Chapter 51

He seems like a zombie every day. Even his grandfather can't talk to him anymore. He stays in the penthouse, and no one talks to him except about work.

The phone on the table rings, but he doesn't move. Even the pictures of their wedding on display remain untouched. He rolls the swivel chair to reach the ringing phone.

'Sir, your grandfather keeps calling, but you're not answering.'

He checks the silent cellphone. 39 missed calls. Three from Bernard, six from Monica, and the rest from home.

"Okay, Marie, thank you." He hangs up.

He reads the messages.

BERNARD:

Hey, how are you?

Are you busy?

Can you tonight?

Answer me if you're not busy.

MONICA:

Hey, are you okay?

We missed you; it's been three months since we last saw each other.

Let's go to Japan when you're free. Your mom's anniversary invitation is heartwarming. I'll call you "honey" when I have time. Miss you too, LOLO. Urgent talk later!
