Chapter 101

Nicholas sat down in the weird-looking room, and he couldn’t wait to be out of it. It looked like something out of the junkyard.

"How can I help you, Mr. Nicholas?" Jack asked, ready to get the meeting over and done with. He had other things to bother with than a man who had abandoned his supposed wife.

"Nothing much; I just came to appreciate you for your help. I learned how much you have helped Mary in my absence, and this is just a little token to show it." Nicholas said. He removed an envelope from his pocket and slid it toward Jack.

Jack took one look at it; there was no doubt that it was money that was there from the obvious bulge, and he shook his head. "Oh no. You don’t have to do this. It is bygone." He replied, refusing the money, but his gaze was still fixed on the envelope. Just how much could be there? He wondered.

"I insist. It is just a little token for accommodating her and feeding her. Mary had told me how helpful you have been, even to the point of my son’s birth.
