All eyes were on him. The round table of Eric had grown silent and the silence persisted for a moment. Eric looked at him, surprisingly but that didn't stop him from taking a sip from his cup.
“Yeah, I've changed my mind,” he said again, his voice firm. “She needs to be punished for her carelessness.”
Leo's heart sank at his decision. His hands curled into fists beneath the tables, his knuckles turning white from the pressure. He wanted to speak, to defend her but there was no way he could do that, not when his father was around.
But the rage inside him was unmistakable. Ethan, sensing his frustration, discreetly reached under the table and placed a steadying hand on Leo's clenched fist. He turned his head to notice Ethan and Ethan made a gesture in which he understood too well.
Leo but his lip, his eyes flickered and landed on Aiden. They were locked on him. Inside he was boiling but he forced himself to stay composed.
Isabella, seated next to Aiden, could barely hide her satisfaction. A small triumphant smile crept onto her lips as she sat a little straighter in her chair. This was exactly what she had wanted. Lucy's punishment would not only serve as a reminder of her place but would also make Leo's affection for her seem foolish. Isabella's eyes glimmered with cruel delight as she glanced toward Aiden.
Eric, however, was still surprised at his sudden change of decision. He leaned forward slightly, studying him with a curious expression. “What made you change your mind, Aiden?” Eric asked, his tone more amused than concerned.
Aiden didn't hesitate. “The maid needs to learn her place,” he replied evenly. “If she isn't held accountable for her mistake, she'll think she can get away with anything. It's a matter of discipline.”
Eric stroked his chin thoughtfully, nodding in agreement. “Discipline is important,” he said. “You're right. If we let these things slide, it sends the wrong message.”
“Exactly.” He agreed, his gaze fixed. “She needs to be taught a lesson so she won't repeat the same mistake again.”
Leo's fists tightened under the table. He could barely listen to this conversation without wanting to stand up and demand they leave Lucy alone. Every word from Aiden's mouth felt like a stung to his skin and the fact that his father was supporting him made it even worse.
Isabella could see the uneasiness in Leo's body from across the table and reveled in it. She knew how much he cared for her and seeing him struggle to control his anger was almost as satisfying as knowing she would be punished.
Eric, still musing over Aiden's decision, offered suggestions. “Perhaps, a few days in the lower quarters, where the punishment is lighter but firm. Or, she could be reassigned temporarily.”
Aiden, however, shook his head. “No,” he said calmly but decisively. “I'll handle this myself.”
Eric raised an eyebrow, intrigued. “You want to punish her personally?” he asked.
“Yes,” he responded. “I believe a direct lesson from me will have a stronger impact. She'll remember it.”
Isabella's smile widened slightly at the thought. This was far more than she had hoped for. A personal punishment from Aiden meant Lucy would be humiliated even further. Her eyes darted briefly to Leo whose frustration was now barely contained.
Ethan, still holding Leo's hand under the table could feel the tremor of his anger running through him. His jaw became tight but he kept his head down, trying to avoid meeting anyone's gaze. But inside, he was fuming.
If Aiden laid a hand on Lucy, he wasn't sure he'd be able to stay silent any longer.
Eric, oblivious to the turmoil around him, leaned back in his chair, satisfied with his reasoning. “If that's what you want, Aiden. I trust your judgment,” he yawned. “You may see her and deal with the situation as you see fit.”
Aiden nodded, his expression unchanging. “I'll see her soon… it's best not to delay these things.”
Leo, unable to remain silent any longer, shot a glance at Aiden. “Isn't that a big extreme?” he tilted his head, his voice low.
Aiden's eyes flickered toward Leo, his eyes cold. “Not if it teaches her a lesson,”
“Oh! I see. But every one knows how cruel Aiden is with punishing others…. Am I wrong?”
Aiden let out a smile and leaned forward. He furrowed his eyebrows as he stole a glance at Eric and back on Leo.
“Is that what you think, Leo… Are you trying to speak for her.”
Leo wanted to argue but Ethan's grip tightened, silently urging him to stay quiet. Reluctantly, he leaned back in his chair but his eyes never left Aiden.
“You can do what you want… she's all yours.”
