Christopher

I laid on the bed with Cassie’s head on my chest as we both lay naked under the duvet. After a few rounds of hungrily feasting on each other’s bodies, our moans crying out the evidence of the pleasures of such moments, we thought it wise to rest for a while before Cassie takes her leave.

Two reasons Cassie would offer to sleep with me without me inviting were this. Either she was in the mood for some loving and the feeling wasn’t mutual with “her man." Or she needed something badly, and “her man” wasn’t listening to her.

And of course, I never refused such moments. I was only a man. And it’s not entirely my fault; self-control seemed to be what I packed the most. Especially when it comes to matters like this. Either reason worked for me. So long I would also enjoy myself.

But I could tell this impromptu show up was definitely because she must have had an argument with Lachlan and needed some touch to clear her head. Of course, I knew she used me for pure sexual urge sati

Amelia It’s been two weeks, and I was already craving to go out. Ever since Bailey forced me to go shopping with her, I’ve been longing to go out again. Probably take a stroll down the street and just return. I didn’t know why I felt this way. I was supposed to feel reluctant to go out; I mean, after bumping into Nina at the mall, I knew better. Going out now was only going to give Lachlan an edge in finding me. But still, as hard as I tried, I couldn’t kill the urge to just leave this huge cage I was locked in.I knew Eric would hear none of it. And Bailey would definitely not permit such a risk to be repeated. So I didn’t bother telling either of them. But each minute I spent here, I felt less human and more a prisoner, and I just couldn’t tell why. What’s wrong with you, Amelia? Why do you love attracting trouble so much? The knock on the door disrupted my thoughts as I snapped my head in its direction.“Come in,” I whispered, loud enough for whoever the intruder was.The doorknob

Lachlan The day I have been dreading finally came. I could finally feel what Amelia felt while she was with me, and it was time to go for family dinners. I wish I could miss this. But Mom insisted the dinner was held in my house. She fucking knew I wouldn’t show up at the dinner table in the family house.I still intended to skip it, but she made me prepare and set the dinner table for them instead, threatening vehemently to withdraw my rights if I did otherwise. Mom was just a pest. Arrgh!I had just ensured everything was set for the dinner before running upstairs to round off some things on my system. Before long, I heard their irritating voices downstairs, and I groaned in anger. "Lachlan,” I heard Mom call from downstairs, and I folded my fists, grimacing. How exactly was I going to escape this? Maybe if I thought I was ready for this dinner, hearing my mother’s call definitely made me think otherwise."Lachlan, don’t bother. Just come down. We are waiting for you.” Nina scream

EricI was fuming as I drove, that I feared I wouldn’t crash into another vehicle. But I cared less. I just wanted to get home to fully understand the gibberish Thomas told me over the phone. Esmeralda had just convinced me to let go of the contract and use the energy we had invested in pursuing the contract, the Mallorys got. Her reasons were valid. I wasn’t really pursuing the contract because I needed it. I did need it, but that was not my reason for the pursuit. I just wanted to beat the Mallorys to this. But sincerely, if I channelled that energy into pursuing something else, it’d be more beneficial. So, despite how reluctant I was, I decided to take her advice. Only to be called by Thomas a few minutes later, telling me he couldn’t find Amelia. I didn’t seem to understand that, so I asked him what exactly he meant. But he kept compounding my confusion by spitting more rubbish. I just knew I had to go home and understand what had happened. Despite how almost impossible that cou

Lachlan I was grateful I was no longer being watched as a hawk by those despicable people I call family. But I was more grateful for the news I received as I rushed to my car in the garage. Finally, some good news, good enough to brighten me for the rest of the week.As I drove, I began to ponder why I was this excited because of the news. I had just closed up another deal I had been chasing for months, and it didn’t get me as excited as I was. In fact, I didn’t seem to find joy when I did. It just felt like a regular thing. Ever since she left, I had lost my peace. I might want to keep leaving in denial, but it was true. And I knew that. Nothing seemed to give me joy, regardless of the price I placed on it. And finally, after months of searching tirelessly, desperately finding her whereabouts, I had finally succeeded in getting her. Damn!My joy knew no bounds as I changed the gear while driving. Then I began wondering, Why was I so excited because I’ve gotten her? It was beyond th

Amelia I lowered my eyes as the realisation dawned on me. The idiot! He was so right! Arrgh! It hadn’t even crossed my mind. I wish I had just listened to Thomas and stayed back. I couldn’t imagine my peaceful life being interrupted by those sadists I call in-laws. I saw the fool smiling stupidly like he had won. Of course he had won. But I didn’t even get it. Was he actually concerned about having a son or getting rid of me? Because all this time, I had thought he wanted a son so he could get rid of me. But now, I’m not sure again.“What do you want?” I asked, apparently seething. I hated myself for not listening to Thomas. I hoped his job wouldn’t be on the line because of my stubbornness.“Let’s go home. After you have given birth, you can decide if you’d remain with me or not.”“Pfft!” She said and looked away. “What’s that supposed to mean?” “I will give birth to your son and hand him to you. But I don’t have to stay with you.” I said. I was shocked at how audacious I had bec

