Chapter 5

Penulis: Sweet Beet
Morgan looked up and saw Sebastian standing at the door.

She lowered her voice and said, "Got it," before hanging up the call.

Sebastian strode over to the bedside and asked again, "Morgan, are you getting surgery?"

Morgan remained calm.

"It’s for my friend. Didn’t you say that whether I’m beautiful or not, you’d love me just the same? If that’s true, why would I put myself through the pain?"

Sebastian pulled her into his arms. "Morgan, promise me you’ll never do anything that puts you at risk. I couldn’t bear to lose you."

As they sat close together, Morgan easily noticed the faint marks on the back of his neck—traces of another woman.

Keeping her expression neutral, she gently pushed him away.

"You mentioned transferring all your shares to me before. Does that still stand?"

Sebastian’s gaze softened with affection. "Morgan, when have I ever gone back on my word to you?

"But before, no matter how I insisted, you wouldn’t accept them. What made you change your mind now?"

Morgan curled her lips slightly. "Didn’t you say that once I become a major shareholder, your mother won’t dare to mistreat me anymore?"

At the mention of Grace, guilt flickered in Sebastian’s eyes.

Without hesitation, he called his assistant to draft the transfer documents and have them sent to the hospital.

There were over a dozen documents to sign, and Morgan took the opportunity to slip her prepared divorce papers in at the very end, having him sign them all in one go.

With two major matters settled at once, the heaviness weighing on her heart lightened considerably.

Morgan remained in the hospital for another two days before being discharged.

On the day of her release, Sebastian arrived early to pick her up.

As soon as she opened the car door, her eyes landed on a torn pair of stockings lying in the passenger-side footwell.

A memory flashed in her mind—Luna’s social media post from the day before.

“My boyfriend was too impatient again. Another pair of stockings ruined. Hehe, but I guess it was worth it!”

She attached a screenshot of a five-figure bank transfer.

Morgan calmly shut the front passenger door and slid into the backseat instead.

Sebastian glanced at her through the rearview mirror. "Why are you sitting in the back?"

Now wasn’t the time to tear things apart just yet.

Suppressing the nausea churning in her stomach, Morgan replied, "The backseat is safer."

Sebastian chuckled. "Are you doubting my driving skills?"

Morgan gave a half-hearted response, brushing him off before falling silent.

Halfway through the drive, Sebastian’s phone suddenly rang.

He glanced at the caller ID before declining the call.

But the person on the other end was persistent, dialing again and again—ten, maybe fifteen times—until Sebastian had no choice but to pick up.

As soon as he answered, his expression shifted.

A moment later, he slammed on the brakes.

"Morgan, something urgent just came up at work. Can you take a cab home on your own?"

Morgan’s gaze lingered on his anxious face, and the corner of her lips curled into a faint, self-mocking smile.

"Sure."

At that moment, Luna updated her social media.

“Got into a car accident. Called my boyfriend right away, and he said he’d be here in a second. I love this feeling of knowing I can always count on him.”

The attached photo showed her looking pitiful, her ankle red and swollen.

Morgan opened the car door and stepped out.

Sebastian followed, personally hailing a cab for her.

Only after watching her get in did he rush off in the opposite direction.

As soon as Sebastian drove away, Morgan paid the fare and got out of the cab.

She walked.

For five hours, she followed the familiar roads of her childhood, step by step, until she reached her old family home.

Pushing open the creaky door, she stepped inside.

Underneath an apple tree in the yard, she retrieved a shovel and began digging.

Soon, her fingers brushed against the cool, metallic surface of a time capsule she had buried at eighteen.

Back then, she wrote down her dreams, sealing them away with the promise to unearth them ten years later together with Sebastian.

“I hope to marry Sebastian. I want to have two children with him and love him for a lifetime.”

That was the wish of eighteen-year-old Morgan.

Now, at twenty-eight, she tore the note to shreds.

In its place, she placed her signed divorce papers back into the capsule.

Just as she sealed it shut, hurried footsteps echoed from outside.

