Mia's POV

When I arrived home two days ago, my parents were not home. Apparently, they have traveled to some neighboring kingdom. There was no one to tell my good news. I was absolutely sure Penny wouldn't rejoice with me, so there was no use sharing the news with her.

The only other person was Xavier, but when I called at his place, he wasn't around. In fact, I had called at his house two days ago right after I returned from the palace, but he had not been around. I called on him two more times, but got the same result.

I felt like I would burst at the seams with joy if I didn't tell someone. Luckily, just as I was getting ready to go and check on Xavier a fourth time, my parents returned from their trip.

After I helped them with the load they brought back, I broke the news to them directly.

My mother stared at me, not daring to believe it. She cupped my face and looked deep into my eyes, as if trying to find some hint of a prank in my eyes. Obviously finding none, she put her hand

Xavier's POVI registered the scent a little too late and leaped, but the hare slipped from right under my paws and scampered off. I was the last line of defense, so that was a lost game. For the third time that day, I found myself letting the game escape from right under my nose. And it was honestly frustrating. My mind was wandering too much, trying to imagine what Mia would be doing right this instant at home. How did her date with the alpha prince go? Did she have a good time? Was she forgetting about me? How long are we going to last as friends at this rate? "Xavier!" the leader of the hunt's sharp voice snapped me out of my thoughts. Without knowing, I had descended into thoughts again. "You want us to starve this winter? You know how winter is around here," he told me. I couldn't talk, since I was in my wolf form. So I growled to show my frustration. The leader came to crouch at my front. He scratched me behind the ears. "What's up, attaboy? What's got you so messed up to

Selena's POVMy mother's face told me plain as words that something was seriously wrong, even before she spoke. My heart skipped a beat as I thought of everything that could have my mother worried. She was usually never worried, preferring to take everything in stride rather than worry unduly. So, for her to carry such a heavy face, the issue at stake must be very serious. "What's it, mother?" I asked her once she was within talking distance. "Hazel…" her voice trailed off. I could see she was struggling with how to break the news to me. A sense of foreboding filled me. What was it about Hazel? "What happened to Hazel?" I asked her. "Well, he's going to be crowned the Alpha King in less than a month's time!" my mother finally broke the news. I immediately became confused. Coronated as the alpha king? Hazel? How was it possible? "Wasn't he supposed to have a bride before he can be crowned as the Alpha King?" I asked my mother in confusion. "That's the problem. He has a bride!"

One month later…Mia's POVI took a deep breath and closed my eyes to calm myself.'You can do this,' I told myself. 'It's been a month. You're familiar with all the people there, and the manners expected of you," When I opened my eyes, Hazel's soft green eyes were looking at me with some amusement. "You won't ever stop being nervous, will you?" He asked me. I blushed a little. "This…this is different. It's the last thing that can come between us. I've got a right to be nervous," He chuckled. "You didn't think so at the coronation ceremony, and that is more important than this in my opinion. You know, it wouldn't really befit the Alpha King to have a nervous Luna, would it?" "No, it won't," I agreed and took his hands. It was time for the final party where I would be declared as his Luna, and introduced to his friends and all the nobility and other persons that mattered. I even heard some alphas from other kingdoms would also come. If that isn't something to be nervous about, th

Mia's POVThe hostility in that one sentence had me gasping. I had met with Hazel's mother before now, and we had gotten along pleasantly. But now, she sounded like she would like nothing better than to throw me out of the window. I took some involuntary steps back. But she covered the distance as fast as I created it. "Answer me," she gritted out. "You have not transformed?" My heart beating rapidly, I shook my head. "Are you saying no, or are you saying yes?" she asked. "In fact, don't reply. I want to see your wolf now!" she commanded. There was no time I ever felt ashamed of my inability to transform than at that moment. I wished the floor would just open up and swallow me. "I said I want to see your wolf!" Hazel's mother growled. Hazel stepped forward, but a raised finger from his mother froze him. I could feel the fury cascading from her in waves that threatened to wash me out of Hazel's life. "I…I can't transform, your Highness," I stuttered. She huffed. Without a word,

