Charlotte sat down by the bed, holding the bottle in one hand and a cotton swab in the other. She stared fixedly at the area where she was going to apply the ointment for Zachary. Her heart was pounding like an insistent heavy drumming of rain beating upon a windowpane, and her hands shook intensely as if she was sieving flour.

“Are you going to help me with the application or not?” Zachary’s melodious and arrogant voice sounded all of a sudden.

“Uh, yeah... Yeah...” Charlotte’s lips widened and gave off a stiff grin. She tried to stabilize her trembling hands, inserted the cotton swab into the ointment bottle, and then stretched it toward Zachary inch by inch.

“Are you going to apply it just like this?” The mellow voice that sounded just like a musical instrument came from the same direction again.
