instructed. "I'm done," Kris announced after a few minutes. He wished he could peel them himself, but that was impossible with one arm in a sling."You can hand them over," Thalassa said, her voice as stiff as ever.Nodding, Kris took the bowl and reached it out to her. She was so intent on avoiding their hands touching that the bowl nearly slipped from her hand. "Careful," Kris said, quickly placing his hand under hers to keep the bowl steady, feeling her tense up.The position brought them close, their breaths quickening as they stared into each other’s eyes until Thalassa cleared her throat and freed her hand from his, setting the bowl onto the counter. The rest of the cooking passed in silence, with Kris stealing glanc

“No. Why would it bother me?” Thalassa replied curtly, crossing her arms tighter across her chest, but not before Kris noticed her hardened nipples slightly poking against her tank top.Heat rushed down his body, settling in his dick, but he made no effort to hide the evidence of his desire for her.He leaned in slightly, his eyes glinting with amusement. “If it doesn't bother you, then why are your cheeks so flushed? And why is your breathing a little heavier than usual?”Thalassa scowled, taking a step back. “It’s all in your head because you think too highly of yourself.”“Mm-hmm,” Kris hummed. “If that’s true, then you won’t have any trouble helping me with this bandage, right?”She rolled her eyes, her irritation clear, but there was something else in her gaze—something that made his heart race.“Your tricks aren’t going to work on me, Kris.”“No tricks,” Kris smiled as he waved the bandage and sling. “Just asking f

The ringing of his phone jolted Kris awake. Groaning, he shifted slightly and picked it up from the nightstand. He froze when he saw the caller ID—it was his mother.Kris stared at the phone for several seconds before tossing it onto the bed beside him, unanswered. It rang again, but he simply watched until it stopped. Then he sank back into his pillow with a sigh. He knew he would have to speak to his mother sooner or later.Remembering the day of the Fashion Awards show, when he accused her of being behind the sabotage, guilt twisted his stomach. She had been telling the truth that she had nothing to do with it, and yet he’d refused to believe her and said all those horrible things to her.He owed her a big apology for assuming the worst, but he would do it later. Right now, his focus was solely on winning Thalassa back.Remembering their conversation last night, guilt consumed him. He had seen the pain mixed with anger in her eyes. The pain he had caused. Zeke’s jaw tightened. “What bothers me is that you’re harassing Thalassa. It’s obvious she doesn’t want you around.”“Harassing her?” Kris raised an eyebrow. “And what makes you think I’m ‘harassing’ her?”“When someone wants nothing to do with you and you keep trying to insert yourself into their life, that’s called harassment.” Zeke took his time to explain like he was speaking to a child.Kris smiled in amusement, but before he could respond, Zeke turned to Luisa, his voice rising slightly in frustration. “And you! Why would you even think of bringing him here, Luisa? What were you thinking?”Luisa let out a sigh. “Zeke, have you forgotten that it was Kris who saved my life? I’m just trying to do something in return. He’s injured because of me, and I’m helping him out until his wound heals a little.”The cold look on Zeke’s face faltered for a moment, his shoulders dropping slightly as he turned back to Kris, clearing his throat.“Er...I haven’t properly thanked you for that. But I

Kris’s good mood evaporated the moment he stepped out of the kitchen; Zeke hadn’t left the house. And, to Kris’s further annoyance, he didn’t look like he had any intention of leaving. He was sitting in the living room beside Thalassa, and they were talking. Kris’s jaw clenched. To make matters worse, Thalassa was smiling. Kris’s chest tightened as jealousy reared its head.He knew he should be happy to see that beautiful smile of hers, but it hurt that she was only smiling in Zeke’s presence even though with him, she was nothing but cold.Swallowing the bitterness rising in his throat, he forced himself to walk to the dining table, knowing Thalassa wouldn’t like it if he went to the living room.A few minutes later, Luisa came out of the kitchen and announced, “Breakfast is ready. Kris, can you help me set the table?”Nodding, Kris got up and helped her. Once they were done, Zeke and Thalassa moved to the table.Kris could barely focus on his food as they ate. To Kris's annoyance, Zeke refused to leave Thalassa alone for the rest of the day. Even after they finished discussing business in the study, the man stayed through lunch and dinner. He only left when both Thalassa and Luisa told him they wanted to call it a night.Kris went to bed in a very bad mood. It had been three days since he started living in the house, and yet he felt like he had made zero progress with Thalassa, even without Zeke standing in his way.The following day was a Monday, which meant Thalassa and Luisa had to go to work.Kris was sitting at the dining table working on his laptop which Alden had carried along for him. He'd come to sit there early hoping to catch some time with Thalassa before she left for work, but she'd walked right out of the house after telling Luisa that she was going to get breakfast at a cafe on her way to the Fashion House. Luisa had also left after making him some pancakes and helping him with his bandage and sling. So now Kris was alone in

