"Mom, Samuel is leaving now. Once again, happy birthday."
After finishing conversations and mingling with all the important guests present at the party, Samuel decided to head home promptly. After all, she was aware that tonight she was bringing Arianna along, and it didn't feel right to keep a girl out late, even though she had every right to do so since she had paid the woman so handsomely.
Besides being tired, Samuel was also not in the mood to deal with all the questions from her mother and extended family. That's why as soon as the event ended, she quickly took Arianna to say goodbye.
"Thank you so much for coming and keeping your promise to introduce Arianna to Mama. Just so you know, Mama is very happy tonight," Arabella expressed. She gave Samuel a hug before letting her son leave the party.
"Samuel is also happy if Mama had a good time tonight."
"Oh, definitely," Arabella replied. "Especially Arianna's presence made Mama's party even livelier. I hope we can meet her again sometime in the future."
After hugging Samuel, Arabella turned to Arianna. With a friendly smile, the still spry woman of not-so-young age gave Arianna a hug and planted kisses on both of her cheeks.
"Thank you so much for being here, Arianna. See you at the next gathering."
Arianna smiled back and, after breaking the hug, responded to Arabella's friendly words.
"You're welcome, Aunt. Uh, I mean, Mama." Arianna quickly corrected herself. "I'm also happy to celebrate your birthday today. I pray that Mama stays healthy, and whatever your dreams are, I hope they come true soon."
After bidding farewell, still putting on an affectionate act, Samuel took Arianna and headed straight to the car. She instructed her private driver to take them away from the venue.
Throughout the ride home with Arianna, Samuel couldn't stop complaining. She was annoyed that the woman she had paid so handsomely had only made her situation more complicated.
Intending not to disappoint her mother regarding the promise of bringing a partner, Arianna's presence had only added to the list of Samuel's problems. Little did she expect that Arabella, unexpectedly, would announce an engagement, even mentioning her son's wedding to all the important guests at the birthday party.
Samuel knew her mother's nature all too well. Once she spoke, she was adamant about not retracting her words, let alone canceling what she had announced.
"This is all because of you, Arianna!"
"Why is it my fault?"
Arianna turned to Samuel, her boss, and sighed. She felt that the man next to her was ungrateful. Despite her almost perfect performance that night.
"Yes, it's your fault! Arianna Maya can't be blamed for this. If only you hadn't talked so much at the party, maybe Mama wouldn't have brought up the engagement, let alone announcing a wedding." Samuel still appeared very angry, venting all her frustration on her new secretary. "Besides, why did you keep talking and pretending to be close to the clients at the party? Why didn't you just stay quiet?"
"I have a mouth, too, Sir," Arianna retorted. "Besides, you're the one who asked me to improvise. So, I did it to appear friendly to Mrs. Arabella's business associates. You should be happy, right? Look, they were all enthusiastic about my presence. Some even asked for advice and such."
Samuel's face looked even angrier and irritated. He also just realized that besides being articulate, his secretary had high self-confidence.
"Yeah! Because of your fake friendliness and pretentious knowledge, now the problem has become longer and more complicated."
"If you think it's complicated, that's not my concern. From the beginning, I warned you that lying to your parents was dangerous. It could backfire. But you insisted, right?"
Samuel stared sharply at Arianna. Why did his secretary seem more annoying the longer this conversation went on? Every time Samuel said something, she always had a response.
"So now you're blaming me?"
"Well, from the beginning, it was your idea," Arianna replied nonchalantly. She didn't care about Samuel's angry expression at all.
"So why did you agree to go with Mama to Surabaya?" Samuel asked next.
Arianna took a deep breath. Trying not to get provoked, she responded to Samuel's complaints as calmly as possible. She didn't want to clutter her brilliant mind with the pointless conversation Samuel had been engaging in.
"As for the business trip to Surabaya, if you have a problem with it, I can just cancel it with the excuse of being sick. What's the big deal? Don't make something simple complicated, Sir."
"Arghh!"