“Good.” Eric threw a friendly slap across Leo's back and stood up. He called the attention of everyone and greeted them once again. “Tonight, I believe everyone has enjoyed themselves.” He watched expectantly for a response.
The hall filled with guards all responded with a cheer and in one accord they shouted, “Yes.”
Eric reverenced Aiden once again as he made gestures with his hand towards him. “We call it a night here. You all can still enjoy the night but as an Alpha and leader of this pack… I need to take a break, there are other pressing matters to attend to.”
He yawned and extended his hand to shake Aiden. Aiden without hesitation shook his hand and thanked Eric for the night.
“Isabella, make sure you have your maid show him to his room. And, umm, don't forget to bring your maid to him.” He wagged his head and walked away while a few guards followed behind him.
Isabella immediately leaned in towards Aiden, her voice dripping with excitement as she rattled on. “If you wish, Prince Aiden, I can have Lucy brought to you now,” she said eagerly. “She's been nothing but careless and this isn't the first time. There have been other instances—small, yes, but they add up.”
Aiden sat back in his chair, silent and unmoved as Isabella continued, her voice growing more animated. “Honestly, she's been making mistakes for months. I've seen it myself. She shows no regard for authority, no respect for the order of things. If she's not punished now, it'll only get worse. She deserves to be dealt with severely.”
As Isabella spoke, her words became sharper, more insistent. Her eyes gleamed as she laid out Lucy's faults, clearly relishing the thought of Lucy receiving a harsh punishment.
But just as she was about to launch into another tirade, her eyes caught Leo's gaze from across the table.
His stare was hard, unyielding and it froze her mid-sentence. The intensity of Leo's expression was enough to silence her immediately. He didn't say a word, but his look spoke volumes. It was a silent warning—one she understood all too well.
Isabella's breath caught in her throat as Leo made a subtle gesture with his hand, indicating she should leave. It wasn't a request; it was a command. And despite her usual defiance, she knew better than to cross Leo this moment.
Without another word, her smile faltered and she quickly rose from her seat. She turned to Aiden, her voice now much quieter.
“”I'll leave you to it, then,” she said, her earlier enthusiasm gone. She signaled to Marie who had been standing nearby and the two of them walked out of the hall.
Ethan, sensing what Leo had done, didn't waste any time either. He nodded towards Leo, silently telling him to keep his cool and in no time, he followed Isabella and Marie out of the hall.
The hall was empty now, the echoes of footsteps fading into the distance as everyone filed out, leaving only Aiden and Leo at the round table. There was silence between them and it was heavy. Aiden remained relaxed while Leo sat rigid, his hands still clenched beneath the table. For a few moments, neither of them spoke. It was a standoff, both aware of the situation at hand but neither of them was willing to break the silence—not until Aiden did as he noticed the gesture Leo made to get Isabella out of the hall, including Ethan.“You've been dying to say something, Leo.” Aiden said, his voice low but sharp. His eyes flickered with amusement as he leaned back slightly in his chair. “So, go ahead. Say what you've got to say.” He raised his head to notice him. “Don't think I didn't see what you did back there.” Leo raised an eyebrow at his words but didn't respond immediately as he waited for him to explain better about what he had done as he had no idea what he was talking about.“I
Lucy stood in the doorway, she looked smaller somehow, shoulders set as if bracing herself against the weight of all those gazes that followed her every movement. Isabella, standing at her side, held her firmly, almost like someone who was to be condemned.Leo's gaze was fixed on her, his posture rigid, thoughts stirring like a tempest in his mind. She doesn't deserve this. The words rattled through him like a drumbeat. He'd once cast her aside, let her drift from his life as if she meant nothing. She's my mate, he thought, feeling the weight of that reality hit him with a familiar, unwanted pain. And now I can't even shield her from what's coming. The memory of his father's words flashed through his mind. Alpha Eric's cold decree: Lucy would be disciplined. Her status as a mere servant made it difficult to stand up for her in front of his father. Leo found himself helpless, his own standing stripped away, his fists clenched to hide the tremor in his hands. Why did I let it come to t
