The guard grabbed Kris, ready to drag him out, but Kris shrugged him off.

“I know my way out,” he muttered.

With that, he made his way out of the backstage area and entered the main hall. Murmurs of accusation still filled the room, all directed at his mother, who looked increasingly frustrated.

As he looked at her, suspicion twisted in Kris’s gut. He remembered his mother vehemently telling him that she didn’t want Thalassa anywhere near their lives.

Had she become so obsessed with keeping Thalassa out of his life that she would orchestrate this to make Thalassa hate him even more, ensuring she would never forgive him?

His chest tightened as he approached her. “Mum, you and I need to talk,” he said firmly.

Linda looked at him, her eyes widening in alarm. “Kris, why do you have that expression on your face? You can’t possibly believe—”

She tried to continue, but Kris wasn’t listening. He led the way, giving her no choice but to follow him. The rest of the family trailed behind, and al

“Another bottle,” Kris muttered, his voice barely audible over the din of the bar.“Right away, sir,” the bartender replied, nodding briskly.A few seconds later, a chilled, uncapped bottle of beer slid across the counter to Kris. He picked it up and took a long gulp, drinking as much as he could until the fizz burned his throat and forced him to stop.“I knew I’d find you here,” a familiar voice said from behind him as he set the bottle down. “I almost gave up looking when I didn’t see you in the VIP booth,” Alden admitted as he slid onto the stool next to Kris.Noticing the bottle in front of Kris, relief rolled through Alden, glad that it wasn’t whiskey or scotch. He signaled to the bartender. “I’ll have a bottle too.”Kris lifted his beer again, taking another swig, causing Alden to cringe sympathetically at the thought of how it was going to burn down Kris’s throat. But he knew his best friend needed this.“I already heard about what happened at the awards show,” Alden said, as

Kris’s hand quivered, his breath coming out shakily as anger rushed through him. He hadn’t considered Karen as a possible culprit since she had nothing to do with the fashion world, but what Alden was saying made a lot of sense. He immediately jumped off his stool and grabbed his bottle. Bringing it to his lips, he chugged the remaining beer, his grip tightening around the bottle as he wished it was Karen’s neck so that he could strangle the hell put of it.“Where are you going?” Alden asked, holding him back as Kris was about to storm off.“Do you really need to ask?” Kris sneered.“Touché.” Alden nodded. “You’re going to confront Karen. Fine, but give me the keys. I’ll drive. You’re drunk.”Kris glared at him. “I’m not drunk.”As much as he’d wanted to drink himself into a stupor, he knew he needed a clear head to think, which was why he’d opted for beer instead of whiskey. The bartender, who had obviously been listening to their conversation, chimed in. “He’s right, Alden. “I meant everything I said on that stage. This award isn’t just for me; it’s for all of us because we’re a team. Without all of you, this wouldn’t have been possible,” Thalassa said to the gathering of her employees at TT Fashion House the following morning.“And as I mentioned, prepare for a percentage increase in your various salaries because you deserve it,” Luisa added, standing beside Thalassa and heightening the excitement of everyone present.“Thank you, Luisa and Lassa. You two are the best bosses ever!” one of the women said, receiving echoes of agreement from the rest.“Please don’t let what Carmen did get to you. None of us would ever do something like that to you,” another employee assured.Thalassa’s smile faltered slightly. “I hope so.”She knew better than to be naive and assume none of them would betray her. She hadn’t expected Carmen’s betrayal, but all it had taken was a bribe, and Carmen had turned against her.“Thank you, everyone,” Thalassa said, bringing the smal

“I’m fucking going crazy, Alden. I need to see her,” Kris gritted out, pacing his office.Last night, after leaving the Miller Mansion, he had wanted to go straight to Thalassa to reaffirm his innocence. But Alden had dissuaded him from it, telling him that he needed to wait for some time for Thalassa to reflect on everything so that they could have a calm conversation about it later. And today, Alden was saying the same thing.“How long is it going to take?” Kris muttered, his frustration bubbling over. “Surely, she’s had enough time to reflect and will be willing to listen to reason by now.” With a decisive nod, he added, “I’m going to see her. I can’t wait any longer.”Just as he was about to leave his office, a knock sounded at the door. Kris opened it to find Millie standing there.“You’re late,” he saud, a barbed edge to his voice.“Sorry,” Millie replied, stepping inside. “I had to go see Thalassa after hearing about what happened.”Kris’s ears perked up as he closed the door b

Walking back to his desk, Kris picked up his phone, which he'd nearly forgotten in his earlier haste to see Thalassa. “Who are you calling?” Alden asked as Kris began tapping rapidly on it. Kris didn’t respond, dialing a number and bringing the phone to his ear. He drummed his fingers impatiently on the desk as he waited for Smoke to answer. When the man finally picked up, Kris hissed, “I told you I wanted the report on Clark Morgan immediately, but it’s been five days already.” Smoke cleared his throat on the other end. “Forgive me, Mr. Miller, but my contacts overseas had a hard time searching for information on Morgan.” Kris’s nostrils flared. “So you don’t have anything yet?” “No,” Smoke clarified. “I do have something. I’m just trying to explain that—” “What are you waiting for, then? For me to roll out the red carpet before you come and give me the information?” “No, sir. I’m just on my way to your office now. I’ll be there in a few minutes.” “Make it quick,” Kris said,