Lachlan I could tell she wasn’t expecting me to hand over the phone to her. But she took it anyway. And suddenly, the new Amelia I was still trying to figure out transitioned to the vulnerable woman I knew. Then I affirmed that she was Amelia. MD, this time, it was admirable to see this side of her again. It was only painful; it wasn’t with me. “Are you jealous, Lachlan?” My mind chided, but I shook it off again. Even if that low class was with ten men, it was none of my business. I just needed her to give birth to my heir. “Yeah, right,” I heard my mind chide again, like it mocked me.“Hey Eric,” she said, and I could swear I felt a jab in my chest at the tone she had switched to.“Amelia! Are you alright?” Eric’s tone had changed too. Bloody flirt!“I... am fine. Please do not worry.” She said, and I fought hard to remain stoic to how I was feeling.“I swear I’ll make Thomas pay for this. He…”“Oh no! Please, for my sake, don’t fire him. Sincerely, he never wanted me out of his s

Amelia I was expecting some explanation from him regarding his connection with Eric. Eric never mentioned that he knew him. In fact, all the times I shared my experiences with them, he just sympathised with me. There was no indication that they had any connection of any kind. I didn’t know why, but I was quite curious about the reason behind their enmity.“That should be a question for your boyfriend.” Lachlan said, and I could tell, he wasn’t comfortable with our relationship. Was he jealous?“Lachlan please.” “We are business rivals. That’s all.” He said it nonchalantly, but I knew it was deeper than that. It was a fight of egos. Lachlan was quite egoistic, and so was Eric.“Oh.” I said and turned my face aside.“How did you two meet?” He asked, and I squinted. I thought I had explained that already.“Well, like I said before, he is the nephew of the nurse that attended to me.” I explained again, making my exasperation vivid. But it didn’t seem to get to him.“Nurse? What nurse?”

EricI had just rounded off my discussion with Aunt Bailey, informing her of the updates regarding Amelia. Of course she didn’t sound pleased. She kept yelling at me over the phone, telling me I had just one assignment, and I flopped, worsening the injury. From the way she hung up, I could tell I wasn’t going to hear the last of it from her. Like, I was glad Amelia slipped out of my hands. This was all Thomas’s fault. I freaking gave him an instruction, but he just thought to be wiser. The idiot! I was the one to blame. Arrgh! I desperately desired to have him out of my sight completely. It itched me to personally type his termination letter and offer it to him. But I had promised Amelia not to. And I had to keep the damn promise I made to the woman who had my heart without even trying. Damn!Still, I decided to call the fool. I sent a servant around to call him. I can’t be shouting in my own house. A few minutes later, he came around.“You sent for me, sir.” He said, announcing his p

Christopher.I immediately turned and was meant with nothing but barrels of oil on the floor. There was no sign of Lachlan. I sighed, slapping my forehead again before stepping into my car and driving off.Nina’s POVThe headline popped up on my phone while I was sipping my morning latte, and I nearly choked. Normally I ignore stuff like this and focus more on the fashion news, but this story was too hot not to catch my attention. “BREAKING NEWS: Attempted Home Invasion at Mallory Mansion!" My eyes widened as I scrolled through the article. Apparently, some idiots tried to break into Lachlan’s house last night. They were dead now, of course, because nothing ever happens to Golden Boy Lachlan without some cosmic justice raining down in his favor. Still, it was juicy. Men storming his house, Amelia being in the house, and now they’re six feet under? This was practically ripped from a soap opera. I could already hear my mother’s voice in my head: “Nina, stop meddling in your brothers’

LACHLANThe fluorescent lights of the police station buzzed faintly as I walked through the doors, my mind heavily held down by a mixture of dread and determination. Matthew trailed just behind me, his expression stoic but his eyes alert. The station gave a stench of stale coffee mixed with frustration, a combination I’d grown accustomed to during these past few chaotic days. The detective in charge of the case called in earlier today that there have been some findings about the whereabouts of the assailants. It was good news, yes, but there was more, and they couldn’t tell me over the phone, so I had to come down here myself. Detective Harper greeted me with a curt nod. “Mr. Mallory, thank you for coming in. Let’s talk in my office.”I followed her into a small, cluttered room. Matthew remained close. If anyone could recognise Amelia’s attackers, it was him. Which was why I had brought him along with me again. Harper motioned for us to sit, her lips pressed into a grim line.“We fou

Christopher I staggered into my apartment, half drunk, exhausted, and honestly just wanting to sleep off the buzz from the club. It was nearly 3 a.m., and I’d lost track of how many drinks I’d downed with all those hot women. All I could think about was removing these clothes, getting in a hot shower, and letting the water wash off the stench of alcohol on me. As I turned on the shower, droplets of water began to gently slide down my chest, and I closed my eyes, letting the water pour over my hair, but as soon as I stepped out and grabbed a towel, my phone vibrated on the counter, slightly lighting up the dim room. It was Cassie. “Why's she calling?” I groaned, but something in the back of my mind told me to pick up. She wouldn’t call at this hour without a reasonable excuse. With that, I quickly dried off my wet body, yanked on some pants, and slid the green icon. "Cassandra, I was wondering when I’d hear from you again.” I heard her take a deep breath. “Chris, I need your hel

