While at school, Leon waited anxiously for his mother, who was supposed to pick him up. Coco had stayed with him for an hour trying to keep him company before leaving due to Sabrina’s relentless calls. Leon had reassured Coco, saying, “You go. Mommy will come soon.”

But as the hours ticked by, his calmness started to disappear.. What was supposed to be a short wait turned into an a long one. One hour stretched into two, then three, and finally four. His mother still hadn’t arrived. Leon's calls went unanswered and the worry in his chest grew heavier with each passing minute.

In the end, he dialed his father’s number, hoping to find an answer. But the call went straight to voicemail. Panic set inside him and he quickly reached out to his father's assistant who was listed as the emergency contact in case of such situations. He should have called sooner but he just waited for his mother who still had not come back.

“Uncle, where is my daddy?” Leon’s voice filled with concern.

A few moments later, the psychologist emerged from Anne’s room. He scanned the faces in the hallway before asking, “Who is the patient’s family?”Everyone instinctively stepped forward. Nicholas who was holding Leon close, said, “I’m her husband. Nicholas Hart.”The psychologist nodded, signaling for Nicholas to step aside for a private conversation.“Mr. Hart,” the psychologist began, “Your wife’s condition is more concerning than it may appear. Although she insists that she’s not stressed, it's clear she’s unaware of the extent of her stress. She’s not only dealing with overwhelming stress but also trauma. It seems that she is been trying to avoid by keeping herself constantly busy.”Nicholas felt a cold wave of dread wash over him as he listened. “What do you mean by trauma?”The psychologist continued, “It seems that she has been using various activities as a way to distract herself from her deeper issues. She is trying to avoid addressing the root of her problems because she belie

The nanny who had sensed the gravity of the situation, gently urged, “Miss Taylor, please call Mrs. Taylor. We cannot calm Miss Charlotte down. She won't tolerate seeing you right now. Only Mrs. Taylor can help her.”Sabrina’s heart sank at the suggestion. The memory of her last encounter with Bella flashed before her eyes. A heated argument that had ended in bitter words and actions. They hadn’t spoken since and the thought of reaching out to Bella now filled her with dread. Yet, for Coco’s sake, Sabrina knew she had no choice. Reluctantly, she picked up the phone and dialled Bella’s number. The call rang several times but Bella didn’t answer. Frustration and anxiety gnawed at Sabrina as she left a voicemail, her voice filled with desperation. “Bella, it’s Sabrina. I need your help. Coco needs you. Please call me back.” She hung up and stared at the phone. There was no reply, no acknowledgement that Bella had even received the message. Desperation mounting, Sabrina made another call

Sabrina’s voice trembling with desperation as she stepped out of Coco’s room and called Nicholas again. “Nicholas, please come. She’ll listen to you. Please, just come,” she begged, tears choking her words. She was ready to put her pride down and beg everyone who could help her daughter. She had never been as scared in her entire life as she was at this moment. But Nicholas’s response was cold even though his pain was evident even through the phone. “No.”“She will die!” Sabrina cried out, her voice filled with terror. “Do you want to see her dead? Please, save my daughter! Please!”Nicholas’s voice was steady but there was a deep and simmering resentment about her that he did not bother to hide. “As a mother, it’s up to you to decide how to save your daughter.”Sabrina’s voice broke as she pleaded, her fear overwhelming her. “Please, she will die…”There was a long pause and then Nicholas spoke laced with bitterness. “I know. Bella’s response was unexpected. “No, Coco. I’m not here to convince you. I’m here to support you.” Coco looked up, surprised and a little confused. “I want you to end your protest but only after you put down your demands,” Bella continued. “Shall I call my lawyer for you to frame an agreement?” Coco blinked, taken aback. “What?” She thought Bella would not understand her feelings like everyone else. They think that she was just a stubborn child throwing a tantrum against her mother. “You’re protesting against Sabrina, right?” Bella asked calmly. Coco hesitated but then nodded. “And where did you get the idea to do this?” Bella inquired, her voice gentler now. She knew that she could not treat Coco like a small child with no reason or rationality. “Gandhi,” Coco explained. “I heard his story from my teacher. He said we can achieve anything through Satyagraha. I’m using his technique. He said with that we can change anyone’s heart. I’m trying to do that.” Bella couldn’t help

Later that evening, Anne returned home from the hospital. She was still a bit weak but determined to get back to her routine. Nicholas hovered around her, trying to mask his worry but Anne could sense something was off.As they settled into bed, Anne turned to him, her eyes searching for something. “Are you hiding something from me?” she asked, her voice gentle but probing.“No,” he responded, a little too quickly, avoiding her gaze.Anne frowned, not convinced. Nicholas was usually open with her and this sudden evasiveness made her uneasy. The next morning, Nicholas remained unusually close, not letting her out of his sight. He even delayed leaving for the office. “Don’t you have to go to the office?” she asked, noticing how he kept finding excuses to stay near her.“No,” he replied, trying to sound casual, but the worry was clear in his eyes. Even though Bella had reassured him that Coco was fine, he couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling gnawing at him. If Anne found out about Coco, he