Lucy paused, feeling her heart skip a beat. Did she believe it? Standing here with him now, feeling the warmth radiate from his presence. It was hard to reconcile the image of him she'd been given with the man before her. And yet, doubt lingered, like an old shadow that resisted the light.“I… I don't know,” she finally whispered, her words honest and trembling. “But it's hard to imagine… it's hard to believe…” Her voice faded, unable to find the right words. Her hands fidgeted, her fingers twisting together as if they could somehow ground her.He took a step closer, so close now that she could feel the warmth of him, his presence like a fire’s gentle heat in the coldness of the hall. Gently, his hands reached for her shoulder, his touch steady but was feather light.“Lucy,” he said softly, his voice like a balm against the uncertainty swirling inside her. “What they say about me… I suppose there's truth to it… I haven't been… kind, not always. But it doesn't mean I am incapable of ca
The door opened wide and the heavy sound of boots echoed off the stone floors as Leo entered the hall. He paused at the threshold, his gaze sweeping the room, searching for a sign of what had passed between them. Aiden sat calmly at the round table, fingers resting lightly on the wood, his expression as unreadable as ever. Across the room, Lucy stood with her head bowed, her posture still but tense, as if she were bracing herself.Leo felt a surge of frustration tightening his fists, questions swirling like the storm clouds in his mind. What did you do to her, Aiden? he wondered, anger rising like bile in his throat. He knew his Father's decree was beyond challenge—Aiden had been given free rein, yet Leo had held onto some stubborn hope that perhaps Aiden's arrival would spare Lucy from punishment. But seeing her now, silent and bowed, he felt his insides churn with a darker suspicion. How could she stand just there, as if she were nothing more than a piece in some twisted game? Who
The memory came rushing back to Leo, unhidden, a night painted in the vivid hues of shame and fury. It was the tournament season, the annual test of strength, strategy and dominance that determined the pecking order among the younger wolves of the pack. Leo had trained for months, his every waking moment dedicated to proving himself to his father. But when the final match ended, it was Aiden who stood victorious, his name resounding in cheers as he was crowned the winner.Leo stood in the arena, his breath shallow and uneven, his body bruised and bloodied. His father's gaze burned into him, a mixture of disappointment and expectations. Yet, Leo couldn't meet his eyes. He'd failed.Aiden, on the other hand, was radian in his triumph. The young Lycan exudes confidence, his smirk a dagger aimed at anyone who dares challenge his dominance. And with his victory came the privilege: the right to pass judgment on behalf of the pack.It began almost immediately. A group of rogues has been cap
The air outside was heavy with tension, the kind that settled like a storm cloud waiting to break. Isabella's voice rose sharply, cutting through the quiet as she stood in front of Lucy. Her arms were crossed and her face was a mix of frustration and barely veiled contempt.“You think you're special now, don't you?” Isabella sneered, stepping closer to Lucy, her tone harsh. “Just because you spent a few moments with Aiden there without any scratch? Don't think for a second that it makes you untouchable. I know all about you, Lucy. About how you faint, how you're too weak to handle even the simplest tasks.”Lucy flinched, keeping her gaze low. Isabella's words stung but she didn't dare respond.“I should put you back in the laundry room,” Isabella continued, her voice dropping with contempt. “You remember what it was like, don't you? Long hours, the heat, the endless piles of clothes. Maybe that would remind you where you belong.”Lucy's hands trembled at her sides, but clenched them i
The words hung in the air for a moment before Isabella straightened and began pacing slowly across the room, her voice hardening with each word. “It was a gathering of the packs. A treaty meeting, they called it. Aiden was already a leader in every sense of the word. As a Lycan and with his achievements in different contests with different contestants from different packs, his father had given him authority over several matters—touch authority if you ask me.” She stopped, her back to Lucy. “But then again, who would dare question him?”Lucy swallowed, her fingers twitching in her lap.“There was a rogue,” Isabella continued, turning her face to her. “A woman who had been caught stealing food from the camp. She was older, frail, and clearly desperate. She claimed she had cubs to feed, though no one had seen them. Most of us would've handed her over to her pack, let them seal with it. But not Aiden.”Isabella's eyes narrowed as if she could still see the scene playing out in front of h
