Mia's POV

My head turned so fast my neck cricked. The pain shot right into my head, filling it up. But even holding my neck in pain, I still managed to gasp out

"My father was the alpha of Blood Moon pack?"

Mabel nodded solemnly. "That's right. You're a princess,"

I took a moment to absorb that revelation. I had been right; this was the revelation of my lifetime. When Mabel had called me the son of Alpha Megan and Luna Jessica yesterday morning, I had thought that perhaps, my parents were the alpha and Luna of another pack and I was their lost child.

That was how I had imagined my lift from grass to grace whenever the pain from Penny became too much, after all. But now, Mabel is telling me that they had actually been the alpha and luna of my own pack, the pack where I was mistreated?

"What happened to them then?" I asked. "How did they come to this state? Corrupted, is it?"

Mabel sighed. "I will tell you when we are in the house. But for now, let's inculcate you into the horrors o

Two months laterUnknown POVFootsteps?I listened closely. Yes, footsteps. And it was coming this way. I quickly pulled the lower folds of my turban to cover my face. I wouldn't find it very pleasant if I were caught with my face exposed when I was supposed to be training. But even with the threat of punishment, I couldn't resist indulging myself. Soon, the footsteps came into the room and paused, and I knew whoever it was must be accessing me, trying to determine my level of alertness. "Who is that?" I asked, though my eyes were still closed. There was no answer, but I hadn't expected an answer. Neither did I expect an answer when I called out the second time."I know you're there. Identify yourself!" At last, I sighed. "If you don't identity yourself, you would be forced to fight me," Still no answer, just like I expected. Slipping a knife out of my sleeves, I threw it to the last spot I had heard the footsteps without even aiming. Subtly, very subtly, the person shifted some

Unknown POVI stood on a hill and looked down at the Blood Moon pack. From this distance, I could see the whole of the pack, though each city looked about the size of two palms. There were six cities in a horseshoe shape, surrounding the capital city. Between the cities and the capital city was a forest, running the whole curve of the horseshoe and spilling out at the open end into a very dense forest that stretched farther than my eyes could see. I have been told that in that forest resided a branch of the Sulfur Hands that consisted of just four women and two men. It has always fascinated me. How are they able to tarnish the silver in a medium sized pack with such a small number? I would have very much loved to visit that branch had I been left to my own devices, but that was not my destination. My destination was the capital city. According to the alpha, the very first part of the prophecy had stated that I must be completed before I can accomplish my destiny. And that my mate w

Unknown POVWhen I woke, I nearly leaped in shock. I had tried to keep half awake through the night in case some wild beasts got hungry, but I had fallen into deep sleep somehow without even knowing it. Sighing, I leaped down from the tree and returned to my human form. I thanked the goddess I had passed the night safely, though I slept deeply. I followed the sound of water to a clear stream which I used to rinse my mouth and wash my limbs. The water was a little cold from the recent snow, but it wasn't enough to bother me. After that, I chewed the mint leaves I had wrapped in the folds of my turban. It was time to continue the journey. I couldn't stop the excitement from building in me. I was so close to my dreams now. I had always dreamed about finding a mate, and now, it was about to happen. I just needed to cross the forest and I would be in the capital city. Changing my mind, I wolfed out and ran into the thick forest. Luckily, I didn't encounter any beast big enough to engage

Unknown POV"What?" I asked in confusion. "You heard me," the lady repeated, her eyes still searching every face that passed within miles of us furtively. "Wait…one is executed for speaking the truth in this pack?" I asked in shock. The lady didn't reply. She threw her face away and tapped her feet on the floor impatiently. I could see she was tense and nervous. She hadn't been when we started walking, so I wondered what got her so tense and nervous all of a sudden. Just as the silence started getting awkward, the lady said"Well, if you don't have anything else you want to know…" And made to walk away. "How about your pint?" I called out. "Worth less than my life, stranger." she called back. I sighed, but I was getting intrigued. This little pack was getting more and more mysterious. Seems a lot of changes had taken place here that my alpha was not aware of. He would appreciate it if I got him some useful info, so I was determined to get the full picture of what was happening

Mia's POVI stood before the tree, sizing it up. It was taller than the ones I was used to, but Maya had said it was time to move on to higher levels, so I guess I have got to climb it."Thinking of ways to back down, you wimp?" Maya taunted from the top branch. Her voice carried down with the wind, giving it a kind of distant halo in the morning air."You know that tactic never works on me, even if it works like hell on Martha!" I called back. Her laughter carried down. "You know that sentence is a lie, even if you have been saying it for two months!"I sighed, irritated. She was right. I keep saying that every time she insults or mocks me, but the truth is that she rarely insults me when it won't hurt. She always picked the right moment when I was feeling frustrated, or very likely to snap, and used the insults to push me to new feats.I wasn't about to tell her that to her face though, even if we both know that. Ignoring her repeated jabs at my inability to transform, and my being

