Groaning I turn over in bed, reaching out to pat the side next to me to find it empty. Stretching, I slowly open my eyes to realize that yesterday's events weren't just a dream.
Sighing I get out of bed and make my way to the kitchen where I hear people talking. Walking in
I find Jack making breakfast with my brother sitting in one of the chairs.
"Alex?...what are you doing here?" I say taking one of the seats.
"I figured you were here." He says. "And mom was worried."
"I didn't call him..." Jack immediately says when I look at him.
Unfortunately, Jack and Alex knew each other and it made it harder to keep Jack in the friend zone since he was also good with my brother.
"Does dad know that you're here?" I ask.
"No, he probably thinks I'm at my friends' place or something." He tells me.
"Here you go," Jack says, placing a plate in front of me.
"Thank you."
"So what are you doing here?" I ask Alex.
"Well, mom said to bring you that" He pointed at a black duffle bag on the couch. "They're some clothes and money."
"Thanks..." I say. Furrowing my brows I ask. "Why is their money? I have my credit cards."
"Uhm well, the thing is dad blocked all your cards." He tells me.
"What?!"
"He doesn't mean anything by this you know.." Alex says. "He just wants you home"
"Well cutting my cards isn't gonna help"
Ugg!! How annoying! If he thinks for one minute am going to rush back just because of this, he is damn well mistaken.
Closing my eyes I take a deep breath calming myself.
Opening them I look at Alex and smile.
"I don't need his money anyway," I say. "Am not going to stay in LA for long."
"What do you mean?" Alex asks.
Smiling I say. "I'm going to Vegas."
Jack spits out his coffee and looks at me. "Vegas?"
"Yea," I say. "Vegas has the best strip clubs the world has to offer so I am going to find a job there."
"Hailey, that's insane." Alex chuckles.
"I'm not joking, I am going to Vegas."
"Hailey...." Jack starts. "You need to be sensible with your decisions, you can't just pack up and leave."
"I can't stay here," I tell him.
"There are a lot of jobs here, you can easily find one," Alex says.
Smiling at him I take his hand in mine. "Am going to be fine Alex."
Standing up I clap my hands excited. "Let's get this show on the road."
"HAILEY!" Jack stands up yelling and I look at him eyes wide, taken off guard by his sudden burst.
"You're out of your fucking mind if you think you're going to Vegas!" He shouts.
Eyes wide I look at him. "The hell I can do whatever I want," I say. "You can't tell me what to do okay.""I fucking can if that's stopping you from doing something stupid!"
Scoffing, I glare at him. "You can not tell me what to do."
"Can you two stop arguing!" Alex yells and we both look at him.
Breathing, I look at jack. "Am going and no one is stopping me."
Grabbing the duffle bag from the couch I go to Jack's room.
After getting a bath and changing Into denim thigh-high shorts and a white tank top with my combat boots on I tie my shoulder-length silver-blonde hair up.Sitting on the bed I take out my phone to find missed calls from my mom and the only friend I have in this town, Clara.
Am going to meet up with her before I leave.
Taking my bag I walk out of the room to where Alex and jack are.
Alex immediately comes to me. "Are you serious about going to Vegas?"
"Yes, little brother," I told him, hugging him. "I will miss you."
"Me too."
Going over to Jack I wrap my arms around his waist in a hug.
"Am going to be alright," I tell him.
Pulling me closer to him, he says. "Just don't forget to call me when you get there."
"I won't," I say, pecking his lips.
Pulling away from him I smile at the both of them.
"Wait..how are you going to get there?" Alex asks. "You don't have your car with you."
"Am going to take the bus of course," I told him.
"You can get my car," Alex says.
"What, no," I say. "You got that car for your birthday last year."
Shrugging he says. "I'm going to get a new one for this year's birthday anyway so you can have it."
"What if dad asks about it?"
"Am gonna tell him a friend borrowed it and he doesn't pay that much attention.."
"Okay then," I say, slinging the bag over my shoulder. "Am off now. Bye, you guys."
