Later that night, Harriet tossed and turned on her lonely bed. It was already 1am but, she couldn’t get herself to sleep no matter how hard she tried. Whenever she closed her eyes, all she could hear was Damien accusing her of cheating with none other than Adrian and also asking for a divorce.
Her eyes were red and swollen from crying throughout the whole day. She needed comfort from someone because her heart felt like it would explode but, her husband wasn’t home. After leaving in the afternoon, he never returned home and Harriet knew that he was spending the night at Evelyn’s place. She wasn’t surprised. This was a regular occurrence. The next morning as Harriet sat at the breakfast table…alone as always, a strange thought came to her, one that gave her a tiny last hope. She wanted to fight for her marriage for the last time. She thought that he must be too angry to process everything and she wanted to explain with a last-ditch effort to try and save their marriage. She needed to see him. A few minutes later, she arrived in front of his twenty-story building company and a heavy sigh left her lips. “You can do this, Harriet. He’ll understand.” She said and went into the company. Everyone immediately recognized her as Damien’s wife and greeted her accordingly. “Good morning, Mrs Daniels.” Damien’s secretary greeted with a terrified look on his face. “I want to see my husband. Please, tell him I am here.” She said with a brief smile and the man scratched the back of his head nervously, looking for a lie to tell her. “M…mr Damien isn’t seated. He’s in a meeting and won’t be out in a few minutes.” He said and Harriet immediately sensed that he was lying. So, she walked past him and headed for Damien’s office.’ Harriet didn’t need to go in to see what was taking Damien’s time as the door to his office was left slightly open. She peeped in and saw Evelyn James, seated on his lap while he hugged her….passionately. The scene brought fresh tears so Harriet’s eyes and a fresh pain to her chest. She always knew of Evelyn’s existence. They had a history. Evelyn was Damien’s girlfriend while studying. He had feelings for her but Harriet thought that it was just in the past. Damien surely kept a distance from her. Harriet thought their marriage was the beginning of their happily ever after but that it seemed like wishful thinking only on her part. She wanted to confront them, blaming his disloyalty, questioning if the picture was something they made up to make their love pure and innocent. But was it necessary? Who was she kidding? She was wrong from the very first beginning. She couldn’t just make someone love her and she shouldn’t expect he would love her and she shouldn’t expect that he would love her all of a sudden one day. The unloved one was the loser in this drama. Maybe she was the one getting in the way of Damien and Evelyn’s happily ever after, and she was the villain in their fairytale. Harriet felt as if she was awakened from a dream. She had never thought so clearly than ever. Deep inside, there was still a piece of her that couldn’t let go. She loved Damien for years, how could she give up easily? As much as she didn’t want to admit, she couldn’t lie that Damien looked happy and at peace. There was a genuine smile on his face and his eyes glowed as he stared at Evelyn. He had never been this gentle or soft with her. He never looked at her with love or even care. It was now as clear as day to Harriet. The man was in love. Not being able to stand the scene before her, Harriet took to her heels and ran out of the office, holding in her tears to avoid suspicions from the other workers. “Why can’t he just love me? It’ll be so much easier.” Harriet said in pain as she sat in her car. Tears filled her eyes and slid down her cheeks, in spite of efforts to the contrary. “I guess this it. He’ll never love me.” She calmed down, forcing herself but could only with a bitter smile. Harriet stared unseeing at the divorce paper while the pregnancy results laid quietly in the trash can.Final Chapter… Before Louis could utter another word to plead with her, the sounds of sirens were heard, signifying that the police had arrived. “You bitch! You already called the police!” He screamed and angrily pulled out a gun from his pocket and pointed at Lily causing Rachael to scream. “You think I wouldn’t come here prepared?” He asked and laughed maniacally. “I knew that I couldn’t trust this doctor and guess what, I was right!” He said, moving the gun from Lily to Tony. “How dare you try to trick me?!” He yelled at Tony who now had his hands up in surrender. “Put the gun down and we can talk, Louis. Put it down.” Tony said calmly, slowly moving towards Lily. “Stop right there!” Louis screamed and cocked the gun, scaring everyone in the room. “I told you, Lily. I told you that nothing can separate us. If I die, you die. We go down together, Lily. Do you hear me?!” He said, grinning eerily. “Please, stop. Please, Louis. You need to stop!” Lily cried, rubbing her hands to
