Daniel’s POV
What I wanted most right now was to get to the tallest building and jump down, without feeling any pain as life slowly leaves my body.I felt like hell. Hell was an understatement, I had lost everything that ever mattered to me, I felt useless and devastated and the pain shoot through me like dagger stabs, radiating all through my body and making me feel less alive than I did as I called that Blackwood boy. I looked at my hands, my fingers, they had typed the simplest, but deadliest message to the young blackmailer called Blackwood, simple words of "I accept your offer."I wasn't in the right state of mind as I sent that to him, I was obviously afraid to lose, to go back to being penniless after all I've been through to build my oil empire. Even my wife contributed to the growth of the business, now, with my own hands, I sold it out in less than twelve hours.Slowly and painfully, I let my mind flow back to the disastrous meeting that put me in this dilemma. The moment I saw him, I knew I wouldn't be the same again, and then when he brought out that file from his brief case and placed it on the mahogany table, my heart must have done at least thirty somersaults before I was able compose myself. He had stared at me as I inquired about the file he kept on my table, I didn't even look at it and the next thing he said could have made me stab him with the ball pen I was holding. He had stated, as a matter of fact, "Mr Andrews, this is a document of all your illegal dealings and flaws in your oil production for the last ten years.” Damn him for still looking me straight in the eye and telling me that. And he had continued as I expressed my shock. "Look, Mr Andrews, I'm going to make this fast, simple and clear. I want Exxon Oil. I've wanted it for a while now. Sell your company to me and this doesn't leak to the public."At that moment, I loathed him, I wanted to kill him when he mentioned selling my company because of some fake lousy reports he gets from his minions. The skepticism in my eyes must have been a vivid irritation. I had looked him in the eyes, replying flatly that I was selling the company, now....I drained down the whole glass of whisky and it dangerously burned my throat. The taste was bitter but I loved it. I was wasted and spent out with nothing left in me. How was I going to face my daughters? What will I tell them happened to Exxon company? The thought of it made me pour the last content of the bottle right into my mouth and I spilled most of it on my plain white shirt. I looked at the wall clock in the bar and it read few minutes past 11pm."Get your ass up," I muttered and got up staggering. It was the pitiful stagger of a drunken man and I knew I wouldn't end up sleeping anywhere good tonight.I paid for the alcohol and hit the street, occasionally sobbing and chuckling like a broken record tape. I walked into a car pack and saw two lone guys smoking cigar by the barbed wire. They didn't acknowledge my presence but when I started to laugh, they saw me."Hey, what you laughing at, jerk?""You're the jerk, jerk." I blurted out, still laughing. One of the men approached me and pushed me."Get out of here, you freak.""You're the freak!" I returned and laughed again. The first man I insulted me came behind me and I felt the cold touch of metal. I stood rigid for a while, the realisation of what the cold metal might be made me go down on one knee."That's right, kneel. Now, empty all you have now."I didn't answer at first but when he kicked violently, I realized I didn't have much of a choice and surrendered my wrist watch. That wasn't enough, they emptied my wallet and took my sliver necklace and phone."Run along now and don't you look back," the men said, kicking me again.I stood up slugglishly, the effect of the alcohol still in my system. I staggered forth and back walking on the lonely street. The moon was out and it lapped all over the floor, I felt like crying but nothing like tears was coming. I was devastated, I was broken and I've lost it all in a day.The only worse thing that could happen to me was death and now, I was ready to take it.~The rays of the sun made me open my eyes, followed by the foul smell of garbage and God knows what. It prickled my nostrils that I felt like throwing up. I was up in no time and as my eyes scanned my environment, I gave a loud shout.I saw garbage and broken bottles all over the floor. I was in a dumpster and I slept here. The realisation that I slept in an uncalled place like this could have brought tears to my eyes but I slowly got up and got my acts together. I had lost everything but I wasn't about to lose my life.It was all I got after Tyler Blackwood ripped me of what I had in exchange for nothing. How did he even get those files of sabotage? I was hundred percent sure they were not real, they were probably from his minions he had paid to source for information, buried information about me. I