LAURA'S POV

I walked into his office and stopped in my tracks when his cold eyes met mine.

"What are you doing here?" he snapped angrily as he set his files on the table and stared at me like I was a ruthless woman, deserving no pity.

"I... wanted to explain myself, Bryan," I stuttered, and he scoffed loudly, laughing bitterly.

"Explain yourself? Isn't that a little too late right now?" he asked sarcastically.

"You hid things, Laura, not just things, you watched me break down every single time!" he yelled, and I looked away.

"I thought my involvement with the mafia was your reason for backing out of the relationship. You lied," he continued, bringing up the past.

"I had to do it," I mumbled as my eyes stung with tears.

"You're a slave to the mafia, Laura!" he roared angrily as he moved away from the table.

"I don't want you anymore. I've learned to live with the fact that I'll never matter to you in this journey of life," he said as his eyes filled with tears.