Mia's POV"Are you sure?" She asked, the corners of her lips twitching. I immediately got suspicious. "Yeah?" I replied cautiously.Maya smiled sweetly. "I need an answer dear. That doesn't count for one." I cocked my head as I contemplated her. What new horrors did she have in mind? I must admit that Mason's training was always boring, but they were never as tasking as Maya's. And I always knew what to expect. But not Maya. "What do you have in mind?" I asked suspiciously. The sweet smile remained firmly in place and I got even more suspicious. "Oh, the usual. The good old running to build your stamina that you've been used to." Maya's sweet smile betrayed the mischievous undertone beneath it.I instantly knew there was nothing usual, or good, or old either about the running. Maya had a knack for turning the most basic activities into grueling challenges. My previous experiences with her made it clear that her version of "running to build stamina" was more likely a marathon thro

  • The Blood Moon Ascendance    Chapter 35

Maya's POVI listened to Mia speak, and didn't know what to tell her. She had valid reasons to be riled up. It turned out that the previous night, she had had a little chat with Mabel, who didn't think she was doing her absolute best. The fact was, Mabel was too hard on Mia. And sometimes, I am tempted to think that I am too. Maybe, I am. But we're all anxious about her, and us as well. She is the only hope we've got if we ever have to redeem our loved ones. All of us in this branch of Sulfur Hands have had our loved ones corrupted. It was another kind of pain, watching our loved ones in a fate worse than death. Our only hope of them ever recovering was in the savior prophesied. So, we're naturally hard on her.I made up my mind to let up on Mia for the next few days though. She needs it. Though the prophecy had clearly stated she wouldn't have a wolf till the blood moon, she still couldn't let go of the mindset that she was inferior to us that already had our wolves."Sorry dear," I

  • The Blood Moon Ascendance    Chapter 36

Mia's POVWhen I came out, they were walking towards the chasm. As I watched, they transformed into their wolves and leaped over the chasms. There was something suspicious about the way they looked back to the cottage before bolting away and I instantly decided to follow them. It seemed I would be needing those stealth tricks Maya taught me sooner than she thought. Just as I reached the chasm, I had second thoughts and went back to get those claw gloves they had made me formerly. Who knows, but I might be needing them.Curiosity and a sense of exclusion washed over me when I returned to the chasm and couldn't find them. Why must they keep protecting me like I was some weak stick that would snap at the slightest touch? And worse, they insult my intelligence by thinking that I don't know about all the time they sneak out on some assignment or the other. I had always let them get away with it because I had always felt, despite my indignation, that I might be a burden. But not today.

Mia's POVA stone struck true, pulverizing the creature's eye with a sickening crunch. With a howl of agony, the wolf collapsed to the ground, its lifeblood staining the earth beneath it. As the last vestiges of life faded from its eyes, I breathed evenly and transformed back. Running up quickly, I jumped and kissed my mate. The flames on his hair were hot but they were not unbearable and they died down as he held me and kissed me back. It took all my willpower to break free from him and let us breath. Strands of sticky saliva trailed our lips as we parted and I was flushed up to my ears, breathless."Mia?" He breathed, looking at me in surprise.I would have grinned at him if I were not too busy being stunned."Xavier?!" I exclaimed. "What in the world?! How? I thought...""You never did see me without my turban," he teased. And he was right come to think of it."So the memory loss...""I did lose my memory," he said, shaking his head. How did everyone get here?""There is little time for that," Amelia said, a scary amount of hope alight in her eyes. "Alpha King Hazel has gone mad and he is turning people left and right corrupted." I could see that everyone was surprised to hear this. But the forest itself whispered to me that she spoke the truth. "But he also has a way to cure the corruption. It is a wand in beneath his throne."I smiled at her and gazed out at the Sulfur Hands gathered. I did not see Lycidas but that was not a problem. I was certain he was alright."Well guys, it is the night of the blood moon. I have to tell you that I've got a castle to storm so come on out all of you and get away already. The blade sank deep into its flesh, eliciting a guttural roar of pain as the creature thrashed and writhed beneath me. Each movement was a dance of desperation, a desperate bid for survival against an opponent that seemed unstoppable. But even as I fought with all the strength and skill I could muster, I could feel the tendrils of exhaustion creeping into my limbs, sapping my strength and clouding my thoughts. How many times had I faced this creature? How many times had I died, only to wake and face it once again? The creature's death throes were violent and chaotic, its massive form convulsing with the last vestiges of life as it fought against the inevitable. • The Blood Moon Ascendance    Chapter 192