Instead of responding, Samuel chose to turn away. He deliberately looked out the car window while observing the passing vehicles. With controlled breaths, he continued to try to hold back his emotions to avoid crossing any boundaries.
Meanwhile, Arianna did the same. She chose to keep her mouth shut until Samuel's car stopped not far from the mini-market where he had picked her up earlier.
"Thank you for picking me up and dropping me off, Sir. I hope this is the last cooperation we do outside of office hours," she said after getting out and before closing the car door.
"Do you think I'd want to work with you again?" Samuel retorted cynically.
"Well, who knows? Besides, no one knows what will happen in the future, right?"
"The problem is, I don't want to work with you anymore. Expensive and just adding to my problems."
Arianna didn't respond further. After closing the door, she watched as her boss's car drove away, leaving her on the side of the road feeling extremely frustrated.
"Next time if you ask for help again, I won't agree. Such an annoying boss!"

Samuel entered his home with mixed feelings. He took off the black suit he was wearing and tossed it in any direction. A few moments later, he walked over to the mini-bar not far from the pantry.
For a moment, the tall and sturdy man chose to sit in silence. After a few minutes had passed, he slowly reached out and grabbed a glass along with a neatly arranged bottle of wine. He poured a glass and sipped it slowly.
"Why does it have to be so complicated, Lord," Samuel muttered with frustration. He briefly closed his eyes, brought his hand to his forehead, and gave it a quick massage as if trying to alleviate a sudden throbbing ache. "If only Valerie had come to Mama's party, it might not have turned out like this."
As he remembered Valerie, Samuel quickly took out his phone from his trouser pocket, intending to contact his beloved girlfriend. He was sure Valerie had been looking for him all day because he had been too busy with work and hadn't had a chance to reach out to her.
Hoping for her to answer his call, Samuel patiently waited. It didn't take long before Valerie finally answered the call he had been making.
"Hello, Valerie."
"Yes, Honey. Are you still awake?" the woman on the other end asked. Hearing the lively background noise in their conversation, Samuel was sure Valerie was either at a photoshoot or attending a fashion show.
"Not yet, dear," Samuel replied gently. "I just got back from Mama's birthday party."
"Oh my God."
Valerie exclaimed, perhaps just realizing that today was Samuel's mother's birthday celebration, an event she had missed for the umpteenth time due to her busy modeling schedule. Feeling guilty, she tried to convey her apologies to her boyfriend.
"I'm sorry if I can't be with you tonight, love. I feel really bad about it."
"It's okay. What can we do? I understand that your work schedule is quite hectic," Samuel responded casually.
"But please give my regards to your mom, okay?" she asked.
"I've already done that. So, you don't need to worry," Samuel replied. Of course, he didn't take Valerie's request seriously.
Before leaving, Valerie had reminded Samuel to convey her regards and apologize once again for not being able to attend the birthday celebration, as she had to leave the country for work. One day before the birthday event began, Valerie had even reminded Samuel during their phone call not to forget what she had asked him to do.
However, Samuel, instead of delivering Valerie's greetings and messages, had opted to find a replacement woman to bring to the party and show off during his mother's birthday celebration.
Now? Samuel seemed to regret following Axel's plan. Not only was his relationship with Valerie at risk, but also his status as Arabella Walters's child could be jeopardized if he were caught in such a significant lie.
"Thank goodness you've conveyed it. So, how was the event? It must have been quite lively."
"It was okay," Samuel replied lazily. Instead of continuing the conversation about the party, Samuel was more interested in discussing something else with his girlfriend. "Where are you now? It sounds really noisy."
"I just finished a photoshoot. Now I'm in the evaluation session before my appearance tonight."
"When will your work be done? I mean, when will your work in Paris be finished?"
A small laugh came from Valerie. Still talking to Samuel, the beautiful woman then replied, "I'm in Paris until Wednesday, dear. After that—"
"After that, you're coming back to Indonesia according to the schedule you informed earlier, right?" Samuel interrupted. His tone, initially lazy, suddenly became enthusiastic.
"No, dear. I won't be coming back next week," Valerie whispered. Her voice sounded weaker.