could have asked to check it but I didn't.Tyler wouldn't drive all the way to my office to present me with a fake file about my activities in the company, he must have digged a lot and paid to get those information accumulated into a file."What more is left?" I asked no one in particular. "What more is left?" I repeated again. I couldn't go home, there was nothing to go home to. No wife and never would I face my daughters in this state. How will I begin? How will I tell them that the only thing that puts food on the table, their only inheritance had gone off to a competitor with nothing to call a price? It was uncalled for, it was a shameless thing to say and God forbid I tell my daughters."I wouldn't go home." I told myself. I'd stay away until I was able to stand on my feet again. With that in mind, I made my way to a free coffee machine in front of a shop on the highway and helped myself to a cup of black coffee. It wasn't hot, I drained it down in gulp."This would do, I could leave for the nearest city and stay there for a while," I thought. I was about to take the second cup of coffee when I heard something on the radio."Bussiness news..." As I heard that, I looked away. I was familiar with the reporter, she was always broadcasting news about the oil sector and the agricultural industry. She stated at a time the rapid loss of the Exxon oil and how Tyler had his bussiness in control.I drank the second cup of coffee, uninterested in the news about to be told. But then, when I heard what the reporter said next, my head turned to the TV."It came as a shocking news that the owner of Exxon oil is now the formidable Tyler Blawood. Words came out that the business man has merged the two biggest oil companies in New York and is ready to take profit to the next level. He stated that he would increase profit to a maximum 20% alongside the already profits made from his original oil company before the merge...""Damn!" I cursed, throwing the cup away. The anger in me multipled as I heard the news. How dare he! He had been waiting for this for so long, the bastard Blackwood had it all planned. It was fast, so fast and the news was everywhere. It would even reach my wife and she would mock me. She had always mocked my investment in Exxon oil. She saw it as a failure and even me as the master failure. Now, everything she said is right. The next news got me emotional. My daughters, particularly Thea had announced my absence and now I was on the list of missing people. Sooner or later, I was sure Thea would place a ransom for whosoever finds me. She was that good. She loved me too much to lose me. She was there when her mother left me; she comforted me and took good care of her sister.Thea will set things right, that, I know. But for now, I belong to the shadows. They will be fine without me.Thea’s POVI splashed water again on my face, refusing to accept the consequences of the recent happenings in which I was somewhat involved in. Tyler fucking Blackwood had ruined my family, and my life along with it.While I was busy enjoying his hands over me, he had his own evil scheme planned out in his head, and unluckily for me, he got away with both things. I felt worse than I did when I dressed up to meet him at the hotel. It was my fault either ways, I should have read the handwriting on the wall.My reflection stared back at me, if she were a different person, she must have been disappointed and heavens knows, I was disappointed. How did I let this happen? Why didn't I see this coming? If I had, maybe I could have prevented it. But, perhaps, somehow, shamelessly, I wanted to warm Tyler's bed, I had seen him on several occasions and he charmed my imagination, but pride made me ignore him.Damn me! Even in the midst of all this shit, all I could think of was sleeping with Tyler
Thea’s POVThey were clapping as I walked to my seat. The applause started out in a fine pitch, until it rose to a crescendo. I looked around me, feeling proud of what I was able to achieve in five years. It was unbelievable but I did this. This was the third meeting to be held this month and it was as a result of the company's sales. The company even had its name in the mouths of the top investors in Italy. It's in the good books that Booker industry was beating the odds. Today, the main discussion was to find ways to expand our business to my hometown. The place I left years ago, it seemed like yesterday; I and Cora alone, but now, I had more responsibilities.I smiled when I sat down and took the paperwork before me. I had these thoughts since Booker industry hit limelight, but I wasn't sure how to present it to the other stakeholders. They were mostly French men with few from America. I knew they might not approve of my decision but whether or not they agree, Booker industry will