Mia's POVI waited with bated breath for Hazel to arrive at the room. He seemed to be taking too long, which was making me very anxious. The uncertainty of whether he would succumb to his parents' pressure was killing me, so I started pacing the room to get off some pressure. That was when the door opened and Hazel stood there, his face unreadable. For a full minute, I was frozen. We stared at each other wordlessly while my breath kept getting shorter and shorter till I stopped breathing completely. Yet, he said nothing, just looking into my face with that unreadable look. I could have burst with anticipation, and my face was actually heating up from holding my breath for too long. At last, I couldn't endure it any longer"Say something, Hazel! Please?" I begged. He sighed. "I'm sorry, Mia. But I can't have someone who hasn't transformed yet as my Luna. I can't compromise the throne because of love, though I wonder why I should love a liar like you. Why didn't you ever tell me you

Xavier's POVI received information that the hunting party would return that day, so I went to meet them. I had left them before the hunt was over, so it was only proper I helped them cart the game home. As it happened however, we had to sleep the night outside the capital city to avoid wandering the forest that bordered the city at night. It was a dangerous thing to do with all the fresh meat we carried on us. The next day, we walked into the capital city, and immediately smelled the excitement. The air hung heavy with it. Something had obviously happened. Something huge, and exciting. "What's up?" the hunt leader asked me. "Dunno. Everywhere was calm when I left," I shrugged in response. "Your guess is as good as mine." I was just as confused as he was. Just then, a man passed us. We stopped him and asked him what the problem was. "Well, Prince Hazel declared his luna yesterday,* the man replied. Was that it? I felt my heart break. So, Mia was really gone. Every of the rites

  • The Blood Moon Ascendance    Chapter 16

Selena's POVThe sunlight filtering in from the window woke me up, but I didn't get down from the bed. I stretched myself, feeling pleased with the world. With my eyes still closed, I replayed the events of yesterday in my head. Everything had gone smoothly. Perfectly, in fact. I didn't know it would be that easy. I chuckled at the memory of Mia scampering from the table with cheeks as red as blood. The weak peasant! In the end, she had no spine. None at all. I wished I had seen her pine for Hazel in what would have been their bedroom after she had run off, but I had to keep Hazel in the ballroom long enough to make her worried, so I had missed that. But still, I relished in the knowledge of her pain. And of course, I had trailed after Hazel subtly, so I had seen everything that transpired, though they didn't know it. Oh! How I loved the uncertainty on her face when Hazel had left without saying a word after his mother's tirade. She had seriously feared losing Hazel. And that's

  • The Blood Moon Ascendance    Chapter 17

Hazel's POVThe castle was abuzz with activities once again. Only three days ago, this same buzz had been there as we prepared to declare Mia Luna. Now, the buzz was here again, but for Selena. I didn't know whether to be happy or sad. To be honest, I didn't know what to feel anymore. I was happy, for finally getting the crown and becoming the alpha king. And I was happy to be offered a seat in Silver Hands without even soliciting for it. But the condition had been to get married, and that was what had me worried. My father had told me I had to get married before I could become the alpha king, even though it was not a tradition and I was of age. And now, Silver Hands had offered me a seat in their circle without being asked, and their condition too was for me to get married. A lot of people sure want to see me get married. Why would that be? That was what had me so worried. But there were no answers, so I put it out of my head and concentrated on making sure this Luna Declaration C

Mia's POVA stone struck true, pulverizing the creature's eye with a sickening crunch. With a howl of agony, the wolf collapsed to the ground, its lifeblood staining the earth beneath it. As the last vestiges of life faded from its eyes, I breathed evenly and transformed back. Running up quickly, I jumped and kissed my mate. The flames on his hair were hot but they were not unbearable and they died down as he held me and kissed me back. It took all my willpower to break free from him and let us breath. Strands of sticky saliva trailed our lips as we parted and I was flushed up to my ears, breathless."Mia?" He breathed, looking at me in surprise.I would have grinned at him if I were not too busy being stunned."Xavier?!" I exclaimed. "What in the world?! How? I thought...""You never did see me without my turban," he teased. And he was right come to think of it."So the memory loss...""I did lose my memory," he said, shaking his head. Mia's POV"Yeah," I grinned at her. "Now please someone tell me what is going on? How did everyone get here?""There is little time for that," Amelia said, a scary amount of hope alight in her eyes. "Alpha King Hazel has gone mad and he is turning people left and right corrupted." I could see that everyone was surprised to hear this. But the forest itself whispered to me that she spoke the truth. "But he also has a way to cure the corruption. It is a wand in beneath his throne."I smiled at her and gazed out at the Sulfur Hands gathered. I did not see Lycidas but that was not a problem. I was certain he was alright."Well guys, it is the night of the blood moon. I have to tell you that I've got a castle to storm so come on out all of you and get away already. How many times had I faced this creature? How many times had I died, only to wake and face it once again? The creature's death throes were violent and chaotic, its massive form convulsing with the last vestiges of life as it fought against the inevitable. Hazel's POVAs I stand in the dimly lit chamber, the vial of corrupted blood held delicately between my fingers, I can feel the weight of expectation bearing down upon me. Zion's eyes bore into me with a pensive gaze, his expression unreadable as he observes my every move. The air is heavy with anticipation, charged with the possibility of what is to come. With a steady hand, I bring the vial to my lips and drink deeply, allowing the thick, viscous liquid to slide down my throat. The taste is metallic, tinged with a hint of something dark and otherworldly. But as the last drop passes my lips, I feel no surge of power, no sudden transformation. I am not surprised.I never expected the corrupted blood to grant me any sort of supernatural abilities. My purpose in drinking it was not to gain power, but to align myself with the prophecy, to force my way into its narrative. And in that regard, I believe I have succeeded. As I lower the vial, I meet Zion's gaze with a sense of calm resolve.