"What do you mean?"
"Yes. I won't be coming back next week."
"But isn't your schedule still far off, Valerie? It's still two weeks away. Why don't you come back first?"
Valerie didn't respond immediately. There was a moment of silence, and then a faint sigh was heard, followed by Valerie's answer to Samuel's preValerieus question.
"I'm sorry. It's because my performances here look the best. One of the Canadian fashion designers working with Dior personally selected me to participate in a fashion show in Los Angeles next month."
As if running out of words, Samuel chose to remain silent. He was sure it would be futile to argue with his girlfriend, especially when it came to dreams and aspirations.
Samuel realized that Valerie had always been ambitious to become a top model who could venture into the international fashion world. Now, when the opportunity was wide open, Valerie would do anything to ensure that her dream went as she had hoped for all these years.
"So, you're not coming back anytime soon?" Samuel asked again. There was a hint of disappointment in his words.
"Yes. I'm sorry. It's possible I'll be abroad for a long time."
"For how long?"
"Maybe one to two months. At most, I'll be back in Indonesia in three months."
"Valerie! Are you serious? Are you sure we can handle long-distance for that long?"
"If you miss me, you can come to visit me overseas, Ken. You have plenty of money."
"That's not the point, Valerie. You know I've just taken on this new position. I can't just go abroad without a valid reason, especially just for dating."
"Well, then, it means you have to be patient, Ken. Besides, three months isn't long, you know. In Indonesia, we can't meet every day because you're often busy. So, what's the difference?"
Seemingly at a loss for words, Samuel remained silent. To him, arguing would be pointless. Valerie was the type of woman who couldn't be contradicted once she said something. No matter how vehemently he protested, it wouldn't sway her decision.
Moreover, this wasn't the first time Samuel had objected to Valerie's decisions, which often seemed one-sided. She was used to acting selfishly, thinking mostly of herself without considering Samuel.
"It's up to you whether you want to come back or not," Samuel said after being silent for a while. He had initially called to express his longing, but now he felt annoyed and frustrated after having a long conversation with his girlfriend.
"Samuel."
Valerie's voice softened. Maybe she realized that her boyfriend was now angry.
"Don't be angry like that, dear."
"I'm not angry. But I just don't like how you make decisions without discussing them first."
"Samuel, listen. I don't want you—"
"It's already late, Valerie," Samuel interrupted. "I want to rest. You can continue your work. One thing to remember, I won't force you to come back to Indonesia quickly. If you can act on your own terms, I can do the same."
Samuel, who was already angry, immediately hung up the call without giving Valerie a chance to explain or say goodbye as usual.
Today, Ariana appeared busy completing all the tasks Samuel assigned to her. There were so many of them that she even had to skip lunch. If Ariana thought about it, it seemed like Samuel intentionally gave her endless tasks. For some reason, Ariana believed that all of this was still related to her boss's anger over everything that happened at Mrs. Arabella's birthday party. "Such an annoyance! The boss is so unprofessional. Does he really think that end-of-month tasks need to be done right now? Is he even sane?" Grumbling, Ariana's eyes remained focused on her personal computer screen. She was determined to finish all the work Samuel had given her today. She didn't want to go home late because she had to drown in tasks. Not a chance, she thought! "Ariana, I looked everywhere for you, and here you are hiding." Chacha, Ariana's friend from a different department, paid her a visit. Realizing that Ariana was nowhere to be found during the lunch break, Chacha took the initiative to se
