53: Like A Punch In The Gut

Jessica's POV.

The air was thick with tension as I stormed into the office. The man I’d hired—whose name I still didn’t care to remember—was lounging behind a desk cluttered with papers and half-empty coffee cups. His demeanor was annoyingly casual, given the magnitude of the job he was supposed to be handling.

“Why the hell hasn’t this been done yet?” I demanded, my voice sharp enough to cut through glass. “It’s been a month and two weeks since I paid you $500,000 to eliminate Allison Miles. I expect results, not excuses!”

He looked up from his desk with an air of indifference that only fueled my rage. “Jessica, relax,” he said calmly, “Allison Miles is no ordinary woman. You don’t just sweep her out of the way without proper planning. I’m still monitoring her to strike at the perfect time.”