“It's Louis. He just arrived at the house. Come on, Lily. You'll finally get that apology.” Tony said and grabbed her hand. “I’ll take him to the guest quarters first and then, you can come in ten minutes later.” He said and kissed her lips before leaving the house. “Oh my God,” Lily exclaimed as soon as he left. Her palms were sweaty and her heart was racing. After so many weeks, she was going to see Louis and it was possibly going to be the last time. “I can't believe this is happening.” She beamed, pacing. Tony, on the other hand, had met up with Louis who was waiting at the front door and was now leading him to the guest house. When they arrived, Louis sighed in relief as he saw the luxurious room that had been prepared for him to stay until he was able to leave the country by sea. “Thank you so much for this, Tony. I swear I won't cause you any trouble until I leave. You won't even know I’m here.” He thanked, breathing like he had just completed a marathon. Tony nodded and
Louis noticed that a few minutes after his call, the policemen behind him slowed down and turned around, abandoning their chase. A sigh of relief left his lips and he finally stopped his car. It was obvious that Tony had made some calls. He then realized that as long as he stayed loyal to Tony he would be safe. As for Mehdi, he was history and would now be punished by the law.His phone dinged and when he checked, it was a text from Tony.Tony: [Come over to my house. That’s the only safe place for you. You can leave when things settle down. I’d send the address to you but I know you already know that.]He nodded as if Tony was in front of him and hit the accelerator, driving to Tony’s house.**“Lily! Lily!” Rachael screamed from the living room to Lily who was in the kitchen with the chef. “You need to see this!”Lily appeared in no time with an apron around her. She had been trying to distract herself from the fight with Tony by helping the chefs out while Rachael kept herself bus
“You’re being recorded, boss! It's on live stream!” Mehdi’s secretary screamed with a look of horror on his face. Mehdi on the other hand looked like he had just been punched in the face. “It's all over the news. You need to stop!” His secretary yelled. The blood in Mehdiface dried out immediately and the smile on his face vanished. Scrambling around like a madman, he looked for the TV remote and switched on the television. Just as his secretary had said, the first thing Mehdi saw on the news was a video of himself and his secretary staring into his TV which was happening in real-time. That could only mean that they were being recorded by a hidden camera. He looked at the TV one last time, cold sweat breaking out on his forehead. That was when he realized that the hidden camera was in Tony’s direction. When he turned, there was a smirk on Tony’s lips as he watched Mehdi panic, knowing that he had just told the whole world about his crimes.“You…” He growled and launched at Tony, det
“What just happened?” Rachael said as soon as he walked out. She had been eavesdropping on their conversation for a while. Not that you could blame her. They were being extremely loud so she didn’t even have to try. “Not now, Rachael.” He groaned, dragging his feet to the minibar. “Don’t walk away from me, Tony. Not after what just happened!” She scolded, pulling him back by his arms. She stepped in front of him and let out a frustrated sigh, running her hand through her hair. “I swear, you both stress the fuck out of me.” She hissed. “Listen, I don’t care what she did to you, all I know is that she’s not leaving this house. You’re acting rashly because you’re angry. When you calm down, you’re going to hate yourself so, you’re going to take a break in my room and have a long nap while I speak to Lily. When you wake up, you can speak to her again. At least you’ll be a lot calmer then.” She said, rubbing the side of his arms assuringly. Tony groaned but succumbed and walked away, st
After his conversation with Rachael, Tony returned to Lily but she was nowhere to be found. The sound of running water in the bathroom informed him that she was having a shower. He then decided to leave so that she could have some privacy but, as he was about to leave, his phone rang.Looking at the caller, his jaw tightened in anger. It was Louis. After a few rings, he picked up but said nothing, waiting for him to speak.“Tony! I have great news.” He started and Tony hummed, walking out of Lily’s room as he didn’t want her knowing he was involved with Louis.“I just had a meeting with Mehdi.” Tony paused in his tracks and he wondered if he had judged Louis wrongly. Was he really going to tell him about his conversation with Mehdi? If that was the case then, Louis might not be as bad as he thought.“Really? What was it about?” He asked, now in his room. He shut the door and sat at the edge of the bed, listening attentively to Louis.“Well, I managed to get on his good books once aga
