Mia's POV
The castle loomed ahead. I almost felt like telling Hazel to stop, but I didn't want to risk his ire. Not after he saw me with Xavier in that position. For some reason, I was feeling very awkward because he caught me crying on Xavier's shoulder. He hadn't even reacted. Just raised an eyebrow and asked me who my friend was. I introduced them, and they seemed pretty friendly with each other. And Hazel has been nothing but nice and sweet ever since. But it only made me all the more awkward, with the result that our conversation was a little strained. I sighed internally. I wished I could just play my flute, it always calms me. And I was with it, because Hazel had requested I bring it along. So, obviously, I was going to play sometime today. Maybe in front of an audience. "Hey, relax, Mia. You're biting your lips again," Hazel told me, smiling gently. I smiled nervously and tried to relax, taking a deep breath to help me. Okay, Mia. You got this, calm down. I told myself. When I opened my eyes, Hazel's soft green eyes were looking into mine. He was smiling slightly. I blushed. "Does that help? Taking a deep breath and talking to yourself?" He asked me. I nodded. He smiled more widely. "You know, I do that when I'm nervous too," he said. I could tell he was trying to make me relaxed, so I decided to make an effort at conversation too. I raised an eyebrow in genuine surprise. "I didn't know that anything could make the prince nervous," I commented. He threw back his head and laughed softly, and for a moment, the horses went out of control. He brought them back under control in no time. Then he turned to me and winked. "Something like that. Unruly horses make me really nervous. One threw me down when I was about seven and would have stomped me to death, had my father not been there," he chuckled. "And oh, my father too. He can make anyone nervous. When he fixes his gaze on you…" he made a face that had me laughing. For a while, we both laughed together, carefree. He looked so handsome while laughing. So handsome and strong. His straight auburn hair, his chiseled jawline. They looked so good that I wanted to run my hand through his hair and trace his jawline. At that moment, my heart plopped down at his feet, though he didn't know it. It just slid right out of my chest and fell at his feet. And I thought how I could easily get used to looking at that face every waking day, laughing along with him at his jokes and tending to his hair when it gets messed up. Hazel kept me laughing with anecdotes about his childhood all the way to the castle that I didn't even know we were there till he jumped out of the carriage. "Here we are," he announced cheerfully. "Ready to meet my parents?" he asked cockily. I felt my heart jump at the thought. His parents were the Alpha King and Luna for goodness' sake. I wasn't sure I was ready to meet them just yet. "Um…no," I replied. "Can we leave that for later?" I watched his face fall in disappointment, and I wished I wasn't the cause. But then, I can't afford to embarrass myself and give a bad first impression. My mother would skin me alive. But more than that, his parents would probably be turned against me then, and might prohibit him from relating with me further. The thought gave me even more shivers. "Let's…let's…" I cast around for something to salvage the situation. "Let's do something else. Please?"He considered it for some time. "Are you shy?" He asked. I nodded nervously, my cheeks heating up. I expected him to laugh, or smile mockingly, or self importantly. And when his eyes softened with care and he came to lay a hand on my shoulders, I was both relieved and pleased. "I understand you're not used to all these. But you had better start getting used to it, because you're going to be visiting the palace a lot. My parents are wolves, just like you are," he told me softly. "Well, then, how about a tour of the palace?" He asked, looking deep into my eyes. "How about I play for you?" I replied. I really needed to calm my nerves. He smiled. "Well then, a tour first. Then you can play for me. How about that?"I had no problem with that. I stayed in the carriage while he called over a maid. "Can you tell the Alpha King and the Luna that Mr. Turner wants to see them for an urgent matter at his mansion?" He asked a maid. The maid went off and he turned to wink at me. Some time later, the Alpha King and the Luna hurried past in another carriage. "There. They're out of the way now," he told me with a mischievous smile. He took my hand in his and we went into the castle. It was the most beautiful place I had ever seen. The hallways with their high ceilings, the tapestries of wolves on the walls, the lamps and every other decoration. It was simply awesome. We chased each other as we ran up the stairs to what he told me was the North tower, then we held each other's hands on the roof and looked at the green world below our feet. I was scared of heights, but at that moment, with his palms in mine, I felt like I could jump off into the skies and soar. Was this love?He led me room after room, describing the various ornaments and furniture, and then we went to the courtyard."Here we are. Play for me," Hazel told me, smiling gently. "I miss your music," Smiling with pleasure, I started playing. Then