“Alden was here?” Thalassa asked, her brows raised. “When?”

“Just a few minutes ago. I saw him stepping out of the elevator,” Clark replied, fixing his gaze on Luisa. “Did he come to see you?”

Luisa resisted the urge to snap at him, to tell him it was none of his business, but she bit her tongue and held back her retort.

Thalassa smiled, her eyes lighting up as she turned to Luisa. “Did he finally ask you out? Are you two together now?”

Both of them were staring at her expectantly, but Clark’s gaze was much more intent on her, making Luisa feel uneasy.

“Yes,” she lied, feeling trapped.

She couldn’t give any other answer, especially with Clark watching her so closely. If she denied it, it would mean having to explain what Alden actually came to do.

Thalassa beamed. “That’s great! I’m happy for you, Sis.”

“Thanks,” Luisa replied, forcing a smile. “Thalassa, I need to talk to you—”

Clark cut her off with a smooth chuckle. “You said you had something to discuss with Thalassa, but we’re k

“I’ll let you know if we need your help.” Luisa said, her voice coming out sharper than she intended. Clark’s smile dropped, but he restored it almost immediately, and an awkward silence settled over the table for a few seconds until he broke it with another ferrible joke. A few minutes later, their food was brought to them. “Luisa, are you sure everything’s okay? You haven’t taken a bite yet,” Thalassa asked, noticing Luisa was just poking her salad with her fork after she and Clark had already been eating for a while. “Everything’s fine, Lassa. Don’t worry,” Luisa replied, forcing herself to take a forkful of salad to ease Thalassa's concern. But she could feel Clark’s eyes on her every few seconds. Not wanting to raise his suspicions, she forced herself to finish everything on her plate, acting as normal as she could. When they were done, Clark paid the bill. Just as Luisa thought they were about to leave, he excused himself. “Will the ladies excuse me? I need to use the

That evening, Luisa turned off the shower and stepped out of the cubicle, feeling refreshed physically, but inside, the anxiety still lingered. After they'd returned to the office, she had tried to talk to Thalassa again. Despite seeing moments where Thalassa was truly considering her words, it hadn’t been enough to finally get her to listen.Sighing, Luisa toweled off her body and stepped into her bedroom just as her phone began ringing on the bed. She picked it up, her heart soaring when she saw the name on the screen—Alden."Hello," she said softly, trying not to sound too excited."Luisa..." He breathed her name in a way that sent a shiver of sensation straight to her core."Alden...""I know I said I’d call you later, but I couldn’t wait. I need to see you," he said.Luisa's heart raced with excitement. "Me... me too.""Really?""Yes."Thoughts of him had been the only thing distracting her from the worry she felt for her best friend—his enticing smell, the warmth of his body...

Kris was sitting in the living room of his penthouse, nursing a small glass of scotch, when his doorbell rang.He frowned. He hadn’t told any of his family members where he currently lived, and Alden was on a date with Luisa, so who could it be?Setting the glass on the coffee table, he got up to check the door, turning on the camera connected to the doorbell. Zeke Matthews’ face appeared on the screen.Kris stiffened. What the hell was he doing here?Gritting his teeth, he opened the door, and almost immediately, Zeke stormed into his penthouse without permission.“For a supposedly smart businessman, you sure seem to lack a lot of manners, Matthews,” Kris said coolly, not bothering to shut the door since he didn’t plan on entertaining the man in his penthouse for long.“Do not fucking talk to me about manners!” Zeke hissed.“What’s got your panties all twisted up this evening, baby girl?” Kris asked mockingly, eyebrows raised. “How did you know where I lived? Did you stalk me?”“Stal

The next move Luisa made surprised even herself. She threw the car into reverse, her heart hammering as she quickly spun the wheel and backed up. The car screeched as her side mirror clipped the vehicle behind he and broke, but somehow, she managed to squeeze through the narrow space left on the road. Tires screeched as she sped away.“I did it!” She shouted, but her relief was short-lived when she glanced at the rearview mirror and saw the men running back to their cars, with one speeding after her. “They’re chasing me again!”“Keep driving,” Kris instructed. “You’re close to where I live now. Zeke will share our location with you. Head toward us.”Alden’s voice came through, his calmness somehow cutting through the tension. “Do what Kris says, Luisa. I’m on my way too.”Luisa’s hands trembled on the steering wheel, but she pressed harder on the gas. The headlights of the car behind her filled the mirrors, growing closer by the second. Her body jolted as the car behind rammed into h