While waiting for Ariana, who was in the restroom, Chacha was seen helping to organize the files that Ariana had previously arranged. She neatly arranged them from the oldest date to the newest. Continuing to sort the files, suddenly, a woman's voice was heard from behind. As Chacha turned, she immediately stood up and saluted. "Mrs. Arabella." Chacha greeted while bowing respectfully. She was quite surprised to find the mother of Pasific Place's leader suddenly visiting after so long. She wondered what business had brought the queen to their office. "Is Samuel in his office?" Arabella asked. "Yes, Ma'am," Chacha quickly replied. "Mr. Samuel is inside with Mr. Axel. It seems they are conducting a performance evaluation. Would you like me to escort you in?" Arabella shook her head, smiling in response to what Chacha had told her. "No need. I'll go in by myself. Thank you for the information." Arabella then walked into the room. After making sure that the queen's presence was out
Ariana rubbed her face in frustration. She didn't know what else to say when she remembered the dinner at Arabella's house just a few hours ago. Ariana had intended to be honest in order to make Samuel's parents feel at ease. However, the opposite had happened. What Ariana said and shared only seemed to draw even more attention from the Prawira couple. "It seems Samuel can't invite Ariana's parents over, Mom," Samuel said at the time. She said this on purpose because she didn't want to complicate their fake relationship further and lead to unwanted problems. "Why?" Arabella asked curiously. "Don't you want to introduce Mama to Ariana's parents?" "It's not like that," Ariana replied. Finally, she joined the conversation, thinking that what she said next might make Arabella stop wanting to marry her and Samuel. "Both of my parents have been gone for a long time. I'm actually an orphan. I've been living in an orphanage since birth. That's why it's highly unlikely that you both will me
Axel could clearly see Samuel's sour expression since this morning. Believing that his boss might be going through something, he decided to muster the courage to ask. Who knows, he might be able to help solve the problem Samuel was currently facing. Furthermore, Axel couldn't let Samuel continue to be so irritable. In the long run, it would affect the man's performance in completing his tasks. "What's really going on, sir? I've noticed for a while now that you seem a bit puzzled," Axel inquired. Samuel turned and, after sighing repeatedly, attempted to answer Axel's question with uncertainty. Whatever he was thinking right now seemed to be bothering him, not a little, but a lot. "You can read this proposal yourself," Samuel said, offering a folder with documents to Axel. He preferred his assistant to read it himself rather than explaining it as usual. After a few minutes of reading and trying to understand the content, Axel immediately smiled. The excitement was clearly visible on
Actually, getting married is a very sacred thing for an Samuel Walters. He hopes to go through the wedding process only once in his life, and it must be with the woman he loves very much. Nevertheless, she still does not agree with what Samuel wants and chooses to pur
Sweat trickled down Arianna's forehead as she clutched her stomach, asking the taxi driver to pull over at one of the pharmacies along the roadside.Due to being late for dinner, her long-standing stomach ailment had flared up, making her extremely uncomfortable until this morning. As a result, Arianna curled up on the bed for a while. After feeling a bit better, she slowly prepared herself to head to the office. She could have taken a sick day, but remembering the pending work that needed to be completed before stopping, Arianna forced herself to go. She chose to make a quick stop at the pharmacy before continuing her journey to the office. She didn't care if Axton or Samuel would be angry later because she arrived later than usual.Upon reaching the office and walking towards the lobby, Arianna was slightly surprised. She saw some of her colleagues gathered not far from the reception desk.Initially, she chose to ignore them and continued walking towards her room. However, when she
Since morning, after returning from the market, Arianna chose to take a quick shower and then busied herself in the kitchen. It's been her habit every Sunday to spend time preparing breakfast and lunch for all the residents of the orphanage. With the help of Citra and Angela, the three of them cooked several dishes to be served. Earlier, they had already cooked fried rice with scrambled eggs to be eaten for breakfast. After finishing breakfast, they prepared several dishes like tamarind soup paired with grilled grouper and shrimp paste chili. And not to forget vegetable soup with breaded fried chicken in a considerable amount for lunch."It's rare to cook this much. We're like preparing for a feast," Angela said while flipping the grilled fish."Once in a while. Luckily, I have some extra income. Besides, it's been a while since we had grilled fish," Arianna replied."The other kids will be really happy because today we have breaded fried chicken and vegetable soup.""Hopefully, every