Walking to the door I open it, looking back to face them I say. "Oh and don't tell anyone at home that I am moving to Vegas." I wink at Alex. "Or mom might just faint."
Laughing he says. "I won't."
With that I leave the apartment, making my way to the parking lot where Alex parked his latest Mercedes.
Before leaving town I meet up with my best friend who cries her eyes out as though I am going to die.
And I quote 'It's like you're going to sacrifice yourself to the devil there in Vegas.' Her words, not mine.
So yes after the waterworks were done as we finally said goodbye to each other, yes I cried too cause Clara's tears are contagious as in when she starts crying about a sad scene in a movie then I cry too, it's that bad.
Hours later I was speeding my way to Vegas and it was getting dark and the desert wasn't a place I was planning to spend the night in.
After driving for the whole day I pull up at a stopover motel which will have to do for the night. Checking in, I go to my room and after a long bath, I immediately go to bed.
The next day I was up early and ready to go. It was hot out here so I had on denim thigh-high shorts, yea I bought a lot of those, a black tank top and some converse.
It was great out here, away from the city and the noise. It was peaceful. I should make a reminder to come camping in the mountains once.
I was going over the speed limit when I started to slow down. I had a full tank so why was I slowing down now?
The car comes to a stop, and turning it on doesn't start. I tried several times but to no avail.
Getting out, I open the hood, and smoke comes out. Damn it.Looking around, I am in the middle of nowhere and there's no sign of a gas station or any cars around.
After calling a tow truck the man said he'll be here in two hours and I honestly can't just sit and wait. So I take my duffle bag, and a bottle of water and start my hike along the road. I am so tired and hungry and I just feel like screaming! There hasn't been a car in sight since I started walking, which is like an hour or so.
Stopping, I sit on some huge rock at the side of the road for a breather. Taking out my water bottle I finished the last of its contests.
Now I was starting to think this Vegas idea through.
After what felt like an hour of walking in the hot desert heat, I mmediately look up when I hear a car coming. Smiling, I stand up at the side of the road waving for them to stop and thankfully they do.The truck pulls next to me and a bearded man pops his head out of the truck smiling."Hello, missy." He says in a cowboy ascent. I was told never to get in cars with strange men but he looks friendly and I need a ride before I die out here."Uh hie." I returned his smile."Where are you heading?" He asks."Vegas.""Well lucky you, I am heading that way." He tells me. "Well hope in missy."Once in the passenger seat, he drives off."The names Bob." He tells me."Hailey.""That your car I saw a mile back?" He asks."Yes, it overheated or something," I told him. "A tow truck is coming to pick it up.""Well, she is a beaut.""Thank you."Bob continues with the small talk as we drive towards the city.An hour later we reach Vegas and I can say seeing is much better than just hearing from p
Breathing a smile finds itself on my lips, my eyes still closed, I stretch my arms out. I just want to stay like this forever, it feels good. Wait. My eyes fly open to see a white ceiling, looking to my side I adjust to the brightness coming from the open curtains. Immediately sitting up I look around the room and everything is white and I notice that I am completely naked under the sheets. Ugh fuck. I groan into the pillow as I remember last night's events. Getting to my senses I get out of bed, looking at the floor I don't see my clothes. Where the fuck are my clothes!? They're nowhere in sight. Ugh! I grab the gray sweatshirt that goes all the way to my thighs. My stomach grumbles when I smell something good. Leaving the room I follow the smell to the kitchen where I see a bare back in just sweatpants. He was busy with what he was making on the stove to even notice me as I took my time to shamelessly look at his back. My brows furrow, noticing some red claw marks on his bac
