I sat in the living room impatiently looking at my watch.

It was a Sunday afternoon and the weather was hot and stuffy. Being indoors with the air conditioner on full blast was like paradise on earth. Aside the weather I couldn’t have gone out even if I wanted to. I was waiting for Rita. In a few hours she would be paying for all she had done against Jan and I.

I had called her the evening before after leaving Jan’s house.

“So you called huh?” She asked. “ I was thinking you guys had changed your mind about wanting the baby.”

“I am doing it for Jan. Left to me I don’t give a damn what you do.” I said.

“So what will it be? Although since you have called me I can guess.”

“I will give you five million.” I said.

“Great and I thought you were serious.”

“I am. Five million is fair.”

“I am not negotiating. Ten million or nothing.”
