Ashely’s pov
“What!?”I thundered, as my heart suddenly beings to palpitate as though threating to jump out of my chest. Breathing so fast, I raised my head gradually in surprise, uncertainty and anger and meet his cold stern glare peering directly at me. His words thundered into my ears like distorted sound of frequency, making the environment sound noisy and rowdy despite it being dead silent. I turned my gaze towards my parent expecting them to say something or rather call the cops on the monster standing in front of me but that looked impossible because, they both had more fear and confusion clustered on their faces. The environment is for real, tensed. And all I can think of at the moment is to eliminate the cute monster who is trying to shatter my family, my dreams to pieces. “This has become my battle, and I am going to fight it to the end” I braced up and faced him, but at first glance, I looked like a baby mouse at the feet of a giant elephant. That didn’t have so much effect on me because I was already burning in range and determined to give him his own share of his trouble. I folded my hands into a fist, looked him straight into his cold brown eyes that had my reflection roaming in it. “Hay monster,” I called out without any iota of fear, “I am not going to marry you and you dare not touch my family and everything that has to do with us” I bellowed, with my voice going slightly above normal, Stood firm and looked straight into his eyes waiting for his responds. A spring of confidence and happiness sprouted from my belly and circulated round my body, the moment I stood on my feet without being scared of his physical physique, cold stern glare and his multiple facial expressions. But all of these came to a fall the moment he guffawed at me pathetically. I couldn’t help but accept that I was fighting from a place of defeat, especially for the fact that my parent wasn’t saying anything. Notwithstanding, giving up wasn’t an option. Cladded in uncertainty and fear, I turned my back to meet my parent when he immediately held my wrist dragging me back to himself in a very harsh and mannerlessly way so tight and didn’t leave it until I winched in pain, he looked at me in a very sarcastic manner, let out a wicked smirk and threw a small paper card he got from his back pocket at my face “I don’t have all the time to watch you rattle your little imaginary powers to me. You have just thirty minutes to make your decision. On that card, is my number when you have decided, you call immediately, if the thirty minutes elapses without you getting to me, I would be forced to make my own decisions.” He spoke in a very low, calm and intense voice turned his back and left without showing any sign of human empathy.I watched as his receding figure stunt slowly and calculatedly towards the door. Every steep he took had a toll on me making tears roll down my cheeks uncontrollable. I sat with my head buried in-between my legs on the floor and allowed the truth to beat me to pulp. I searched my mind trying to recall everything that has happened in the past, to know if I offend anyone, or if I had anything to do with him in the past, but I didn’t get an answer as his look and voice sounded foreign to me. I couldn’t tell why his anger was channeled to me, and why he decided to marry me instead of going ahead to take the wealth he wanted to take at least that will make him richer. But then, he wasn’t just going to take the wealth alone, he was going to kill my parent and still make my life a living hell. It was At this point I knew that the only option for me was to marry him leaving all the good stuff I have worked for over the years and suffer torture and humiliation in his house for a crime I don’t know about. I was so engrossed in my thoughts that I didn’t notice that my both parent were standing at my back.“Ashely, you know you don’t have to do this” I had a familiar voice speak in a low-teary tone making me jerk out of my thought. ‘We can take care of ourselves and get things right in due time, all we need from you is to stay save. This town is no longer good for you to live in, because of Nathaniel and his evil deeds. So hurry up now to your grand Ma. Place and stay there till we are able to pull ourselves off this mess we got into with Nathaniel.” My father spoke in a certain and assuring tone.I knew things weren’t alright, and as much as he was trying to sound so confidence and in control of the situation, he still spoke like someone burning with fear and uncertainty,Without uttering a word, I paid keen attention to everything my father had to say, lots of question pooped on my head to ask him. But that wasn’t the best time to do so, as the environment and our heart was heavy in grief and sadness.“Ashely, you have to listen to us and don’t act stubborn now. Nathaniel is evil and would stop at nothing in carrying out his plan, if you go to your grandmas place now, you would be free from his trouble. As a matter of fact there is no much he can do to me and your father, but with you, he would make sure he tortures the living hell out of you until he is satisfied. His anger is transient and would not last forever, when it’s over you would come back. But for now darling, we need you to run as fast as you can.”But for now my darling, we need you to run as fast as you can.” This time my mom spoke in a more audible voice but with agitation adorned on her face. As she spoke, I couldn’t help but wonder why they were both scared of him. The parent I grew up with, thought me to face my fear and not to allow anyone treat me wrongly by always standing my ground, but with everything happening now, I can’t really tell if they are still holding on to their principles or has allowed fear to rule their mind. “Mom… are you guys guilty of the accusation he made earlier? Did you and dad really kill his parent to take away their wealth?” I questioned in a very low tone with my head buried in between my legs. A long pause silenced our conversation making it easy to hear the sound of our breath, every second counted as though it’s was decade. Several thought cladded my mind and slowly I began to question who I really was, I expected my parent to immediately interject, the moment I asked the question but ins