It was 9 pm, and I was in a cab going to the club that was said to be hiring. Once I got there I was led to a dressing room where a bunch of girls getting ready. The club was already in a full partying mood as music blasted throughout the club. Already in my two-piece outfit waiting to be called. The hiring was going to be judged by customer satisfaction so I was going to go out there and show what I've got. "Hie." A redhead comes to sit next to me as she applies lipstick looking in the mirror. "Hey." "You're here for the job too?" "Yea.." "Knock 'em dead." She pats my back before walking away. Smiling, I looked into the mirror and my reflection told me I looked okay, I wasn't that much big on liking makeup so I just had on a little. Glossing my lips, I hear my name being called out. "Hailey!.." Someone calls out. "It's time to get out there!" I go to where I am being called and it's a short balding man. "Here," I say. "Go down that aisle, your pole is there." Nodding, I ta
I was going through some files when the door to my office flung open. "You should get a life." My best friend and pain in the ass Xander says."What do you want?" I ask not even sparing him a glance."I'm here to save you from yourself." He says. "Let's go out tonight."Sighing, I look at him. "I have some work to do."Taking the seat in front of my desk he says with a sigh. "Look it's been two weeks now and you can not still be hung over that one night stand."He just had to bring her up. I wouldn't say I was hung over her but yes I still couldn't get her out of my head. After that day she left my apartment, it was like she disappeared into thin air because I never saw her again, and trust me I have been looking for her but now I was slowly starting to give up. I guess you can’t find someone who doesn’t want to be found. I didn’t care if this made me look desperate but I liked and wanted to get to know her more, so as someone who's always determined I wanted to find her and at leas
It’s her. She was running towards us, tears streaming down her cheeks. Reaching us, she flings her arms at me, wrapping them around my neck tightly and I hold her close to me in a hug, and at that moment I feel her body shaking. My hands protectively go around her, holding her close. She looks up at me with tears in her eyes. The once daring gaze she held was gone, and seeing her like this tagged at my heart. "Help me. Please." Her voice is shaky and her trembling hands tightly hold the back of my shirt, as if scared to be pulled away. Putting a strand of hair behind her ear, I wipe the tears from her cheeks but they just keep on coming. "Am not going to let anything happen to you," I say with promise in my words and I mean every word. "Let's go." I immediately told Xander. "Give me the girl." Turning I see one of the men from the restaurant. The girl immediately goes behind me hiding and I feel her whole figure tremble in fear. "Please don't let them take me." She quiver
Hands trembling, I fold them to my chest as I lay in a ball position on the bed. I was sweating like hell even though I felt cold and was shaking, my muscles hurt just wanted to lay where I was and not get up. I can do this. The chant that has been in my head for the past hour now, telling myself that I don't need the drugs, I can survive this on my own even though the last thread to that thought was slowly shattering. I have lost count of how many days I have been here. Sean has made sure to dope me with drugs that I can't get away from, crack and heroin being some of them. The security watching me is tight and any escape attempts have only gotten me in trouble. Yesterday was the only day Sean let me go outside as his way of showing me that I can get an amount of freedom if I continue to do what he wanted and it was also my only chance of escape. So when I saw that guy again at the mall I took my chance by running from my guards and going to him but that attempt failed. I just
"Fucking find her!" I yell into the phone before disconnecting it. "You can't keep going like this," Xander tells me. It has been a week since she was taken and I still haven’t found her. I am so angry with myself that I couldn't protect her.She begged me to save her, to take her away so they couldn't take her, tears in her eyes pleading with me. She was scared. God knows what she has been through, what those people do to her. Just thinking about it makes me angry. "Why are you so worked up over a girl you don’t even know," Xander says sitting next to me on the couch. Sighing I look at him. "I might not know her but I feel like protecting her," I say. "And after that night with her, I wanted to get to know her, so am going to do whatever it takes to save her from whatever trouble she's in." "We told the police about it so they've got it covered," Xander says. "And it's time we went home now, our work here in vegas is done." "I can't just leave Xander," I tell him. "At least w