“Lassa, the orders we’ve been receiving and the deadlines outweigh our capacity. There’s a lot of pressure right now because we need to deliver them all on time if we want to ensure customer satisfaction,” the man in front of her informed her.He was in charge of production across all the sewing factories of TT Fashion, which were spread across the entire country, with some on other continents.Thalassa bit her lip thoughtfully as she looked at the stats showing the ratio of orders to production capacity. She finally looked up at the man.“Andrew, talk to the procurement team. I need more factories set up—enough to meet the demand. Also, instruct the managers of all the factories to offer the workers as much incentive as possible. Increase each seamstress’s salary by 10%.”Andrew blinked in surprise. “But the seamstresses are already getting above-average pay for their work.”“It doesn’t matter,” Thalassa said flatly.Andrew cleared his throat. “If you don’t mind me making a suggestio

Thalassa gritted her teeth, fuming. “What is this, Kris? Let him go!” she demanded.Kris refused to release his grip, his eyes boring into Clark’s, but Clark’s eyes only seemed to mock him as he remained still, not trying to defend himself.“Kris!” Thalassa hissed, grabbing his arm and trying to pull him away.“Lassa, I’m so sorry. I tried to stop him. Should I call security?” Juana asked in a panic.“I know, Juana. And no, I can handle this,” Thalassa responded before turning her blazing eyes back to Kris.“Do you always have a penchant for violence, Kris? Because this isn’t a very good look,” Clark pointed out calmly.Gritting his teeth, Kris shoved Clark away, causing him to hit the couch with a thud. A hand shoved him back on the chest.“What is wrong with you? How dare you lay a hand on Clark?” Thalassa raged, smacking her hand on his chest. The smack didn’t hurt, but the fact that she was defending this man infuriated him.“I’m trying to protect you,” he gritted out.Thalassa sn

Thalassa’s brow rose slightly as she looked at Clark, waiting for his reply. Clark already had one prepared.“It’s simple. I just had a hunch. Thalassa already told me everything you and your family did to her. And knowing how important the awards show was, I had a feeling one of you would try something again. But I must admit, I was quite disappointed to find out it was you. I thought you were better than that.”Kris’s blood was above boiling point now, his fists clenched so tightly that his knuckles turned white. The only thing preventing him from punching the hell out of the man was that Thalassa was standing between them.“Just get out of here, Kris,” Thalassa finally spoke again, her expression hard. “Be the man you claim to be and accept your deeds for once in your life instead of always finding someone else to blame.”Kris was pained, knowing she thought so low of him, but he couldn’t give up.“Thalassa, please, I just want to protect you. He’s not who he seems to be,” he said,

“What’s wrong with my wife, doctor? Is she okay?” Kris questioned at the hospital after the doctor was done examining Thalassa. The doctor offered a reassuring smile. “Mr. Miller, please calm down. Your wife is perfectly fine.” Kris’s heart slowed just a little. “Then why did she faint?” Thalassa was sitting up on the hospital bed. Her brow furrowed, and her lips pressed into a thin line. “Doctor, it’s probably menopause,” she said matter-of-factly. “I haven’t had my period in two months. I know it happens earlier for some women.” She wasn't exactly pleased that she was having her menopause at 40 years old, but she had been expecting it. The doctor shook his head gently, a knowing smile on his face. “Mrs. Miller, it’s not menopause, I assure you.” That didn't help to assuage Kris's worry. “Then…what is it?” The doctor looked between them, savoring the moment before delivering the news. “Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Miller. You’re three months pregnant.” For a long second, sile

THIRTEEN YEARS LATERIt was the thirteenth anniversary of Kris and Thalassa’s remarriage, and as had become their tradition, it was a time for celebration with loved ones. The familiar hum of laughter and clinking silverware filled the air, creating a cozy, joyful atmosphere. At the adults’ table, Thalassa sat with her chin resting on her hand, her smile gentle as her gaze lingered on the people who had become their family. Alden and Luisa were seated across from her.Their three children—Andrew, the 12-year-old charmer; Matthew, the mischievous 9-year-old; and Emma, their 5-year-old firecracker—were occupying their seats at the kids’ table.Beside Alden and Luisa were Zeke and Millie, who had flown in from New York with their boisterous 10-year-old triplets, Max, Mia, and Miles.Alex and Tessa were sitting at the adults' table. No longer children, they'd blossomed into young adults. Alex had grown into a tall, broad-shouldered, and cool-headed teenager, much like his father. While Te

The car pulled into a luxurious beachfront resort, its white walls gleaming against the backdrop of the turquoise ocean.Thalassa blinked, the gentle sound of waves lapping against the shore stirring something deep in her memory. They were in Cabo San Lucas. The moment it clicked in her mind, her breath hitched. She glanced out at the golden sands stretching endlessly before her, the rugged cliffs towering in the distance, and the sparkling waters that seemed to stretch into infinity. This wasn’t just any place. It was the place she'd thought she and Kris would be going for their first honeymoon while getting married five years ago. But of course, right after their wedding, Kris had cancelled their honeymoon. Her chest tightened as a surge of emotions threatened to overwhelm her. She turned to Kris, her voice barely above a whisper. “You remembered.”Kris’s lips curved into a soft smile as he reached for her hand, brushing his thumb over her knuckles.“Of course I remembered,” he said

