Chapter 85

We all sat at the table patiently waiting for Lucas and Jenny to come back home. Mother and I had cleared the table in a way to escape the agony and distract our minds, but when everything was sparkling clean, there was not much to do other than wait.

Suddenly, light seeped through the blinds and I shot up from my seat and stood by the window.

“It’s them!” I declared as I rushed to open the door and meet them. Their cars had lined up outside by the road, and they both alighted at the same time, walking to the house together. Jenny looked much more at ease than before, and when she fell in my embrace, I could tell she was feeling better too. Lucas pecked me on the forehead as Jenny was welcomed back into the house by our parents. I mouthed a low ‘thank you to Lucas as we walked arm-in-arm after them.
