-Eve-
I arrived home smiling as I remembered what had happened that day.
“Is that you Eve?” my grandmother called out from the kitchen.
“Yes, Nana,” I replied as I hurriedly walked toward the kitchen to give her a hug and kiss.
My parents died in a car accident when I was still young and all I have was my Nana. Everything I had been working hard for was all for her. I wanted to make sure that she could stop selling at the market and just enjoy some time with her friends instead.
“Set the table dear,” she replied as turned off the stove.
I helped her bring everything she had cooked to the table and was surprised at the amount of food she had cooked.
“Why did you cook a lot, Nana?” I asked as I took the seat in front of her and was ready to dig in when Nana’s question surprised me.
“It’s your first day of your internship, isn’t Stephen joining us?” Her question was so innocent that I couldn’t help but feel guilty that I hadn’t told her what Stephen did to me.
“No, he won’t I replied,” as I started to dig in.
“Oh,” she said in surprise. “I thought he was coming to propose to you.”
“What do you mean?” I asked in confusion.
“I just thought that since you are now working and at the right age, the two of you would finally tie the knot,” Nana explained smiling.
“Nana,” I started to say, not sure how to break the news to her. All I told her was that I was given the opportunity to work in a very nice company. That I was hand-picked. Not to mention the real reason why I was really going to work there.
“It would really make me happy, my dear child, to see you walk that aisle, and to have someone to take care of you,” she looked down at her plate as she continued, “I am not getting any younger and it is my wish to see you all settled down.”
“Nana…”
Suddenly our doorbell rang, confusing me as I was not expecting anyone.
Nana was about to stand up but I stopped her and checked who it was. As I view the monitor of our doorbell I found the person I never want to see again.
“Nana,” I shouted as I prepared to get out, “finish eating, I’ll just buy some ice cream.”
“You haven’t finished eating yet,” Nana shouted back.
“I am a bit full because we had a company dinner,” I lied. “Just finish eating and I will clean everything once I am back.”
I didn’t wait for her reply as I rushed outside and opened the gate of the house.
“What the hell are you doing here, Stephen?” I asked as I pulled him away from my house and led him to the playground where we used to meet up.
“Can’t you help me out, Evie?” I cringe hearing the nickname he gave me.
“Seriously, Stephen, you ask me for a favor after cheating on me?”
“I did it for us, Evie,” he shouted. “None of it was real. I was just using her. I needed her connection so that I could create a better future for us.”
“You wanted to create a better future by marrying my best friend and making a fool out of me? Wow, Stephen, just wow. Can’t you make a better excuse?”
“I was planning to divorce her once I got what I wanted,” he replied as he fell to his knees in front of me. “Please, Evie. All I wanted was a better life for us.”
“Divorce? Better life? Are you fucking serious right now, Stephen?” I can’t believe what he was saying and how can he think that all of these words are making me feel better?
“You need to believe me, Evie,” he continued to say with a slur, “It’s for us.”
“No, Stephen,” I replied. “None of it is for us, because the moment that you married my best friend there was no us.”
I started to walk away and leave him at the sandbox when he pulled my hand and started crying as he begged me to stay.
“Evie, please,” he begged and I almost gave him another chance until I heard what he said. “It was Stella’s fault, she tempted me.”
I turned to face him and pulled my hand from his.
“You asshole,” I shouted, “Man up! Stop putting the blame on everyone around you just because you can’t handle your shit.”
“Really, Evie? Are you saying this is all my fault when you won’t even have sex with me?!”
“I was saving it after our marriage you jackass!” How can he even bring that up when he always tells me that he understood? Was I really that blind not to see who he really is?
“Who the hell does that?!” He shouted back.
“This conversation isn’t going anywhere,” I said finally giving up. I can’t believe I wasted so much time and effort to be with him., “Don’t ever show your face at my house and at the company I work at or I’ll make your life a living hell.”
“Evie,” Stephen pleaded.
“Go home Stephen,” I replied tiredly. “Go home to your wife.”
I didn’t wait for him to respond and just left him there. I was almost at my front door when my phone rang.
“Miss Anderson?” A man's voice asked.
“Yes, who’s this?” I asked.