THEAI darted into the house in a rush, a whirlwind of emotions consumed me. Surprisingly, amidst the chaos, it was Tyler who came to my mind, and with his name came a surge of anger that intensified within me.The front door swung open as I entered, revealing a dimly lit hallway. The familiar scent of home greeted me, but it offered no solace in my current state of mind. I stormed through the corridor, my foot echoing against the walls, mirroring the turmoil within me.Did I kill that man? Was he dead? Why did I even get so pissed off? The least I could do was walk away, because the man was probably drugged but no, I took the bottle and used it on him. It wasn't because I was drunk, it was because the way he was ogling reminded me of him.My mind raced back to the events that had transpired years ago, that night, the sex and the way he sent me away. It was all sex, was I expecting something else?As I reached the toilet, I found myself standing in front of a large mirror hanging on t
THEAI was angry with myself for recognizing him. I know I had made a resolution within that I'd be ready, but I wasn't really. It had really been five years. He looked rough, and looking around it seemed father would be nearby. He noticed me searching, "Thea, your father isn't here." He said. How bold of him to speak to me. Did he know where father was? I collected my thoughts and shut them out. I didn't come back home for him. I walked swiftly past him, hoping he would ignore me. "It's good to see you. How have you been?" He kept talking walking closely behind me.I placed two fingers to my lips signalling to Cora, and walked even faster. The thought of my father's betrayal and cowardice irritated me, let alone the people involved in it. My guards lead him away from us, even as he kept on screaming that he was sorry he couldn't reach out. 'Sorry' couldn't do it for me. I already wanted revenge.I felt like an All Star Model, walking through the halls of the airport to the other side
THEA"Sebastian?!" I itched my eyes to make sure I wasn't hallucinating. Why was he here? How did he get here? I frowned immediately pushing back my tears and cleaning the ones that had poured down my face. I had cried a little, but the pain I bore was so much, that it showed plainly on my face. It seemed like I had been crying for hours. I turned to look at my reflection in one of the window blinds that wasn't completely covered in cobwebs and my face was reddened like a little baby who was deprived of something sweet. It was a funny sight, considering I was always playing the sophisticated woman in front of Sebastian. But I was too angry to think about that now. "What are you doing here?" I relaxed my tone so he wouldn't notice my earlier expressions."I came to see you." He folded his arms and rested on the car, smiling sheepishly. I think I let off too much. I don't think he could see how angry I am. I frowned even more. What a brat. He thinks he can just come see me anytime he wa
THEAPalpitating! Palpitating! Damnation! My heart beat kept palpitating and it must have palpitated out of my ribcage if I allowed it to.I slumped unto the chair, feeling hot and cold at the same time. I felt like screaming as the tremendous weight of the situation became suffocating, and I could feel the panic rising within me. My business, the one I had poured my heart and soul into for years, for five years, meeting this man and this woman, signing every piece of document, just to be here, now, everything was on the verge of crumbling. The fear of going bankrupt loomed over me like a dark cloud, threatening to destroy everything I had worked so hard to build. How did so much money go missing in less than 48 hours? How! I knew this was a scheme to sabotage my reputation, it must be those lousy stakeholders who disagreed on expanding my bussiness to Manhattan, they wanted me to sell all I had for the money I couldn't account for. This was how it all started, this was how it all sta
THEA"You should go home to rest, I'd watch over her." Sebastian must have said that five times before I agreed to him to stay back while I go home to take a relaxed nap. The hospital didn't have what it takes to having a stress free sleep. At last, I agreed and went home. In less than five hours, Lily was back home. Sebastian said she was fine and the doctors said that there was no reason to keep the girl waiting. The moment I held her in my arms again, I felt a sense of overwhelming love and protectiveness. However, along with these emotions came an intense fear that gripped my heart. I couldn't shake the thought that my daughter could have spent more days in the hospital, or that something terrible could happen to her at any moment. The pain was so excruciating that it brought tears to my eyes. I couldn't bear the loss of Lily, she had been my driving force, the one why I know all things are possible. Because while I had nothing, she was there, she was growing and was smiling, she
