Tatiana

I looked at the clock for the fifth time. Where was McKenna?

She had told me she was going to stop by Hunter's house earlier, but what was taking her so long? The unease in my stomach grew with each passing minute.

It was bad enough that I had to deal with her hanging around Hunter, always on the edge of getting taken advantage of or sucked into his lavish lifestyle. Now, on top of all that, I had to sit here and worry about her all day? My frustration and concern made it hard to focus on anything else, even my work.

And that kid, Dustin, was his name? He was like the miniature version of Hunter. If McKenna was there all the time, that meant she would be around that boy, too. I couldn't shake the image of McKenna falling into the same old patterns, making the same mistakes as I did with Hunter.

But she was stubborn. She wouldn't listen to me even if I asked her to visit Hunter less. And now that he turned out to be her father, it will be impossible to keep her away from him.

HunterI wasn't sure if it was a good idea to let McKenna hang out with Dustin by herself, but she was already gone. Besides, it's not like I can suddenly start acting like a strict father to the daughter I just met. She was an adult, and I had no right to tell her what to do.Dustin wasn't a bad guy, far from it. He had his problems, but what young men didn't? In fact, he had a better head on his shoulder than I did when I was his age and I bet Tatiana would agree with that fact.I grinned as Tatiana's face floated in my mind. I wonder if she was furious now that McKenna was coming to my house on a regular basis. It was strange having a daughter I barely knew suddenly became a part of my life. I never imagined myself in this position, and the responsibility weighed on me more than I cared to admit.I shook my head. No, it was best if I took a step back and let McKenna figure things out for herself. Instead of worrying about her personal choices, maybe it was better to focus on somet

Tatiana My eyes widened in shock as I witnessed Frederick's clenched fist make contact with Hunter's face. The sound of skin on skin echoed through the room, a sickening thud that made my stomach turn. Without hesitation, I threw myself between them, feeling the tension and aggression radiating from both men. With all my strength, I pushed against Frederick's chest, trying to hold him back from hitting Hunter again. My heart raced as I tried to diffuse the situation before it escalated even further. "Stop it!" I pleaded again. Hunter regained his balance and touched his bruising eye with a wince on his face. "You will regret this, asshole," he hissed. "Frederick!" I shouted. "What is the matter with you!?" "I hate him," Frederick mumbled again, shaking his head. "That's not a good reason to hit him," I said and released him. I turned to Hunter, who was standing straight, watching me interact with Frederick with a calm expression on his face. His eyes bore into me, and I fel

HunterAs I made my way into the Lab, a strange sensation tickled my senses. Dustin and McKenna were acting peculiar, their faces flushing with guilt as if they had just been caught stealing cookies from the cookie jar. But in this case, the culprit was likely some weird science experiment gone wrong.Or was it something entirely different?"What's going on here?" I asked, narrowing my eyes."Nothing!" they replied in unison.Their synchronized response only heightened my suspicion. Dustin exchanged a quick glance with McKenna, and they both attempted to suppress mischievous grins. It was clear they were hiding something, and my curiosity intensified."Nothing? I don't buy it. What's the big secret?" I insisted, crossing my arms over my chest."We were not doing anything wrong," McKenna quickly replied.Right...My gaze softened as I looked at her. Her cheeks were red and it seemed like McKenna wanted out of this situation, and fast. With a deep exhale, I gave in and decided not to gi

Hunter McKenna and I stepped out of the shop, our hands full of bags. The city was alive with energy, a far cry from the quiet of my rural upbringing. I felt a bit adventurous living here now. "What movie should we watch?" She asked. "Whatever you want. You choose," I replied. "How about a horror movie?" McKenna chirped. I raised an eyebrow. "You like scary movies?" "I love them!" she replied enthusiastically. "Unless you don't like them. Then we can watch something else." I grinned. "Actually, I enjoy them quite a bit. Your mother and I used to have a horror movie marathon every Halloween," I said, smiling at the memory. McKenna smiled at me. "Okay then let's go. I am excited!" We walked to the nearest theater, chatting about nothing in particular but enjoying each other's company. Once inside, we found seats near the back and settled in as the lights dimmed and the movie began. ~-~ "Seriously, who would do that?" I whispered at some point, rolling my eyes at a particularly