“This is Carl,” he replied. “The CEO’s driver and bodyguard.”
“Carl?” I asked.
“I was the guy who came by to stop the commotion earlier at the office,” he replied.
“Oh,” that guy’s name was Carl. “What can I do for you?”
“I will send one of our CEO’s other drivers, he needs some materials for tomorrow's meeting but I can’t bring them to him, and no one else other than me and those that he allows could go inside his house. Since you are the new EA can you bring those documents to him, please? I will make sure that you will be paid handsomely for this trouble.”
I looked at the time and watched as my grandmother’s light turned off signaling that she was about to sleep.
“Okay,” I replied as the beating of my heart sped up. “How soon will the driver come?”
“10 minutes,” Carl replied. “I will call you again once the car is outside of your house.”
“You know where I live?” I asked, alarmed making Carl chuckle.
“Of course,” he replied, “It’s on your File.” How can I forget who I was working for?
At exactly 10 minutes the car Carl said was outside. It was the first time I cleaned the dishes, took a shower, and changed clothes that fast.
Once inside, as Carl instructed, I signed a non-disclosure agreement that surprised me but did not complain.
Our CEO’s house was on the richest subdivision in the country and was on top of the hill. I was surprised that he lives in a subdivision instead of a penthouse suite but who am I to judge?
The driver stopped in front of the gate but didn’t go inside. I pressed the doorbell and the gate unlocked. The front door was also unlocked and then I found the box in which Carl asked me to leave the NDA folder.
Carl specifically instructed that I go to the second floor of the house and deliver the document to no one else but our CEO. Just then, I realized that I didn’t even know our CEO’s name.
I remember the article I read about the company but all it stated was the main chairman of the company, Mrs. Alicia Stevenson. The CEO was never mentioned. Maybe the CEO was just appointed?
As I reached the second room, I found that all the doors were closed except for the one at the end of the doorway.
“Hello?” I called out, as I approached the slightly opened door.
“Is anyone home?” I called again before I opened the door wider. I froze at the scene before me. The envelope in my hand fell on the floor as my eyes fell on the naked man who was standing with his back to me while a naked woman was on his bed.
The man slowly turned and I thought that seeing a naked man standing in front of me was the most surprising thing to see, I never thought that knowing who the naked man was would surprise me more.
“Hello, Evelyn,” He said with a smile on his face as he stood naked in front of me.
“Glad to see you again,” he added.
I took a deep breath as I realized how my small world became smaller after finding out who was my boss.
-Eve-“Hello, Evelyn,” Vincent freaking Beckett said with a smirk on his face.“Fancy seeing you again,” he added.I froze from where I stood as I looked at Vincent as he walked naked toward the girl on the bed. “You,” he said in a harsh tone, “Leave.”I was surprised at the way he spoke but didn’t dare make any sound. I can see the look on the woman’s face as she looked at me and I can tell that I interrupted something that shouldn’t be disturbed. I heard her stump away but didn’t look in her direction, afraid of what I would see.“Do you have it?” I heard Vincent say, making me confused at first but then realized who the hell he was.“Yes,” I replied as I placed the envelope on the couch near me. “I’m not going to eat you, Eve,” he said. “Bring the file to me,” he added.I picked up the envelope and the sigh that escaped my lips made him laugh. I walked towards him thinking over and over again how I ended up getting in this situation. And then I remember debt and jail and that w
-Eve-Out of the worst thing I imagine I found myself in this I would rate this experience as my worst. How can I not? I’m stuck here cleaning for my naked boss who turned out to be the biggest playboy at school, Vincent Beckett! But all of my bad luck started the moment that my douche ex-boyfriend decided to marry my whore of an ex-best friend. After that, everything in my life just started to go wrong. Still, I can’t believe that I would be in Vincent Beckett’s room cleaning after his mess because the asshole was a clean freak. If he was a clean freak why the hell create this kind of mess? I mean how can you even call the aftermath of your love making a mess? And how could he send his girlfriend out like that? I feel sorry for the girl, but it’s her fault that she fell in love with an asshole.I sighed as I continued to vacuum the carpet, everything was going smoothly until I reached the side of the bed. “What the hell is this?” I asked as I pulled something only to find a lacey s