Sebastian arrived, panting, his face filled with urgency. "Morgan, why didn’t you go home? You weren’t answering your phone. I was going crazy looking for you." Morgan’s voice was calm. "I thought you weren’t planning to come home tonight." That single sentence struck him with guilt. "Morgan, I’m sorry. Work has been hectic lately. Once things settle down, I’ll make it up to you." Morgan curled her lips into a faint smile and handed him the time capsule. Sebastian turned it over in his hands, his fingers brushing against the lid. "Let me see—what was your wish?" Morgan pressed down on his hand, her expression serious. "Open it in five days. "I already fulfilled my past wish. Now I’ve put in a new one. Five days from now, I want you to help me make it come true." Sebastian nodded, his voice filled with indulgence. "Alright, no matter what it is, I’ll make it happen." Back at the house, Luna was sprawled on the couch, exuding the presence of a mistress who already took

"What did you say?" Her voice was so soft that Sebastian didn’t catch it. Morgan slipped free from his embrace, her tone light. "Nothing. I’ll cook dinner for you tonight." Their story began one summer when she was eighteen. Sebastian had cooked a meal for her. Afterward, he asked how it tasted. Morgan rattled off every compliment she could think of, showering him with praise. Blushing and stammering, he grabbed her hand. "Morgan, be my girlfriend. I’ll cook for you every day." At the time, she felt like the luckiest girl in the world. Her wish, the one she sealed inside the time capsule, came true. Eighteen was an age of innocence—naïve, sweet, filled with simple joys. Back then, even a single kiss was enough to make them both blush for hours. From that moment on, they were inseparable. When her parents died in a tragic accident, he was the one who stayed by her side, pulling her out of the depths of grief. When he took over the company and faced sabotage fro

Sebastian opened his eyes, rubbing his aching head. When his gaze landed on the clock hanging on the wall, he jolted awake. It was already 7 a.m. He promised Morgan he would be home for dinner. Panic surged through him as he scrambled to grab his clothes and put them on. From behind, Luna, still nude, wrapped her arms around his waist, pouting. "Mr. Cole, it’s still early. You should sleep a little longer." Sebastian, already frazzled, had no patience for her. He pushed her off without hesitation. Unwilling to let him go, Luna leaned in and kissed his neck. "But you promised you’d spend today with me." Flashes of the previous night came rushing back. Luna called him, crying, claiming she had fallen from the stairs and could barely move. Her sobs sounded so pitiful over the phone that his heart softened. He had only intended to take her to the hospital and return in time for dinner with Morgan—it shouldn’t have taken long. But when he arrived, he quickly realize

It was a divorce agreement.Sebastian’s mind went blank.Panic gripped him. What was going on? Morgan’s wish was to divorce him?His gaze dropped to the bottom of the document—his own signature was already there.Which meant her leaving wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment decision. She had planned this all along. Why?A sickening realization crept into his mind, sending a wave of fear crashing through his body.Just then, his phone rang.It was his assistant."Mr. Cole, we have a problem. Someone leaked explicit videos of you online. They’re spreading fast. If we don’t act quickly, this could severely damage the company’s reputation."Sebastian’s throat tightened. "What videos?""I’ll send them over now."A notification popped up.Sebastian opened the file. The moment the first clip played, his knees nearly buckled. One after another, they flashed across the screen—every intimate moment between him and Luna, in hotels, in his own home, and even in the hospital.Morgan knew about his affair.

Luna’s heart pounded with panic the moment she heard those words. All pretense vanished as she dropped to her knees at Sebastian’s feet. "Mr. Cole, I was wrong! I won’t do it again—please, don’t send me there!" Women in the red-light district had no dignity and rights—just an endless stream of clients and relentless abuse. It was the lowest fate imaginable. Sebastian kicked her aside. "If I don’t get Morgan back, you can forget about ever getting out!" Two bodyguards stepped forward, grabbing Luna by the arms and dragging her toward the door. She clawed at the doorway, her nails scraping against the frame as she shrieked, "Sebastian! You were the one who cheated! How dare you blame it all on me?" Sebastian’s roar drowned her out. "If you hadn’t seduced me in the first place, I never would have cheated!" Luna let out a bitter laugh. "Oh, cut the act, Sebastian. Your ‘devoted love’ is pathetic. If you truly loved Morgan, how could I have seduced you so easily?"You told me

Sebastian’s head snapped to the side from the force of the slap, but his gaze remained unwavering. "Morgan is more important to me than anything—more than the company, more than everything else in my life." Grace clutched her chest, gasping dramatically as if she were having a heart attack. "Are you trying to kill me with anger?" Sebastian’s sister, Victoria Cole, quickly stepped in to support their mother. Her voice was firm, laced with urgency. "Sebastian, Haputa is huge. If Morgan is determined to hide from you, it’s not something you can solve in a day or two. “Wouldn’t it be smarter to stabilize the company first, then go find her?"Are you really willing to watch Dad’s company get torn apart? Or let Mom collapse from the stress?" Sebastian could only watch helplessly as his flight took off without him. However, back at the company, he did nothing to stop the media frenzy. Instead, he let the scandal explode. His once-pristine public image—the devoted husband who