I was lying on the bed when the door opened, and Sean walked in.Coming to sit at the foot of the bed, he takes a long puff from his cigar."How are you doing cupcake." He asks.Ignoring my unresponsive attitude, he continues to say. "Tonight, I have a job for you." He tells me. "You'll be entertaining an important client."Surprised and scared, I sit up to face him."What do you mean?" I ask."I have been offered good cash for my finest and best." He tells me.A nervous laugh escapes my lips. "What do you mean? I never dance for anyone.""Well, this client is different." He says. "And I am still disappointed in you, so you might as well pay for your mistake because it cost me."At this moment, my heart was racing. Was he finally tired of me letting others see me? I can't let this happen. I have to find an excuse to avoid this.Laying back down, I mumble."Am tired,"Chuckling, he says. "Then don't show it." With a quick inhale from his cigar, he lowers it into the ashtray. His tight g
My eyes slowly opening am met with a white ceiling, a sketchy smell of medicine fills my nose as my mouth feels dry and sour. I hear a beeping sound.Looking around, I realize I am in a hospital bed with needles in my skin. Standing at the end of the room, looking outside the window, is a broad back I could recognize from anywhere."Xander?.." I croak out, my voice was hoarse.Quickly turning, he beams, smiling. "Hunter." In a second, he's next to me. "You're finally awake.""Hey, buddy.." I smirk."I was so worried the day you didn't come back from the club, and the next thing I know am getting a call from your dad saying that you were shot!" He rumbles. "You do you know what tight spot you had me in...I didn't even know how to explain to your father how you got shot!...dude!"Laughing, I say. "I'll be careful next time I go to a club."Sighing, he pats my shoulder. "Glad you're okay, man."Looking around, I feel a bit uneasy."Don't worry, she just went to get some coffee," Xander s
"Hunter?..." Coughing, I sit up."Hunter...." He lay on my lap, not moving.Brows furrowed, I shake him. "Hunter.."His body slides off my lap, which is when I notice the blood. Panic sets in me when I take in the situation that he was shot."Hunter..." I cry out.Assessing the wound, he has been bleeding out for a while since there is a puddle of blood under him. How long has he been out?Panicking, I look around to see a door at the far end of the warehouse.Searching for a pulse, I find one but weak. I have to get him out of here before he completely bleeds out.Putting all my strength into it, I lift him dragging him towards the door, only to fall to the ground. He's too heavy for me to carry out of here.Tears stream down my face as l look at his pale face. "I am not going to let you die," I say to his unconscious frame. "Be right back, okay.."Kissing his forehead I stand and bolt for the door. It was bright outside, and it looked like we were in a secluded part of vegas becaus
My eyes snap open when I feel freezing water poured on me. My vision was blurry as l tried to take in my surroundings, I was seated in a chair, and my arms and legs wouldn't budge when I tried to move. "Ah, Mr. Reid. You're finally up." A voice says.My vision cleared, and I took in my situation, I was in a space, probably a warehouse, tied down to a chair which explained why I couldn't move, and in front of me was a desk with a man swiveling in his chair. He had a hard, rough face with a scar on his left eyebrow, and looked at me with a smile. My voice is low and rough, I ask. "Where is Hailey?" "She's fine." He smiles. "Let us talk business first." "What do you want?" "It has come to my notice that you, Mr. Reid are an important man, and killing you would be a waste." He starts. "So I want us to make our meeting worthwhile. So let's make a deal." "What deal?" "Am glad you asked." He beams. "You give me money in exchange, I let the both of you go." "How much do you want, hu
It's him."You." We both say at the same time.A huge smile plasters on his face, and in one stride he has me in his arms in a tight hug. I don't know why but tears start to fall down my cheeks, my heart feeling heavy as he holds me tight. My hands are shaky as I wrap them around his torso."I am so glad to see you." He breathes, his voice low in my ear.Pulling away, he holds my face in his hands, wiping away the tears with his thumb. He Puts a strand of hair behind my ear, then kisses my forehead.Seeing him here, right now, in front of me, brought so many emotions that I couldn't say a word but stare at him. I felt happy and relieved that he was here but my heart suddenly dropped in fear and I took a step back, out of his embrace.Confused, he asks. " What's wrong?" taking a step forward and I take one back."How are you here?" I ask him. "Are you one of them?""What?...No!""Then how did you afford me, I have never been given to anyone," I tell him."Look, I came here instead of a
