"She comes every month?" Harry frowned. His face was scrunched up like he'd just swallowed a bug.

"That's right. We often get young couples since our motel operates near the college. It's a common sight."

"Thanks."

Harry left the motel in a hurry and sat in his car for a while. He felt as if the air around him was filthy. He rolled down his windows and took several deep breaths before calling Janice.

"Hello, Mom? Something came up, so I won't be able to make it home for dinner."

As the temperature dropped, Avery could only wrap herself in a wet towel, curling up in a corner to avoid the cold air blowing from the vent. Despite her efforts, she was still freezing.

Going silent then ringing again, her phone would ring intermittently. Eventually, Avery began to question her hearing. Perhaps she had been hallucinating the entire time.

If this continued, she might actually freeze to death tonight.