AMELIA I woke up slowly, my mind drifting through a thick haze, like I was trying to wade through fog. For a moment, everything was blurry, and a tightness settled in my chest. Where was I? Was I still at the hospital? Then I felt the warmth of a hand over mine, firm but gentle, and everything came rushing back. Blinking, I looked up to see Lachlan sitting beside me, his face tense but softening as he noticed I was awake. The sight of him washed away the last traces of fear, and I let out a breath I hadn’t realised I was holding.“Lachlan…” My voice was barely a whisper, but his expression shifted, relief flooding his eyes.“I’m right here, love,” he said, giving my hand a reassuring squeeze.I wanted to tell him everything I was feeling—how scared I’d been, how grateful I was that he was here now—but the words felt tangled in my throat. Before I could even try, the door opened, and a middle-aged man in a white coat stepped in. He had a kind face, with just a hint of greying at the

CASSANDRAHow could they fail? I clenched my fists, nails digging into my palms as I paced the length of my bedroom, the sour taste of anger mixing with fear. They were supposed to be professionals, discreet. They were supposed to handle everything without it coming back to me. But those idiots let Amelia slip through their fingers. I should have known his chauffeur wasn't normal. Lachlan was onto us now. He was too smart; I’d known this. It was part of why I’d fallen for him in the first place.Well too late for regrets; thanks to their incompetence, I was backed into a corner, and the thought made my skin crawl. The image of him still being by that bitch’s side burnt in my mind, fuelling my jealousy. Why her? Why did he look at her the way he used to look at me? I could have given him so much more if he’d just let me back in.My phone buzzed, and I saw Eric’s name light up the screen. My pulse quickened, a mix of hope and apprehension, but before I could even speak, his voice thund

LACHLANI should have been there. The thought ran circles in my mind, looping through every possible scenario in which I had somehow kept her safe. I was supposed to protect Amelia. But I had left her alone, vulnerable, and now she was in the hospital, recovering from an attack that could’ve cost her life. Worse, our child’s life. I clenched my fists so tight that my knuckles cracked, trying to keep my anger in check. It was mostly anger at myself—a gnawing, bitter frustration that I hadn’t been there when she’d needed me.Matthew sat beside me at the police station, scrolling through images on the detective’s tablet, helping to sort through potential suspects. He was silent but tense, his face a mirror of my own worry. I could see in his eyes that he was as furious as I was about what had happened. If he’d been there earlier, maybe he would have stopped those men. But he wasn’t to blame, and deep down, I knew that. The responsibility fell on me alone.“You don’t have to stay, Matthew

The house felt unusually still as I put away the last of the dishes. Lachlan had left just after dinner, saying he’d be home soon. He was working late again and had just come home during lunch break to spend time with me before he took off again. Lately, “soon” had been stretching longer and longer, but tonight, with the baby restless, I missed his presence more than usual. I sighed, patting my belly gently. “He’ll be home any minute now, my miracle, don't you worry,” I whispered, hoping it would somehow make the time pass faster. Lillian wasn't in the house today. She had gone to her home for her usual medical checkup, so she was sending her daughter to her place. Her name is Rebecca, and she and I have spoken a few times on the phone. She is a really lovely person. So yes, I was all alone in this empty house with nothing else to do but sleep. Which was exactly what I did. Cooking dinner did a number on me. My whole back was aching. Maybe I could ask Lachlan to give me one of thos

LACHLANThis whole week has been nothing but great. I had just closed a million-dollar deal with a company I've been chasing throughout the year. I had my beautiful wife waiting for me at home, and our son or daughter was going to be born soon. Amelia didn't want to find out the gender before the baby was born. She said it would ruin the thrill of having our first child. She wanted it to be a surprise for both of us. I, on the other hand, so badly wanted a daughter. Someone I could pamper, learn how to braid for, buy dresses for because she was my pretty princess, and chase away boys who wanted to come close to her. I didn't realise I was smiling widely until my cheeks started to hurt. I quickly stopped my daydreaming and continued to sign the projects we were supposed to commence with. I was planning on building a few gas stations in Dubai. My friend Abdul Rashad, who lives there, told me it would be a very good investment. Expanding my business was my goal. The whole world would kn

AMELIA I woke up that morning and Lachlan was already out of bed. My hands touched the side of his bed and was met with cold and empty space. Except for a single white rose. A smile spread across my face as I picked up the stalk. I brought the flower to my nose and took a deep inhale into my lungs. It's been 3 weeks since Lachlan and I made up, and ever since that day, he always left a single white rose on the bed next to me every morning. I asked him why he chose a white rose, and he replied with the statement, “It represents your purity. You're the light to my darkness. That's why I chose this particular flower.” I had gotten so emotional I was already a crying mess before he finished his statement. He had called me a crybaby, and I cursed him out, and then we made love over and over again. The new Lachlan was my favourite Lachlan. We had so much fun together and every waking day was so full of love and happiness. Life was getting better. An additional reason why I said so was