I heard a gasp and opened my eyes. A lady was standing at the entrance to the courtyard, her eyes wide at the sight of Hazel at my feet, eyes closed, obviously entranced with my music. I watched her with some trepidation as she marched right up to me. "My name is Selena Turner, and you will leave my boyfriend right this instant," she spat at me.Mia's POVI watched with some trepidation as the lady marched right up to me so that the tip of our noses almost touched."Do you hear me?" she growled. Her eyes turned dark with rage, and I could see her wolf was so close to the surface, which sent me from trepidation to downright fear. "You stay away from my boyfriend. Who are you anyway?" She repeated, jabbing a finger at my chest. I took some steps back when the aura of her wolf's aggression washed over me in waves that had me suppressing a shudder. I knew a wolf protecting her territory when I saw one, and this one was doing so. Viciously. Why hadn't Hazel told me he has a girlfriend? Or was he just playing with me? Was I just some amusement to him? I felt my heartbreak at the thought. Lumps rose in my throat and tears sprang to my eyes. Through the corner of my eyes, I saw Hazel stand up. There was rage on his handsome face, rage I never thought could be there. "I…I…I didn't know he's your boyfriend —" I stuttered. "Of co
Hazel's POVI was literally walking on clouds as I strolled down the hallway. Everything was suddenly much more beautiful. The tapestries, the paintings, the ornaments, the chandeliers. Everywhere was full of vibrant colors and exhilarating scents. I suddenly found myself humming a tune. Formerly, I wouldn't have dared to hum in the hallway, as it wasn't befitting of a prince if a maid or servant should see him. But at the moment, I didn't care. I felt I would burst if I didn't let out the joy in some way. I was looking out from an arrow slit, savoring the beauty of the evening sky when I heard horse hooves, followed shortly by the sound of the portcullis being raised. I knew it was my parents, back from the wild goose chase I had sent them. But I don't care, even though I knew it was likely my father would flay me. Nothing could dampen the joy in my heart. As a matter of fact, I thought I had better meet them head on and break the news. Perhaps, that way, I may be able to diffuse
Mia's POVWhen I arrived home two days ago, my parents were not home. Apparently, they have traveled to some neighboring kingdom. There was no one to tell my good news. I was absolutely sure Penny wouldn't rejoice with me, so there was no use sharing the news with her. The only other person was Xavier, but when I called at his place, he wasn't around. In fact, I had called at his house two days ago right after I returned from the palace, but he had not been around. I called on him two more times, but got the same result.I felt like I would burst at the seams with joy if I didn't tell someone. Luckily, just as I was getting ready to go and check on Xavier a fourth time, my parents returned from their trip. After I helped them with the load they brought back, I broke the news to them directly. My mother stared at me, not daring to believe it. She cupped my face and looked deep into my eyes, as if trying to find some hint of a prank in my eyes. Obviously finding none, she put her hand
Xavier's POVI registered the scent a little too late and leaped, but the hare slipped from right under my paws and scampered off. I was the last line of defense, so that was a lost game. For the third time that day, I found myself letting the game escape from right under my nose. And it was honestly frustrating. My mind was wandering too much, trying to imagine what Mia would be doing right this instant at home. How did her date with the alpha prince go? Did she have a good time? Was she forgetting about me? How long are we going to last as friends at this rate? "Xavier!" the leader of the hunt's sharp voice snapped me out of my thoughts. Without knowing, I had descended into thoughts again. "You want us to starve this winter? You know how winter is around here," he told me. I couldn't talk, since I was in my wolf form. So I growled to show my frustration. The leader came to crouch at my front. He scratched me behind the ears. "What's up, attaboy? What's got you so messed up to
Selena's POVMy mother's face told me plain as words that something was seriously wrong, even before she spoke. My heart skipped a beat as I thought of everything that could have my mother worried. She was usually never worried, preferring to take everything in stride rather than worry unduly. So, for her to carry such a heavy face, the issue at stake must be very serious. "What's it, mother?" I asked her once she was within talking distance. "Hazel…" her voice trailed off. I could see she was struggling with how to break the news to me. A sense of foreboding filled me. What was it about Hazel? "What happened to Hazel?" I asked her. "Well, he's going to be crowned the Alpha King in less than a month's time!" my mother finally broke the news. I immediately became confused. Coronated as the alpha king? Hazel? How was it possible? "Wasn't he supposed to have a bride before he can be crowned as the Alpha King?" I asked my mother in confusion. "That's the problem. He has a bride!"