“Kris!" Luisa screamed when she opened her eyes to see Kris bleeding from his shoulder. She shot to her feet and rushed toward him. "Kris… are you okay?" “Yes… I’m fine,” he muttered, brushing off her concern. "But you need to get behind the car. Now." Before Luisa could respond, the man who had fired the shot turned his gun back on her, but before he could pull the trigger, Alden suddenly crashed into him, tackling him to the ground. Alden grabbed his wrist, and they struggled over the gun until he finally managed to knock it out of the man's hand. “How dare you! How dare you try to shoot her?!” He raged, slamming his fist into the man's face. More punches followed. When the man was finally subdued, Alden took his gun and grabbed him by the collar. He dragged him to where the rest were standing, throwing him onto the floor beside his accomplice. Luisa gasped when she saw Alden’s face, noticing a small but bloody cut on his forehead. "Oh, Alden! Are you okay?" "Yeah, don

“I was waiting for my investigators to confirm my suspicions about you,” Thalassa said icily. “But you trying to kill my best friend? That’s the last straw.”Clark’s mind raced as he processed the sight of Thalassa holding a gun on him. This was the last thing he’d expected coming here. He needed to do something to salvage the situation.“Thalassa, what are you talking about? I didn’t try to kill anyone.” His voice wavered, though he attempted to keep it steady.Thalassa scoffed, her eyes narrowing. “Luisa called to tell me what happened to her on the road. You sent those men after her, and they would’ve killed her had it not been for Alden, Zeke, and Kris.”Clark saw an opportunity to turn things around. ““Kris? Of course! I’m not surprised that it involves that man. Lassa, he’s clearly trying to manipulate you again. Can’t you see? He obviously planned for those men to chase Luisa so that he would rescue her and act like a savior.”A humorless smile curled on Thalassa’s lips. “Funny

Clark let out a cold laughter. “Well, you and Kris can search all you want, but you won’t find anything. I’m not an idiot.”Thalassa’s eyes narrowed, her voice cutting through the room like ice. “So it’s true. That story you told me about the women you ‘fell in love with’ supposedly killing themselves—it was all a lie, wasn’t it? They never committed suicide. You killed them so you can get their fortune.”Clark scoffed, rolling his eyes. “I didn’t kill them. They were already sick in the head. All I had to do was push them a little, and they were ready to swallow those pills because they were so ‘depressed.’ Poor things.”Though her face remained composed, Thalassa felt a wave of nausea twist in her stomach. How had she allowed someone like him to get so close to her? His voice was devoid of emotion, as if driving someone to suicide was something normal to him.“Is that what you planned to do to me?” she asked calmly. “Marry me or get me to sign over my wealth, then make me kill mysel

Clark knew he was cornered. There were three police cars and at least six officers in front of him, along with those idiots—Kris, Alden, Luisa, and Zeke. His eyes darted around. If he could run around the house into the backyard, maybe he could scale the wall and escape. Before he could even take a step, one of the officers warned him.“Don’t even think about it, sir, or we’ll be forced to shoot.”Clark froze, knowing the officer wasn't bluffing. He would be an idiot to try and escape now. Even if he tried, his wounded thigh would keep him from getting far. He was fucked for now, but far from giving up.Three officers came towards him, spreading out on each side of him until they finally got to him. Though he wasn't trying to resist, one of them swept his legs from under him, sending him crashing down on the hard, rocky pavement.Pain shot through his thigh, but he bit back a cry, refusing to give them the satisfaction. He lay still as they cuffed his hands behind his back.Once they

“What’s wrong with my wife, doctor? Is she okay?” Kris questioned at the hospital after the doctor was done examining Thalassa. The doctor offered a reassuring smile. “Mr. Miller, please calm down. Your wife is perfectly fine.” Kris’s heart slowed just a little. “Then why did she faint?” Thalassa was sitting up on the hospital bed. Her brow furrowed, and her lips pressed into a thin line. “Doctor, it’s probably menopause,” she said matter-of-factly. “I haven’t had my period in two months. I know it happens earlier for some women.” She wasn't exactly pleased that she was having her menopause at 40 years old, but she had been expecting it. The doctor shook his head gently, a knowing smile on his face. “Mrs. Miller, it’s not menopause, I assure you.” That didn't help to assuage Kris's worry. “Then…what is it?” The doctor looked between them, savoring the moment before delivering the news. “Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Miller. You’re three months pregnant.” For a long second, sile