Arianna was indeed born an orphan. Throughout her life, she never dared to dream of anything too high or peculiar.Since the beginning, Arianna only hoped to have a good job with a decent salary, enough to support and dedicate her entire life to fulfilling the needs of the orphanage as a form of gratitude.Arianna was certain that without the presence of Mother Laila, she wouldn't be where she is today. Her foster mother struggled tirelessly to educate her, enabling her to pursue higher education up to the college level. Even upon graduating, Arianna landed a good job as an HRD staff at a prestigious company like PAsific Palace. In the past, Arianna thought her life would go smoothly without any obstacles. For a few years, everything, be it personal matters or work, went very smoothly.Until recently, when she got a promotion. Arianna thought her life would get even better in the future. However, this assumption did not prove true this time.It seemed like fate wanted to play games wi
During Arianna's first delivery, Arabella was visibly excited, eagerly awaiting and welcoming the birth of her grandchild. This time, however, Darwin and Randy were the ones filled with enthusiasm over the birth of Samuel and Arianna's twin babies. It all started with Samuel assigning his two cousins the task of naming their newly born son and daughter. Samuel and Arianna were indeed grateful because their children were born as twins and even had matching genders. "So, have you got the names for the babies yet?" Samuel asked. At the moment, both cousins along with other family members were gathered in the hospital room. Even Rama was present at the hospital. He happened to have a task that brought him to Indonesia for a few days. Upon hearing from Arabella that Arianna had just given birth, he hurriedly visited with his mother. After being given a few hours to think, Randy, who was sitting, immediately looked up. Standing up, he then approached Samuel. "I've got one, not sure abo
In the car on the way to somewhere, Samuel laughed loudly. He chuckled to himself after listening to his wife's story, who intended to retaliate against Randy. Samuel didn't object at all. He thought his cousin needed to be taught a lesson once in a while to learn his lesson. "I can't imagine how annoyed Randy's face must be, having to treat and unwillingly pay for the orders I've already placed," Arianna exclaimed, continuing to laugh. "You're absolutely right." "Let it be! He brought it on himself by being mischievous. Besides, it's nothing compared to what he's done to me countless times. It's also a good deed. We'll donate the food to the orphanage," Arianna replied without feeling any remorse. Then she shifted the topic by asking Samuel something else. "By the way, where are you taking me? I've been wondering for a while now." Samuel glanced briefly, smiling as he answered his wife's curiosity. "I'm planning to surprise you," he said, keeping his focus on the road ahead. "A
Upon realizing she had been blatantly deceived by Randy, the next day Arianna invited Samuel's cousin to have lunch together. With the intention of seeking direct clarification and giving a lengthy lecture on what he had done to her. That's why, after dropping Kalvin off at Arabella's house, Arianna hurried to her husband's office first. Upon arrival, she chose to wait for a moment in Samuel's room because he was currently attending a meeting with other Pacific executives. "After a more in-depth evaluation, there are no longer any obstacles found in this project. I think, going forward, we just need to monitor the progress of the tower construction and then discuss it again. Randy seemed serious as he presented and led the meeting today. While Samuel, from his seat, observed. Occasionally noting the important points conveyed by his cousin. "From our side, there are no issues or matters that need clarification at all, Mr. Randy," replied Agatha, who was attending the meeting today.