-Eve-One thing I hate more than my asshole boyfriend is to be indebted to someone, especially if that someone is my greatest rival, Vincent Beckett. But it seems as though my debt with him just keeps on piling up and knowing that scares me.I mean, I never hated him for being one of my toughest rivals. In fact, I enjoy it. I enjoyed seeing his face whenever the top of our school was released. But lately, seeing his face is one of the things I have begun to hate. Every time we see each other he always sees me at my most vulnerable and my most embarrassing moment. It’s like my world is falling apart and I can't do anything but watch it. And to make it worse, Vincent was right there sitting in the front row watching how my world crumbles. I may be smart, but lately, it makes me feel like I am the dumbest girl in the world because I fell in love with an asshole. “You can drop me at the bus stop,” I said softly as I pointed ahead. “Why?” Vincent asks, but I don’t dare look at him. “I
-Eve-“Because you’re my girlfriend.” I couldn’t believe what I just heard. “What are you talking about?” I asked still in disbelief.“Just like you said to that guy earlier,” Vincent said with a smirk, teasing me more. “I am your boyfriend.” “No!” I said almost shouting, “I-I just said it because I-I need him to stop.”“Evelyn,” he called, as he placed a finger under my chin, lifting my face so that I looked straight into his eyes. “W-what?” I asked avoiding eye contact, afraid that he would see something he wasn’t supposed to.“Evelyn,” I don’t understand why he keeps calling me by my first name and not my nickname. But there was something in the way he mentioned my name that way that makes my heart race. “Let’s discuss more about this during dinner,” he said, “and I don’t really take no for an answer, Evelyn,” he added, leaving me with no room to deny his request. “O-okay,” I stuttered. I hate the way he makes me feel powerless around him. It didn’t used to be this way. It was
-Eve--Eve-Vincent was out the whole morning and I couldn’t be more happier.“So what do you think of being an Executive Assistant?” Natalie asked all of a sudden, breaking the silence. “I kinda enjoyed it,” I admitted smiling. Aside from the pressure of working for Vincent, the job was pretty easy for me. At first, I was really afraid that I wouldn’t be able to do my job and get fired leaving me with so much debt, but it wasn’t hard at all. However, I know that it was because I had Natalie with me. “I’m glad you are enjoying it,” Natalie replied. “I know that you are not really working full-time right now but I really hope that you can continue doing part-time even when school starts again.” I looked at her in surprise. I almost forgot about school. I guess it was because my plans had changed. Initially, the plan was that Stephen and I would be married and I would stay at home for the first two years of our marriage to build our family. Stephen was ahead of me and had already ta
-Vincent-There are other places I would rather be than here. But being the heir of the Dreamweaver Corporation I have no choice but to endure this meeting. Actually, there is no problem with the meeting. You can make me go to every meeting there is, and I assure you that it will all go according to plan—everything except this one. Because a meeting that my grandmother has set up is something that never goes according to my plan. Don’t get me wrong, I love my grandmother. But I hate how she rushes me into marriage even though I told her several times already that it’s not for me.“Alright,” my Grandmother said as she looked at each of us. “That sums up our monthly meeting. Thank you all for coming and keep up the good work.”I hurriedly collected my things and rushed to the door, with no goodbyes, no hugs, and no kisses. Because those things just trap me.“Vincent,” my grandmother called out when I was just one step out of the room. I debated to just pretend that I didn’t hear her
-Eve-I am not sure what the hell was going on inside Vincent’s head. I know that he had saved me several times and I have to admit that I was the first one who pretended that he was my boyfriend but doing it for a long time is not my thing. Although I can’t say that I wasn’t tempted by his monetary offer. I don’t even know why he asked me when he could just ask any other girls. I know that they will be so willing to do it and they would even do it for free.“Why?” Vincent asked confusion filling his face.“I don’t know how to lie,” I lied. Seriously? I berated myself. I keep telling myself that I am not a liar even though it surprises me that I find myself lying almost all the time. I watched as Vincent’s brow rose, disbelieving me. “Okay,” I said as I raised both my hands. “I know I have lied several times but those are just white lies. What you’re asking of me is a long-term thing and I can’t do that. Not to mention that we need to fool your grandmother. Trust me, I am not a goo
