It was often played by kits as they learned the sneaky side of being an Orangelo. However, getting through the rounds of dice tosses with varying numbers being considered "sour" and therefore removing dice from play, was another matter.
The rules beyond the end goal were kind of made up as you went. There were literally hundreds of variants to the Sours, from which number was showing on the dice to adding up the total value of dice that were touching to much more complicated mathematical formulas involving positions and angles of the dice. Some of the rules were made up on the spot and given names by the creator. Jinx had created no less than twenty variations himself. Several of them, he knew for a fact, were used pretty commonly around his home village.
