His gaze wandered to her stomach and she sighed. Rob still blamed himself for taking her to the bar that night. Who knew she would have wandered off while drunk, and ended up in another man's arms.
"I took some medications, I'll be fine."
She had gone down to the pharmacy on the lowest floor of the hotel and got herself some drugs. She couldn't afford to go to the hospital as someone familiar might spot her. She would only be safe at this moment with her family. Unfortunately, she hadn't gotten any good news from Chloe yet. Her parents were still mad at her.
"Okay, if you say so." Rob stroked her hair and smiled. "Have you gotten the divorce papers?" He asked after some time. Hailey bit her lips and slowly shook her head. If Kendrick got better, he would send her the divorce papers without her even asking. She was sure of that. "I'll get it in a few days," she replied softly. "Until then..." She took his hand and continued."We can't see each other, Rob. I don't want to cause you trouble." Rob let out a soft chuckle and squeezed her hand. "I understand," he replied with a nod. Hailey smiled and rested her back on the chair. They went on chatting until the sun glided down over the horizon and the orange hues shone on her face. Rob offered to take her down to dinner but she turned him down politely. The urge to throw up was slowly building up in her stomach and she didn't want to spoil the evening. After he left, she went back to her hotel suite to continue dealing with her boredom. When the sky turned dark and the stars glittered from above, Hailey drew the curtains close and walked away from the window. She turned on the TV and flipped through the channels, but none caught her interest. She finally settled on a news channel to see what was going on in the city. From celebrities gossip, business commercials, fashion trends, and emerging technologies, Starling City's news channels always aired hot topics, entertainments, the latest gossip, and more. Tonight, they were airing news on the entertainment industry. Someone was mud-slinging at a celebrity. She gave the show her rapt attention as the celebrity who was being discussed was her sister's rival. Hailey couldn't understand why most A-list celebrities didn't get along. Natasha Wood. It had become a household name. The news showed she was spotted with some rich man who could give birth to her father. Her fans were in uproar and the reporters had been hustling after her since then. A director even cast her out of his show and the new female lead was now— Chloe?Hailey frowned. She was certain she hadn't seen wrong. Chloe Adams was written on the screen a few seconds ago. Before she could ponder further, her sister's photo popped up on the screen and she gasped. It was really her. Hailey's face broke into a grin and her hand wandered on the bed for her phone. She dialed Chloe's number and after exchanging pleasantries, she congratulated her. "Hailey, I've finally convinced Mum and Dad. They aren't going to tell Grandpa anymore," Chloe said after their little chat. Hailey's eyes lit up and she chuckled. She trusted her sister. Chloe always had her way with their parents and was always in their good books. Trying to get them to do something was only a piece of cake for her."But they still don't want to see you anytime soon," Chloe added in a low tone."Oh." Hailey sighed in disappointment. "Don't worry, they'll also change their minds about that after a short while.""Thanks, Chloe," Hailey murmured."It's not a big deal, Sis. Make sure you take care of yourself and don't let it bother you, okay?" "I will," Hailey assured her with a smile. She dropped down the phone and a sigh escaped her lips. Hopefully, things would ease out soon. She glanced down at her stomach and caressed it. Her bump had increased a little. What would her baby's gender be? She couldn't wait to find out. A yawn overtook her and after turning off the TV, she stretched on the bed. The few days that came, blended into each other. And Hailey hung out most of the time on the rooftop. Despite her request, Rob had come back to visit her a couple of times. Chloe had also dropped by a few times, so she didn't feel very lonely. It had been two weeks since she arrived at the hotel and Chloe had been hinting to her about her progress with their parents. Hailey had also spoken with her grandfather on the phone. The old man was blissfully unaware that her marriage was on the rocks. She knew it would break his heart as he was very fond of Kendrick, but Hailey had no choice. She got up one day, and after finishing her morning routine, and receiving Chloe's call that her parents wanted to see her in the evening, she sat down to watch the TV. Chloe had reported that her parents said, 'Since they hadn't received any notice from the court, it means Kendrick was going to let the matter go. They might consider forgiving her.' Hailey let out a deep sigh and pulled the sheet up to her chest. She was engrossed in the TV program when the doorbell rang. Was it food delivery? She frowned. But she had already eaten breakfast. And it wasn't lunchtime yet. It must be Rob. He must have gone to the rooftop and not found her there. Hailey got down from the bed and slid her legs into a pair of slippers. She smoothened out the creases on her dress and ran her fingers through her hair before heading to the door. She unlocked the door and opened it slightly, poking her head outside. "Rob—"However, it wasn't Rob.Hailey's heart jumped to her throat and she staggered back with dilated pupils. "K–Kendrick?"Please vote and support this book. If you enjoy it, add it to your library. Her breathing quickened and she gripped the door for support. He looked so handsome in his black tuxedo, his narrowed eyes fixing her in a heated gaze. Was she hallucinating? There wasn't any sign of the weak guy she left lying on the hospital bed. Every of his being was radiating a formidable aura. And his expression was dark as the night. With both hands in his pants pockets, he stepped forward and Hailey took a step back, her heart drumming heavily against her chest. "Nice house you've got here," he murmured, as his eyes left her and he surveyed the room "W–What are you doing here?" Hailey took another step back, trying to mask her fear. If he had recovered from the poison, wouldn't his next step be to send her the divorce papers through his lawyers? Unless if he was here to seek revenge. 'Oh no.' She gulped. "I could ask you the same question." Kendrick reached forward and caressed her cheek gently with his hand. It sent shivers up her spine and she instinctively move her
Kendrick chuckled and continued. "Our baby is going to look just like you." His finger traced over the tiny outline and his expression softened. "Your eyes, my nose. Our skin color—""No!" Hailey cut him off. Her chest heaving up and down. She didn't want her baby to inherit any of his traits. It would only remind her of him. "That won't happen.""Oh, it will," Kendrick smirked again. "My little one is going to have a lot of our characteristics. And we're going to raise him well, together." Hailey felt like her heart was about to rip through her ribcage. She was so afraid Kendrick was right. How she wished this to be a nightmare. "Please, K–Kendrick," she stuttered and sniffled. "We don't belong together.""Ah, but we do.""No, we don't!" Hailey exclaimed desperately. "I don't care whether or not this child belongs to you! I was forced into marrying you!" "But I do," He whispered, and cupped her cheeks in his palm. "And I don't give a damn about anything else other than this child.
