Chapter 35

Amelia's heart pounded with anticipation as the doctor approached them, his white coat swishing against the tiled floor.

"How is he, doctor?" Amelia asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

He gave her a small smile, his face lined with wrinkles that spoke of years of experience. "The surgery was successful," he said, "but he'll need some time to recover."

Amelia's heart soared at the news. She had been so afraid that something would go wrong during the surgery, that Andrew wouldn't make it through. But now, knowing that he was going to be okay, she could feel a weight lifting off her shoulders.

"Thank God," she breathed. "And Andrew? How is he? Can he walk now?" she asked, her eyes shining with hope.

The doctor hesitated for a moment before replying. "Well, he's not able to walk yet. But he can stand and take a few steps with assistance."

Amelia's smile faltered. "What do you mean? I thought the surgery was supposed to fix everything."