-Vincent-I was in the meeting when Natalie called and told me about what happened to Evelyn’s grandmother. It was a good thing that I asked Carl to go back to the office to pick up some things that I needed for the next meeting. But once Carl gave me an update and her hunch as to what had happened to Evelyn’s grandmother, I decided to reschedule my meeting and let Carl focus on assisting Evelyn. “The doctors advised to keep Miss Anderson’s grandmother for the night to make sure that they didn’t miss anything,” Carl reported. I was glad that Evelyn’s grandmother was fine and that it was nothing serious, but what concerned me was what Carl found out. It seems that Evelyn’s grandmother was scammed. “Make sure to find out what exactly happened,” I told Carl, and I even asked him to make sure that everything that Evelyn and her grandmother needed had been taken care of. My phone rang as soon as I hung up with Carl, I immediately answered thinking it was Evelyn only to be disappointed
-Vincent-“What do you mean, Uncle?” I asked my grandmother, I know I had one. But I never knew he was alive. My grandmother rarely talks about him and when she does, she makes it sound like he no longer exists. “He’s your father’s brother. I kept him as far away as I could so he wouldn’t cause any problems. But I guess, he found someone who could give him the access to come back.”I know that there was no use pointing fingers or finding out why I didn’t know that the said Uncle existed until now. All that matters now is finding where Evelyn was. Time is of the essence, afraid of what might happen if we don’t get there on time. “I know where she is,” Tony said interrupting my dangerous thought. “It was a good thing they didn’t remove her bracelet. “Where is she,” my grandmother and I said at the same time. Tony showed us the red dot on his laptop that kept on blinking. I was not familiar with the area but it seemed as though my grandmother knew where it was exactly. “Stay here,”
-Vincent-A lot of things could change in just one second. And I believe that’s where the saying, “Live your life to the fullest” came from. It was a reminder that nothing was permanent and everything that you have now could be gone by the next. Evelyn was just right there in my passenger seat a while ago. I don’t believe that I was gone for a long time. But here I am staring at her empty seat.I froze, unable to comprehend what exactly happened. Alyana and Brie stood beside me, telling me that everything would be okay, while Tony got to work. After seeing my dashcam recording, Tony decided that this was not something he could handle alone and called for backup. As we sat for more than ten minutes in this uninviting lobby, I began to feel unsettled. “How long do we have to wait?” I asked for the tenth time since the secretary led us into this conference room. “For as long as it takes to figure out exactly who kidnapped your girlfriend. The reason why they did it, and to find out
-Eve-Things happened so fast that I didn’t have the chance to be scared or react. A black van came by the moment I was out of the car. Several men in black masks came out and pushed me inside the van and all of them were armed. Once inside one of them covered my head with a black cloth back, another tying my hands together, while another tied my feet. I didn’t have the chance to scream, nor did I have any chance to analyze or fight back. I was powerless. All I remember was that the man I thought was an old homeless guy was not homeless. I was surrounded by blackness. No one was talking, no one gave me a hint of what was happening or where they were taking me. I don’t even know any reason why would someone do this to me. First, I don’t have any money if they think that kidnapping me would make them reach. Second, I don’t remember doing anything bad to other people who could hate me so much that they resorted to kidnapping me. Third, I don’t remember having any enemies. Well, exc
-Eve-Brie and Alyana stayed with me making my grandmother happy and at ease that I was okay and I had people other than her to rely on. She was so happy that she cooked like there was an occasion and we ended up with a lot of food. To make sure that nothing goes to waste, Brie packed some of the dishes, with my grandmother’s approval, and gave them to Tony and her security. I was glad to know that she didn’t see Vincent when she and Alyana delivered the dishes.A lot of things had happened in just a span of twenty-four hours with me and Ems, whom I found out was actually Emmet’s sister, in the hospital. I don’t really know what exactly happened and no one is telling me anything at all. Vincent said that it was for my own health and what the doctor had advised. They said that I had a special kind of amnesia that was caused by a trauma. The doctor advised that this was just temporary and everything would all come back to me. Vincent had been very supportive and very patient about i
