Chapter 34 Kevin As soon as the meeting ended I jumped up and left. I had been bored out of my mind sitting there. I entered my office and slumped in my chair. I was irritated, restless, and in no mood for work, fun or anything else. I brought out my phone and tried calling the source of my headache, Janet. I had been calling her for the past two days, since our argument in the garage, but she didn’t pick up. Now I found out she had blocked my number. Damn her! I wasn't calling her ever. I cursed and slammed the phone down on my desk. “Whoa! Is that your phone you are trying to break?” Brian asked coming into my office. “ What did it do to you?” “Shut up.” I growled. “What is up with you? You barely said a word at the meeting and you’ve been brooding since yesterday.” He sat down in the visitors chair. “Is it Janet?” I nodded. “Don’t tell me you guys are fighting again.” “We never do anything but fight.” I told him everything going on between us. “You m
Chapter 35 Janet Jason stood up and stretched out his hand. “Long time man. How have you been?” Kevin took the hand reluctantly. “What are doing here?” He asked. “In Dallas? I live here. Moved down from New York.” “I didn’t realize you knew Jason.” Kevin frowned at me. “Yeah we met a couple of days ago.” Jason explained. “Then I found out you guys were engaged. Small world right?” “What are you doing here?” I asked Kevin, slightly annoyed. He had interrupted what Jason had been about to tell me, the truth about Kevin. What truth? Was he abusive? No. I would have heard. I'd heard all the rumors about his escapades but nothing involving battered girlfriends. “I came to see you. We need to talk.” Kevin told me. Jason drained his glass. “Guess I will leave you guys to it. Catch you later Janet, thanks for the drink. Be seeing you Kev.“ He left. “How do you know that guy?” Kevin demanded. “Like he said we met a couple of days ago. Not that it is any of yo
Chapter 36 Anna I sat hunched over my cup of coffee, trying to think of a way out of the mess I was in. I had been crying since yesterday and my eyes were swollen. A week ago when I had pictured the return flight from Honolulu to Dallas I had smiled, thinking how wonderful it would be flying home from my honeymoon with the man I loved by my side. But yesterday, I had flown home alone. I had called Tony repeatedly after he had left me crying in the hotel but it had gone straight to voicemail. I tried contacting him on social media and found out he had blocked me. I was out of my mind with worry. Was he truly going to divorce me? Had he told everyone what had happened? Where was he? And most importantly, how did he find out? Someone had told him I had faked my pregnancy, but how did they know? I hadn’t told anyone one. It was my secret alone. So how had the person found out? And who was it? Not having answers to these questions was torture. If he did carry out his threat t
Chapter 37 Anna It wasn’t Tony but his friend Chance. I didn’t recognize the girl. “Anna!” He grabbed a pillow from the bed and held it against his groin. The girl covered hers with her hands. “Chance what are you doing here?” I asked, glad it wasn’t Tony. “I live here now. Tony didn’t tell you?” “No he didn’t. When did you move in?” “Last week, the day after your wedding. Tony and I had discussed it before. He told me you guys would be getting your own place and I could have this one. When he came over yesterday he-” “Wait, Tony was here yesterday? When?” “Yesterday evening. He came to pick the last of his stuff.” “Any idea where he went?” “No. He didn’t talk much, seemed upset. He just said he would be back later to get his car.” He frowned. “Is everything okay?” “Yes fine. Never mind.” I turned to go. “Can I have the key? Since you guys have moved out and this is now my flat.” Chance asked shyly. Rolling my eyes I tossed him the key and left. I stood o
Chapter 38 Kevin “Are they okay?” Janet asked Fran, moving away from me. I cursed silently thinking of the passionate moment we had been about to have. “Yes they are fine. Anna told me it was just a fender bender.” Fran replied. “I will call her right away.” Janet said. I was surprised by the concern in her voice. If it were me, I won’t be bothered about what happened to the two people who had betrayed me. They could drive off a cliff for all I care. But I could see she really cared for her sister. “I better get going.” I interrupted them. “I will call you later Jan.” “Sure. Bye.” I sat in my car trying to control the desire running through me as I remembered the feel of her skin and the look in her eyes. Damn! Keeping this whole thing strictly business was going to be almost impossible. And now Jason Kale was here.He was up to no good, I knew it. I frowned remembering our history. We had been friends but now he hated me, and for good reason. I drove to Brian’s pl
Chapter 39 Janet There was a huge bouquet of roses on my desk when I came into the office on Monday morning. “They were delivered thirty minutes ago.” Dani explained. By Kevin, I thought. As if reading my mind, my phone rang. “Hey, are you at work?” Kevin asked me. “Yeah, just came in to see roses on my desk. Any idea where they came from?” “Take a guess.” I laughed and shut the door. “Is this part of the deal? I thought we only showed love in public?” “Yeah it is. People in your office will see it and know how romantic our relationship is. And I did promise you gifts.” “Well thanks. I like it.” “Any word from Breed?” I sighed as I sat down. “ No. Nothing on Lois yet.” “Maybe you were wrong. Maybe she isn’t cheating.” “No. I know what I saw.” “Well if she is, Breed will find out. He is good. How about lunch?” “Sure.” “See you later.” I hung up smiling. Lunch with Aunt Viv yesterday had been great. Watching her and Kevin together was so sweet . And t
Chapter 40 Janet I stared at Dani. “Second chance?” I asked. “Yes. Sending your ex a bouquet of daisies means you want to get back with them.” “I have never heard of that. How did you know?” She laughed. “My mom is a florist. She owns a shop in the middle of town. I used to help out sometimes. I learnt all about the different meaning of flowers.” “But it doesn’t have to be wanting a second chance right? Daisies can be sent for other reasons, can’t they?” “Sure. But most times people send flowers that have a meaning.” “I wonder which of my ex’s want to come back. Not that I am going to let it happen.” I smiled. Dani shrugged. “Well I’m sure you will know soon enough.” She returned to her desk and I placed the daisies near the roses, still wondering who it could be. Definitely not Tony. Maybe Evan? Last I heard of the loser, he and Alex were fighting over child support. They had married after high school because she has gotten pregnant, then divorced when she caugh
Chapter 41 Anna “Welcome back honey.” Dad beamed when I entered his office that afternoon. “ How are you doing?” “Great. Thanks dad.” “Are you okay?” He asked looking at me with concern. “I am fine. Just a little tired from a lot of unpacking yesterday.” “Take it easy honey, stress isn’t good for the baby.” I flinched, then tried to smile as I noticed dad looking at me. “Are you sure you are okay? Do you want to take a break till the baby is born?” He asked. “No. I am okay dad.” “And Tony How is he doing?” “Fine. Everything is fine.” Thankfully Janet came in. After the brief meeting I left for my office. There I buried my face in my hands, trying to think a solution to my problems. Everyone thought I was pregnant but I wasn’t, and now Tony had refused to speak or even look at me, I would never get pregnant for him. It was clear he had no plan to forgive me. Was he truly going to divorce me and get back with Janet? He had been drunk when he'd said it but the