The car pulled into a luxurious beachfront resort, its white walls gleaming against the backdrop of the turquoise ocean.Thalassa blinked, the gentle sound of waves lapping against the shore stirring something deep in her memory. They were in Cabo San Lucas. The moment it clicked in her mind, her breath hitched. She glanced out at the golden sands stretching endlessly before her, the rugged cliffs towering in the distance, and the sparkling waters that seemed to stretch into infinity. This wasn’t just any place. It was the place she'd thought she and Kris would be going for their first honeymoon while getting married five years ago. But of course, right after their wedding, Kris had cancelled their honeymoon. Her chest tightened as a surge of emotions threatened to overwhelm her. She turned to Kris, her voice barely above a whisper. “You remembered.”Kris’s lips curved into a soft smile as he reached for her hand, brushing his thumb over her knuckles.“Of course I remembered,” he said

After his aunt disappeared from sight, Kris made his way back to Thalassa on the dance floor. She stood there, her eyes soft and grateful, watching him approach. Her expression said everything—how much his unwavering defense against Cynthia meant to her. When he reached her, she tilted her head and whispered, "Thank you."Kris cupped her cheek, brushing his thumb against her skin. “You don’t have to thank me, love,” he murmured.Straightening, Kris raised his voice to the room, announcing, “Alright, everyone! Let’s get back to celebrating!” The guests cheered, and almost immediately, the jovial atmosphere returned, laughter and clinking glasses echoing in the air.As the music played on, Kris slid his arms around Thalassa’s waist, pulling her close. Before she could react, he dipped his head, nuzzling her neck with deliberate passion. The soft tickle of his lips against her skin sent a shiver down her spine, and she let out a surprised laugh.“Kris,” she whispered, her laughter bub

Kris’s fingers trembled slightly as he slid the delicate band onto Thalassa's finger, his gaze locked onto hers. Her lips quivered, tears glistening in her eyes, and when she looked down at her hand adorned with his promise, she sniffled and quipped through her tears,“Now how am I supposed to top that vow?”A ripple of laughter echoed through the guests, softening the intensity of the moment. Kris chuckled along with them, his own eyes wet as he mouthed, I love you.Zeke stepped forward with the second ring, offering it to Thalassa with a small nod of encouragement. She took a deep breath, steadying her emotions as she began her vows.“Kris,” she started, her voice trembling but firm. “We’ve been through more than a lot of couples ever have since we fell in love. We've experienced more heartaches than a lot of couples have. We've cried more tears than a lot of couples have. But we’ve also survived more than most couples could ever dream of surviving. ONE MONTH LATER... The beach was transformed into a paradise, a breathtaking blend of romance and nature. Rows of white chairs with soft blue ribbons faced an altar made of driftwood, wrapped in delicate white fabric that fluttered in the breeze. Seashells and flowers adorned the aisle, their fragrance mingling with the salty ocean air. Lanterns filled with candles were set along the path, their flames flickering gently despite the sunlight. The waves whispered as they lapped the shore, a soothing background to the laughter and murmurs of the gathered guests. Among the guests sat a healthy Juana, her face radiant with happiness. Though she now had to walk with the help of a cane, her physiotherapist had assured her that she would soon be walking on her own two feet. Kris stood at the altar, his fingers clasped tightly in front of him. He adjusted his tie for the umpteenth time. “Dude, you're acting like you haven't done this before." Alden chuckled, standing to his left as his

Tessa pulled back from the hug first, her little hands clasped together as she looked up at Alex with wide, curious eyes. "Do you want to play with my dollhouse?" she asked, her voice light and full of hope. Alex tilted his head, thinking. "Okay," he said, then quickly added, "But we will play with my toy cars after. Okay?" "Okay!" Tessa agreed with a grin. "Let’s go!" The two children turned and, hand in hand, skipped off together, their laughter echoing. Kris and Thalassa watched them go, a shared warmth blooming between them as they stood side by side. Rising to his feet, Kris turned to Thalassa, noticing the shimmer of tears in her eyes. His brows knitted together in concern as he stepped closer. "What’s wrong?" he asked softly, brushing a stray tear from her cheek. Thalassa smiled, but it was tinged with a bittersweet emotion. "It’s just… Alex has always wanted a little sister. Ever since he was old enough to understand what that meant. I never thought I’d be able to give

Sure, they spoke on video calls almost daily, but what if the boy didn’t greet him with the same joy? Kris was in Tessa's room, leaning against the doorframe, his gaze fixed on the small figure curled up in bed. Moments ago, she had clung to him, her small hands gripping his shirt as she begged him to promise over and over again that he was her daddy, her only daddy, and that he would never let the bad man take her away. Now, she slept peacefully, her expression serene, as though the weight of her fears had finally been lifted after his promises. The sound of soft footsteps behind him pulled Kris from his thoughts.