Lucy blinked, looking up into Leo's familiar face. His eyes were sharp, but there was a flicker of concern beneath his furrowed brow.“Lucy,” he said, his tone softening. “Are you alright?”Her lips parted but no words came out. She felt his hands tightened slightly on her shoulders, anchoring her as she swayed, her gaze fixed on the ground. Her silence gnawed at him, but before he could press further, Ethan, who had been following closely behind, cleared his throat.“Leo,” he began, his voice low but insistent. “You can't be seen like this with her. Especially not by your father.”Leo tensed, nodding his head. “I know,” he replied curtly, glancing at Ethan.“Do you?” Ethan pressed, stepping closer. “Because if your father sees you—”“I said I know!” Leo snapped, his voice echoing down the corridor. He took a breath, his frustration barely contained.Ethan fell silent, his gaze flicking to Lucy, who was only staring but seemed oblivious to their exchange. He sighed. “I'm just trying t
“They had me,” she started, her voice low as she stepped in closer to Aiden. “There were five of them. Omegas. I could tell by the way they carried themselves. They were ready to kill me, to cut me off without flinching.”Aiden's jaw tensed, but he remained silent, letting her continue.Lucy glanced at her wounded arm, the gash now a dull ache compared to the adrenaline that had surged through her veins earlier. “I tried to move. To get out of their circle. But one of them rushed at me.”Her breath hitched as she recalled the moment—how she had barely dodged, how another had grabbed her from behind before she could react.“He held me down and then…” she exhaled sharply, shaking her head. “One of them was going to strike. I saw his claws. I almost felt death lurking when he aimed for my throat.”Aiden took a slow step forward, his brows drawing together. “But he didn't.” It wasn't a question.Lucy nodded. “No. Because I… I growled.”The word felt foreign on her tongue. Aiden's expressi
Aiden stood close to the window, peeping through the small open space. He retracted his head as he heard the approaching footsteps outside. The guards had been going and coming, looking for the unknown. Their voices were low but firm, exchanging words as they passed through the area.“Lucy!” he whispered.Lucy's grip on his wrist tightened. It was like she already knew what he wanted to say—what he wanted to convey to her.“Stay,” she whispered, her voice barely audible.Aiden exhaled through his nose as light mist could be seen coming out. He glanced toward the door. He didn't like this. He had already risked enough by coming here. Yes, he might be a Prince—not just a prince but a Lycan Prince… it didn't exempt him from abiding by the rules also. He didn't want to get in the way of Alpha Eric since everyone was to stay indoors whenever there was an intruder and the only people to be seen were the guards. Even the Alpha and his son, Leo, were meant to stay indoors. He can't be seen li
Leo's gaze hardened but he didn't pull back. He didn't even flinch and just met Aiden's gaze. He didn't understand what Aiden meant by his question and was only trying to comprehend it. His lips pressed into a thin line as if waiting for Aiden to explain himself.Aiden exhaled sharply, shaking his head. “You want her. But you won't admit it. You won't act on it. You think standing here, acting like you don't care, makes you strong?” His voice dropped lower, a quiet challenge. “It makes you a coward.” Leo's jaw clenched. A muscle ticked at the side of his face.Aiden tilted his head, his eyes searching Leo's face for any sign or flicker of emotion. “You don't deserve to be Alpha.” he tapped Leo's chest with his finger and pushed him. But it was a slight push. His gaze was strong like he was expecting the worse from Leo, hoping he was going to react and fight him.Leo's nostrils flared. “Watch your mouth.”Aiden chuckled, but there was no humor in it. “Or what? You'll finally do someth
Aiden just bent there on the spot. He didn't turn around. He didn't need to. He had already sensed Leo the moment he arrived, his scent, his presence thick in the air like a storm rolling in. Even the sound of his boots pressing into the dirt was slow. If was measured, closing the distance between them and Aiden could notice that, as his ears captured even the faintest sound.Aiden stayed still, his fingers twitching slightly at his side. He sniffed again as the scent of blood still clung to the air and mixed with the cool night breeze. He didn't like being interrupted, especially not now that it was all about Lucy who could be in danger and needed help. Leo's voice soon cut through the silence. “What are you doing here?”Aiden smirked, tilting his head slightly but still not turning around. “I could ask you the same thing.”Leo stepped closer, his presence not too intimidating. “It's my pack,” he said, his tone laced with impatience. “I don't need a reason to be anywhere. You, on t