One month later…Mia's POVI took a deep breath and closed my eyes to calm myself.'You can do this,' I told myself. 'It's been a month. You're familiar with all the people there, and the manners expected of you," When I opened my eyes, Hazel's soft green eyes were looking at me with some amusement. "You won't ever stop being nervous, will you?" He asked me. I blushed a little. "This…this is different. It's the last thing that can come between us. I've got a right to be nervous," He chuckled. "You didn't think so at the coronation ceremony, and that is more important than this in my opinion. You know, it wouldn't really befit the Alpha King to have a nervous Luna, would it?" "No, it won't," I agreed and took his hands. It was time for the final party where I would be declared as his Luna, and introduced to his friends and all the nobility and other persons that mattered. I even heard some alphas from other kingdoms would also come. If that isn't something to be nervous about, th
Mia's POVThe hostility in that one sentence had me gasping. I had met with Hazel's mother before now, and we had gotten along pleasantly. But now, she sounded like she would like nothing better than to throw me out of the window. I took some involuntary steps back. But she covered the distance as fast as I created it. "Answer me," she gritted out. "You have not transformed?" My heart beating rapidly, I shook my head. "Are you saying no, or are you saying yes?" she asked. "In fact, don't reply. I want to see your wolf now!" she commanded. There was no time I ever felt ashamed of my inability to transform than at that moment. I wished the floor would just open up and swallow me. "I said I want to see your wolf!" Hazel's mother growled. Hazel stepped forward, but a raised finger from his mother froze him. I could feel the fury cascading from her in waves that threatened to wash me out of Hazel's life. "I…I can't transform, your Highness," I stuttered. She huffed. Without a word,
Mia's POVI waited with bated breath for Hazel to arrive at the room. He seemed to be taking too long, which was making me very anxious. The uncertainty of whether he would succumb to his parents' pressure was killing me, so I started pacing the room to get off some pressure. That was when the door opened and Hazel stood there, his face unreadable. For a full minute, I was frozen. We stared at each other wordlessly while my breath kept getting shorter and shorter till I stopped breathing completely. Yet, he said nothing, just looking into my face with that unreadable look. I could have burst with anticipation, and my face was actually heating up from holding my breath for too long. At last, I couldn't endure it any longer"Say something, Hazel! Please?" I begged. He sighed. "I'm sorry, Mia. But I can't have someone who hasn't transformed yet as my Luna. I can't compromise the throne because of love, though I wonder why I should love a liar like you. Why didn't you ever tell me you
Mia's POVA stone struck true, pulverizing the creature's eye with a sickening crunch. With a howl of agony, the wolf collapsed to the ground, its lifeblood staining the earth beneath it. As the last vestiges of life faded from its eyes, I breathed evenly and transformed back. Running up quickly, I jumped and kissed my mate. The flames on his hair were hot but they were not unbearable and they died down as he held me and kissed me back. It took all my willpower to break free from him and let us breath. Strands of sticky saliva trailed our lips as we parted and I was flushed up to my ears, breathless."Mia?" He breathed, looking at me in surprise.I would have grinned at him if I were not too busy being stunned."Xavier?!" I exclaimed. "What in the world?! How? I thought...""You never did see me without my turban," he teased. And he was right come to think of it."So the memory loss...""I did lose my memory," he said, shaking his head. "But I guess could say that an eyeball helped me
Mia's POVHe was no corrupted - he was much worse. In a desperate bid to end the chaos, I shifted into my wolf form, my white fur shimmering in the dim light of the throne room. With a newfound agility, I darted around the monstrous creature, my speed unmatched as I evaded its savage blows. But Hazel was relentless, his attacks coming fast and furious as he sought to overpower me with sheer brute force. With each passing moment, the battle grew more intense, the clash of claw and sinew echoing throughout the chamber.I ducked and weaved, narrowly avoiding each blow as I fought to keep the creature at bay. But despite my best efforts, I could feel my strength waning, the relentless pace of our battle taking its toll on my weary body..The battle raged on, each blow striking home with deadly precision as I fought to bring Hazel to his knees. With a primal snarl, I launched myself at the creature once more, my claws tearing through its flesh with savage ferocity. With one final, decisiv
Mia's POV"Yeah," I grinned at her. "Now please someone tell me what is going on? How did everyone get here?""There is little time for that," Amelia said, a scary amount of hope alight in her eyes. "Alpha King Hazel has gone mad and he is turning people left and right corrupted." I could see that everyone was surprised to hear this. But the forest itself whispered to me that she spoke the truth. "But he also has a way to cure the corruption. It is a wand in beneath his throne."I smiled at her and gazed out at the Sulfur Hands gathered. I did not see Lycidas but that was not a problem. I was certain he was alright."Well guys, it is the night of the blood moon. I have to tell you that I've got a castle to storm so come on out all of you and get away already. You've all done your part for me. Let me do mine for you."I saw them off and turned to face the vague direction of the palace. The eyeball (I could not get its name) had told me; Blood Moon prophecy Layer 5: The Inheritor shall
Mia's POVWith a surge of adrenaline, I plunged the knife into the creature's main body, my hands steady despite the trembling of my limbs. The blade sank deep into its flesh, eliciting a guttural roar of pain as the creature thrashed and writhed beneath me. Each movement was a dance of desperation, a desperate bid for survival against an opponent that seemed unstoppable. But even as I fought with all the strength and skill I could muster, I could feel the tendrils of exhaustion creeping into my limbs, sapping my strength and clouding my thoughts. How many times had I faced this creature? How many times had I died, only to wake and face it once again? The creature's death throes were violent and chaotic, its massive form convulsing with the last vestiges of life as it fought against the inevitable. But I was relentless, my resolve unshakeable as I drove the knife deeper and deeper into its flesh, refusing to let up until the creature lay still and silent beneath me.With a final, ragg
Hazel's POVAs I stand in the dimly lit chamber, the vial of corrupted blood held delicately between my fingers, I can feel the weight of expectation bearing down upon me. Zion's eyes bore into me with a pensive gaze, his expression unreadable as he observes my every move. The air is heavy with anticipation, charged with the possibility of what is to come. With a steady hand, I bring the vial to my lips and drink deeply, allowing the thick, viscous liquid to slide down my throat. The taste is metallic, tinged with a hint of something dark and otherworldly. But as the last drop passes my lips, I feel no surge of power, no sudden transformation. I am not surprised.I never expected the corrupted blood to grant me any sort of supernatural abilities. My purpose in drinking it was not to gain power, but to align myself with the prophecy, to force my way into its narrative. And in that regard, I believe I have succeeded. As I lower the vial, I meet Zion's gaze with a sense of calm resolve.