TatianaThe audacity of this man!I couldn't stop thinking about Hunter since he left me standing at the front door, feeling stupid. Who did he think he was, trying to flirt with me? I've made my decision, and I made it years ago. He was only messing with me because he thought that he still had a shot. He didn't deserve a second of my time, even if he was McKenna's father.Irritation fluttered in my stomach. Acting casually was all well and good, but don't expect me to joke around with him again like I did before!"Mom?"I looked at McKenna. "Yes, Sweetheart?""Are you okay?" she asked."Yeah. Why do you ask?" I looked at her."Hunter left five minutes ago. Why are you still standing there," McKenna said, raising her brow.I quickly produced a smile. "Oh, no reason."McKenna sighed. "You weren't rude to him, were you? I wish you'd try to be nice to him for my sake, Mom. He had been kind to me, and we really had a nice day together."I narrowed my eyes. "Oh, yeah? HunterI couldn't believe Tatiana had actually agreed to have dinner with me. I was sure I would have to fight her for it. I couldn't help but feel excited about our future meeting. Yes, every time we were in close proximity to each other, we argued, but that was part of the thrill. My mind was tangled in a web of conflicting emotions. The idea of us peacefully sharing a meal seemed like an unlikely scenario.I had been bracing myself for a battle all day, mentally preparing for the usual verbal sparring. I could hardly wait for it."You seemed to be in a good mood," Dustin commented, raising an eyebrow."I am always in a good mood," I declared."Yeah, not really. And why are you all dressed up?" he asked, eyeing me."No reason," I said and tried to act nonchalant. "And I am not really dressed up." The words sounded dismissive, but the truth was, I had put more thought into my outfit than I cared to admit."Uh-ha..." Dustin said and smirked."Aren't you supposed to visit your mother

Tatiana What's happening? Why can't I resist him? Hunter had his arms wrapped around my waist as he kissed me. His lips were so soft, like velvet, as they moved with mine. Sparks of electricity ran through my body, and I felt drawn to him, unable to pull away. Hunter's scent filled the air around us, a mixture of minty cologne and something else intoxicatingly masculine that made me faint with desire. The memories of our several steamy nights came flooding back. This was not good. This was a disaster. My heart raced as his hands explored my body, gliding over every curve in a way that sent shivers down my spine and butterflies fluttering in the pit of my stomach. He pulled back just enough for our eyes to meet. There was an intensity there that scared yet excited me at the same time- it felt like he could see into my very soul without saying anything at all. "That's right, you should be sorry about this. How dare you kiss me?" I breathed. "You aren't pushing me away," he said.

TatianaIn the dimly lit dorm room, I stood nervously in front of my closet. I stared at the half-finished dress hanging on the door. The fabric was a rich red color, flowing and elegant, with intricate gold embroidery along the hem and sleeves.I haven't shown it to anyone yet, but I thought it was my best work. For some reason, I felt like showing it to Hunter. We have been dating for over a month now, and I figured it was time I shared my work with him. I wanted Hunter's opinion before I called it done.Hunter was waiting for me in the living room area. I hadn't told him why I had called him here yet, so I took a deep breath and went to meet him."Well? What's the big emergency?" Hunter asked.I looked at him, biting my lip as he stared at me. My parents are from here in New York," I said.Evelyn raised an eyebrow, as if expecting more."That's...interesting," she responded, her tone not quite matching the word. "What do your parents do?""Both of my parents are teachers," I answered, hoping to add a bit more substance to my background.Evelyn's lips formed a tight line, and she leaned back in her chair. "Teachers, huh? They are quite underpaid, aren't they?" Evelyn said."Yes, but they love what they do," I said defensively.Hunter shot me a supportive look, but Evelyn continued, undeterred. I don't think he is good for you," Frederick said."And how would you know that, Fred?" I asked, feeling annoyed. Frederick and I grew up together, and sometimes he acted like he knew everything about me and knew all my needs, but it was starting to get old. It felt like he was overstepping boundaries, thinking he had the authority to dictate who was good for me and who wasn't."He's just not the right fit for you, Tati. I can see it," Frederick replied, a hint of concern in his eyes.I sighed, running a hand through my hair. "Fred, you're not my guardian. I appreciate your concern, but I can make my own decisions. My words came out in a rush as I tried to explain myself. "I swear I'm not some kind of psycho. I just..."Interrupting me, Tatiana spoke up firmly. "Hunter, you don't have to explain anything to me. Hunter saluted and rushed back to the couch.I shook my head and searched for a bowl in the cabinets. Then with the bowl in hand, I returned to the living room, finding Hunter already seated on the couch, looking both amused and hungry."Here you go," I said, handing him the bowl."Ah, the heroine returns with the healing potion," he teased, taking the bowl with a grin.I rolled my eyes. TatianaI don't know why I was kissing him after I resisted him so much, but I didn't feel any regret doing it. As I pulled away from the kiss, I couldn't help but smile at the irony of the situation. Here we were, in a hospital room, surrounded by medical equipment, and we were sharing a tender moment that made the whole environment seem like a dream. But the reality of the situation was far from ideal. Hunter wasn't a hundred percent better, and his recovery was far from guaranteed. He was weak, and I could see the pain in his eyes, even when he wasn't in physical discomfort."I am already regretting kissing you," I whispered, my voice low and barely audible.Hunter smiled with his eyes. "You are lying," he managed to utter. And despite the gravity of the situation, I couldn't help but feel a warmth in my chest as I looked at him.We sat in silence for a while, holding hands."Should I call your mom?" My family isn't like yours. They are simple and could barely afford to send me to the university," she said."Are you suggesting everything was handed to me? Should I feel ashamed of that?" I asked.Tatiana shook her head. "I am not saying that. I am just saying we are not a good match, so this was a mistake."I sighed, feeling frustrated and confused.