THEACora picked the perfect dress to suit my skin tone and still give me that glow. I wasn't the biggest fan of red, but this maroon satin dress said otherwise. It had a large slit in the front that went from my upper thigh all the way down to my legs. The back was strapped with ropes that weren't tight, knotted in a beautiful pattern. The silver chain had a shiny moon pendant that matched my earrings, and the entire look was a showcase of royalty. Cora clapped her hands together as I got out of the dressing room. My little baby Lisa also jumped and clapped, like she'd seen her favorite cartoon character. I could tell she was also excited about the dress. She ran from the corner to come hug me. "I love this one, mummy." She said smiling with all her teeth. I bent to lift her up into my arms."My precious jewel, and mummy loves you. Shouldn't you be in bed, dear?" I asked her. She placed her head on my shoulders without answering me. She must have still been weak from all the treatmen
THEAI excused myself and went outside. I didn't want to imagine that Tyler left without telling me. He was all smiles when we were planning the surprise birthday party, he couldn't leave without a word. As I stepped outside, lashed by the cold fingers of the wind, I was taken aback by the sight of someone sitting on the staircase. For a moment I stood still, then remembered that the person's clothes looked familiar. It didn't take long for me to figure out it was Tyler and when I cleared my throat, he turned back, his eyes fixed on me with a mix of awe and longing. My heart skipped a beat as I made my way towards him, my senses heightened by the tension between us."Hey," I said softly, sitting down next to him on the step. "What's going on? I thought you left."He chuckled and turned to the moon, his eyes still filled with wonder. "that," he replied, his voice barely above a whisper as he pointed to the cloudless sky. He continued to stare at the moon for what seemed like minutes un
THEAI saw him first before Lily and I immediately went to stand in the doorway. Lily was by my side, holding a welcome home banner she designed herself and I was holding one too. I couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions.Excitement to see Tyler again after a whole lot of time and then the thought about how he would react to the party. As I thought of that, a hint of sadness washed over me and I immediately deleted it from my mind. Although our time together had been cut short by his accident then I was glad he was fine.He would be receiving the rest of his treatments and recovering at home. The doctors said he was healing well, but I knew I would still see the faint scar on his chest, which would be a reminder of the traumatic event that had brought us together - Lily's kidnapping. I took a deep breath and stepped forward when I saw him enter the house, holding out the banner. "Welcome home, Tyler!" I exclaimed, trying to sound cheerful but deep down I was bursting with excitement
THEA"Why do you care about Tyler after all he's put this family through?" This question rang in my head. How would I explain it? Yes, Tyler had helped us, but it wasn't enough for the amount of care I felt entitled to show him.I looked up and met father's gaze, he stared at me expectant of a reply. "When you left, I and Cora moved to Manhattan." I watched his eyelids flutter at the mention of Cora, no doubt he was starting to get emotional."Things were pretty rough, I struggled to build an enterprise from the start before deciding to come back here in quest of revenge against Tyler, but as life would have it; things changed. A lot of things changed.""What changed?""I found out Tyler had a pretty good reason for leaving us, I couldn't really blame him. All he did was try to save us, everybody including you. Also..." I trailed off, unsure of how to break the news of Lily to him."Go on, I won't judge you." I didn't really care about his judgement, I just wasn't sure it was right to
THEAMy eyes were closed and I felt like I was in a different world as the remaining drops of tears escaped from my eyes. I wasn't sure how long my head was bent or if I had drifted off into thought, but the next thing I felt was a tap on the shoulder softly.I paused for a minute to wipe off the corners of my eyes before almost jumping off my chair eager to hear anything from the nurse, maybe then I would calm down. "How is..?" I rose my face from the edge of the chair, but couldn't complete my statement as I stared at the face which stared right back at me. Was this real? The walls of the reception began to revolve around me and for a second my head went blank. Was I dreaming? Someone wake me up, I found it hard to believe. Hard to believe that after so many years of neglect, my father would show up to the hospital in search of me because this was definitely not a coincidence. It wasn't a coincidence that he chose to walk into this particular hospital, pass through the outer lobby a