Sally looped her arm through Morgan’s. "We're best friends. There’s no need for ‘thank you’ between us."If that scumbag Sebastian saw you now, he’d regret it so much he’d want to drown himself in the ocean." Morgan felt nothing hearing Sebastian’s name again. There was no anger, no sadness—just complete indifference. "Whether he regrets it or not has nothing to do with me anymore." Saving him was her choice, and even after he betrayed her, she never regretted it. Because back then, she truly loved him, and he once truly loved her too. But love was fleeting, and in the end, there was no absolute right or wrong in relationships. His only mistake was pretending to be devoted while cheating behind her back. But that was all in the past. She had reclaimed her face, her dignity, and more than enough compensation from him. It was time to let it go. Sally tightened her hold on Morgan’s arm. "Exactly! Whatever happens to him doesn’t concern us anymore. “Come on, let’s hi

Sebastian grabbed the bottle and tilted his head back, letting the alcohol burn its way down his throat.Drinking had become his only escape.Only when he was drunk could he see the one person he longed for. When he opened his eyes again, he found himself lying in a hospital bed.He had no memory of how he got there.Throwing off the blanket, he tried to get up, but his legs were weak and unsteady. He nearly collapsed.Just then, the door swung open, and Grace rushed in, catching him before he hit the ground."Mom? What are you doing here? And why am I in the hospital?"Grace’s face was full of anger. "The cleaning lady found you unconscious at home and called me!"Sebastian shook off her hands. "I’m fine. I need to get to work. I need to go to Haputa and find Morgan."Grace threw a stack of medical reports onto the bed, her voice shaking with frustration."Sebastian, how much longer are you going to destroy yourself like this? You nearly died from alcohol poisoning! Do you even reali

But would Sebastian really let her leave? After that conversation they had, Grace stopped speaking coldly to Morgan. In fact, there was even a hint of warmth in her tone now. Sebastian’s recovery had also gone well. Within half a month, he was already able to get out of bed and walk. At first, Morgan visited him at the hospital frequently, but as time went on, she only went every few days. Soon, the one-month deadline arrived, and Sebastian was close to full recovery. Morgan booked a flight to Haputa for the next day. That evening, Sebastian arrived at her home with bags of groceries, a bitter smile on his face. “Morgan, I’m here to send you off with a meal.” That was what he said, but deep down, he was hoping this dinner would make her stay. For the past month, he tried everything to win her back, yet nothing had worked. This was his last chance. Morgan could see his intentions but didn’t stop him. A year ago, they didn’t finish the farewell dinner she prepared

Morgan was completely caught off guard by the sudden confession, momentarily at a loss for words."I… you…"Robert’s voice remained calm. "You don’t have to answer me now, and I’m not trying to pressure you. I just think confessions should be made in person, not through someone else."If you come back after a month, then tell me your answer, okay?""...Okay.""Good. Until then, let’s just stay as friends."After hanging up, Morgan got out of bed and freshened up.Not long after, she heard Grace’s sharp voice outside the room. The moment she arrived, Grace doted on her son endlessly, fussing over him as if he were on his deathbed. And when she learned Sebastian spent the entire night in pain without proper rest, she flew into a rage, threatening to raise hell with the doctors and nurses.Sebastian quickly intervened, stopping her before she caused a scene. The moment Grace noticed Morgan stepping out of the adjoining room, her expression soured."You slept peacefully while Sebastian was

"Why not? You’re both single—sounds like a perfect match to me! And if you become my sister-in-law, there won’t be any family drama between us. “Plus, I’ll finally have an ally against my mom. It’s a win-win situation!"Sally was getting more excited by the second, practically wishing the two could get married on the spot.Morgan sighed. "Sally, stop joking around. There’s no way your brother would ever be interested in me."Robert had never dated anyone, but with his background, he could have any woman he wanted. There was no reason for him to be interested in someone like her—a divorced woman who was once disfigured. But Sally’s next words left her completely stunned."What do you mean, no way? My brother likes you!"Morgan blinked. "What did you just say?"Had she misheard?Since she had already started, Sally decided to spill everything. "It’s true! He keeps pictures of you saved on his phone—I saw them myself."I even told him to confess before you left, but he kept stalling, sa

Morgan’s voice remained calm as she continued, "I once saved your life, and now you’ve saved mine. Sebastian, we owe each other nothing."Sebastian shook his head. "No, Morgan, I’ll never be able to repay what I owe you, not in this lifetime. Please… let me stay by your side, even if only to make amends.""But I don’t need your atonement, Sebastian."I’m doing fine now. My scars are gone. I’ve been happy in Haputa, surrounded by friends. If you force yourself to stay in my life, you’ll only bring me pain."Sebastian opened his mouth but hesitated. He knew letting go was the right thing to do—the only thing he should do.He felt like he was being torn apart at the thought of losing her forever and never being able to hold her again. After a long pause, he finally spoke. "One month. Just stay for one month. After that… if you still want to leave, I’ll personally see you off."Morgan looked at the man lying weak and battered in the hospital bed.In the end, she nodded.…That night, Sall