???'s POV Amidst the vast expanse of the celestial realm, I found myself floating among the stars, my consciousness adrift in a sea of cosmic wonders. Suddenly, a commanding voice reverberated through the void, pulling me from my reverie with its otherworldly resonance."Little thing," the voice called out, its words echoing through the cosmos like the distant rumble of thunder. Startled, I responded tentatively, my voice barely a whisper in the vastness of space. "Who... who's there?"I was ignored as the voice continued to speak. I listened intently as the voice spoke of the troubles that plagued mortals, of the ebb and flow of life, and of the chaos that reigned in the mortal realm. The voice seemed to ramble on for a while, its words swirling around me like a whirlwind of cosmic energy. It spoke of mortals and their endless troubles, of how they always seemed to find new ways to bring chaos and destruction upon themselves. It seemed rather easy to notice that it was the 'eyeball'
???'s POVI opened my mouth to protest, to demand answers to the questions that burned within me, but she cut me off with a dismissive wave of her hand. "I don't want to hear it," she said coldly, her gaze hardening as she turned away from me. "Just go. Leave me alone. Go do whatever you want to. I don't care. My Lycidas is not here. Please, just... Stop. You truly are not Lycidas. I do not know who you are, but you are not my beloved."I stood there in stunned silence, the weight of her words hanging heavy in the air between us. Part of me wanted to press her for answers, to demand to know what she meant by all of this. But another part of me knew that it was futile – that she would not deign to repeat herself. And even though I could not claim to know much else, I knew somehow that she was hundred percent certain that I was not Lycidas. And not in a character or behavioural kind of way. As in, I was fundamentally not Lycidas. With a heavy heart, I turned and walked away, the sound o
Lycidas' POVThe soft glow of moonlight filtered through the curtains, casting a gentle illumination over Mia's room as I sat by her bedside, my fingers intertwined with hers as if holding onto a lifeline. The rhythmic rise and fall of her chest was the only indication of life, her face serene in slumber as she lay unconscious before me.I never realized how much I would miss her until now – the absence of her laughter, her vibrant energy, leaving a gaping hole in my heart that seemed impossible to fill. And yet, here she lay, so close yet so far, trapped in the grasp of an unknown darkness that threatened to consume her whole.I squeezed her hand gently, willing her to wake up, to return to me so that I could see the light in her eyes once more. But no matter how fervently I wished for her recovery, she remained still, her breathing steady but shallow, a silent reminder of the fragility of life.My mind drifted back to that fateful night when the ritual had gone awry, the memory of t
Amelia's POVI sat in the room with Alpha Gonzales and the injured Alpha Fenrir, my mind consumed by a whirlwind of thoughts and worries. The conversation between the two Alphas drifted in and out of my consciousness, the words fading into the background as I struggled to focus on the present moment. My thoughts kept returning to the letter I had received just before setting off with Alpha Gonzales—a missive that had filled me with a sense of foreboding unlike anything I had ever experienced before. The words were etched into my mind, haunting me with their ominous implications. In my mind's eye, I saw the image of the small mouse, my faithful messenger, as it hurried into my room with urgent purpose. Its tiny paws had trembled as it presented me with the letter, a sense of urgency emanating from its very being. With trembling hands, I had broken the seal and unfolded the parchment, my heart sinking as I read the words inscribed upon it.The once cryptic message had become alarmingly
