Chapter 97

Amelia's eyes fluttered open, the bright light of the hospital room causing her to squint. She blinked a few times, trying to focus on her surroundings.

As she slowly sat up, she felt a wave of dizziness wash over her. She steadied herself, taking a deep breath and feeling the sharp pain in her chest ease slightly.

Not too long after, a kind-faced nurse walked in, her footsteps light against the linoleum floor.

"Good morning, ma'am," she said, a warm smile spreading across her face. "How are you feeling today?"

"Better," Amelia replied, her voice hoarse

The nurse walked up to her and began checking her pulse, her fingers light against Amelia's wrist. She then moved up to the drip, disconnecting it from her arm.

Amelia couldn't help but feel a sense of relief at the thought of leaving the hospital. "Am I being discharged already?" she asked.

The nurse shook her head. "Almost, but not yet. Doctor Miller will still come check up on you before discharging you. She's currently attending