Since the unclear argument that happened last night, this morning Arianna continued her silent treatment. Despite still serving and even preparing breakfast for her husband, she did everything in silence. As a result, Samuel, unable to stand being ignored any longer, immediately confronted her. Seeking to ascertain what was really going on with his wife. "Honey..." called out Samuel. His usually firm voice sounded gentle this morning. Yet deep down, he was also frustrated at being ignored by his wife for too long. "Are you tired of being angry and ignoring me all the time? If I've done something wrong, I genuinely apologize," pleaded the man. He continued to gaze intently at Arianna, who was busy pouring milk into her glass. Today, Samuel didn't have to work as it coincided with a holiday. He had plans to take his wife out. However, seeing Arianna still angry since last night, Samuel was puzzled on how to persuade her. "I'm not angry," replied Arianna. Meeting his gaze, she spoke
Arianna knew that her relationship with Samuel had started accidentally. It began with a plan to secure a big tender while deceiving Arabella, and they agreed to a contractual marriage. Over time, love grew between them. Samuel was even the first person to declare his love for the woman he had married. They both promised to take their marriage seriously, to care for each other, to support and complement each other, to stay together faithfully until the end of their lives. Seeing Samuel's sincerity, love, and affection over the years, Arianna doubted that her husband was up to something behind her back. However, after noticing several oddities and Samuel's increasingly strange behavior, Arianna decided to find out what was really going on. Arianna had every reason to be suspicious. Samuel's recent movements only added to her concerns. Like detectives in movies, Arianna sought Randy's help to tail her husband, who was heading somewhere unknown. From the office, they cautiously follow
"If you look at it, land preparation and access roads are not a problem anymore. I'm optimistic that this project can be completed within a maximum period of 2 years," Samuel said, currently discussing in the meeting room with Randy and Agatha. They were indeed in a discussion, talking about the apartments and shopping center that would soon be built. All three of them looked serious, exchanging ideas to be evaluated later. Agatha, starting to feel comfortable at Pasific, didn't miss a chance to hear how Samuel presented his ideas briefly. Agatha had to admit, her ex-boyfriend was very credible in carrying out his tasks and responsibilities. Agatha was even impressed by Samuel's demeanor, always serious in giving explanations. "When the towers here are completed, the next step will be the groundbreaking for the tower in Singapore, right?" Agatha asked to confirm. "Yes, that's correct," Samuel nodded. "That means our team will take turns staying in Singapore." Agatha smiled widely
Arianna watched her husband carefully as he enjoyed his breakfast. Since last night, she couldn't stop thinking. Where did Samuel go, actually? He claimed to be going out and wanted to meet Randy to discuss something. But, when directly asked, Randy himself didn't seem to know anything about it. He even insisted that he was at home because he had just returned from the office. So, did Samuel lie to her? But why? Why did her husband have to lie like that? Because of what happened last night, negative thoughts immediately flooded her mind. Full of questions, she pondered what Samuel was hiding because his behavior had been very strange lately. "Sweetheart," Arianna spoke up after taking a sip of warm milk from the glass she held. "Yes, what is it, honey?" Samuel replied, smiling at Arianna and waiting for her to speak. "Is there anything you want to tell me or talk about?" she asked cautiously, her words inviting questions in Samuel's mind. "Talk? About what?" he asked, puzzled by
"Finally, you're back here, Mrs. Agatha. Mr. Samuel and I hope that for the next two months, you'll be comfortable here in Indonesia and the Pacific," Randy warmly greeted Agatha as she returned to Indonesia. While discussing project schedules, he occasionally threw jokes to lighten the atmosphere. "Thank you very much for the warm welcome, Mr. Randy and Mr. Samuel. I'm truly delighted to be back here and working on projects with great people like both of you," replied Agatha with a smile. Her gaze didn't stray from the figure of the man in the gray suit, who was none other than Samuel. He was the one she wanted to meet at the company. Samuel reciprocated with an equally friendly smile. After Randy, it was his turn to speak. "I hope that during the project execution and supervision process, there won't be any significant obstacles or difficulties. Even if there are any problems or something that needs consultation later on, don't hesitate to ask for help from me, Mr. Randy, or any
Entering the eighth month of pregnancy, Arianna's belly was noticeably large. Fortunately, in this final trimester, she still had the freedom to engage in many activities. Despite feeling tired more quickly, she still enjoyed everything she did. Besides, it would be boring to just sit around or spend a lot of time watching TV and lounging in the room as Samuel often suggested."I think you should just stay home and enjoy some me-time. Whether it's watching Korean dramas, relaxing while snacking, or inviting someone over. Ask Chacha or Madam Laila to accompany you for a chat rather than going out alone," her husband often said.Arianna had heard this sentence many times from her husband's mouth. Somehow, in this second pregnancy, Samuel's worries were evident from the beginning."If I stay at home all the time, I'll get bored, Sam. I want to go to the office or go out. Spend time outside," Arianna replied.