With a nod that seemed more for herself than for Anne, Sabrina turned and left without another word. The sound of the door closing echoed in the silent hallway, leaving Anne standing there, still clutching the paper but her mind in a haze. She did not understand what just happened. Coco’s small hand tugged gently at her mother while breaking through the fog that had settled over Anne’s thoughts. “Mommy, I’m famished. Can you make me something to eat?” Her voice was so familiar and so full of life that it almost jolted Anne back to reality. However, she was still wondering if it was even reality? Shaking off the shock, Anne allowed Coco to pull her inside. She moved on autopilot and her heart racing as her mind struggled to process what had just happened. How long had it been since she last held Coco in her arms? When was the last time her daughter’s laughter filled the house? It felt like an eternity, a lifetime of yearning and heartache compressed into those agonizing months of sep

“Mommy!” Leon yelled as he dashed into the house with Nicholas hurrying behind him. Without missing a beat, Leon ran straight to the kitchen and wrapped his arms around Anne’s legs. He said like a spoiled son that he was, “Mommy, I missed you all day! Daddy’s no fun anymore.”“Give me a moment, Leon,” Anne said, glancing down as she stirred a pot on the stove. She didn’t want oil splatters to reach him. She added with a frown, “Why are you in the kitchen? Did you wash your hands after being outside? And you are still wearing your shoes! I have told you before, the kitchen needs to be kept clean. We all have weak immune systems and I don’t want any germs coming in here. Go wait in the living room until I’m done.”Leon’s eyes widened as he took in his mother’s stern tone. It was different from her usual coddling self. Lately, she had been indulging him and treating him like he was the center of her universe. Now, he felt like he was being treated just like any other child and it didn’t s

That morning, the baby girl’s condition had been critical, but now, as she looked into those tiny, bright eyes, she felt a wave of relief.“Hey there, sweetheart,” Abella cooed, smiling warmly. “You’re such a fighter. You fought so hard to be here with your mom and dad.”The baby stared up at her, and Abella’s heart melted.“Yes, you’re such a strong, big girl,” she whispered, gently touching the baby’s hand.Outside the NICU, the parents expressed their gratitude; their tearful smiles reminded Abella why she had chosen this path. In moments like these, she was reminded of how beautiful it was to help save these little angels. But there were also the heartbreaking days, the ones where some angels didn’t make it.

She is… well, very touchy and fussy.”Kate shrugged. “MIL, I have a complaint. Coco and Sia had a girls’ day without me! Can you imagine? After her divorce, Abella didn’t leave the country. Cillian had given her a staggering sum in alimony, even going as far as naming half of his assets to her, but she refused to take a single dime. She had her own inheritance. More money than she could ever need. But what could wealth do? It couldn’t buy her happiness. It couldn’t fill the void in her heart.Cillian knew her too well; he didn’t push her to accept anything. He let her go, even when it shattered him. When her mother lived in Italy with Coco and Leon, alongside her uncle Nate, she had bought a beautiful bungalow. It had never been sold, left untouched over the years. When Abella married Cillian, Leon had given her the key to that house as a quiet token of their family’s past. There were two bungalows beside each other, one where her mother had raised her two older siblings, and the other where her father had stayed, the place where her parents had met and reunited. One had been passed down to Charlotte, the other to Leon.

Cillian stared at her, his throat tightening as he heard the finality in her voice. He had imagined this conversation a thousand different ways, but none of them had prepared him for the calm and almost serene acceptance in her eyes.“Abella…” He whispered her name like a prayer, like a plea. “Can we please rethink this?”Abella smiled. It was a soft, bittersweet smile that made his chest ache.“Cillian, there is nothing to rethink,” she said gently. “Alessandro came to see me. He told me that he was leaving the country with his mother. He said he doesn’t want to come between us, that he would be happy if you called him once in a while and only if it was okay with me.” She let out a humorless chuckle. “That’s too big of a burden for me to carry. I mean, I don’t care how you navigate your relationship with your son. But I will give you one piece of advice: don’t be a jerk. Don’t hurt one more person. You have already hurt me, you have hurt him, and you have hurt his mother. Stop making

I’ll work on myself. Just give me a chance.” His hands clenched at his sides as if willing himself not to break apart. “I don’t want to see you like this, so shattered. You mean so fucking much to me. Please.”But to Abella, his words felt like echoes in an empty room. They were hollow and weightless. Once upon a time, she had longed to hear them, had dreamed of a moment where he would look at her like this, beg for her, choose her. But now? Now, they felt unimportant. They meant nothing. She exhaled, rubbing her temple. “I heard you. But my head is splitting apart, Cillian. Can you please just go back to your house? I just w

Madam Facci looked at her son, her expression undecipherable. She had seen Cillian walk through storms without flinching, but today, he stood before her looking utterly wrecked. His usually sharp eyes were bloodshot, his arm wound had reopened, staining his sleeve with fresh blood, yet none of that seemed to matter to him or anyone at this point.“What do you want, Cillian?” she asked, her voice firm but not unkind.“I’m here to see Abella,” he said. His voice was hoarse, almost desperate.Madam Facci crossed her arms. “I’m sure you have no idea what happened last night.”“I know,” he admitted, running a hand through his already disheveled hair. “I just want to explain things to her. She is overthinking this, and there is nothing much to overthink. I just—” He exhaled sharply. “I just want to make everything okay.”A wry smile tugged at Madam Facci’s lips, but there was no amusement in her eyes. “Son,” she said, “we can never tell someone what is worth overthinking or not.