After his aunt disappeared from sight, Kris made his way back to Thalassa on the dance floor. She stood there, her eyes soft and grateful, watching him approach. Her expression said everything—how much his unwavering defense against Cynthia meant to her. When he reached her, she tilted her head and whispered, "Thank you."Kris cupped her cheek, brushing his thumb against her skin. “You don’t have to thank me, love,” he murmured.Straightening, Kris raised his voice to the room, announcing, “Alright, everyone! Let’s get back to celebrating!” The guests cheered, and almost immediately, the jovial atmosphere returned, laughter and clinking glasses echoing in the air.As the music played on, Kris slid his arms around Thalassa’s waist, pulling her close. Before she could react, he dipped his head, nuzzling her neck with deliberate passion. The soft tickle of his lips against her skin sent a shiver down her spine, and she let out a surprised laugh.“Kris,” she whispered, her laughter bub

Kris’s fingers trembled slightly as he slid the delicate band onto Thalassa's finger, his gaze locked onto hers. Her lips quivered, tears glistening in her eyes, and when she looked down at her hand adorned with his promise, she sniffled and quipped through her tears,“Now how am I supposed to top that vow?”A ripple of laughter echoed through the guests, softening the intensity of the moment. Kris chuckled along with them, his own eyes wet as he mouthed, I love you.Zeke stepped forward with the second ring, offering it to Thalassa with a small nod of encouragement. She took a deep breath, steadying her emotions as she began her vows.“Kris,” she started, her voice trembling but firm. “We’ve been through more than a lot of couples ever have since we fell in love. We've experienced more heartaches than a lot of couples have. We've cried more tears than a lot of couples have. But we’ve also survived more than most couples could ever dream of surviving. ONE MONTH LATER... The beach was transformed into a paradise, a breathtaking blend of romance and nature. Rows of white chairs with soft blue ribbons faced an altar made of driftwood, wrapped in delicate white fabric that fluttered in the breeze. Seashells and flowers adorned the aisle, their fragrance mingling with the salty ocean air. Lanterns filled with candles were set along the path, their flames flickering gently despite the sunlight. The waves whispered as they lapped the shore, a soothing background to the laughter and murmurs of the gathered guests. Among the guests sat a healthy Juana, her face radiant with happiness. Though she now had to walk with the help of a cane, her physiotherapist had assured her that she would soon be walking on her own two feet. Kris stood at the altar, his fingers clasped tightly in front of him. He adjusted his tie for the umpteenth time. “Dude, you're acting like you haven't done this before." Alden chuckled, standing to his left as his

Tessa pulled back from the hug first, her little hands clasped together as she looked up at Alex with wide, curious eyes. "Do you want to play with my dollhouse?" she asked, her voice light and full of hope. Alex tilted his head, thinking. "Okay," he said, then quickly added, "But we will play with my toy cars after. Okay?" "Okay!" Tessa agreed with a grin. "Let’s go!" The two children turned and, hand in hand, skipped off together, their laughter echoing. Kris and Thalassa watched them go, a shared warmth blooming between them as they stood side by side. Rising to his feet, Kris turned to Thalassa, noticing the shimmer of tears in her eyes. His brows knitted together in concern as he stepped closer. "What’s wrong?" he asked softly, brushing a stray tear from her cheek. Thalassa smiled, but it was tinged with a bittersweet emotion. "It’s just… Alex has always wanted a little sister. Ever since he was old enough to understand what that meant. I never thought I’d be able to give

Kris and Thalassa both knelt as Alex barreled into their arms, his small frame colliding with Thalassa first. His tiny arms wrapped tightly around her neck as he exclaimed, "Mummy! Despite himself, Kris suddenly felt a slight wave of anxiety. He had only spent a few days in New York with Alex weeks ago. Sure, they spoke on video calls almost daily, but what if the boy didn’t greet him with the same joy? What if Alex still felt distant toward him?But as if sensing his hesitation, Alex, while still hugging Thalassa, stretched one small arm toward Kris.“Daddy, come!” he said, his voice warm and inviting.Kris felt his chest swell with emotion. Kris was in Tessa's room, leaning against the doorframe, his gaze fixed on the small figure curled up in bed. Her breathing was soft and even, her chest rising and falling rhythmically under the fluffy pink comforter. Moments ago, she had clung to him, her small hands gripping his shirt as she begged him to promise over and over again that he was her daddy, her only daddy, and that he would never let the bad man take her away. Now, she slept peacefully, her expression serene, as though the weight of her fears had finally been lifted after his promises. The sound of soft footsteps behind him pulled Kris from his thoughts. He turned to see Thalassa standing in the doorway, a faint smile on her lips.“It’s done,” she said simply. stepping beside him. “That coward is in jail.”“Good."