???'s POV Amidst the vast expanse of the celestial realm, I found myself floating among the stars, my consciousness adrift in a sea of cosmic wonders. Suddenly, a commanding voice reverberated through the void, pulling me from my reverie with its otherworldly resonance."Little thing," the voice called out, its words echoing through the cosmos like the distant rumble of thunder. Startled, I responded tentatively, my voice barely a whisper in the vastness of space. "Who... who's there?"I was ignored as the voice continued to speak. I listened intently as the voice spoke of the troubles that plagued mortals, of the ebb and flow of life, and of the chaos that reigned in the mortal realm. The voice seemed to ramble on for a while, its words swirling around me like a whirlwind of cosmic energy. It spoke of mortals and their endless troubles, of how they always seemed to find new ways to bring chaos and destruction upon themselves. It seemed rather easy to notice that it was the 'eyeball'

???'s POVI opened my mouth to protest, to demand answers to the questions that burned within me, but she cut me off with a dismissive wave of her hand. "I don't want to hear it," she said coldly, her gaze hardening as she turned away from me. "Just go. Leave me alone. Go do whatever you want to. I don't care. My Lycidas is not here. Please, just... Stop. You truly are not Lycidas. I do not know who you are, but you are not my beloved."I stood there in stunned silence, the weight of her words hanging heavy in the air between us. Part of me wanted to press her for answers, to demand to know what she meant by all of this. But another part of me knew that it was futile – that she would not deign to repeat herself. And even though I could not claim to know much else, I knew somehow that she was hundred percent certain that I was not Lycidas. And not in a character or behavioural kind of way. As in, I was fundamentally not Lycidas. With a heavy heart, I turned and walked away, the sound o

Lycidas' POVThe soft glow of moonlight filtered through the curtains, casting a gentle illumination over Mia's room as I sat by her bedside, my fingers intertwined with hers as if holding onto a lifeline. The rhythmic rise and fall of her chest was the only indication of life, her face serene in slumber as she lay unconscious before me.I never realized how much I would miss her until now – the absence of her laughter, her vibrant energy, leaving a gaping hole in my heart that seemed impossible to fill. And yet, here she lay, so close yet so far, trapped in the grasp of an unknown darkness that threatened to consume her whole.I squeezed her hand gently, willing her to wake up, to return to me so that I could see the light in her eyes once more. But no matter how fervently I wished for her recovery, she remained still, her breathing steady but shallow, a silent reminder of the fragility of life.My mind drifted back to that fateful night when the ritual had gone awry, the memory of t

Amelia's POVI sat in the room with Alpha Gonzales and the injured Alpha Fenrir, my mind consumed by a whirlwind of thoughts and worries. The conversation between the two Alphas drifted in and out of my consciousness, the words fading into the background as I struggled to focus on the present moment. My thoughts kept returning to the letter I had received just before setting off with Alpha Gonzales—a missive that had filled me with a sense of foreboding unlike anything I had ever experienced before. The words were etched into my mind, haunting me with their ominous implications. In my mind's eye, I saw the image of the small mouse, my faithful messenger, as it hurried into my room with urgent purpose. Its tiny paws had trembled as it presented me with the letter, a sense of urgency emanating from its very being.