Hazel's POVAs I stand in the dimly lit chamber, the vial of corrupted blood held delicately between my fingers, I can feel the weight of expectation bearing down upon me. Zion's eyes bore into me with a pensive gaze, his expression unreadable as he observes my every move. The air is heavy with anticipation, charged with the possibility of what is to come. With a steady hand, I bring the vial to my lips and drink deeply, allowing the thick, viscous liquid to slide down my throat. The taste is metallic, tinged with a hint of something dark and otherworldly. But as the last drop passes my lips, I feel no surge of power, no sudden transformation. I am not surprised.I never expected the corrupted blood to grant me any sort of supernatural abilities. My purpose in drinking it was not to gain power, but to align myself with the prophecy, to force my way into its narrative. And in that regard, I believe I have succeeded. As I lower the vial, I meet Zion's gaze with a sense of calm resolve.

???'s POV Amidst the vast expanse of the celestial realm, I found myself floating among the stars, my consciousness adrift in a sea of cosmic wonders. Suddenly, a commanding voice reverberated through the void, pulling me from my reverie with its otherworldly resonance."Little thing," the voice called out, its words echoing through the cosmos like the distant rumble of thunder. Startled, I responded tentatively, my voice barely a whisper in the vastness of space. "Who... who's there?"I was ignored as the voice continued to speak. I listened intently as the voice spoke of the troubles that plagued mortals, of the ebb and flow of life, and of the chaos that reigned in the mortal realm. The voice seemed to ramble on for a while, its words swirling around me like a whirlwind of cosmic energy. It spoke of mortals and their endless troubles, of how they always seemed to find new ways to bring chaos and destruction upon themselves. It seemed rather easy to notice that it was the 'eyeball'

???'s POVI opened my mouth to protest, to demand answers to the questions that burned within me, but she cut me off with a dismissive wave of her hand. "I don't want to hear it," she said coldly, her gaze hardening as she turned away from me. "Just go. Leave me alone. Go do whatever you want to. I don't care. My Lycidas is not here. Please, just... Stop. You truly are not Lycidas. I do not know who you are, but you are not my beloved."I stood there in stunned silence, the weight of her words hanging heavy in the air between us. Part of me wanted to press her for answers, to demand to know what she meant by all of this. But another part of me knew that it was futile – that she would not deign to repeat herself. And even though I could not claim to know much else, I knew somehow that she was hundred percent certain that I was not Lycidas. And not in a character or behavioural kind of way. As in, I was fundamentally not Lycidas. With a heavy heart, I turned and walked away, the sound o

Lycidas' POVThe soft glow of moonlight filtered through the curtains, casting a gentle illumination over Mia's room as I sat by her bedside, my fingers intertwined with hers as if holding onto a lifeline. The rhythmic rise and fall of her chest was the only indication of life, her face serene in slumber as she lay unconscious before me.I never realized how much I would miss her until now – the absence of her laughter, her vibrant energy, leaving a gaping hole in my heart that seemed impossible to fill. And yet, here she lay, so close yet so far, trapped in the grasp of an unknown darkness that threatened to consume her whole.I squeezed her hand gently, willing her to wake up, to return to me so that I could see the light in her eyes once more. But no matter how fervently I wished for her recovery, she remained still, her breathing steady but shallow, a silent reminder of the fragility of life.My mind drifted back to that fateful night when the ritual had gone awry, the memory of t

Amelia's POVI sat in the room with Alpha Gonzales and the injured Alpha Fenrir, my mind consumed by a whirlwind of thoughts and worries. The conversation between the two Alphas drifted in and out of my consciousness, the words fading into the background as I struggled to focus on the present moment. My thoughts kept returning to the letter I had received just before setting off with Alpha Gonzales—a missive that had filled me with a sense of foreboding unlike anything I had ever experienced before. The words were etched into my mind, haunting me with their ominous implications. In my mind's eye, I saw the image of the small mouse, my faithful messenger, as it hurried into my room with urgent purpose. Its tiny paws had trembled as it presented me with the letter, a sense of urgency emanating from its very being. With trembling hands, I had broken the seal and unfolded the parchment, my heart sinking as I read the words inscribed upon it.The once cryptic message had become alarmingly