Thalassa immediately morphed her laughter into coughs, grabbing a glass of water from the table to cover it up."Are you okay?" Kris asked."Yes. I just had something in my throat," she replied, waving him off as she set the glass back down.Kris fought the urge to smile, not fooled in the slightest. What he had heard was definitely a laugh, and the fact that she tried to disguise it as a cough confirmed that it had something to do with him. His heart swelled with hope."So, shall we begin?" he asked, taking the seat to her right and pulling the lid off his own plate. "Oh, and in case you're wondering how a one-armed man managed to cook this very sumptuous food, I did have help from one of your security guys. He helped move things and chopped the pork cheeks for me, but I swear the actual cooking was all me.""I didn't ask," Thalassa said tersely. She was still annoyed at herself for laughing.Despite her irritation, her mouth watered as the aroma of the carbonara hit her senses. But

“What’s wrong with my wife, doctor? Is she okay?” Kris questioned at the hospital after the doctor was done examining Thalassa. The doctor offered a reassuring smile. “Mr. Miller, please calm down. Your wife is perfectly fine.” Kris’s heart slowed just a little. “Then why did she faint?” Thalassa was sitting up on the hospital bed. Her brow furrowed, and her lips pressed into a thin line. “Doctor, it’s probably menopause,” she said matter-of-factly. “I haven’t had my period in two months. I know it happens earlier for some women.” She wasn't exactly pleased that she was having her menopause at 40 years old, but she had been expecting it. The doctor shook his head gently, a knowing smile on his face. “Mrs. Miller, it’s not menopause, I assure you.” That didn't help to assuage Kris's worry. “Then…what is it?” The doctor looked between them, savoring the moment before delivering the news. “Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Miller. You’re three months pregnant.” For a long second, sile

THIRTEEN YEARS LATERIt was the thirteenth anniversary of Kris and Thalassa’s remarriage, and as had become their tradition, it was a time for celebration with loved ones. The familiar hum of laughter and clinking silverware filled the air, creating a cozy, joyful atmosphere. At the adults’ table, Thalassa sat with her chin resting on her hand, her smile gentle as her gaze lingered on the people who had become their family. Alden and Luisa were seated across from her.Their three children—Andrew, the 12-year-old charmer; Matthew, the mischievous 9-year-old; and Emma, their 5-year-old firecracker—were occupying their seats at the kids’ table.Beside Alden and Luisa were Zeke and Millie, who had flown in from New York with their boisterous 10-year-old triplets, Max, Mia, and Miles.Alex and Tessa were sitting at the adults' table. No longer children, they'd blossomed into young adults. Alex had grown into a tall, broad-shouldered, and cool-headed teenager, much like his father. While Te

The car pulled into a luxurious beachfront resort, its white walls gleaming against the backdrop of the turquoise ocean.Thalassa blinked, the gentle sound of waves lapping against the shore stirring something deep in her memory. They were in Cabo San Lucas. The moment it clicked in her mind, her breath hitched. She glanced out at the golden sands stretching endlessly before her, the rugged cliffs towering in the distance, and the sparkling waters that seemed to stretch into infinity. This wasn’t just any place. It was the place she'd thought she and Kris would be going for their first honeymoon while getting married five years ago. But of course, right after their wedding, Kris had cancelled their honeymoon. Her chest tightened as a surge of emotions threatened to overwhelm her. She turned to Kris, her voice barely above a whisper. “You remembered.”Kris’s lips curved into a soft smile as he reached for her hand, brushing his thumb over her knuckles.“Of course I remembered,” he said

After his aunt disappeared from sight, Kris made his way back to Thalassa on the dance floor. She stood there, her eyes soft and grateful, watching him approach. Her expression said everything—how much his unwavering defense against Cynthia meant to her. When he reached her, she tilted her head and whispered, "Thank you."Kris cupped her cheek, brushing his thumb against her skin. “You don’t have to thank me, love,” he murmured.Straightening, Kris raised his voice to the room, announcing, “Alright, everyone! Let’s get back to celebrating!” The guests cheered, and almost immediately, the jovial atmosphere returned, laughter and clinking glasses echoing in the air.As the music played on, Kris slid his arms around Thalassa’s waist, pulling her close. Before she could react, he dipped his head, nuzzling her neck with deliberate passion. The soft tickle of his lips against her skin sent a shiver down her spine, and she let out a surprised laugh.“Kris,” she whispered, her laughter bub