"Miss Hayes, can you come to the hospital? Sebastian just woke up. He wants to see you.""I’ll be there soon."Morgan immediately got in a car and rushed back. By the time she arrived, it was already late into the night. The moment Grace saw her, she scowled. "Do you have any idea what time it is? You ungrateful wretch. Did you deliberately drag your feet just to make us wait?"Morgan had been traveling nonstop and was already on edge. She had no patience left for Grace’s attitude."Mrs. Cole, I don’t owe you or your family anything. If you can’t adjust your tone, then I see no reason to stay."Grace shot back, "You don’t owe us? Sebastian ended up like this because he saved you!"Morgan turned to her, her gaze sharp. "And do you know who was behind the wheel?"Grace snapped, "I don’t care who it was! Whoever hurt my son won’t get away with it!""It was the maid he cheated on me with a year ago," Morgan said flatly. "So, tell me, why did this happen? Because of the mess Sebastian c

Morgan caught Grace’s wrist mid-air and forcefully shoved it aside. "I tolerated you out of respect because you were my elder. But now, we have nothing to do with each other. Don’t think you can throw your weight around like you’re still my mother-in-law." Grace’s face turned pale with fury. "Morgan Hayes, you heartless woman! My son nearly died saving you, and all you can think about is cutting ties with him? How can you be so heartless?" "He saved me because he wanted to. Whether he survives or not is up to fate." Morgan locked eyes with her. "That line sounds familiar, doesn’t it?" Back when she nearly died saving Sebastian, lying unconscious in the ICU, Grace said the exact same thing to Sebastian. Grace trembled with rage. "Fine, I said it. But Sebastian was always sincere with you! He married you despite all the backlash and disfigurement. He treated you like a queen!"He made a mistake that all men make! And what did you do? Disappear on him for a year, leaving him

The mere fact that she was inside that room eased the relentless cycle of anxiety, longing, and regret in his heart.Instead, for the first time in a long while, he felt a strange sense of peace. Seeing that Sebastian was completely unfazed by her words, Morgan didn’t waste any more effort on him. She treated him like he was invisible, walking past him without a second glance. She went downstairs, pulled out her phone, and called the construction crew she had arranged the night before. Then, she headed straight to Longridge Cemetery to relocate her parents' graves. The moment Sebastian realized what she was doing, panic set in. He rushed forward to stop her. "Morgan, what are you doing?" She looked at him coldly, a mocking smile curling on her lips. "You used my parents' graves to force me out of hiding. Have you already forgotten?" "Morgan, no, that’s not—" Sebastian’s explanation came to an abrupt stop. He loved Morgan too much to ever do something so cruel to he

Morgan scanned the bedroom, taking everything in before turning to Sebastian. "So, what if you brought all of this back?" Sebastian took her hand, his gaze sincere. "Morgan, I’ve recovered everything, except for the one thing that matters most. You. "Life is short, and we have to look forward. I can’t change the past, but I swear on my life that from now on, I will be loyal to you alone. I will never betray you again." Morgan pulled her hand away. "A broken mirror, no matter how carefully pieced back together, will always have cracks. It can never be whole again."And in my world, there’s no such thing as ‘starting over.’" She turned and walked away. Sebastian immediately followed. But Morgan treated him like air, ignoring his presence entirely as she left the villa and hailed a taxi to her hotel. Just as she stepped into the hotel lobby, she unexpectedly ran into someone from her past—Luna. Luna was dressed provocatively, clinging to a slightly overweight man who

Seeing Sebastian continuously bring up the past, Morgan decided to lay everything out clearly."Sebastian, I understand that everyone appreciates beauty. It’s no secret that men like attractive women. I get that."If you couldn’t stand looking at me, you could have told me. We could have divorced, or I could have undergone surgery to restore my face."But instead, you chose the most disgusting way to hurt me. You pretended to love me while cheating behind my back. It makes me sick."And now, you have the audacity to stand here and talk about love? To beg me for another chance? What makes you think you deserve it?"Tears slipped from Sebastian’s eyes."Morgan… back then, when you were critically injured, you spent an entire day and night in the operating room. I knelt outside, praying to every god in existence, begging them not to take you away."When you finally pulled through, your face was destroyed. I did think about asking you to get reconstructive surgery."But when I heard the do
