Tom's POV
"Sir?" My secretary poked a head through the office door, looking like she was playing peek-a-boo with a child. I raised my head to look at her, frowning at the look on her face.
"What?"
She gnawed on her bottom lip and it irritated me. I was too damned busy for someone who wasn't sure of what she wanted to disturb me. I had a gazillion things to do. And one of them included figuring out what to do with my jumpy wife.
Eve. I gritted my teeth at the thought of her. I was damned irritated. Two weeks and the woman was still a nervous wreck around me. It wasn't like I didn't particularly relish the thought of her being afraid of me.
The thought had a lot of merit and I quite liked it. However, it was getting me nowhere. I still didn't know who had told her about her father's death and where on earth she had spent those few days that she had gon
Eve's POV"Finn Barlow!" Tom's voice rang, piercing through my senses and forced me to look up at the man who approached us. Dread filled me rapidly as I watched the old cruel bastard march towards us, a wide grin on his face. His eyes fell on me and his grin widened and for one disgusting moment, his tongue slipped out to wet his lips. My skin crawled at the sight. Somewhere in my head, I could hear myself screaming.No.No!NO!This wasn't happening! Was that why Tom had insisted we had dinner together tonight? Was this all part of his plan?! How could he do this to me?!To think that a part of me had begun to hope that perhaps things with him wouldn't be so bad if he was going out of his way to be caring.I hadn't expected the dinner date tonight. In fact
Tom's POV"Your wife looks happy to see me," Barlow chuckled and I frowned, looking at the doors that my wife in question had just fled through. She literally bolted out of her chair like I had set fire to her ass."She does?" I chuckled, turning to face Barlow. The man literally had the face of a pig. Beady eyes, round nose and neck that was too thick and ridden with fat.Once he had been one of the top dogs of the business world and perhaps he still was, but Barlow was only a ghost of his former self. That much was clear.People rarely thought or talked about him anymore. Hell, I had totally forgotten about him until he showed up, dressed in some shiny wine suit that looked like it belonged in Vegas instead. He always did have odd tastes. And a terribly odd sense of fashion. However his taste of bu
Eve's POVThey were taking too long. I thought, antsy and trembling in the car. My hands trembled together though they were clasped so tight, I could feel my nails biting into my skin. I could feel the urge to draw blood. The urge to scream. The urge to bail for it.Tom had left me alone in the car anyways, if I could find my way back home and tuck myself in bed, safe from Fin Barlow's dirty gaze and his dirty words.Everything about him disgusted me. Every single thing. He Didn't have an ounce of decency in his bones, I knew that well. I had been a victim of that lack. What decent man in his right senses would demand to have sex with another man's wife, claiming that as his investment?"No one else but Finn Barlow,"And what bastard would allow his wife to be pawned off as an investment to an even older bastard
Madeline's POV"Oh my gosh, aren't they adorable?!" Mrs Stone cooed over the pictures of babies wearing superhero costumes that had been uploaded on the internet.I glanced from the tablet in her hands, to the pouting faces she made at the images, then back to the tablet. There was an urge. A deep seated urge to roll my eyes at whatever this ridiculousness was. But I couldn't risk doing that. I needed the woman to like me afterall. She was the only hand I had against Adam. My only way to reach him. If anyone could make my dreams of getting married to Adam come true, it was her.So I didn't roll my eyes. I stifled the urge, forced a smile on my lips and said in the most fluttery voice I could muster. "Oh my gosh they are! Look at that cute little green boy!""I know!" She squealed and swiped the pictures to
Adam's POV.I parked my car into my mother's driveway trying to resist the urge to turn the vehicle around and bail the hell out of there. I was tired. I was weary. All I wanted to do was take a long nap. It was a hectic day at the office. And a hectic day in my mind.Grumbling incoherently under my breath, I eyed my mother's building, wondering if I couldn't bail on dinner today. I had missed having dinner with her last week and she had granted and granted as if I had publicly disowned her.So dramatic. I was going through shit. I had found out my shitty ex accountant was getting released. I had also found out that Eve had returned to Tom.The last thought made me punch the steering wheel even though clearly, none of this was it's fault. It was just appalling to see. Or hearing and knowing she had chosen to return to that bas
Tom's POVThe ride back home was hell. All I could think about was Barlow's stupid face asking to sleep with Eve again. It had been one time dammit! Just one time! And I had been a desperate man. For him to suggest it again only meant he was a dirty old bastard. Oh he would regret it. I would make sure of that. But the redevelopment plan, a voice in my head whined and I closed my eyes briefly, tightening my grip on the steering wheel.Damn it all!If the redevelopment plan had worked out, I would rake in billions by the end of the year! I would have enough to finally be worthy of Stone's time. Except I doubted if that jackass thought anyone was worthy of his time. The last meeting I had with him, he had collected the contract and claimed he would get back to me. Well that was weeks ago and I hadn't received a single call, not one call at all, f
Madeline's POVHe wouldn't look at me. The only thing he had said to me all through the car ride was to stay away from his mother. I had laughed it off because he had to be joking. There was no way he believed that I would stay away from.his mother just because he had asked me to. That was hilarious. From then on, every single attempt I had made to start a conversation had ended up in silence and nothingness. He had his eyes fixed on the road, his jaw clenched so hard I could literally hear those teeth grind against each other.I couldn't give up though. I had to make Adam mine. We were so good together while we dated. All I had to do was remind him just how good we were together it would seem. He parked on the sidewalk of my home and killed off the engine, still not saying a word."Ah Adam," I teased, chuckling softly. "Why so tense?"
Tom's POV"Sir?" My secretary called, stepping into my office.I gave her a grunt in response, not looking up from the files I had been reading."There's a call for you from the manager of the hotel in New Orleans," she said and I raised my head at that. Why was the manager in New Orleans calling? His hotel was one of the thriving hotels I had. It made up at least twenty percent of my company's value. But I hadn't received a personal call from him in a long time.I beckoned for her to hand me the phone."Hello Asher, to what do I owe this sudden call?""Hello Mr Harrison," was it just me or did he sound quite glum? "I'm afraid I do not have good news,"I sat up straighter than. What the hell was going on? Was it the government? Was it the people? What on earth was