I sat with my hands fixed on my chin as several though pooped on my head making me feel scared and uncertain, Ministers Falcon's voice kept playing a sound that wasn’t pleasing to hear at all which made every second seems as long as an hour. I grew up knowing him as someone who doesn’t go back to his words, and until I find a wife for myself, he would go to whatever extent to make sure I marry his friend’s daughter. “Now that he has spoken about getting married, I would be forced to decide for Ashely myself. And at this point, she would be left with no other choice than to marry me” I muttered as I stretched my hands and grabbed my phone that was lying lifeless by the side of my table. My eyes immediately darted towards the time the moment it turned on. “Wow” I shouted in utmost surprise. She thinks she is smart” I yelled sauntering around my office with a gloomy look and a beating heart. I needed to think of a way to go around this without causing extra trouble and dragging so muc
I said, steams of tears gathered in my eyes making it difficult for me to read accurately the number on the card, my whole body started shaking as though dogged into a big jar of ice, and the environment became tensed as everybody had their heart held on their hand. “F**k that wicked man would be here in a minute. Are you sure you want to do this” she asked as tears rolled down her cheeks. I picked up my phone and stared at the number I was about to punch “Yes Mom” I responded.picked up my phone and punched his number with my heart beating as though in a race, as soon as it rang, he answered but decided to stay mute. I couldn’t bring myself to utter any word as all I thought about was horror. “Why did you call me if you didn’t have anything to say” he bellowed at the other side of the phone making me freeze in fear, my heart was already broken and shattered to pieces, all I knew to do at the moment was cry “you know what, I don’t have all the time to listen to you cry, whatever deci
“You should learn to mind your business and not interfering in other peoples matter. Get ready, the boss has a big punishment for going against his number one rule.” He bellowed in a very harsh tone, without an iota of sympathy in it. I placed my hands on my chest, to feel my heart beats” it’s barely an hour here, and I already have a big punishment to serve.” I heaved out in frustration “what kind of a man dose he even think he is?” I questioned, while fighting the tears that had already gathered in my eyes. After a very long walk, we got to a big brown door without an opening handle. The door looked so big and could be likened to the gate of a city. The entrance to the door, was wide and vast but there was something off about it, unlike where we started walking from, the place looked bleak, isolated and dissolute. That added an extra confusion to my already confused state. I still couldn’t tell where I was “his office, his home, a factory, where exactly am I?” I inquired out of cur
I was already getting tired and annoyed, not only was Nathaniel crazy, cold and heartless all his staffs too exude those quality. It had been close to an hour already, and he hadn’t even made any attempt to show up or ask that I come in. “who the hell does he exactly think he is” I snorted, placing my hands on the door to knock. “If I do this for the next ten minutes, without getting any responds, I would…” I burst into a loud cry as the situation looked hopeless, because there is no much I can do rather than to wrap my arms around my body and cry my eyes out of its socket. NAT POV I stood by my window with a binocular observing the environment while waiting for her arrival. Several uncertain thought cladded my mind which made me a bit worried and restless. I couldn’t tell why I kept worrying about her, not that she is special or extremely beautiful, but there is something that just makes me worried without cost. All my life I have hated the sight of women, I see them as confused sex
“I did prefer that you mind your business and head back to work” I hollered stopping her at the spot. I threw my gaze back to the surveillance monitor to watch Ashely who at this time was already knocking on the door, I smirked seeing how hopeless and frustrated she looked nothing gave me joy at them moment more than the expressions that was clustered on Ashely’s face. Clara at the other hand kept stealing glances at me, as though she didn’t believe what I said. “Get the guards ready, I would be leaving for my uncle’s house in a minute.” I said to Clara who still had confusion clustered on her face. ASHELY POVThe tall brown door was soon pushed open, coming out were a bunch of tall, huge, scary looking guys all on black and their faces covered in Mask. “This must be the monster. Finally, he decided to come out” I snorted with my gaze fixed on door. I gasped out in fear the moment my eyes meet with his cold stare, I immediately felt tensed, and the environment suddenly became so hot
Turing back wasn’t an option as it would only make thing worst for me and my family. If I had the chance to choose again, I would rather not marry him than live in misery for the rest of my life. The drive to the last floor was a bit long, and very quiet so much that even a pin would cause a thunderous sound when it’s hit the floor. The elevator soon stopped and we came out, the other men on black were down and in their rightful position before we got there. The moment we came out, all the workers stopped what they were doing, and bowed to him. It felt really strange and new to me “Is he regarded as a god here?” I grilled while still trying to calm my nerves. I became nervous the moment we got out of the elevator because he still held firm to my hands and everybody who passed by saw me, I could hear little murmurs from the people behind, and I didn’t need a prophet to tell me that I was the reason for the murmur. As soon as we left the building, several black tinted cars were aligned a
In no time, we got to the invisible door, and the image of Ashely trying to get the wall to open earlier cracked me up I almost burst into a loud laughter, but held myself in order to maintain the tensed atmosphere. The wall opened and we got into my personal elevator, I looked at Ashely, who looked carried away by her thought I immediately thought of something to do or say to her that would bring her back to the environment when an idea popped into my mind. “You should enjoy your ride today, because this would be the last time I would grant you access to my personal elevator” I said to her in a whisper directly in her ears. She jerked up in shock and started looking around, I could tell that she was trying to confirm if Clara and Felix at the front heard me. I chuckled inside my mouth and pretended as though I didn’t say and notice anything. In a short time, we got to the last floor. It’s a culture in my organization for everybody to bow leaving whatever they are doing the moment the