THEAThe slap that led to all of these replayed in my head. Maybe I did blame myself earlier for Lily's abduction, afterall it was me Sarah was mad at. But now that I think about it, if she had just been sensible and didn't raise her hand to hit me, maybe we wouldn't be here right now.If anything, I hated Sarah more than ever now for whatsoever she put Lily through. Lily looked like a shadow of herself and it scared me so much. Judging from the little I had seen of Sarah, I could imagine she starved my baby of food and most likely put her through pain. She looked frail and she didn't deserve to go through all of these at such a young age.I didn't know when the tears began to fall from my face neither did I try to stop them, I let them flow freely while hugging Lily tightly. "I missed you so much and I'm sorry baby. I'm sorry I let you out of my sight," I whispered into her ears."I'm sorry Lily," Tyler apologized. I resented him a lot because I trusted him to keep watch over Lily as
TYLERI gripped Thea's hand as we sat in the car ready to go to the location. Inputting the coordinates into the GPS, I stared at her and nodded my head "let's do this.""Hell yeah, let's get our daughter back."Inwardly, I knew I was scared, but I couldn't show it. The maniac like laughter of the kidnapper over the phone scared me, what if she was mentally unstable? What if she doesn't release Lily after everything? There were so many what ifs in my head, it was hard to concentrate."Are you okay?" Thea asked as I drove."Sure I'm fine, I just want to get Lily back," I lied."Take a left turn ahead."As directed by the GPS, I turned into the pathway which looked like it led into the woods. Thea's breath hitched audibly as we kept on going and lost track of humans and normal surroundings."You'll arrive at your destination in a minute," the GPS informed. There was a cabin out front and I wondered if that was it.My phone screen lit up with a text message from the kidnapper, we were be
THEAI heard the woman's sinister laughter as she said, "Anything? Are you willing to sacrifice your own life for your daughter? You would do that?"As I saw the tears welled up in Tyler's eyes, I saw he choked back his emotions, probably because he did not want me to break down into tears. He couldn't lose Lily as much as I couldn't, I saw in his eyes that he loved that girl more than gold and silver and when he said, "Yes! I'll give anything if it means Lily's safety. Just tell me what I need to do and where you want to get it from." I knew this was true love from a father to his daughter.I was shocked that Tyler was ready to give everything for the sake of Lily and I knew how much he had suffered to take his company to great heights. I had always known that he was a driven and ambitious person, but I had never realized just how much he had sacrificed for the sake of his business. He had sacrificed a lot, he built up my father's crumbling company. As I thought about it, I could ima
THEA"I just want my daughter..." I said that in my mind after calming my nerves. I sat on the warm sofa, but to me, with my heavy heart, it felt like I was on a cold, vinyl chair in the hospital or the police station, my heart was heavy with worry and my mind racing with thoughts of my missing daughter, Lily. And Tyler, sat across from me, his eyes filled with a mixture of guilt and determination, the policeman was still around and he worked a great deal before I calmed down. From where I sat, I knew Tyler wanted to reach out to me, he did reach out, apologising but I pulled away from him, my anger and resentment still raw. "What good are your apologies now, Tyler? Where is Lily? I trusted you with her."Tyler didn't look at me, he faced the policeman directly. His jaw clenched in determination. "We need to find her. I can't just sit here and do nothing, waiting for your men to find herThe man nodded, his heart heavy with grief. "Yes, we need to find her. And trust me with this, I
THEAIt'd been three days without my baby. Although she wasn't so much of a baby anymore, her absence hit me hard. It gave me time to reflect on many things but I was so used to her presence, it left me longing to see her. Tyler couldn't even call me in the midst of his enjoyment with my daughter. She's his daughter too but she was mine for now, I did raise her on my own. The way things had taken a turn still surprised me. I wasn't so sure if my decisions, but they seemed the best fit for the situations at hand.I bought a new bow and a new game pad on my way to his house. It was going to be a surprise visit, I wanted to catch them in the act. I wondered which games they could have been playing. Sometimes, seeing them together brought tears to my eyes. I had a lot of regrets, but I couldn't count giving birth to my daughter as one. She'd been my greatest blessing. My own father abandoned me, and I know it was unfair to keep the secret of her father away from her. They bonded anyways,