Isabella just stood there. She was motionless, her hand resting on the door handle. The second knock at the door had sent a chill down her, causing her earlier confidence to slip away like sand through her fingers. She glanced over her shoulder, her mind racing. Could it be them? Or worse… someone else? Her heart pounded as she slowly turned the handle. The door creaked as it opened just enough for her to peek through. The sight of Leo standing there with his mouth shut like he had suspected something and his face unreadable and expressionless made her blood run cold, sending shivers down her spine and making her fidgeting. She tightened her grip, firm on the door to an extent that her knuckles almost turned white.“Leo?” she managed to say but her voice didn't falter, knowing she had to keep her calm.He didn't answer. His sharp eyes swept over her before he decided to stop inside without an invitation. It was like he didn't need her consent to take any action. Isabella backed away f
There was silence in the air. It hung for a while as the name which Lucy uttered replayed in her mind. Isabella. Marie knew she could be right as Isabella was the only one who would do such a thing. She also knew that Leo, despite his attitude toward Lucy, would somehow protect her if it came to that as she had seen something like that before.“Isabella… that wicked witch.” She squeezed her face, her hand swung in the air like she was imagining Isabella right in front of her and she, doing the needful. Marie kept and just fixed her eyes on something she could not even say. Something invisible not until Marie broke the silence.“But Lucy… how did you do it? You said there were five of them. How did you fight them off? You're not even… I mean, you don't have your wolf yet.”A smile curled at the end of Lucy's lips. “ I don't know… I can't even explain what happened,” Lucy admitted, her voice shaking. She brought her other hand down and held her laps firmly. “Something happened to me. S
Lucy moved through the dimly lit path. The only light was the moonlight. But her senses were sharper than ever. Every shift in the wind, every faint footsteps of the patrolling guards reached her before they themselves came close. She had stayed hidden, her back pressed to cold walls, avoiding the guards, her breaths shallow but controlled. It felt strange, like she had tapped into something she couldn't quite fully understand. If only claws had sprouted out from her fingers and maybe some fur of hairs sprang out of her skin, she could have understood that it was her wolf and that she had finally gotten it. But it was only her senses that became heightened and she had the strength of three women. How was that possible? She had never felt that way before and had not experienced it.Her vision cut through the darkness, catching even the smallest flicker of movement. The metallic taste of blood lingered on her tongue, her wounds throbbing with every step. She pressed her hand to her shou
A rush of heat surged through her veins, burning like liquid fire. Like a current that surged through a copper wire. She jiggled, her muscles pulsating. In no time, she trembled as an unfamiliar power roared to life within her. It wasn't pain—it was something else. Something untamed and terrifying. Something she could not believe nor quite understand. Her eyes snapped open, and at that instant… Everything felt sharper as she could hear distant sounds of the fireflies. Her eyes looked clearly as she could see well through the darkness. The scent of the omegas, the sound of their breaths, even the faint rustle of leaves—it all hit her senses at once. The omega in front of her hesitated, his claws pausing midair. “What the—”Lucy let out a guttural growl, cutting the omega off in front of her. The sound was low but primal and it didn't sound like it belonged to her. It wasn't her voice but something deep within her. Her captor, the one behind her back, loosened his grip just enough for
Lucy kept her steps slow, her heels barely lifting off the ground as she wandered through the pack grounds. The familiar pathways glistened under the faint moonlight. The path was dark at first but became clearer as she got closer. The night air carried a cool, quiet stillness as they brushed against her skin.It would have been better if she had felt the cool stillness of the breeze while she cuddled with Aiden. Not when she was left alone by herself to wander around. She could have taken the shorter route back to her room, but the thought of facing Marie's inevitable questions which would arise because of her attitude made that decision for her.She sighed, her mind flickering back to Aiden—his touch, his voice, the way his eyes seemed to burn right through her. What else does he really think of me? Could he have made the excuse because of me? Does he see me as weak… or something more? The questions circled her mind, each one weighing her down more than the lastIn no time, the soun