Kris’s fingers trembled slightly as he slid the delicate band onto Thalassa's finger, his gaze locked onto hers. Her lips quivered, tears glistening in her eyes, and when she looked down at her hand adorned with his promise, she sniffled and quipped through her tears,“Now how am I supposed to top that vow?”A ripple of laughter echoed through the guests, softening the intensity of the moment. Kris chuckled along with them, his own eyes wet as he mouthed, I love you.Zeke stepped forward with the second ring, offering it to Thalassa with a small nod of encouragement. She took a deep breath, steadying her emotions as she began her vows.“Kris,” she started, her voice trembling but firm. “We’ve been through more than a lot of couples ever have since we fell in love. We've experienced more heartaches than a lot of couples have. We've cried more tears than a lot of couples have. But we’ve also survived more than most couples could ever dream of surviving. ONE MONTH LATER... The beach was transformed into a paradise, a breathtaking blend of romance and nature. Rows of white chairs with soft blue ribbons faced an altar made of driftwood, wrapped in delicate white fabric that fluttered in the breeze. Seashells and flowers adorned the aisle, their fragrance mingling with the salty ocean air. Lanterns filled with candles were set along the path, their flames flickering gently despite the sunlight. The waves whispered as they lapped the shore, a soothing background to the laughter and murmurs of the gathered guests. Among the guests sat a healthy Juana, her face radiant with happiness. Though she now had to walk with the help of a cane, her physiotherapist had assured her that she would soon be walking on her own two feet. Kris stood at the altar, his fingers clasped tightly in front of him. He adjusted his tie for the umpteenth time. “Dude, you're acting like you haven't done this before." Alden chuckled, standing to his left as his

Tessa pulled back from the hug first, her little hands clasped together as she looked up at Alex with wide, curious eyes. "Do you want to play with my dollhouse?" she asked, her voice light and full of hope. Alex tilted his head, thinking. "Okay," he said, then quickly added, "But we will play with my toy cars after. Okay?" "Okay!" Tessa agreed with a grin. "Let’s go!" The two children turned and, hand in hand, skipped off together, their laughter echoing. Kris and Thalassa watched them go, a shared warmth blooming between them as they stood side by side. Rising to his feet, Kris turned to Thalassa, noticing the shimmer of tears in her eyes. His brows knitted together in concern as he stepped closer. "What’s wrong?" he asked softly, brushing a stray tear from her cheek. Thalassa smiled, but it was tinged with a bittersweet emotion. "It’s just… Alex has always wanted a little sister. Ever since he was old enough to understand what that meant. I never thought I’d be able to give

Kris and Thalassa both knelt as Alex barreled into their arms, his small frame colliding with Thalassa first. His tiny arms wrapped tightly around her neck as he exclaimed, "Mummy! I missed you, Mummy!"Thalassa’s arms encircled him, her voice trembling as she whispered, "I missed you too, sweetheart. So much." Her fingers gently stroked his hair as their joy filled the room. Despite himself, Kris suddenly felt a slight wave of anxiety. He had only spent a few days in New York with Alex weeks ago. Sure, they spoke on video calls almost daily, but what if the boy didn’t greet him with the same joy? What if Alex still felt distant toward him?But as if sensing his hesitation, Alex, while still hugging Thalassa, stretched one small arm toward Kris.“Daddy, come!” he said, his voice warm and inviting.Kris felt his chest swell with emotion. Kris was in Tessa's room, leaning against the doorframe, his gaze fixed on the small figure curled up in bed. Her breathing was soft and even, her chest rising and falling rhythmically under the fluffy pink comforter. Moments ago, she had clung to him, her small hands gripping his shirt as she begged him to promise over and over again that he was her daddy, her only daddy, and that he would never let the bad man take her away. Now, she slept peacefully, her expression serene, as though the weight of her fears had finally been lifted after his promises. The sound of soft footsteps behind him pulled Kris from his thoughts. He turned to see Thalassa standing in the doorway, a faint smile on her lips.“It’s done,” she said simply. stepping beside him. “That coward is in jail.”“Good."