-Vincent-I left Emmet and Garrett in the room that Ems was staying in and returned to where Evelyn was. I found her listening to whatever Brie was saying. I decided to take the couch in silence and let her enjoy her friend's company. It was a good thing that her grandmother had already met me and knew who I was she didn’t panic when I told her that Evelyn was rushed to the hospital and would be discharged later. She asked how Evelyn was, I didn’t really want to lie nor did I want her to worry so I told her that she was fine and was with Brie and Alyana. We didn’t really talk for too long, but she made me promise that I bring her home. “Vincent,” I heard Evelyn calling me just right before I could even take a seat. When I looked in their direction, the three girls were looking at me. I walked straight at her and she leaned in when I was near the bed.“Something wrong?” I asked worried as I looked at Brie and Alyana for answers.“Why am I here?” She asked, “I kept racking my brains
-Vincent-“If we want to give him to suffer, then the heaviest sentence is what he needs,” Emmet’s lawyer explained as we looked into what kind of case we could file to make sure that we could keep Ems and Evelyn safe. “Also, with just Ems’s medical records, it’s enough to qualify it for divorce,” he added. “But without Evelyn’s testimony, and unfortunately, we could possibly get up to 10 years depending on the residing judge or jury.” “I want him gone,” Emmet’s voice was as cold as ice but he kept his calm. I am not sure that I could keep my calm if this happened to Evelyn. “We know that the law doesn’t work that way,” the lawyer said. “And we also know that the Bushes have a lot of connections and you know what I mean when I say that. There is a possibility that they contact those connections that would make everything a bit complicated.” “God!” The fury and frustration that he feels reflects on all of us. “If I can’t get him behind bars for a long time right now please go for t
-Eve-The sun was shining brightly when I opened my eyes. My body aches, my headaches, and my body feels so heavy. I looked around me and I was surrounded by white walls, machines beeping, and the smell of antiseptic. Where am I?Just thinking about where I am made my head throb painfully.“Hey, Eve,” A cheerful voice I know so well greeted me. I turned to face the voice and found Garrett’s smiling face. I tried to give him a smile but failed miserably as the throbbing in my head continued. “Does your head hurt?” The concern in his voice reflected on his face. I closed my eyes as I nodded. “Let me get a nurse for you,” he replied, “Vincent,” I heard him say, followed by muffled voices before I heard the door open and then closed. “Hey, baby,” Vincent said as he approached. This was the first time I saw him this disheveled. His hair was all over the place with shadow under his eyes. “How are you?” He asked. He took my hand in his hand and sat on the couch beside the bed.“My hea
-Eve/Vincent-*Eve*No! I screamed but there was no sound. I watch the scene unfold before me, this can’t be real. This can’t be happening again. No! Ems husband didn’t even stir but I know that I need to get to her. I need to stop Hector from hurting Ems again. No, I will not let him hurt Ems again.I rushed towards Ems's side only to find that there was an invisible wall standing between us and just like before, I couldn’t stop it. I can’t reach her. No, No, No!I said shaking my head as if it would make a difference. As if my screams were loud enough to be heard. But that didn’t stop me because this time around. I will not make the same mistake that I did. I will not be a coward again. It was as if my silent prayer was heard and the invisible wall started to have cracks, so I kept hitting it until my hand bled. I continued screaming until my voice could be heard. Ems husband turned. His attention was not on me and I brace myself as he stomps towards me. I fought with him but
-Vincent-I was out in the corridor waiting for the doctors to finish their examination on Evelyn. Nothing bad happened to her physically but still, she was shaken up by what she had witnessed.Seeing her the way she was earlier made me want to crush Hector but she beat me to it.I have to admit that it was one of my proudest moments. However, seeing her shaken up the way she did was something I would never want to see again. “Vincent!” I heard Brie call out, but Emmet was already standing in front of me before she could even reach me. “Where is my sister?” The anger from his voice vibrated all over my body. “What the hell happened?” I looked past him and spoke to Brie and Alyana instead of answering Emmet. “Evelyn is here,” I said pointing at the door on my right. “The doctors are checking up on her right now. Would you both be so kind as to stay here until the doctor got out and then stay by her side until I return?” Brie and Alyana nodded. “Tony?” I asked and knew he had no