Hailey brought out her phone and started playing with it. She saw a missed call from Rob and she let out a sigh. "I'll break down this door if you don't open it!" Kendrick thundered. Hailey rolled her eyes and scoffed again. 'Who cares if he breaks down the house? It's his own property.'She turned back to her phone and sighed again. What was she going to tell Rob? He must have gone to the hotel. Turning off her phone, she tossed it on the bedside table and sniffed. 'Kendrick that devil.' She chewed on her bottom lip. Was he a masochist or what? How could he still think of wanting her even after what she did? If he liked babies so much, why wouldn't he just go out there and make one with any woman and leave her alone? He had told her that she had been the one that forced herself on him that night, was he even telling the truth? The knocks finally stopped and relief washed over her. But sleep was very far from Hailey's eyes. Her stomach kept grumbling and she tossed and turned on
Besides, Kendrick must have gone to work. She didn't want to see his face. When she left her room and got down the stairs, the servants avoided her like plague. Each kept a distance from her, giving her those weird looks. And the one that served her food as she arrived at the dining table, scuttled away immediately she was done. Hailey sighed and ate her food silently. What did she care whatever they thought of her? They might as well gang up and confront her. Still eating her food, she lifted her head to see the Butler walking in her direction. "Good morning, Madam. I hope you had a splendid night," he stood by her side and said, a smile creasing his slightly wrinkled face. Hailey blinked before she swallowed the food in her mouth. "Y–Yes... I slept well." She nodded hesitantly. Wasn't he the one that kept helping Kendrick bang on her door last night? And if the servants hated her, the Butler was like her number one enemy. What was he up to? "Good!" The Butler beamed. "Master w
"Madam, thank goodness." He reached her side and flicked off the sweats on his forehead. "I searched for you everywhere. I thought— I thought..." He let the remaining words trail off as if thinking it didn't matter anymore. Well, she already knew what he was thinking. Come on, even if she had superpowers, how could she possibly escape from this huge mansion in such a short time. "The doctor is here, please follow me," The Butler said and started leading the way out of the garden. Hailey followed behind him, and when they entered the house, the two guards left her back and went to stand at the door. In the living room, an elderly lady was seated on one of the couches. She stood up and extended her hand as Hailey approached her. After exchanging pleasantries, the woman gestured her to sit beside her. "Please call me Bella. Although it's been decades since I provide service to the family, you can still consider me as relative," She said with a gentle smile. "Oh." Hailey nodded. "I s
Hailey's hand stroked the screen as she gazed into the picture. She smiled at the memories, then laughed at her two pigtails. But her face fell and her eyes burned with tears at the reality she was now in. "Argh!" She tossed her phone beside her and threw off the bedsheets. What kind of bad luck was this? People that grew up loyal to their only loves were the most fortunate in relationships. Why was her case the total opposite? Still glooming about her unfortunate fate, Hailey did not know when the door opened until she sensed a figure standing beside her. Her head lifted up and her eyes were met with Kendrick's who was staring down at her with a deep-seated frown. When did he return? Damnit! She had even forgotten to lock the door. "What is bothering you?" Kendrick askedHailey pursed her lips and gave him a hard glare. "What are you doing in my room?" She demanded sternly. Kendrick let out a small laugh, his gaze wandering around the room. "Good thing you know it is your room."
Kendrick frowned, his face was barely an inch from hers. He instantly released her and she let out a breath she hadn't known she was holding. "What is it?" Kendrick said in annoyance as he glanced sideways at the maid who had appeared from the door. The maid seemed shocked at their position. Her cheeks tinged red and she lowered her head quickly. "It– It's Master— guests— y–you have guests," she stammered while her legs shifted on the ground. Kendrick's frown deepened and he asked, "Who?"While Hailey used the opportunity to push him away. She sat up straight and busied herself with smoothening the creases on her nightgown. Whatever was the maid's reply, she didn't catch it as she was so engrossed in getting away from Kendrick. "They're here for you," Kendrick said when the maid left. And Hailey who was still shaken to the core barely had time to react. "W–Who?" She stuttered with a hand on her chest to calm her erratic heartbeat. "Your parents," Kendrick said simply before stan
"An allergy...?" Her stepmother trailed off. "I thought she tried to—" her father seemed unable to complete his words. And his eyes turned to Chloe who ducked her head as if trying to hide her presence. "But her sister was a witness. Even Hailey—" "Hailey was not aware I'm allergic to onions... Does that count as a sin?" The Butler coughed from behind and Hailey could sense the other servants' movement. Even Chloe had lifted her head and given him a shocked look, her expression matching her parents'Hailey was frozen stilled and she only came back to her senses when Kendrick chuckled and wrapped an arm around her shoulders. He drew her close until her body collided to his side, his eyes fixed straight at the couple. "Hailey is my wife," he said flatly. "It is a wasted assumption to think she would try to poison me. Now, I will appreciate if this rumor dies here tonight." He rose to his feet and faced the servants. "Because, anyone that attempts tainting her reputation, is as well
